GB   Audiogram 6: multitrack problem

I have a problem with my audiogram 6.
I'm really new in home recording and I've always recorded one track per time (guitar first then the bass then drums then vocals).
I read that GB allows you to record in multitrack...this is great to me but...I JUST CAN'T!!!!
I have a Yamaha Audiogram 6 that works perfectly...but GB recognize it as a single input channel device...
...in Cubase it works as a 4 input channel device and I can record in multitrack but I don't like Cubase...I prefer GB.
So the device works good...I downloaded latest driver...in system preference the Audiogram is set up for the incoming audio...same in GB...
When I look in the track inputs setup panel it only appears "Yamaha Mono 1" and no "Mono 2" and "Stere 1/2" as I expect...
...where's the problem guys?
Please help me...
I'm going mad on this!!!!
Sorry for my english and thanx for the answer.

I just downloaded the manual - it states clearly:
The AUDIOGRAM interface connects to your computer via the supplied USB cable. Stereo audio data is transferred in both directions—from the interface to the computer, and vice-versa—via the USB con- nection (44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sampling frequency).

  • Adobe Audition CS6 and Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire multitrack problem

I have the Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire mixer and am using Adobe Audition CS6 for my recording program.
I'm trying to connect 4 microphones via XLR and have them run in individual channels in Audition but I can't get more than 2 to show up on the program even though I have 3 plugged in right now. On top of that, I have to run input 1 and input 2 as mono channels instead of stereo channels to get it to work at all.
I'm looking to do a Podcast with my set up, is there a better program to use to record and edit? Or am I missing a driver for Audition or the Multi Mix?
    Thanks!

Well, first the easy bit.  Microphones ARE mono devices so using mono channels is absolutely correct.
Beyond that, you mention drivers.  There are no special drivers for Audition but it is worth going to http://www.alesis.com/multimix8firewire to see if there are any driver updates for your mixer.
You don't mention what Operating System you're using but whichever it is, you should go to the Audio Setup page for Windows (i.e. not in Audition) and make sure it's detecting all the channels from the Alesis properly.  You may have to set the Alesis as your default audio device for this.
On the Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware Setup menu in Audition, make sure you have the proper device type selected--I'd guess ASIO for a start.  Make sure your Alesis is selected as the default hardware.
On the Edit/Preferences/Audio Channel Mapping menu, make sure you can see all the channels from your Alesis.
Finally, on the Multitrack screen, set the Input for each track to be the appropriate channel from the Alesis.  If you're going to do this regularly, I recommend you get everything set up then save it as a Session template.
And I can't think of anything better than Audition for what you want to do...that's why it's used in thousands of radio stations around the world!

  • Weird Multitrack problem???

This weekend I was multi-tracking some drums (6 tracks) along with some other midi instruments playing. After I recorded the drums, I went back to punch a few lines and the kick track alone would not record information. The rest of the tracks would? The kick track would show the block like it was putting info down, but after done recording there was no wave with the colored block?
Now here is how I got it to work. I had to glue the broken regions (from the punches) together on the kick track and after that, the kick track would record right.
Does anybody have a clue what I was doing wrong??? Does it have to do with grid settings or etc. ?????

i've had this happen and the newest audio file is sitting behing the first take. it only happened on trk 1 and the other 10 would punch in fine (show up). if it happens again just cut the offending track at the P/I and P/O points and remove. you can also just cut at the in point and slide it enough to see the new track.

