GB Pound sterling symbol £ importing from script

Apex v3.1.2.00.02
I am migrating a large application to a new network.
I exported the original app from the old network as Unicode UTF-8 character set. I have since completed a lot of development work on the app on the new network for hardening purposes.
My problem comes now when I try to export the app from the new network (for transport to test and live environments). The app has a large number of "£" (GB pound sterling) signs hard coded into column headers and text.
When I export the application, all the £ signs change to £
I'm thinking this is a character set issue, but I don't get an option to change the character set on export... it is set to Unicode UTF-8.
I tried a find and replace in the exported source code (which I know is unsupported), but that ended up producing another funny character (a diamond with a ? in the middle of it) instead of the £ symbol.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance,
Gus..

Hi Joel...
You are right, it isn't fixed...
in our new system, we have in our F:\oracle\product\10gAS\10g_MT\Apache\modplsql\conf\marvel.conf file... (xxx's are blanked out data)

    PlsqlDatabasePassword xxxxxxxxxx
    Allow from all
</Location>From my tests, if I export from the Apex application Import/Export button, (exporting as DOS) I get the funny character in the export file.
If I import that application back in using the Apex application Import/Export button, I have no problem, the characters are interpreted correctly.
If I import the application using our automated migration script (below), the characters are NOT interpreted correctly, we get £ instead of £shown in the Apex development environment and on the running application.

    how to get pound sterling symbol on spanish keyboard?

    Depends which Spanish layout;
    Spanish - alt + 9 (alt is opt or ⌥ on some keyboards).
    Spanish ISO - shift + alt + 4.
    You can find all these using keyboard viewer;
    System Preferences > Language and Text > Input Sources tab. Top of the left column, tick (check) "Keyboard and Character Viewer", Bottom of window next to search field, tick "Show input menu in menu bar"
    System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab; tick "show keyboard and character viewers in menu bar"
    Hold down the alt key and the alternative symbols and diacritics will be shown. Shift + alt shows more.
    The input sources menu in Language and text allows you to select  whatever keyboard you want.

  • Calling Functions From Import Integration Script

    I've got an import integration script that runs fine, however I also have several DataPump scripts that are used in FDM to change specific columns as they come in. I can take the code from the scripts and add to the Import Integration script, but I would rather just call those other functions from the VBScript. I don't see any docs on this, and I'm just wondering if anyone has done this or can describe how I can do it.
    Is it possible? Since the standard import scripts reference the strField and the strRecord, can these functions be called from the import integration script?

    strField and strRecord are arguments passed by the application to the import function. The represent the field as defined by the import format and the record that is being processed during the import.
    Given that, I'm not sure how to answer your question.

  • Using  FDM Import Action script to import data from ERPI table "tdataseg_t"

    Hi Experts
    I have extracted data from EBS using ERPI and loaded into the intermediate table "tdataseg_t"
    I am trying to use Import Action script within FDM to extract data from "tdataseg_t" table (where ERPI extract data is stored) as i could not use the normal import script.
    Requirement : I have to restrict the custom 2 dimension based on Account dimension.
    Dim Account
    Account = ???? ( i am struck here)
    If Account = 1000 to 5000 Then
    Custom2 = Right( product , 5)
    End If
    but , I could not find the exact syntax to call the Account dimension from the "tdataseg_t" table.
    Please Advise
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Importing data via a manual script defeats the purpose of ERPi. As it will not provide you an audit trail, drill-through/drill-back, etc.
    Your best bet is to use the default settings by the software. Just because it returns more records than you want is not a bad thing. You can conditionally change/alter the information either in an EventScript inside of FDM or by mapping the un-needed information to IGNORE.
    Thank you,

  • Typing british pound sterling currence symbol on MacBookPro purchased in US

    I purchased my MacBookPro in the US and I am now in england and want to type a pricing sheet with prices in british pounds sterling. But, so far, I have not been able to figure out how. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks
    Pove

    You can change your 'input' source temporarily or permanently in the system preferences > International tab.
    Under Formats choose your Region for the current area and documents and that will provide correct time, date and currency and numbering.
    Under Input Menu, you can choose to keep the various input sources that you want to use in the menu bar for easy switching.
    Also, the Input Menu allows you to set the menu bar item to show various input sources that you want as options for your data and documents as well as showing the "Keyboard Viewer" and Character Palette.
    You can choose to allow different input sources for each document or one input source for all.
    You can use keyboard shortcuts to choose input or you can choose from the dropdown menu which is then set in the menubar.
    Check out the International tab options; they provide great customisation of your system.

