Gaussian Blur effect causing black frames when rendered.

I am only using one effect in my video, its the gaussian blur, and in the previewer it shows the effect being applied, however it shows random black frames in the previewer, I thought this was just a random previewer issue.
I then rendered the video but when the blur effect is being applied it is showing random black frames in the video.

Talked to customer support and found out that it was a duplicate Gaussian Blur effect on the same frame causing it to have some issues sigh*
But thank you for the info about the media cache, I did not know about that.

AE CC 2014 Corrupted and Glitched frames when rendering to Quicktime

Ever since upgrading to the newest version of After Effects, I've been getting corrupted and glitched frames when rendering videos with a Quicktime holder. My normal workflow is rendering the video straight out of AE, but it also happens when rendering with Adobe Media Encoder, or even while using the "BG Renderer" script for AE that renders from the terminal. It happens whether I have multiprocessing enabled or not.
The corruption differs depending on what codec I'm using, but in the Cineform Codec it shows up as green frames:
On DNxHD they show up as Red frames (don't have a screencap of this one but you get the idea).
Using the QT Animation Codec they show up as static or distortion:
I have not found a codec that does not become corrupted when encased in the QT holder. Image sequences render out fine, and Cineform with an AVI holder renders out fine.
Even more strangely, I can fix the problem if I link the AE composition to Premiere, then render the QT file out through Premiere itself. The fact that Premiere calls and renders the Comp fine but AE does not, makes me think this is a bug in AE's treatment of Quicktime rather then a driver/system incompatibility on my end. But I'm certainly willing to try any suggestions the community might have for me =]

Script to Edit Gaussian Blur Effect

Hello
I have a complex piece of artwork which has to be scaled up by a factor of 10. No problem except the Gaussian Blur Effect will not scale.
Rather than go through each path and edit the blur amount (by a factor of 10) I had hoped I could write a script which would iterate through every path and if it had a Gaussian Blur Effect edit the value.
Looking in the AppleScript dictionary and online I can't see any way of accessing a path's Appearance or Effects.
I would be very grateful for some advice on this before I start the tedious process of manually changing the values.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I thought as much. It's disappointing really.
The select filters will not unfortunately be helpful because the blurs are different so I can't select all blurred items because I don't want to set them all the same and equally I can't pick one and select all with the same blur amount because I don't know if I have changed all of the items.
I've just got my head down and am selecting them all individually and editing them!

There are a few ways to make a freeze frame. What exactly are you doing? Using the hold function? Connecting a freeze frame? Exporting a still frame? Happens it's because of the specs of your media. What are they?

How to avoid darker color behind a gaussian blur effect?

I have used the effect gaussian blur with black text on top to make a logo.
My problem occures when I try to place the file on a coloured background e.g. a photo and print it. A darker colored area appears behind the gaussian blur. The logo is to be used by others and hence I would like to keep it a vector/illustrator file (not a pixelated photoshop file).
- I have saved it as an ai
- I have all the artwork in one layer
- I have tried object > flatten transparency (but then the area turns white)
- I have tried effect > Document raster effects settings (resolution 1200 dpi / add 35,28 mm around object)

- I use Illustrator CC v. 17.1.0. 64-bit
- the file is cmyk and I only use process colors
- the line is 8 pt and effect is applied with 8 px blur
- everything else in the document is outlines and some text and lines are crossing the blurred object
- color settings: European coated offset ECI
I hope I haven't missed anything. The logo is not launched, but I have enclosed I photo file that is similar and where the same problem occur. The file is placed in InDesign on a blue square and printed from InDesign to a OKIC8660 laser printer.
The light blue to the left is the correct color. The darker blue is not supposed to happen. The yellow is where the gaussian blur is applied.

Missing tools in Fast-Blur effect, Gaussian Blur effect, ...

Hey there,
I'm using Premiere Pro CC and I was just about to mask an object in my video with the Fast-Blur effect (Schneller Weichzeichner in german and as it can be seen in the attached image).
But when I apply this effect to my video it won't show me any tool I could apply it with. It's the same with any blur effect, such as the Gaussian Blur.
These tools should be right above the adjuster from 0 to 127. Any idea?

If you want to use the mask tool you need to update to CC2014 (8.2). It looks like you are atill on CC7.

Audio advanced by 3 frames when rendered

I'm using CS5 Production Suite.
Cameras are:
Sony FX1000
Sony AX2000
Sony V1U
Sony SR11
Canon 7D
Sequences are created using an XDCAM HD 1080 30p preset.
I'm shooting live music videos & all videos are shot in 30P (most tracks at 1920 x 1080 with the FX1000 at 1440 x 1080, all at 48 Khz stereo).
The H.264 preset has been slightly modified to render at 1280 x 720 30P, audio is shot and renedered at 48 Khz stereo.
In the editing window things are synched perfectly. When I export to an MP4 file using the H.264 preset the audio gets rendered out of synch advanced by 3 frames. If I go into the editing window and delay the audio by 3 frames it renders the output file in perfect synch. This is true for on-camera audio tracks, multi-camera edited audio tracks and for tracks with imported audio wave files produced in Cubase by the sound engineer.
Can someone help me understand why this renders out of synch?

Thank you Harm for your help. When I use the new
item icon to create a new sequence the XDCAM presets match the parameters of
what my cameras shoot more closely than any others. I did take the base
preset for the XDCAM 1080 30p and modify it a bit to better match my cameras. But the only mismatch I have is that the FX shoots 1440x1080 1.333 pixels and the others shoot 1920x1080 1.0 pixels. But that's a video issue and I assumed it didn't affect the audio output. I've tried other settings, like the ones worked under CS4, but they produced jerky video and audio in CS5.
May I ask which preset you would suggest based on the cameras and parameters of the footage?