  • Playback problems in multitrack

I'm using adobe audition 3 and everytime I try and play over 4 or 5 tracks in multitrack all together I get a mix of glitches, delays and static. The song sound fine when mixed down, but I can't work on it when I can't hear it properly. I've tried downloading an asos driver which helped a little but the problem is still bad.
I'm working off of a toshiba laptop that is very good at multitasking, this is the first problem I've met with it.
Do I need a usb sound card? I'm happy to pay for one if it'll solve the problem. I saw creative have one for 40euro but I'm not sure if it'll do the job?
    Any help would be appriciated!!
(also I only use the program for mixing, not recording)

...though I have to say even the built in drive should be able to do a lot better than 4 or 5 tracks unless you're using a lot of processor-heavy real time effects.
One thing you should do is make sure you shut down any un-needed software running in backround when you're trying to do sound work.  Pay special attention to things like WiFi networking and anti virus software.
You might also want to Google on "optimising your computer for audio".  There are a number of sites that give hints for things that can improve performance...I won't try to link any here because they can be a bit specific to your version of windows.
Finally, although an external USB sound card won't help you problem of playback, it will improve quality of your recordings.  However, I'd be remiss if I didn't say "don't touch a creative one".  They're okay for gaming but really not what you want for any sound recording and mixing.  Again, there are topics in here and on the Audiomasters forum listing ones that are more suitable.

  • Problems with audio multitracking

    Hi
I'm having some serious troubles in multitracking with my portable rig..
Sometimes I track outside of my studio with a Power Book G4 1,5 Ghz, 2GB ram, OSX 10.4.6, Logic Pro 7.2.1, External Audio Dedicated only Firewire 800 LaCie HD. the usual interface is a Tascam FW1884.
This is the scenario i found for example yesterday:
14 tracks to record (a drumkit) 24 [email protected] khz, 1 stereo track as a reference slave, 1 audio instrument giving click to the drummer, 14 empty tracks more on the arrange window.
If I record with the normal count in everything runs fine, but as I try to punch in on the fly, if we had to redo a passage, the first track comes out empty, no way: I've tryed to relaunch Logic, logout, restart, repair permissions but everything failed so my only chance were to restart every time with a gap..:(
Another annoyng problem is that every time I hit stop, Logic hangs for a while with a spinning ball...then goes normally to waveform redraw and so I can go on, with a lot of waste of time.
I thought that could be an issue related to my Tascam so yesterday I had a Metric Halo 2882: same problems (though great sound!)
At this stage the only thing that I'm missing is to update my PB to 10.4.7 or give up Logic for this kind of works..:(
    Any input or suggestion?
Thanks in advance for your attention
    Ciao Fabio

I've had no reliable punch in with Logic for around two years now, ever since V7 showed up. If I have software monitoring enabled all my inputs are punch enabled but with it disabled (an essential condition for me) I can punch only via inputs 1,2, and 9. The red "REC" icon ought to switch to "punch" when play is engaged but doesn't for all inputs bar 1,2, and 9, and if I punch in all I get is silence recorded. I spent an extraordinary amount of time troubleshooting, going as far as a complete reformat of all disks and redownloading every add on, driver, etc, nothing made any difference. I use Cubase and enjoy punching on the fly once again. I just checked Logic again - it's been a while - sadly no change still. Let us know if you discover anything helpful. I tried briefly reassigning my key commands today too, based upon your idea that yours got 'confused', again no difference.
An oddness I discovered along the way was that if I was recording, say, via input 3 and punched in the source jumped from input 3 to the next highest input, 4. If I was recording live guitar via input 3 and punched in the resulting overdub recorded was a midi keyboard assigned to input 4! I haven't checked if this behaviour is still happening.
I suppose the good news is that this hideous behaviour only affects very few of us.

  • Multitrack project problems

So i use multitrack projects quite frequently to loop music, etc. Lately Soundtrack has been crashing 2-5 a day while using it. Nothing else is open, i am wondering if anyone else is having problems quite like this and if it was resolved. I do send the report to apple but have heard nothing from them....Any help would be useful...i also get this with Motion and Livetype, but thankfully not yet with FCP.

    Hi Emily,
What audio interface are you using? If you're not using Apple's built-in audio interface, are you using the most up-to-date driver supported for use under the version of OS X that you are running?

