Gateway laptop won't turn on - Battery or AC adapter?

I have a Gateway NV52 that I purchased at Best Buy last October. Recently I've been recieving messages that my battery needed replacing, and so I had it ordered through Best Buy/Geek squad. Today, though, the computer will not turn on, even when plugged into the AC adapter.
I'm hoping this is just a battery problem. Could it be just that the battery needs to be replaced, and that I will just have to wait for that to arive? Or might it be a problem with the AC adapter or some other issue? It has not suffered any damage or been dropped or roughly handled at all so it shouldn't be anything physical(a while ago I noticed the hinge was a little loose, but I do not recall anything happening to the comptuer that would have caused it. I'm hoping that the loose hinge isn't causing it not to start).
   Any input is greatly appreciated!

October.. you're under 1 year. Ergo, stop trying to fix it yourself, bring it into Geeksquad.. before you mess up, go past warrenty or end up voiding the warrenty by trying to fix something yourself.

The laptop won't turn on. I have changed the fuse in the plug but the wires are not getting warm.
I have no idea. When the battery is in and I try to turn it on the orange light flashes. However when I take the battery out and plug in to the wall and try to turn it on nothing. No light.

    Hi @Jillrich ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Notebook and getting a blank screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.

Have you tried a different walloutlet  or a borrowing a different AC adapter?

My laptop won't turn on it shows the blue screen but won't come on. Help?

    Try resetting the SMC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If it has a removable battery, try removing the battery.
If neither works, then you may need to bring it in for service.  Bring the power adapter as well, as you may be able to determine if it is the power adapter at fault, or the computer's power supply.

  • Laptop won't turn on

I was trying to do a secure delete on my Apple, but I couldn't figure out how. So I just started throwing everything in the trash.
Now my laptop won't turn on when I press the power button. Should I get an Apple restore disc?
What should I do? How do I fix this problem???

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
One easy way of secure deleting, or deleting in general (use mostly when delete a large number of files) is to put all the files in one folder (just create a random folder in Finder) > Press Control (ctrl) and click on the folder > Go down to move to Trash (in the popup menu) > Go to Finder > Secure Empty or Empty Trash.
Did you delete the files or did it just shut off? What exactly were you deleting? Languages, fonts; anything like that? You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #106214 on Troubleshooting Startup Issues. Do you get any sounds or flashes of light (from the "sleep" light)? You may want to try booting up in Safe Mode (Knowledge Base Document #107393 on How to Startup In Safe Mode), or with the install discs.

  • My notebook blacked out & Charger keeps Turing green & orange & laptop won't turn on

My notebook blacked out & Charger keeps Turing green & orange & laptop won't turn on , I need your help.

Which model MBP do you have (15" late 2011, for example).
There are a number of things you could try - restarting in Safe Mode (start up with teh Shift key held down), resetting the SMC, etc., but I don't really think that those 'quick fixes' are going to help.
If I were you, I would just take the machine into your local Apple Store and have them run diagnostics on the unit. If it's out of warranty, they'll give you an estimate for repair and will charge you nothing for the diagnosis and estimate.
Sounds as if you've a hardware issue... maybe try running the Apple Hardware Test and see if you've any errors?
    Good luck,

  • My laptop won't turn on!!!

Hi everyone, I left my laptop on hibernate and once I got back home it won't turn on I have a P55-A5200 laptop. What do I need to do?

    wd5rcc wrote:
I have the same problem with the P55-A5200.  It went to sleep and will not power back on.  The power LED light is on but the laptop will not wak up, power adapter is tested and so is the power outlet.  I tried the memory slot trick and didn't work.  My battery is internal, no battery to take off and put back on.  What now???Hi. It is my first message here. I registered just to add my solution into this topic. I had that problem exactly after similar stuff. My laptop was in use without power on battery and I was going to sleep. On battery it went to sleep mode in half hour, I think, but at the morning I was unable to switch laptop on. My model is new, 1 month old today, Toshiba Satellite L50D Black. When I turned it on, screen was black, not even Toshiba logo and all lights were on (eg. power, caps and num lock, also battery and wifi indicators). Also fan was going strong, but no boot. I was searching the whole Internet, but since there is no removable battery, most of guides to reset stuff I found pretty useless for me. Even Toshiba's info about Reset hole, but I was unable to locate it on this item, because I think it is not available in this model. I was about to go back to shop from where I purchased this, but I choosed to let PC go open without power, only on battery until battery goes zero. You will know that when lights will go off, so battery is empty then. Now when it is finally empty, put it into charge, push on/off button and your laptop finally boots and works normally. At least this happened to me. I hope it will never do again this stuff. So far, in love with this piece. I hope this helps someone. Have a nice day.

  • Laptop won't turn on!!! why?

