GB vs. Logic with respect to overall sound quality

Are there any technical differences between GB 9 and Logic with respect to the format that sound files are stored in, that would affect sound quality? I know that on the 'best' setting in GB, sound files are stored at 24 bits--is this the same in Logic? Also, is there any ability to dither from 24 bits to 16, in either GB or Logic?

Meatyard wrote:
Thanks, this is hugely helpful. Would be good to know what kind of dithering algorithm GB uses and if it's as good as Logic's.
I don’t believe GB uses the POW-r algorithm.
When POW-r first came out, it was hardware only - several thousand dollars for a dedicated POW-r box. Then it was available in software, and then other companies could license it.
Because it's licensed tech, Apple pays for and markets its inclusion in Logic, but I'm not sure what would motivate them to include it in GB. Apple has its own in-house dithering algorithms that wouldn't cost them anything to include, and I would imagine the number of GB users who know what POW-r or any kind of dithering is, or care about the different flavors, is exceedingly small.
Given that GB is included in every new Mac, including POW-r for each and every one would be a substantial license for something almost none of the users would know or care about.

  • Fiddling with volume slider and sound quality

In an attempt to bypass the infamous volume cap that plagues iPods sold in the EU, in the past I fiddled with the volume slider of many of my MP3 tracks, either directly or via third party applications (such as euPod). Afterwards I have changed my mind and reset the slider.
Later on, I have read a few sources claiming that the above procedure would cause a permanent modification of the MP3 file and/or affect sound quality.
I am somewhat puzzled by such claims... Am I really better off re-ripping all those tracks? Can anyone point me towards an undisputed “truth” on this matter?

The third one is a hardware issue: The earbuds jack
is very loose. Apparently, the iPod automatically
pauses playback when the headphones are disconnected.
Hence, I only have to wiggle the connector a bit and
the nano stops playing. This really would be annoying
if I were to go jogging with my iPod ...
hmmm.. that happens to my ipod too and i only got it for christmas. so i was a bit gentle with it.so hence it comes out very easily.
but whilst reading all the replys i decided to be harsher to my ipod and just push my earbuds in all the way..it worked!! that might be the same for u or i might have just been a bit too forgetfull and thought that my ipod was delicate coz its like.. so preety:)
lol im in love with my ipod ..
dont know if this helps..hope it does..

  • Recording LPs with smart recorder and sound quality off.....

    Hi,
I have X-Fi Extreme music card on my PC and trying to record some LPs with SmartRecorder. These are classical LPs and I find that when played back, the orchestra (violins, choir, etc) sound like this was recorded in a tin can. Any ideas why this would be? I connected all my cables accordingly and?am still?getting this problem.

Which type of connection are you using there?
Do you have preamp stage w/ RIAA there before soundcard (you have connected the PC into your stereo system just the way
like you connect a casette recorder or you have connected your turntable w/ RIAA preamp directly into soundcard) or
have you connected your turntable (w/o RIAA + preamp) directly into soundcard?
If you're using the latter method, you need to have EQ w/ RIAA compensation added into signal (you need some ASIO/VST
capable recording software which allows you add FXs into signal (Hermann Seib's VSTHost) and an EQ capable for
    compensation curve +20dB (20Hz) - -20 dB (20 kHz) (ddmf:IIEQ). It's possible that you
can't get levels set high enough w/o adding some gain plug-in into signal path. You can use Sonalksis FreeG VST (stereo)
for this (in VSTHost, place (route) the FreeG either after or before the EQ (try which works better for you)).
Also, check if the recording source is set correctly (w/ "What U Hear" option you get all added effects added
into signal (EAX, CMSS) so it's best to set input as Line-In) and turn all effects OFF.
If you record into lossy format as mp3 or wma, check that the bitrate is set high enough (I suggest you use bitrates
256 - 320). Also, do not use addons like Chrystalizer, etc..

  • Improve/extend equalizer and add 3D sound. Sound quality really poor.

I've been using the 2g nano for a while now and i must say the audio quality is really poor if compared with my 3 year old iRiver (which only has 256mb memory). Lots of people keep saying how great the sound quality is but i believe people saysing that just dont know any better. For those who do hear the difference the only satisfaction is the storage capacity.
The Equalizer is a big shock. People (even Apple fans) say its best to leave it off for improvement. Why ? because turned on the music gets heavily distorted. People even blame their earbuds. So people go off and buy a €40 earbud just for that extra bit of improvement which the nano should already provide with the nano itself.
So this is what should be done :
    - improve overall sound quality
    - add custom equalizer
    - add Xtreme 3D sound (= is a really big ++ iRiver users understand)

  • Sound quality of the various generations of iPods

Hi, I wondered if anyone has any opinions about the overall sound quality of the various generations of iPods.
    Thanks, Chris
    iMac G5 2.1   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    iMac G5 2.1   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I can only speak for myself, I have not used 1st, 2nd,6th Generation and new Nano of iPods, but the differential of sound quality among 3rdG, mini and Nano are not noticeable. I read an article in Hong Kong (I may no agree with), indicating that iPod Shuffle's sound quality is not as good as other iPod models, but iPod Shuffle's sound qualtiy is still above other MP3 players.
Having said that, believe your ears.