  • Problem sending timeline from Final Cut to a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project

    Hello,
Thank you in advance for reading.  I am having trouble sending a timeline from Final Cut to a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project.  Final Cut makes a new Soundtrack Pro project file just fine and opens Soundtrack Pro as it's supposed to, but the project in Soundtrack Pro only has a portion of my audio tracks.  I've tried sending by control clicking the sequence in the browser and selecting 'Send to Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project' as well as highlighting my entire timeline and doing the same.  Both result in the same Soundtrack Pro proejct with about 1/3 of my total 48 audio tracks (lots of sound FX).
I'm using Final Cut 7.0.2 and Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1  My computer is a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8, 2.26 ghz intel core 2 duo, 4 gb ram.
Any suggestions (or workarounds, if it comes to that) anyone has will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again, Gabe

Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound?  This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.
What does it say for audio?

  • Problem in sending multitrack project back to FCP

I want to be able to import a multitrack project back into FCP, with the most editability in FCP, but the only way I have found to do this is to export tracks and then find then in the browser and drag them into my FCP project. Is their an easier way to do this?

Pretty much . . . no. This is a feature I'm sure MANY would appreciate, the ability for STP to export a multi track project one could simply import in to FCP. As of right now, you can't.

  • Workaround for Multitrack Punch in Take selection Problems

    Hi all,
In a session recently I found a work around for the fact that, when you're recording to more than one channel in a group dropping in is flakey as anything.
Currently if you drop in while multiple channels are grouped only one channel will replace the existing region and all the others will stay in overlap mode, meaning things get very confusing an edits get very messy. And when not using replace mode the comping tool will show different things in each region ie one will show the comp, one will show the new take only, some may show the old take.
BUT if you ALWAYS use the group toggle to turn off all groups when dropping in you don't get this problem. And using the comping/multitake tool works fine too.
It's a bit fiddly, and I'm sure some people will have either found this already or never come across the problem as they don't use groups. But it was a revelation to me, it's a shame to have to work around an obvious flaw like this, but it's nice to find a way of saving some time fixing drop ins.

    Hi ckhordiasma
Thanks for reviving ths old thread. How about trying Dolby drivers? It sounds great and could possibly resolve those issues without going through too much troubleshooting.
The link is under my signature.
    Hope it helps!

  • Problem obtaining stereo separation in multitrack export mixdown

When I place stereo mp3 files in the timeline (one voice in the left and one in the right channel) and then select File - Export - Multitrack Mixdown - Entire Session, what I get is a mono mix in the left channel and a mono mix in the right channel. How can I export a multitrack mixdown and keep the stereo separation?

Thank you, Steve. Here is some more information.
Each channel of each stereo mp3 file contains one voice. The recording is an interview recorded using a telephone digital audio hybrid. My voice from a microphone is in the left channel. The voice from the telephone of the person interviewed is in the right channel.
For this particular interview, the recorder was stopped and restarted twice, resulting in three mp3 files. I want to make one mp3 file that includes all three segments, with a gap of silence between the segments so it is clear that some of the recording is missing.
I opened a multitrack session and put each mp3 file into a timeline, one after the other. In the multitrack time line, I can see the waveforms representing the left channel and the right channel.
When I select File - Export - Multitrack Mixdown - Entire Session, the result is a single mp3 file that has the left+right channel as a mono mix in the left channel, and the same in the right channel -- the left+right channel as a mono mix. The stereo separation that exists in the original mp3 files is lost in the multitrack session mixdown. Even though the mixdown is two-channel stereo, the left channel contains both my voice and the voice from the telephone. The right channel contains the same.
I have the Export Multitrack Mixdown dialog box open now, as I write this. Under MIxdown Options, there is a Change button. When I click the Change button, a Mixdown Options dialog box opens. Under Master, it has check boxes for Mono, Stereo and 5.1. When I check Mono, the result of the mixdown is a monaural mp3 file with the left and right channels combined. When I click on Stero, the result of the mixdown is the left+right channel in the left channel, and the left+right channel in the right channel. To put it another way, the left channel has a mono mix, and the right channel has a mono mix. The separation of my voice in the left channel and the person interviewed in the right channel is lost.
If there is a way to use the multitrack session to export an mp3 that maintains the stereo separation of the original mp3 files used in the session, I would be much obliged for your help in learning how.
Many thanks, and all the best to you.