  • British Pound Sterling with UTF-8 and ISO-8859-15

    Please excuse my long-windedness ... I'm simply trying to answer all possible questions up front and give the most possible information. I've searched through tons of forums and all over various sites and references and am not able to come up with a concrete solution to this. I'd appreciate any help anyone has.
    I'm having some trouble with character sets and international currencies.
    Our server was recently upgraded from Red Hat 7.3 to Red Hat 8.0. I understand that the default system encoding thus changed from ISO-8859-15 to UTF-8. I have verified this by executing the following:
    public class WhichEncoding {
      public static void main(String args[])
        String p = System.getProperty("file.encoding");
        System.out.println(p);
    }I have two machines, one which represents the old system (7.3) and one representing the new (8.0), which I will call machine73 and machine80 respectively.
    [machine73:~]# java WhichEncoding
    ISO-8859-15
    [machine80:~]# java WhichEncoding
    UTF-8I have also verified that the JVM is using the correct default character set by executing the following:
    import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
    import java.io.OutputStreamWriter;
    public class WhichCharset {
        public static void main (String[] args) {
            String foo = (String)(new OutputStreamWriter(new ByteArrayOutputStream())).getEncoding();
            System.out.println(foo);
    }which yields:
    [machine73:~]# java WhichCharset
    ISO-8859-15
    [machine80:~]# java WhichCharset
    UTF8Here comes the problem. I have the following piece of code:
    import java.text.NumberFormat;
    import java.util.Locale;
    public class TestPoundSterling
        public static void main (String[] args)
            NumberFormat nf = NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance(new Locale("en", "GB"));
            System.out.println(nf.format(1.23));
    }When I compile and execute this, I see mixed results. On machine73, I see what I would expect to see, the British Pound Sterling followed by 1.23. To be sure, I outputted the results to a file which I viewed in a hex editor, and observed [A3 31 2E 32 33 0A], which seems to be correct.
    However, when I execute it on machine80, I see a capital A with a circumflex (carat) preceding the British Pound Sterling and the 1.23. The hex editor shows [C2 A3 31 2E 32 33 0A].
    I looked up these hexadecimal values:
    Extended ASCII
    0xC2 = "T symbol"
    0xA3 = lowercase "u" with grave
    ISO-8859-1
    0xC2 = Capital "A" with circumflex (carat)
    0xA3 = British Pound Sterling
    Unicode Latin-1
    0x00C2 = Capital "A" with circumflex (carat)
    0x00A3 = British Pound Sterling
    (This explains why, when I remove /bin/unicode_start and reboot, I see a "T symbol" and "u" with a grave in place of what I saw before ... probably an irrelevant sidenote).
    I found a possible answer on http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/unicode.html#utf-8 under the Examples section. Apparently, a conversion between Unicode and UTF-8 acts differently based on the original Unicode value. Since the Pound Sterling falls between U-00000080 U-000007FF (using the chart on the mentioned site), the conversion would be (as far as I can tell):
    U-000000A3 = 11000010 10101001 = 0xC2 0xA3
    This appears to be where the extra 0xC2 pops up.
    Finally, to the whole point of this: How can I fix this so that things work as they should on machine80 like they did on machine73. All I want to see at the command line is the Pound Sterling. Getting the 0xC2 preceding the Pound Sterling causes some parts of my applications to fail.
    Here's some additional information that might be of use:
    [machine73:~]# cat /etc/sysconfig/i18n
    LANG="en_US.iso885915"
    SUPPORTED="en_US.iso885915:en_US:en"
    SYSFONT="lat0-sun16"
    SYSFONTACM="iso15"
    [machine73:~]# echo $LANG
    en_US.iso885915
    [machine80:~]# cat /etc/sysconfig/i18n
    LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
    SUPPORTED="en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en"
    SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"
    [machine80:~]# echo $LANG
    en_US.UTF-8Any help is very, very much appreciated. Thanks.

    you didn't look hard enough, this is a faq...
    there three options:
    1) change the system encoding by setting LANG or LC_CTYPE environment variables... assuming you use bash:bash$ export LC_CTYPE=en_GB.iso88591 you can check the available locales with locale -a ... pipe it to grep en_GB to filter out the non-british english locales
    -OR-
    2) change the java default encoding from the command line with -Dfile.encoding... run with$ java -Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1 yourclass-OR-
    3) set the encoding from within the program with OutputStreamWriter, or use a PrintStream that has the encoding set..PrintStream out = new PrintStream(new FileOutputStream(FileDescriptor.out), true, "ISO-8859-1");
    System.setOut(out);see also the internationalization tutorial & the javadoc of the related classes....