  • Sound Quality not as good as ipod

I was hoping someone could help me with this. The sound quality coming directly from my powerbook to my JBL creatue speakers is crackly. I thought that it was just the speakers, however, when I plug my ipod directly to the speakers the sound quality is excellent. Is there a problem with the headphone jack that I plug the speakers into or is it somehow an iTunes issue? Any help would be great!
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Try pluging your iPods headphones into the port. If there is something wrong with the port, you should hear the same crackly sound. I seriously doubt it's an issue with iTunes though, I use Sony external speakers and the audio quality is crystal clear.

    Hi Gurus,
    I am an Abaper.
I have a requirement to create outbound delivery with respect to sales order.
Currently I have the purchase order details.
My coordinator has given me a logic.
From the Purchase order, we have to get the Purchase requisition.
From Purchase requisition, we have to get the sales order.
From the sales order, we have to create the outbound delivery.
Please explain me how to creaet the outbound delivery with respect to sales order.
Also, how to get the PR from PO and SO from PR.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi balaji,
I will add the abap code since you are a ABAPER.
    1. To get the Pur. Req. from PO
Note that PO_NO and PO_LINE_ITEM are variables.
           Select VEBLN VBELP  into (EBKN-VBELN,EBKN-VBELP)
from EKPO inner join  EBKN on EKPOBANFN = EBKNBANFN
           where EKPOEBELN = PO_NO and EKPOEBELP = PO_LINE_ITEM
    2. And using VL01N you can create the relevant outbound delivery. Use above sales order for this. And record a BDC and write the code.
    Hope this will useful

  • Poor Sound Quality with iTunes 8

I just installed iTunes 8, and all of the songs in my Library play with poor sound quality regardless of the view I have open. The sound is really muffled, but the voices and higher frequencies sound tinny and shaky. I tried playing with the Equalizer and Sound Enhancer settings, but was not able to fix the problem.
What can I do to get the iTunes 7 sound back?

I, too, am experiencing a significant decline in the sound quality of recordings in my collection. The recordings sound very muffled on the low, bass end of the sound spectrum, and the treble is significantly diminished. This decline in sound quality occurred immediately after I upgraded to iTunes 8. The sound quality in iTunes 7 was fine, and overall better.
It appears that my iTunes 8 attempts to improve the playback sound quality of songs with 128 kbps bit rates, as these songs in my collection do seem to actually sound better. However, most of my collection are recordings imported at the higher sound quality standard of 320 kbps from CDs that I purchased, and these recordings all sound poor since I've installed iTunes 8.

  • Logic with a Saphire focusrite or Liquid Mix?

Anyone using logic with the focusrite Liquid Mix or saffire?
If so can you guys post some a and b mp3 demos
    cheers

    ThorTheGodOfBlunder wrote:
Yes I have experience with both. Use Saffire Pro 10 with my MBP and never had any problems with it very happy with it. Sold the Liquid Mix. If you want to use an external harddrive and a firewire interface you'll run out of firewire busses even with expresscard adapter and the saffire really doesnt like to be daisychained. And when I had the Liquid Mix, never really used is as a control surface didnt really find it better over using a mouse. And even though its takes processing load of the cpu it still caused other problems and made the system less stable. This was on Logic 8 and the drivers they had for it about 2 years ago though so dont know if its better now.
But did you like the sound of the liquid mix's DSP plug ins or not?, i am not interesting in using it as a surface board, i doubt that is what people buy it for, the built on DSP is what i am curious about,
As for the Saffire products i know the older models like the Pro 10 and Pro 26 i/os do not have any on board DSP processing like the liquid mix but Focusrite claims that the quality is alike their Green Channels, hows do or did they sound to you guys?

  • Anyone Using PC and Logic with hypersonic ?

by this time i should be on mac, yeah i know but my PC still works and i can still make music
but I was wondering if hpersonic supports multiple output on mac and how well does it run
because i'm thiking of upgrading to a mac and also thinking of getting hypersonic 2 upgrade
does it work with logic 7?
is there something similar to hypersonic or better?
hypersonic happens to be the backbone of all my songs
    thanks

    its pretty simple
there is few ways of doing this
one is the analog way :
1: connect a midi output from the mac to a midi input to the PC
2: i assume you have a pro interfaces in both mac and PC, so connect 2 or 4 or 6 channels output of the PC to the mac's audio input
3: Launch both logic and insert an instrument of your choice in any of the instrument channels ( EXS24 OR HYPERSONIC ) then select a midi channel in logic pro 7
4: Make sure what ever channel you have selected is the same channel in logic 5.5 on PC ( example, midi channel one will connect to instrument 1 with the input set to midi ch 1 )
if the input on instrument 1 is set to midi to then it wont receive the info from Midi channel 1's output of the mac unless you choose midi channel 2 just like any rewire
5: set the Instrument 1's output to what ever you want the mac to receive from
so if you set the output to 3-4 then you need to select an audio track and set the input to 3-4 to receive the lines just like logic will receive the channel outputs of reason when its been rewired
the good thing about this is you can have stereo inputs for every channels
6: start playing any key on the midi channel 1 on the Logic 7 (Mac) and it'll control the PC logic with the audio output coming in input 3-4 on any of the audio tracks you select in logic
good thing about this is you insert as much powerful plug-ins as wont because they are not in play mode, the only thing thats been triggered is the sounds from the plug-ins so therefore it does eat as much CPU as having them instrument on logic 7 on the same mac or having reason on the same computer
    IMPORTANT NOTE
when bouncing, don't bounce it as off-line because its just having an external sound module, bounce it in realtime
and you change the songs to another songs, save the session on Logic 7 and logic 5.5 just like how you'll do on reason and logic 7
    two is digital way :
its the same as the analog ways except the audio out put from the PC to the Mac is connect via ( SPDF )
i hope that sounds a bit simple but if you need more info i'll be glad to help you on that

