Gathering children from disk for local accounts

When trying to get mail get message "gathering children from disk for local accounts" and mail does not come in. Any ideas?
  Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I had exactly the same problem when we connected our xsan volume to a multimedia area for post-production work. You are never really safe with local users so I deleted them and created users on the server with exactly the same name and a local home folder in the Users directory defined in workgroup manager, at first login the home folder is created locally and left as is.
Because we now have no actual local users (people only think they are) we have complete control over the SAN. Privileges expressly forbid access to the users created for local use only, everything is working well.
You can find all the info you need in the OSX server 'open directory' manual. I wouldn't go down the root of scripting un-mounting and mounting volumes for particular users because your going to be fighting the system at something its designed to do. Its treating the SAN volume as direct attached storage which it needs to do in order to use for editing etc.

  • Can't get Administrator Privileges/Rights for Local Account in Administrators Group

    I'm using a Custom Command Shell, and for now just booting to cmd.exe. I've done the following:
    1) Added a LocalAccount under UserAccounts/LocalAccounts (pass 7) with Name, DisplayName, Password, Group
    2) Entered "Administrators" as the LocalAccount/Group (yes, it's definitely spelled correctly.)
    3) Set AutoLogon/Username to the Username created in Step 1, Enabled, LogonCount 9999, Password as per Step 1
    4) Added the "Application Security" package and set EnableLUA=False.
    The system boots after install, and it successfully logs in automatically to the command prompt. However, the user DOES NOT have Administrator privileges. For example, when trying to run Regsvr32 from the command prompt, I receive the following error message:
    "dllregisterserver failed with error code 0x8002801c," which indicates some sort of privilege/rights issue.
    At the command prompt, when I type Net User LocalUserWhoShouldBeAdmin, I get the following:
        Local Group Memberships
        Global Group Memberships   *None
    Whereas when I type Net User Administrator, I get:
        Local Group Memberships    *Administrators
        Global Group Memberships   *None
    What must I do to successfully give the local user Administrator rights?

    Jamster,
    I figured out the solution, but I'm not sure your problem is the same...
    In my case, the problem was that the LocalAccount/Name was the same as the ComputerName. As a last resort, all I did was change the LocalAccount/Name to something other than the ComputerName, and voila, after re-installing the image the local account was
    suddenly a member of Administrators. Crazy... you'd think they'd be able to tell the difference between the ComputerName and a local account name! In case anyone's wondering, it has nothing to do with the length of the local account Name (I tested that.)

  • Mail search in iOS 7 doesn't allow me to select messages from results for Exchange account

    I perform an Exchange mailbox search and after getting the results I tap on Edit to select some of the messages from the listed search results but I can't select any and the options for Move, Delete and Mark are greyed out.
    If I do the search on the Gmail mailbox instead, the selection circle is available, I can select individual messages and the options for moving, etc. are all available.

    OK - unless a miracle happens in the next 5-10 minutes - apple's current stance on this is that we (corporate users) are going to have to work on this problem on our side of it!
    I asked - so you expect hundreds, thousands of server admins (internal employee supported and hosted) to change their settings for you  - rather than you changing the way the search app works?  Response was YES!!!!
    They recognize that it is happening as a result of the 'expanded' search functionality, that WE asked for.  Uh-hum it was working before and not now - don't think we asked for that.
    They say that they have no intention of fixing what's broken in the app.  They consider it to not be broken - but rather improved.  WOW!
    They are CLEARLY catering to the 'hey where you gonna be tonight' crowd - rather than the 'We need to meet up at 3:00pm to go over these final plans so that I can authorize the next phase of building.' and the 'Go ahead and plan for the 2 mergers we discussed to move forward - I am canceling the third, though' crowd.
    Yes - I am venting.....
    I am supposedly being transferred to the 'enterprise support team' now.  Tech tells me I never mentioned that it was an 'enterprise' issue.  I'm like - really - exchange account - and I mentioned the corporate impact of the problem from the beginning.  Anyway - we'll see where I get.
    Just FYI - their search tool is supposedly returning these results because ALL of our servers are searching and seeing a server setting that allows it to search historical info ON the server.  He says it happened this way in io6 - but it did not (thus we searched fine before and not now).  I have two users (iPhone 5) who upgraded and have the problem - and one user (iPhone 5) who has not upgraded and does not have the problem.
    OK - just got off the phone with apple.  I was just transferred to the enterprise team - who said that rackspace could pay $700 and then apple would look into the problem.  No, I am not joking.  I recommend that you all continue to post your problems with the mail search as often as possible - and hopefully apple will take some responsibility and fix the issue on the app side - rather than asking us to all supposedly fix it on the server side.
    I am contacting my exchange server admin to see if there is in fact a setting that will 'fix' the ghosting of the emails.  If there is in fact a server side work around - I will post back.  If apple gets smart and decides that fixing broken corporate features matters to them - I will also post back.
    Any suggestions from the IT world reading this?