  • PDFs using BI publisher and special characters - pound sterling

    I have a table with character strings which include the £ pound sterling sign.
    If I create an xml file from the table using the escape sequence for the pound sign & # 163; and load it into BI publisher, the pdf renders correctly using an rtf template.
    If I include the pound sign in the rtf template itself the pdf renders correctly and if I use a report query in Apex based on the table, and an rtf template then the pdf renders correctly.
    However there is a limit to the number of columns that can be sent to BI via the report query - we have found this to be 119 columns. For more than this we have been using a stored function to return xml data as a clob and use the clob to generate the pdf with the rtf report layout (using get_print_document). This method works fine but the pound sign is not rendered correctly (appears as "?").
    The NLS_LANG is set to english_united kingdom in the database and in BI publisher. The locale in bi publisher is en_GB. BI will create the pdf correctly with the pound sign if using a standard xml file (with escape seq for pound) so I am sure it is not a language issue in BI/Apex.
    Any ampersands in the xml cause the pdf to fail completely and we cannot represent special characters with a sequence containing the ampersand for this reason. I have tried "& # 163;" and "& amp;#163;" and variations and have also tried using CDATA, none of which gives the correct pdf output. I have also tried to switch the encoding to Windows-1252 or ISO-8859-1 in the header of the xml (xml generated by stored procedure so can control this), but this gives incorrect results too.
    We also need to send other special characters to BI via get_print_document and apex (bullet points, ampersands, dashes ) but cannot use the escape sequences because of the ampersand problem.
    Has anyone had any success with this?
    Is there any plan ( for a future version of Apex) to increase the number of columns that can be used in report query using Apex/BI publisher?
    Thanks
    Kathryn

    Hi Kathryn
    I've had exactly the same problem as you've mentioned.
    Firstly, I've also found that I cannot select more than 119 columns from a view using a report query and have opted to the use the stored function to return the xml (same as you).
    After conducting a lot of searching and experimenting i've found that you can use the following escape characters in REPLACE in your stored function:-
    '£' can be replaced with CHR(194)||CHR(163)
    '%' can be replaced with '%25'
    '&' can be replaced with '%26amp;'
    I found the above escape characters from the xml file or by opening the xml file in Wordpad. Therefore I'm sure you'll be able to find the escape characters for the other symbols that you mentioned i.e. bullet points, dashes etc.
    I hope this has helped. Good luck and let me know if you get any developments with the limitation on the number of columns that can be selected from a report query as this would save a lot of trouble (as I'm sure you're aware).
    Thanks
    Natalie

  • IPhone won't play music imported from CDs or mp3s not downloaded from itunes

    When I first downloaded iOS 7, all of the music I had in my iTunes synched to my iPhone, but now new CDs I just imported and previous songs I imported from CDs won't synch (I've tried over wifi and usb).  When I click on songs on my phone that were from CDs, they look as if they are going to play and then skip immediately.  Mp3s I downloaded do the same thing.  Mind you, everything was working fine until updating to iOS 7.0.4.  I've been looking around the forums and have found that problems like this are relatively common and it's a shame Apple hasn't done anything to fix it.
    When my phone is hooked up and I click on "on this iPhone", it says the music from CDs and mp3s is on, but the titles come up gray with these litte circle things next to them
    Just checking now, I noticed some songs I bought from iTunes are doing the same thing.
    I tried manually synching, but when I click to drag the songs into my phone, the section that has music, movies, etc. just flashes and nothing happens.  I know something is wrong because I just put a ringtone onto my phone the same way.
    Oh, I also noticed that when my iPhone is synching and the steps go through at the top it skips steps 3, 4, and sometimes 5 (The Apple symbol pops up instead then goes straight to 6 and 7) so I know it's not recognizing the fact I put a bunch of new music in iTunes. Also, when I look at the bar at the bottom that shows how much memory is on my phone, this shows up:
    and that Documents and Data thing was not there before.
    Can someone please give me ideas on how I can stop this rediculousness without buying a new phone?