Here we go again!!   Gateway laptop, 6 months old... was a trade because they had to " JUNK" my other one that was only 8 months old!  gosh!
WELL ... I closed the laptop this afternoon, unplugged it... put it in the other room until dinner was done.  Went to get the laptop, plugged it in.  and nothing!!!!  absolutely nothing but a little orange/red light that looks like a batter with a lightning bolt thru it.    I clicked the "ON"  button, and still nothing.  checked all the connections nothing...   after a few mins that light turned blue.  I thought that was a good sign, but still NOTHING! No fan, no LED'S lit up.  Nothing! Help!

    Try this:
    1. Unplug the laptop from the AC adapter.
    2. Remove the battery from the laptop.
    3. Press and hold the power button for about 2 seconds. Do this about 3-4 times.
    4. Plug the AC adapter back into the laptop and into an electrical outlet.
If it powers on, then your laptop is most likely fine. Just re-insert the battery and make sure it is detected and charging in Windows on it is powered on.
I DO NOT work for Best Buy. Whatever I post are just educated guesses or common sense.

  • U510 won't turn on, battery light flashes twice when plugged in then nothing

My ideapad u510 is dead. It won't turn on and no power. The only indicator i get is sometimes when inserting the power adapter the battery indicator light will flash twice amber then turn off. Is this an error code of some sort or is the adapter shot and just not charging or powering up the computer?

    Hi Citrineaux,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not powering on in your Lenovo U510 laptop.
Try to connect with different adapter and check for the issue. Also connect the external monitor to check if the issue is no power or no display. Check if you are able to hear the windows login sound.
As this model has the inbuilt battery, please try to power on by reset button or novo button.
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!
    Best regards,

  • Laptop won't turn on at all

So I was using my laptop and with in thirty seconds of usage , the laptop shut off. Before it shut off the screen seemed to get a little blurry, though I'm not sure if this was just my eyes adjusting. The laptop was plugged in when it shut off. Now it won't turn on or even indicate a charge. This happens randomly. I've tried removing the battery and powering back on while plugged in and no luck any where. Please help.

  • New laptop won't turn on!

So I was browsing the Internet on my newly purchased hp envy 360 laptop that I've had for less than 2 weeks. I left my laptop sitting on for about 10 mins and when I came back it was shut off. I assumed that perhaps it died so I went to charge it, however what I noticed was that the light that indicates that the laptop was charging was not on. So now my laptop won't charge and won't turn on. It's absolutely dead, nothing lights up or blinks.
It was not in heat, never been dropped, no scratches or liquid spilled on it. So I'm shocked that this would happen. Is there any solution to this?

    Try this
Does your laptop run on battery or not
Try any replacement battery you can get or charge the device battery on another laptop , if the device is working
Then it might be the charger failed due to unstable electricity and need to be replaced , or charger input socket is not working
If not, try calling customers service to see if there is possible solution, or the device should go to support center
    Hope I helped

  • Laptop won't turn on anymore

    Have a compaq presario V6000 -> v6110us
It has always ran very, very hot. About a year or so ago the wireless card died. Now the computer won't run the BIOS or give any display. If you leave it off for a while, pull out the plug and battery and wait about 20 minutes and then turn it on everything works. However, upon immediate reboot it won't turn back on.
The computer lights light up (volume controls, etc, light on the power button), but no noises of hdd spinning or fans, and then all of a sudden the lights will flash off and right back on but still no display.
It makes no difference if the battery is in or out. Also, I know someone with the same computer so I tried their AC adapter with no luck. Switched the harddrive and memory and this was still a problem. Finally, I tried to boot the computer with no ram in it and still nothing happened, no beeps/bios/display.
I came across this on an internet search: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu … c=en&cc=us
Our model/part number fits the bill. Is something fried? Or are there other recommendations I can try?

As you indicated, it sounds like some sort of overheating problem going on there. Maybe time to send it to laptop heaven...

  • Hp laptop won't turn on

I have a HP pavilion laptop which I got only 2 months ago. Last week it wouldn't turn, i have turned a few different things like unplugged the power, took out the battery, held down the power button, and still nothing happens. the light comes on the the ac adapter when its plugged in, the power button briefly flashes when i push the power button but it still doesnt turn on or nothing This is only a new laptop and it is quite upsetting that this has happened, any suggestions please?

    Dear Customer,
Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
It looks like you are not able to Power ON the Notebook and wanted to fix the issue
Please perform below shown steps to find out if this is a software or hardware issue:
    1. Remove all Peripherals and Cables, Disconnect them and try to Power ON the Unit
    2. Check for LED Light Status and ensure Power Button spring action is normal
    3. Swap with a known good Power Cord and Power Adapter
    4. Incase no Adapter is available, Check if the Power Adapter is slightly warm
Note: This will give us a hint that the Power Adapter might be fine
    5. Do you know if the Notebook was in Battery or Power Adapter Mode when you used it for the last time
Note: Ensure there is no liquid spillage or Power Outage
    6. Check if the AC Adapter Port is loose/broken
Note: If the Notebook doesn't Power ON even with a known good Power Adapter this confirms the Hardware fault
with System Board or the DC Power Circuit

My laptop stopped working last night (won't turn back on). The touchpad stopped responding. I did a manual shutdown by holding down the power button until it turned off - it won't turn back on when I press the power button.