  • Using another from address for Gmail account in Mac OSX Lion's Mail app

    Hi,
    On my iPhone I've set up gmail as an Exchange accout and when I send an e-mail, my from address appears to be the one I select as default address in gmail preferences.
    Is there any way to achieve this in Mac OSX Lion's mail application?

    Hmmm, not sure what is going on, but from the Mail log, neither of those IPs have a name associated with them, 1st one is in Netherlands, 2nd one is iin Africa!???
    Any idea why it'd be looking those up?

  • Migrating to nsd/unbound from bind for local dns queries

    As it was recently announced that the maintainer of the bind package intends to withdraw support for bind10 in arch when it is released, I decided to move my own systems from running bind to running unbound as the recursive caching dns server in my laptops, and this package in combination with nsd as an authoritative-only dns server on one of the local network machines to provide local dns.  Having done a little research on these two packages before starting out, I found that nsd is in fact used on three of the root dns servers, and has an excellent security pedigree if the CVE statistics are monitored.  For example:
    http://www.cvedetails.com/product/17420 … or_id=9613
    http://www.cvedetails.com/product/18208 … r_id=10197
    both look good compared the stats for bind at
    http://www.cvedetails.com/product/144/I … ndor_id=64
    Having got the packages working on all my machines now, and having had them running very well and stable for some days I thought I would put some information on the arch wiki to help anyone else doing the same migration.  Once the migration is complete then the bind package is no longer needed on any of the machines and can be removed. I understand that anyone already running bind will continue to be able to run that package but it will then become unmaintained and it is therefore worth migrating to supported packages that achieve the same functionality but with added security since separating the authoritative dns functions from those of caching and recursive dns allows one to tighten security on the authoritative server in a way that is not possible when running all dns functions within a single package such as bind. In addition package updates including security fixes will then enable the supported packages to provide a cutting edge dns service.

    Of course the same packages can also provide dns queries for wan facing web and mail servers and allow queries from outside of the local network as well in the same way that bind as been providing such services on many web and mail servers for many years by changing the configuration files accordingly.
    I hope that this may help other users who want to set up dns servers on their systems.

  • Underwriter Request for "Terms of Withdrawal" from non-retirement brokerage accounts

    I am set to close on a property (missed friday closing date because of this UW issue) and the UW has demanded that I provide "terms of withdrawal for my schwab and fidelity regular (non-retirement) brokerage accounts.  I have searched on the internet and these forums and have not seen such a requirement for anything besides retirement accounts.  While this requirement is easy to satisfy for a retirement account as there are documents related to withdrawal restrictions, I cannot find anything that will satisfy the UW for these accounts.  They essentially want me to prove that I can turn stocks in my brokerage account into cash and access these funds, which is of course obviously true with regard to any brokerage account.   I have provided both schwab and fidelity account agreements and statements that show routine cash withdrawals, but this still does not satisfy them.  Both Schwab and Fidelity are puzzled by this request but have agreed to provide letters, but they cannot provide them immediately as any communications need sign off.  I was told that Fidelity could take 3 business days tor more o provide a letter.  As we have already missed a friday closing deadline and would like to close Monday, is there anything I can provide to satisfy this request immediately?  I think the request is obviusly absurd and I am working to have it removed, but any advice would be appreciated.