  • Problem with exporting Multitrack Mixdowns

    Hello,
Hope someone can help me out!
Whenever I export my Multitrack mixdowns to mp3 files, the mp3 file sounds very different than it does inside Audition and I can't figure out why. When I play the multitrack in Audition it sounds fine, but once I export the file the volume is all messed up with some tracks louder than others (I used layers) and there's also a loud hissing white noise in the background that wasn't there when I play it in Audition.
I'm guessing it has something to do with the export settings? I've tried playing around with the settings but nothing worked.

Thanks for your reply. I'm using 4800Hz for sample rate and 192 for bit rates. I've tried higher quality settings but it seems to make the volumes of the tracks within the mp3 mixdown even more contrast (one track is super loud while another you can barely hear) whereas in Audition they all sound the same volume. The mp3 file volume and quality is not matching up with what I hear in Audition. The mp3 file is also not as "bass" sounding as it is in Audition.

  • Problems Exporting Multitrack and keeping sound fx

So I have this gunfire project that we've been working on, and add our highs, sweeteners and good bass layers.  Total of 10 audio tracks.  In Soundbooth, prior to exporting a multitrack file, it sounds beautiful.  When exporting the file to .wav uncompressed at any bitrate or khz, we literally lose the bass.  The file still sounds good, we can add other effects, but we lose the bass.  We've tried different files, different iterations, but there is absolutely, clearly a bass falloff.
Has anyone seen this or know if it's something to do with the file type of uncompressed .wav?  We have tried everything we can think of and can't find anything on it anywhere.  Personally, I think it's a bug because I've never experienced this before and someone mentioned that you can't compress this many layers without losing something.  But I have great sounds from sound packs, all .wav that clearly don't lose elements.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

This always happened in Lr 1.0.
Lr 1.1 has the option of choosing the copyright status just like PS. It is near the bottom when All Metadata is shown.

  • Problem beim Exportieren von Multitracks

    Hallo,

  • Audition 3 - Paste in Multitrack, slow stop, and clicking

Hi,   Long-time Cool Edit Pro 2.0 user being forced to upgrade due to Windows 7. I'm testing AA 3 and 'm having some problems.
First, I'm thrilled it's now possible to copy/paste in multritrack view. However, is it possible to paste clips from multiple tracks so that the copied clips paste into the existing tracks rather than new ones? As it is, when I copy and paste clips from mulutple tracks the top track pastes into the original track but the rest paste into new tracks, then I have to manutally move the pasted clips to the correct tracks and delete the new ones. I know you can highlight clips and crtl-right click/drag to copy and keep them on the original tracks, but it would be nice so be able to do the same with standard copy/paste.
Second,  I'm using an external USB audio device (Lexicon Alpha). When I press stop during playback (either in multitrack or edit view), the system stalls (with the swirling mouse  "wait" symbol) for a short time (maybe half a second) before I can do  anything. This doesn't happen when I use the onboard sound card (no lag at all when stopping or starting). I assumed the lag was due to the USB cord or something, but there's no pause at all in any other programs I've tried (such as Cubase). Is there a setting in Audition that might affect the lag time?
Lastly, a "click" sound is produced every time I press play (either in multitrack or edit view). This happens whether using onboard sound or the USB device. Again, it doesn't happen in any other progams. It's making it very difficult to preview changes to the beginnings of audio files, since I have to place the cursor near the end of the track and loop-play so it loops back to the beginning after the click has happened.
Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me!

I'm not bringing in new audio, I'm copying existing clips and trying to paste them into the tracks they originally came from, rather than into new ones. The uppermost clip of a copied group pastes into its original track, but the clips on the tracks below it all paste into new tracks rather than into the tracks they originally came from.
BTW I realized ctrl/right-click and drag creates a new copy of a sound file rather than just duplicating it so that doesn't work either.