Black frame when cropping raw

When editing Canon raw images (downloaded from Canon 20D) I am frequently encountering a problem when cropping. After cropping the image, it looks fine on the screen. But when I leave edit mode and return to the library, I find that instead of the image being cropped, the area of the image I wanted to keep has just remained the same size and the areas I intended to remove have just been replaced with a black frame. Anyone else have this problem? The only way I have been able to fix is to "Revert to Original" and then do my editing in two steps: everything but crop, save and then crop. Very annoying.

I too have the Canon 20D. I just tried an edit using iPhoto and it worked fine. I think you might be missing a step - (?)
*Click the crop icon, layout the area you want to keep (background/edges will become darker/black)
*Click the crop icon again.

Opacity fade leaves black frame when removed

I have been using fades in opacity under a clip's Video Animation option. What has me frustrated is that, if I try to remove the fade by pushing the opacity slider back to the end (or beginning) of a clip, it leaves one black frame. Cutting the frame off is impossible because FCP thinks it's helping me by maintaining my "fade." My solution up to this point has been to reinsert the clip, but that is just too silly for words. Any insight, help or commiserations? Thanks, guys!

What are the specs of the media? What are the project properties? Is the clip retimed?

After Effects CC 12.2.1.5 "mixing" frames when rendering

So this is the most extreme bug I've ever seen because it makes AE CC absolutely unreliable:
I am rendering an Apple prores File as usual. Just converting to 16 bit an rendering to Apple prores 444.
Just somewhere in the middle of the clip there is a frame that doesn't belong there. It comes from two or three seconds before
which means it is duplicated and placed in between other frames. This looks like a very bad mistake!
Of course everything is fine in the original clip I am rendering from!
So I need to check every rendering because of this and if there is a mistake I had to re-render again and again and again.
I have been working with AE for years now and never had something similar until the last version of AE CC.

N-Square effect causes blackness

I shot a clip of myself using built in iSight on my MBP and attemped to apply the N-Square effec. Problem: it turns the clip into blackness when I replay it. I used a different level of squares and it give me the same result...blackness. Anybody share this problem or have a solution? Thanks.

have you saved the project after applying the effect? sometimes saving it makes the transition/effect work/appear!

After Effects, wierd black bars after rendering.. please help

i'm editing a stop-motion video. i have a big problem that with AEcs5 i never had.
when i use "time reversal layer" with some image sequence layer (but also with a .mov with alpha) AE become crazy:
sometimes he erase (or jump) some frames, sometimes he put frames from other image sequence that i didn' put in the timeline!!
if u see the image there is nothing here, and appears an image that i didn't put there!!

Multiple (Legacy) Blur Effects plus various opacities cause file to crash upon Save. What to do?

We have to work with designers' files and we have some that have many layered objects that use Gaussian Blur effects created in CS5 (we're in CS6), plus various opacities, opacity masks, etc. Pretty much the kitchen sink. The files can't be saved except by using the most powerful Mac in the office. I have a Quad-Core processor running Snow Leopard, with 6 GB of RAM, and it's not enough. Any tricks? Perhaps saving without Use Compression or something?

Lots to be excited about. BUT...Just updated to 8.1 on one of my computers to test it out...
Sadly, the following issue is NOT fixed for me. Is it with new projects only? I haven't started a new project on 8.1 I've only opened an old project but the issue that I'm referring to which involves also a delay/freeze of anywhere from a few seconds to a MINUTE while the render bar goes from yellow to red and then back to yellow is still there. Boo.

Switching between sequences can turn the render bar red.
This issue is incredibly easy to replicate. I really do hope it gets fixed. Here are the steps:
1) Create two sequences with multiple short clips (the more clips the better)
2) Make sure GPU acceleration is enabled.
3) Add warp stabilizer to the clips in both sequences. Again, the more clips the longer the delay/freeze will be as the render bar goes from YELLOW to RED and then eventually back to YELLOW again.
4) Hit SAVE.
5) Now, toggle between sequences. You'll hit a short delay with a few clips stabilized and a LONG delay with lots stabilized. In my case this delay is around a full minute. The render bar will go from YELLOW to RED and then back to yellow...eventually.
6) Toggle back to the original sequence and the delay occurs again.
7) Once you've toggled between sequences and have gone through this delay, that's it, there is no longer a delay...UNTIL...(and here's the big kicker)...until the project is SAVED again. After that the issue returns when you toggle between sequences. Both saving manually and AUTOSAVING cause this issue. No way around it except not editing with GPU acceleration.
Not sure what the issue is...caching issue when saving maybe? Either way, it stinks and it's still there in 8.1. Big bummer.
Again, lots to be excited about with this release but I really was hopefully this specific issue was resolved.
Sigh.

Gaussian Blur is different when Scaling

I have a problem when I scaled one object which has Gaussian Blur effect. Before it is scaled it looks smooth and nice (1st image), however when it is scaled to larger size, the Gaussian Blur does not look the same (2nd image). Please refer to my screen shots for better understanding. Any help and tip is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just managing to collect my wits (easier here an hour after midnight).
The Gaussian Blur is fundamentally a Photoshop effect and therefore fails to answer to the Scale Strokes & Effects.
You will need to increase the value as suggested, or you may turn the object into a Symbol before scaling, and then it should behave as you wish.