    IOBA wrote:
    I know this thread is a few days old, but maybe the information will be helpful to someone. I had a similiar, absurd requirement as well from UW.  They wanted to know how exactly how I could withdraw the funds from my retirement account even though the account was not being considered for reserves or the downpayment.  They also wanted to know how exactly I could withdraw the funds from my line of credit and the exact amount of available credit. For the retirement account - I wrote a short paragraph and explained there is no document that would satisfy their requirement, even though I had asked.  The best I could do is provide screen shots showign the current balance of the retirement account, a screen shot of the two methods for withdrawing funds, and screen shots of both applications (one is for home buying and one is for personal/emergency loan.) For the line of credit - I walked into the branch, sat down with a customer service rep, explained the situation, and asked for a letter stating how much money was available on the LOC, how quickly I could transfer the funds from the LOC to my checking account, and when those funds would be available.  The CSR, shaking her head and mumbling under her breath about how insane the requirement was, did that.  She also printed out a screen shot of my account (checking and LOC), stamped, signed, and dated it. The UW accepted both methods of verification.  The LOC was being used for my down payment.  I had more than enough reserves (cash) in the bank to cover the required amount and then some, but my lender said not to use it/provide the bank statements becuase it would open up a can of  worms explaining the regular deposits into the account, etc.  (I didn't argue - I let it be.  Keep is simple!)Ha.  This is exactly what is going on right now re: can of worms.  I got the the absurd statements from fidelity and schwab that basically say "the account holder can withdrawal his money on demand" (it also noted that this was the case because they are non-retirement accounts, which is why this request was so absurd to begin with) , the underwriter has come back with additional requests relating to all my deposits.  As I gathered money from three separate brokerage accounts in order to wire the money from one place, they are asking for all sorts of proof that the money came from those accounts.  I think I have provided that now but the underwriter has now gone dark and we are in danger of missing closing for the third straight day after a friday deadline.  I am extremely frustrated at the UW, but also with my LO for overdocumenting this loan and inviting all of these ridiculous questions.

  • How can I install WebOfTrust for a local account and save the profile so that it transfers to domain accounts that log on to that specific computer?

    We are creating images through ghost server to clone onto several laptops and one of the features we need to have configured is the Web of Trust extension in Firefox. I have configured a local account on the machine and set up Web of Trust and then copied the profile image in regedit to the default profile image and saved this. WOT works for local accounts but whenever I try domain accounts, Web of Trust needs to be disabled and re-enabled.

    Try using Web of Trust support:

  • Workgroup Manager doesn't create home directories for OD accounts

    I'm having an issue where home directories aren't created for OD accounts. My setup is as follows, the home directories are stored on the OD Master (the only Apple/OD/AD server on the network), and the home directory paths are filled as afp://192.168.1.254/Customers, fakeuser, /Users/Customers/fakeuser
    This same pathing scheme works fine for local accounts, however for OD, clicking Create Home Directory and saving the account does nothing (no errors, nor folders created). If I ftp into said account, I wind up being directed to /Users (definitely not the expected behaviour)
    I am deploying a web based upload system that I want to authenticate against OD users so as to share home folders and permissions with the ftp server, once I have this figured out I will be migrating a bunch of accounts to OD from local.

    In addition to potential DNS issues, it sounds like you may be using the wrong procedure to define the users' home directories. You should never have to specify the paths manually; instead, define the share point ("Customers" in your case) to be automounted, and then it should automatically show up in the list of available home folder locations, with all the necessary paths predefined. Here's the full procedure:
    1. Run Server Admin, and select: the server name in the sidebar -> File Sharing in the toolbar -> Volumes & Browse under that -> navigate to the /Customers folder in the column view.
    2. Make sure the folder is being shared (with it selected, you should see an "Unshare" button near the top right of the window); if not share it with the Share Button (then Save the change).
    3. Select the Share Point tab under the file browser (NOT the one above it), and select the Enable Automount checkbox. A dialog will open asking for the automount details; make sure the Directory is set to /LADPv3/127.0.0.1, Protocol to AFP, and Use for is User home folders and group folders. OK the dialog, and be sure to click Save to make the change take effect.
    4. Run Workgroup Manager, and select Accounts in the toolbar -> Users (single person icon) tab under that -> some user account(s) you want to configure under that -> Home tab on the right.
    5. Select (None) from the location list and click Save (this wipes out any current setting, so we can rebuild it correctly).
    6. The Customers share point should be in the list of available locations (due to being configured for automount); select it, then click Create Home Now, and finally Save.

  • Consolidation with  local Account

    Hi
    I have a question about the consolidation with local accounts, we have subsidiaries in Latinoamerica in countries like chile, peru, colombia, and our users in this countries want to prepare financial statements but with local account and then send to corporative en Mexico.
    I heard that in version 6.0 SEM BCS there is a part called "consolidation functions for local Accounts"
    Can anybody help me with this???
    I need because we are planning buy the version 6.0 SEM BCS and I think will be very helpful for me.