    Did you already try the suggestions mentioned in this article?

  • Importing from iMovie 06, lose capture dates

    When I import old iMovie 06 movies, the capture dates gets lost. Here is one of the original clips in iMovie 06:
    However, after importing in iMovie 11, the capture dates are lost.  I tried many variations, like import the iMovie 06 project, or cd to the *.iMovieProject directory and import the actual clips, etc.
    Now, good iMovie11 clips have the capture date imbedded in the file name (as in clip-2010-03-14 hh;mm;ss.dv).  However, the ones imported from iMovie 06 end up in iMovie 11 with simple names such as clip55.dv.  So it's not surprising I cannot see the capture dates in iMovie 11.
    So I looked inside the *.iMovieProject directory hoping to find the capture dates either in the file name or in a plist, but I couldn't (nothing in the plists below)
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Thumbnails.plist
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Timeline Movie Data.plist
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Timeline Movie.mov
    ... Nov  8  2009 Media/Clip55.dv
    etc
    Finally, I opened Clip55.dv in QuickTime and looked at MovieInspector, but I could not see any capture date (similar to exif in jpegs).
    So obviously I missed them. My question is where in the iMovie 06 project can I find them?   If accessible, I can write a script to fix the clips imported in iMovie11 by changing their names. I tried it manually, and it worked.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi - Couple of things.
    Click on the offending clip that you imported from iMovie in your FCP Bin and type Command + 9 to see the item properties. Either report those item properties, or if easier, take a screen shot of the item properties and post that.
    Then click any where on the timeline you are having trouble with and type Command + 0 (Zero) to see the sequence settings. Either report those settings or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings window and post that.
    In order for FCP to use the video without rendering, both the items properties of the source clip, and the sequence settings must match - and both must be within standard production parameters.
    Also, you can click on the source clip in the FCP Bin, then control-click on the clip and select Reveal in Finder from the drop down menu. Once that file is revealed, open it in Quicktime 7 and see if if plays correctly there.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I move a graphic-box in a document I imported from AppleWorks?

    I imported a book which I wrote in AppleWorks without problems into Pages '08. On one page of this book I had created a box, using the graphics tool, and moved it to the back so I could read the text inside it. It is now in the Pages '08 version of my book, but because of editing and additional writing which I've done, it appears on page 295, not 297 where it belongs. In AppleWorks I could simply select it and drag it into place. In Pages '08 I can't figure out how to select it. It's just there.
    Help desperately needed.

    Here is an AppleScript which, in a single call will
    • extract the embedded picture files
    • strip the annoying description of the 'background' pictures from the Index.xml file.
    So, we may open the Pages document, it will be free of the oddity and the picture files are available in the folder "importés_sétropmi" on the desktop.
    --(SCRIPT recupPictures]
    Save the script as an Application (Bundle Application if you want to use it on a MacIntel)
    Store it on the Desktop.
    Drag and drop the icon of a Pages document imported from AppleWorks on the script's icon.
    The script will move the embedded picture files in a folder named "importés_sétropmi" on the desktop.
    Then it will strip the Index.xml file from the block of datas describing the embedded pictures.