    Hi Eriksimon,
    Firstly, thanks for your message.
What I meant by "hi pass mid pass shrinking in" is EXACTLY what you menat, I got a heavy bass and muffed high and mid content. Apologised for my poor English.
I haven't checked the setting of the playback device yet but instead I tested it with some professional produced tracks. I know the sound tends to vary a little bit when playing from computer and CD player such as the CDJ 900 that I am using. The differences were not as significant as my own track. They tend to get a rather good balance. My track is well balanced and mixed (I guess) in Logic but it turns out completely different when using the CD player.
I bounced my work to MP3 with highest BIte Rate.

  • Apogee Duet/ Logic 8 - Lose Right Channel Sound When Recording

Hi all. Using Logic Pro 8.0 on an Intel iMac, OS 10.11, with 2 Seagate Ext. FW Drives with an Apogee Duet.
Here's the problem that's recently developed and reoccurring more frequently when recording into Logic:
I plug guitar or a mic into channel 1 of the Duet ( have double checked everything connection-wise - all good)
I hear the signal from the input in both ears... everything fine so far.
I record or rehearse and all is well.
I stop the playback and then I only hear/monitor my current instrument or mic in one ear (usually the left - the right channel disappears. This has nothing to do with the headphone or speaker connections as all pre-recorded tracks are still coming out in stereo (both ears).
Sometimes if I just press play and stop, the missing side will reappear, but not always.
If I was just recording into channel 1 of the Duet and I encounter the problem, I physically unplug the source and put it into channel 2 and re-arm the input and/or the record and then I have 2 sides again... strange.
As well, when I use a Logic session template under this same setup, I can hear my guitar in both ears , but the moment I mute an effect in the channel strip I'm playing through... boom.... one ear/side is gone. I can only get it back by unmuting the effect or going through the above mentioned unplugging routine.
To sum up, I should be able to simply monitor my guitar or mic input in both ears (stereo) without it disappearing randomly. I know a guitar/mic is mono but you should be able to have it coming out both sides. It always worked until the Duet started acting up.
Lately, I also have been hearing strange artifacts and phasing when monitoring a LIVE source back through the Duet... this is intermittent but becoming more frequent. Previously recorded tracks are sounding ok.
Any tips or similar experiences? I'll give Apogee a buzz and see what they can offer.
    Thanks all.
    Dave

    Hi,
Thanks for offering your tip... much appreciated. When setting Mono versus Stereo, are you referring to the little "circle" icons at the bottom of the channel strip, next to the "I" (input monitoring)?
I did have it set to mono, with a single meter in the mixer window channel strip and still had the right channel disappearing suddenly problem. Speaking of the mono/stereo circle icons, why is it that some channel strips show these icons but others don't? I have two guitar tracks that both play back fine, but one allows access to the mono/stereo select icon but the other doesn't display it. They're both identical in every other way.
My feeling is that this could be a Duet problem because of the thin phasey ring modulation sound and level changes that will appear suddenly while monitoring a clean input source moments after everything was just fine.
Maybe this is because I'm still on 8.0 and Tiger? I'm in the middle of a project and can't risk update problems right now. What do think about the latest Logic with Leopard....safe to do and still have access to previous Logic 8.0 session files?
    Thanks for your kind advice!
    Cheers,
    Dave

  • How to delete the row in table control with respect to one field in module pool programming?

    Hi,
Can I know the way to delete the row in table control with respect to one field in module pool programming
    Regards
    Darshan MS

    HI,
I want to delete the row after the display of table control. I have created push button as delete row. If I click on this push button, the selected row should get deleted.
    I have written this code,
    module USER_COMMAND_9000 input.
    DATA OK_CODE TYPE SY-UCOMM.
    OK_CODE = SY-UCOMM.
    CASE OK_CODE.
         WHEN 'DELETE'.
            LOOP AT lt_source INTO ls_source WHERE mark = 'X'.
                APPEND LS_SOURCE TO LT_RESTORE.
                DELETE TABLE LT_SOURCE FROM LS_SOURCE.
                SOURCE-LINES = SOURCE-LINES - 1.
            ENDLOOP.
But I'm unable to delete the selected rows, It is getting deleted the last rows eventhough I select the other row.
So I thought of doing with respect to the field.