    If you want to do more detailed analysis of local financial of these countires then keep the data in ODS. . Whatever the financial report you need for these countires take it by report from ODS.
    But from BCS cubes you can take another consolidated report by group account. Any report you run from BCS cube can address all consolidated functions such as Interunit elimination, current translation , etc.
    Web BCS monitor is like enabling the UCMON on web. All BCS functions can be seen in web.
    The word DYNPRO stands for dynamic processing and it is basic SAP term.

  • Publish iCal Local Account Calendar on OS X Server

    I'd like to publish my iCal calendar (iCal>Calendar>Publish...>Publish on: A private server) on my OS X Server 10.6.7 ().
    Whenever I attempt to do this using my local account on tthe server, I get the error:
    http://username@domain_name/Home.ics is not a location that supports this request.
    I've tried all the obvious stuff: turning off the firewall, sanity checking the iCal service authentication settings, everything obvious. I believe that this is an authentication issue for local accounts on OS X Server. Because the server is set up as a standalone (i.e., no network accounts, all local accounts), Open Directory is turned off, and there's no Kerberos authentication that I'm aware of.
    Would someone please tell me how how to publish iCal calendars of local accounts on OS X Server?

    According to iCal Server Administration, OS X Server requires an Open Directory account, so you cannot publish your local account's iCal calendar.
    You can, however, use iCal itself and a modification of the OS X Hint "Publish iCal calendars with local WebDAV server" to publish local account calendars.
    0. Server Admin>Web>Sites Turn on the Web with an enabled host name. Make sure that WebDAV is enabled under Server Admin>Web>Sites>Options. Enable SSL with your server's certificate under Server Admin>Web>Sites>Security to ensure that your personal calendar information is SSL encrypted over the web.
    1. Append this directive to the end of the file /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
    Include /private/etc/apache2/other/*.conf
    and make sure that there's no conf file in ./other that you may not wish to load, such as httpd-userdir.conf. Move these to *.conf.original or some such if necessary.
    2. Create the file /private/etc/apache2/other/httpd-webdav.conf with the contents:
    # WebDAV configureation for Publishing local account iCal calendars
    #  Based in part on Mac OS X Hint "iPublish iCal calendars with local WebDAV server Apps"
    # http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20020912065811863
    # copied from /etc/apache2/sites/0000_any_443_myserver.conf
    # which is automatically generated by Server Admin>Web
    # No need to replicate these directives here, so comment out
    #<IfModule mod_dav.c>
    #       DAVLockDB "/var/run/davlocks/.davlock100"
    #       DAVMinTimeout 600
    #</IfModule>
    <IfModule mod_dav.c>
      <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav">
        DAV On
        AuthType Digest
        AuthName 'WebDAV'
        AuthDigestFile /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
        AuthGroupFile /dev/null
    #    <LimitExcept GET HEAD OPTIONS>
          require valid-user
    #    </LimitExcept>
      </Directory>
    </IfModule>
    3. Create the apache htdigest authentication file:
    $ mkdir /private/etc/apache2/httpd
    $ chmod 0755 /private/etc/apache2/httpd
    $ touch /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
    $ chmod 0644 /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
    $ htdigest /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest WebDAV username
    Adding password for username in realm WebDAV.
    New password: md5 hashed password
    Re-type new password: md5 hashed password
    4. Create the WebDAV directory:
    $ mkdir /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ chown www:www /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ chmod 0755 /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ mkdir /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    $ chown www:www /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    $ chmod 0755 /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    and sanity check that the OS X Server davlocks directory /var/run/davlocks exists [it should!] and has www:www ownership with permissions 755 [it should!].
    5. Sanity check your apache config files:
    $ apachectl -t
    should yield "Syntax OK". Then Server Admin>Web>Stop and Start to restart your web server with the new configuration.
    5. Under your local account on OS X Server, iCal>Calendar>Publish... Publish on a private server with the URL:
    https://osxserver/webdav/iCal
    using OS X Server's local account username/password. Success will be reported with a URL of your calendar on the server.
    6. Under another client account from which you wish to subscript to your OS X Server local account's Calender, iCal>Calender>Subscribe... Enter the URL on OS X Server. You will be prompted for the htdigest name/password pair you created above -- enter this, not the username/password of your local account on OS X Server. Even though you should be protecting this channel with SSL and md5, don't reuse your username/password to access the WebDAV directory you created. You will now be subscribed to your local account's iCal Calendar residing on OS X Server.

  • Client Machine : Locking out ability to login to local accounts...

    One more question regarding OpenDirectory in conjunction with client machines. Our older PPC G5 Tower running OSX 10.5.6 has a variety of local accounts that users can login to directly in addition to any of the various OD based accounts coming from the server. Is there any way to disable the local accounts and force users to login to the OD based accounts only?
    What happens if the name of the OD account is the same as a local one? Which one takes precedence?
    I guess I could prefix all of the local accounts I don't want used anymore to something with "old_" or similar?
    Message was edited by: osx-addict

    The local account will take precedence over a network account of the same name.
    As to blocking local account access, I'm not too sure. Under WGM > Preferences > Login > Access, there's a "Local-only users may log in" check box that seems to be checked by default. You could manage this preference and uncheck it to see if that does it for you (I have no clue exactly what this behavior does--just something I quickly looked at that may be what you want).
    However, I'm curious if you don't want anyone to use the local accounts, why not simply delete them? I don't know your exact needs, but it almost seems like all you'd need is a single local admin account (for emergencies or installs, whatever). Just make sure you migrate any critical data from your old local accounts to someplace useful and then simple nuke the unneeded accounts.

  • How to Sync pictures from AD for users in Outlook Contacts?

    Hi we recently enabled adding profile pictures to AD from sharepoint.   This works fine, the attribute shows in AD and the pictures show in Lync.   Now in Outlook there are soem inconsistencies.   I am are running
    Outlook 2010 windows 7 64 bit.    The user pictures from the Global Address List show up fine in the people pane, however for users that I have a local outlook Contact created for the pictures do not show in the "people pane",
    or the outlook "contact".  however the picture DOES show up in the outlook "Contact card".  If I click update on the outlook contact I get a message "no changes were found for this contact".
    If I delete the local contact and re-add them the picture is there.  I don't think the solution is to delete and re-add contacts, as the reason to have the local contact is generally because we have added info that is not in GAL.
    Any way to force the sync of the picture from AD for local contacts?
    Thanks,

  • TS3988 Help - How do I manage to remove an IOS device, in this case an IPhone 4S, from my Apple ID account? I want to use this account only for my IPAD

    Hi,
    I have managed to initially set up our two IOS devices - my wifes IPhone 4S and my IPAD 2 - in a not so smart way.
    I used the same Apple ID account for both devices.
    As such it worked, however after a few days we decided to have two different Apple ID accounts, one for each device.
    I made a new Apple ID account for my wifes Iphone, and kept the old account for my IPAD.
    This is as well working now with both these accounts, however I have found out that my wifes IPhone is still registered under my account.
    This I will like to have rectified and cleared, i.e. I want my wife's phone cleared from my Apple ID account, so that my Apple ID account only contain information related to my IPAD 2.
    My wife's Apple ID account for her IPhone 4S works fine and we do not need to change anything for this account.
    However, how can I clear/edit my own account, so that it only contain information about my IPAD?
    For example, when I use the Apps "Find My Iphone" I can see that the system is trying to locate both my IPAD and my wife's IPhone 4S, when I have logged on with my Apple ID account no. This show that one way or the other both devices are registered under my Apple ID account.
    I will appreciate some assistance to tell how to rectify this matter,

  • Syncronization: How can i store mail for different accounts remotely, and copy most important mails manually to local folders on two devices?

    Hello. I have two devices and two accounts, so what i want is this:
    I only want to store mail from both accounts in a remote place and copy most important mails to local folders.
    (I will be grateful for any ideas as to where/how this "cloud" can be - specially free places)
    * Can I have a copy of these local folders in both devices and the remote storage?
    * Could i synchronize devices so that: when i move a mail to a local folder in any device, its copied to the same folders in
    the other device and the remote storage place?
    * The remote storage place will have many other folders. When I open Thunderbird, I also want to see these and the mail
    inside, and also be able to move mail from the inbox to these folders.
    * One of the accounts is gmail. In Account Setting tool, there is an option for synchronization. If there is no easier way, I can have mail for other account copied to gmail, and just syncronize gmail mail. For this, how will I copy my present folder structure to gmail. And how can I syncronize the local folders on the two devices?
    Thanks in advance.

    The first awkwardness I see is that there's no obvious format in which to store messages remotely such that you can work with them in an email client. It may be possible to set the "Local Directory" option in the account in Thunderbird to point at some remote folder (DropBox comes to mind) but I have never tried this and I'd be nervous about what happens if connection can't be made, or if you happened to access it from two different places simultaneously. The other concern is that mail stores get big, quickly, and you'd be forever uploading and downloading large (multi gigabyte) files. Thunderbird stores what looks like a folder containing many separate messages as one big file, so there's no simple opportunity for incremental changes to be up/down loaded.
    The whole idea of Local Folders in Thunderbird is to detach messages from servers, so they don't track what happens on servers. I say this to point out the distinction between files stored locally and permanently ("Local Folders"), versus cached copies of online files ("synchronized"). It's not safe to regard your synchronized folders as permanent.
    So, synchronized folders on an IMAP server are "mirrored" in Thunderbird so you do have a local (albeit temporary and transient) copy of messages; this is done mainly to avoid repeatedly downloading messages if you re-read them, and it makes searching faster an more efficient. But these "synchronized" message track what's being done on the server, and so if they are deleted anywhere, all synchronized devices will at some point also see the deleted messages vanishing. (Unless you made a local copy in the Local Folders account.)
    I use a gmail account pretty much as you have described; I copy or move messages to that account so they are visible in my phone, my tablet, my own laptop and my works computer. It's free, and it's "in the cloud"; the only reservation I have is its privacy. There are other providers (e.g. 1&1/gmx) who don't seem to have the data collection fetish that google thrives on.
    It's fairly simple to create filters in Thunderbird to automatically copy messages to your "cloud account"; even better is to set up forwarding rules on the other accounts' servers, so your messages are automatically sent on and waiting for you when you next login, already in the cloud account.

  • Best practice for saving and recalling objects from disk?

    I've been using the OOP features of LabVIEW for various projects lately and one thing that I struggle with is a clean method to save and recall objects.
    Most of my design schemes have consisted of a commanding objects which holds a collection of worker objects.  Its a pretty simple model, but seems to work for some design problems.  The commander and my interface talk to each other and the commander sends orders to his minions in order to get things done.  For example, one parrent class might be called "Data Device Collection" and it has a property that is an array of "Data Device" objects.
    The Data Device object is a parent class and its children consist of various data devices such as "DAQmx Device", "O-Scope Device", "RS-232 Device", etc.
    When it comes to saving and loading data, the commanding class's "Save" or "Load" routine is called and at that time all of the minions' settings are saved or recalled from disk.
    My save routine is more-or-less straight forward, although it still requires an overwriting "Save" and "Load" vi.  Here is an example:
    It isn't too bad in that it is pretty straight forward and simple and there also would be no changes to this if the data structure of the class changed at all.  It also can save more generalized settings from it's parrent's class which is also a good feature.  What I don't like is that it looks essentially the same for each child class, but I'm at a loss on an effective way to move the handling of the save routing into the parent class.
    The load routine is more problematic for me.  Here is an example:
    Again, the desirability of moving this into the parent class would be awesome.  But the biggest complaint here is that I can't maintain my dynamic dispatch input-output requirements because the object that I load is strictly typed.  Instead I have to rely on reading the information from the loaded object and then writing that information to the object that exists on the dynamic dispatch wire.  I also dislike that unlike my Save Routine, I will need to modify this VI if my data structure of my object changes.
    Anyway, any input and insight would be great.  I'm really tired of writing these same VIs over-and-over-and-over again, and am after a better way to take care of this in the parent class by keeping the code generalized but still maintain the ability to bring back the saved parameters of each of the children classes.
    Thanks for your time.

    I'm with Ben. Don't rely on the current ability to serialize an object. Create a save method and implement some form of data persistence there. If you modify your class you might be disappointed when you cannot load objects you previously saved. It mostly works but as soon as you reset the version information in the class, you can no longer load the old objects. This is fine if you know how to avoid resetting the history. One thing that will do this is if you move the class into or out of a library. It becomes a new class with version 1.0.0 and it no longer recognizes the old objects.
    [Edit:  I see that you are just writing to a binary file. I'm not sure you can load older objects anyway using that method but I have never tried it.]
    This will not help you right now but there are plans for a nice robust API for saving objects.