  • Issue with FDM Import Integration script

    Hi,
    I need to pull records from Oracle DB and load in FDM. have created Import Integration script for this. But,I reciev 'Data access error' when I execute the script.
    The line of error is Set rsAppend = DW.DataAccess.farsTable(strWorkTableName)+ .When I review log, I see 'strWorkTableName' is Invalid table name.
    ERROR:
    Code............................................. -2147467259
    Description...................................... ORA-00903: invalid table name
    Procedure........................................ clsDataAccess.farsTable
    Component........................................ upsWDataWindowDM
    Below is the script:*
    Dim cnSS 'ADODB.Connection
    Dim strSQL 'SQL string
    Dim rs 'Recordset
    Dim rsAppend 'tTB table append rs object
    'Initialize objects
    Set cnSS = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    Set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    Set rsAppend = DW.DataAccess.farsTable(strWorkTableName)
    'Connect to Oracle database
    cnss.open "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle.1;Data Source= FDMDB;Database= FDMDB;User ID= FDM;Password= xxxx"
    'Create query string
    strSQL = "Select ACCOUNT,ENTITY,AMOUNT FROM BALANCES"
    'Get data
    rs.Open strSQL, cnSS
    'Check for data
    If rs.bof And rs.eof Then
    RES.PlngActionType = 2
    RES.PstrActionValue = "No Records to load!"
    Exit Function
    End If
    'Loop through records and append to tTB table in location’s DB
    If Not rs.bof And Not rs.eof Then
    Do While Not rs.eof
    rsAppend.AddNew
    rsAppend.Fields("PartitionKey") = RES.PlngLocKey
    rsAppend.Fields("CatKey") = RES.PlngCatKey
    rsAppend.Fields("PeriodKey") = RES.PdtePerKey
    rsAppend.Fields("DataView") = "YTD"
    rsAppend.Fields("CalcAcctType") = 9
    rsAppend.Fields("Account") = rs.fields("Account").Value
    rsAppend.Fields("Entity") = rs.fields("Entity").Value
    rsAppend.Fields("Amount") = rs.fields("Amount").Value
    rsAppend.Update
    rs.movenext
    Loop
    End If
    'Records loaded
    RES.PlngActionType = 6
    RES.PstrActionValue = "Import successful!"
    'Assign Return value
    SQLIntegration = True
    End Function
    ===========================
    Also, Is the below string correct to connect to Oracle DB:
    cnss.open "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle.1;Data Source= FDMDB;Database= FDMDB;User ID= FDM;Password= xxxx"+
    Thanks in advance

    I am assuming you originally tried to run the script in workbench. for these type of scripts this is not possible as you get the error you highlighted.
    If it ran successfully (albeit without pulling any data,) then it might just be the SQL string that is incorrect.
    What i would try is:
    1. Add some error handling after the connection to the DB and display the error if it occurs
    2. display the SQL string you are using to make the Selection on, to ensure the format is ok.

  • Import From CSV File statement runs forever, no error, does not finish

    Hello,
    I am trying to import a CSV file in a JAVA program, with the following statement:
    IMPORT FROM CSV FILE '/debug/testdatabase/FILE.csv'
    INTO "JOSEPH"."TEST_TABLE"
    WITH COLUMN LIST IN FIRST ROW
    RECORD DELIMITED BY '\n'
    FIELD DELIMITED BY '\t' ERROR LOG '/debug/testdatabase/file.err'
    THREADS 10
    BATCH 10000
    I have two HANA instances on different machines A and B:
    Both machines run HANA version 1.00.74.00.389160 (NewDB100_REL), while the OS is
    SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.1 on machine A and
    SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.2 on machine B.
    The statement above runs fine on machine A and the rows are imported properly from JAVA as well as when executed from HANA Studio SQL console.
    If I copy the file to machine B and try the exact same statement with the same file, it does not finish (neither from JAVA nor from HANA Studio SQL console). There is no error either. It cannot be cancelled, only a HANA restart stops the statement. Also the sample file I use has only 2 rows, and memory does not seem to be a problem.
    I seem to have a similar problem to the one described here, but the answers there do not help me: http://scn.sap.com/thread/3396582 I specified the record delimiter, and I used a python script to check for any strange characters that are not supposed to be there, but didn't find any.
    If I copy the file to my windows PC and use the "File Menu -> Import -> SAP Hana Content -> Data from Local file" function, it imports the file correctly into B, but I need to be able to do it from JAVA.

    Machine B administration view:
    If you have any idea what might cause this behavior or where I can find more information on this problem please give me a hint.

    Hi Joseph,
    First from the pics, the revision of your SAP HANA instance is 73 instead of 74. Since I have no identical environment, I cannot test it for you. But can you try the simplest scenario? You can create a table with only one column table try to import a CSV file with only one row.
    Best regards,

  • Importing From Flat File with Dynamic Columns

    HI
    I am using ssis 2008,i have folder in which I have Four(4) “.txt” files each file will have 2 columns(ID, NAME). I loaded 4
    files in one destination, but today I receive one more “.txt” file here we have 3 columns (ID, NAME, JOB) how can I get a message new column will receive in source. And how can I create in extra column in my destination table dynamically …please help me

    Hi Sasidhar,
    You need a Script Task to read the names and number of columns in the first row of the flat file each time and store it in a variable, then create a staging table dynamically based on this variable and modify the destination table definition if one ore more
    new columns need to be added, and then use the staging table to load the destination table. I am afraid there is no available working script for your scenario, and you need some .NET coding experience to achieve your goal. Here is an example you can refer
    to:
