GD85 and New Intel SATA drivers

Intel updated thier SATA drivers for RAID so that TRIM will work correctly.
Does one  of you experts know if the new Intel drivers are included in BIOS update
V1.3 07/12/2010??
Pat

Guys, I misspoke, I am not talking about the BIOS, I am talking about the Intel SATARaid drivers listed on the download website with a date of 01 2010.  These are the  Rapid Storage Technology drivers.  I know that Intel released a new  Rapid Storage Technology driver to solve a problem with TRIM when the Intel SATARAID technology is used in a RAID
mode.  Basically TRIM wont work on a RAID array because of a problem in the Intel driver.
I am wondering is the 01-10 version on the download site includes the new fix.
If it doesnt can I use the Intel driver from the Intel website

  • Printing problems with HP laserJet 1320 and new Intel iMac

My new Intel iMac won't print to my HP 1320 from Eudora or from web browsers. The applications "quit unexpectedly". From Safari, nothing happens.
I can print PDF documents and Office documents with no problems. The Intel is connected to a router via Airport. The printer is connected to the router via Ethernet. My old G4 iMac prints fine (connected to router via Ethernet) as does my G4 laptop (connected via Airport).

A post from another threat that might help.

    Solution!!!
Just spent 90 minutes with some nice folks in level 1 and level 2 support.
Problem seems to be that I used migration utility to import the soul of my old machine into the new machine. When you do that, you bring along the old print system (PPC vs Intel).
I had upgraded to 10.4.5 after the migration and assumed that it would correct any problem like that, but it had not.
After a great deal of trial and error, the solution was to go to move disk/library/printers to the desktop and restart the system
Then use the the install disk 1 that came with the iMac and use the OPTIONAL INSTALLS package to reinstall the printer drivers.
    Worked like a champ.
Suspect similar problem might happen for any of you with I/O drivers.

  • Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD and Soundtrack Pro 1.0.2 and new Intel iMac

I have the both FCP and Soundtrack Pro versions listed above. I'm thinking about picking up a new Intel iMac. Will I have to pay $199 or $99 to upgrade to FCP Studio. I just purchased Soundtrack Pro recently, if I could upgrade for just $99 and get Shake and iDVD that would be a deal...probably still a deal for $199.
I also use CS2, seems Adobe is a little confusing to me. Will I have to pay to get CS2 native for the Intel iMac? Any idea on cost and timeliness.
Separately, how will FCP run on a 20" Intel iMac once upgraded to Universal version, which I'll have to do, since it won't run under Rosetta? I currently only do Mini DV but should I plan on getting the extra video memory now, planning on eventually going into the HD video realm?
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments...thinking about getting the Intel iMac via CompUSA with their interest free deals tomorrow.

well, same situation here, I was about to order a Macbook Pro but then decided to saty with our beloved G platform. the reason is that it will take some time for our Pro Apps to become fully /natively compatible with Intel and I just can't wait that much.
    as for your question about using an iMac with FCP, the answer would be a;
"Yes" if you're going to work with DV only footage (using an external HD for your captured media is a must). and a
"No" if you plan to work with HD material in the future. there you've got no choice but a PowerMac G5 with a fast Graphic Card and a special SD/HD card or box to capture the footage.
résumé: if you're a serious FCP user, go for something expandible, go for a Powermac.

  • Can FCP5 and new Intel version of Avid MC exist on same boot drive?

I had heard reports last fall that FCP 5 and Avid Media Composer & Avid Express Pro had compatibility issues if you put them on the same boot drive, so some were recommending a drive partition to separate the softwares to solve the problem.
Being that the new Intel version of Avid MC has been out for a few weeks, I'm not sure anyone will be able to speak to this and whether it can live comfortably on the same boot drive as FCP 5. But perhaps you can chime in on what you have heard about the latest compatibility issues...FCP 5 vs. Avid MC & Avid Express Pro.
If some progress has been made, perhaps I would not have to do a partition.
    Many thanks,
    John

I'm running Avid MC 2.7 and FCP 5.1 on the same boot drive and have been doing so (with Avid Xpress before) for years with no problems. You have to keep your OS and Quicktime in check as Avid is always behind in their support. There may be the occasional Avid codec that doesn't show up due to a conflict but nothing has ever knocked the system down. But if you want 100% certainty then a separate boot drive isn't a bad idea. If you do this then read the Avid Mac cheatsheet for help with Avid and it's supported versions.

  • Fiery 250 driver and new Intel Mac

I recently installed a new Intel iMac in my office and hooked it up to our Xerox printer via our Fiery 250 RIP. Bad news--the driver does not work with the Intel Mac. I had a Xerox tech come and try to troubleshoot it for a few hours, went under the hood to try and resolve the issue...nothing. Next step is he is going to have to contact Fiery. Anyone else have any experience with an Intel Mac and getting the driver to work on Fiery? Very inconvenient.

  • Old Apple xserve Raid 1.24 and New Intel Xserve

    Guys
Quick question - i currently have an Apple G5 xserve setup with an apple xserve raid {1.24} as a file sharing server in my studio
ideally i am looking to get my xserve upgraded to the new intel version but would like to know if the old xserve raid would still be compatible with the new xserve?
any info would be super appreciated!

Yes - it will work just fine. The only issue is that you'll need a new Fiber channel card for the Intel XServe since it only supports PCIe cards, not PCI-X used by the previous XServes.

  • New Intel HD4400 drivers for Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro?

Intel has new drivers for the HD4400 graphics chipset that's supposed to fix a bunch of issues and that's downloadable from Intel's website. Intel's update utility identifies the drivers as compatible with Yoga 2 Pro, but when attempting to install the installer aborts itself and tells the user to acquire the drivers from the "manufacturer", i.e. Lenovo.
When I check on the Lenovo site, however, there are only drivers dated October 2013.
In graphics driver age that's ancient.
So when is Lenovo allowing its Yoga 2 Pro users to update their HD4400 drivers, which in Oct 2013 were rather broken?
I'm talking about inadequate resolution scaling for the Yoga 2 Pro's high-res screen in some games, for instance, which is a pretty big issue to left unfixed. Meanwhile the Intel Update Manager that came with the Yoga 2 Pro's software bundle cannot, as of May 2014, even connect itself to the net to check for updates for whatever reason.

  • New intel printer drivers from epson

I bought an intel imac and an epson R1800 printer. I did not install the bundled software but downloaded and installed epson's latest update for the intel mac. This was a printer driver install. A "Print CD" application is included in the bundled software which was not installed. I can't find it in the new download. Can I install just the "Print CD" app? Will Rosetta support this app?
Prior to installing any software for the R1800, I checked out epson's site and read an alert about the bundled software that came with the printer. So I installed the update. I want my cd print app.

Life is good! I got a reply from Susan R, Epson tech and she said download the Print CD app and Rosetta will do it. Well I installed the software and it worked. I got an answer sooner than I expected and thanks Susan for helping me. Some people walk around with a tune in their heads, me I walked around and kept bumping into Rosetta, telling myself it just gotta work.

  • Old ipod mini and new (intel) imac

    Hi folks,
I have a small problem and I don't know how to solve it.
Let me preface by saying that I have done nothing yet, only read and not really found what I'm looking for - I hope someone can help.
I have a new imac. I also have 2 old ipods (a mini, and a nano). Both pods have music on them that I would like to keep, but the computers and so the itunes which they used are no longer available.
I would like to have the music on both pods transfered to the new imac's itunes (without losing the music on the new itunes) and then use both the pods in conjunction with the new imac and its itunes.
The new imac has never had an ipod connected to it, so it is an ipod 'virgin' if you will - not sure that makes any difference, just for info. The 2 ipods, as I said, have both been used on other computers, which are now no longer available.
I hope someone can help, if any more info is needed I'll do my best to supply it... bit of a noob when it comes to these things...
    Thanks again,
    Amedeo

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would , relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • New promise sata drivers 865 875

    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_ten.php?UID=161

    Anyone else got this problem?

  • Promise SATA or Intel SATA

has anyone actually got down to the nitty gritty of testing the difference between the Promise 376/378 SATA/RAID Controller and the Intel SATA/RAID controller.
first let me start by saying i have the older Maxtor 160gig SATA drives, both have the oder chipset on them, the one that the sticky post says is a "buggy" chipset.
well i can confirm that, from the drives being noisy, to whats seems to be slow performance, to the fact that every week the raid is failing, and i have to rebuild or reconfirm the raid, to the drives just failing when the system boots.
whats odd is that every single diagnostics i have run, and its not just the maxtor utility. ive tried several others, all say the drives are independantly good and that the RAID0 STRIPE is good.
but one of the drives shows FAILED in the Intel SATA Status screen. but windows loads fine and everything seems to be ok.
but today i booted up and chkdsk ran for no reason and i had tons of file errors.
    so im tired of it,
im now trying the primise SATA controller. and if they continue to fail,,, i am RMA'ing them with maxtor. screw it i cant afford to have the drives failing every week and sometimes constantly everyday.
so,,, for ME, Promise is the leader in SATA and RAID, RAID to me has always been Lead by Seagate, but i havent seen any of their SATA controller, but i have had GREAT luck with other promise IDE controllers ive used.
has anyone actually tested the performance,. stability and such of the promise 376-378 controller ?
is it better than the Intel SATA controller?  more stable ? faster ?

    8kb sectors huh ?
how you setting up the intel raid  ?
my 865PE neo2 fis2r wont allow you to change the size. are you going pack with partition magic or something and changing it?
or are you just partitioning a seperate partition like i do for all your games and telling windows to use a different sector size.
and to kind lay out a bit of the graphics frame rate increase your claiming is from the larger sector size.
graphics lag isnt going to increase THAT much , simply because of one HUGE reason.
constant frame rates are measured by the graphics that are being rendered, those graphics being rendered are in video ram, system ram, and those about to be rendered or a section of the map about to be loaded is in the page file and possibly in a temp file in the game dir.
thats a pretty large increase to be saying simply sector size did it,,, ive been gaming for quite a long time, and sure disk access time effects loading but it will ONLY effect game frame rates when your dealing with a game that is CONSTANTLY loading sounds levels and sections of a map, ie seamless loading.
Rainbow six ravenshield does not do this, it loads pretty much everything it needs into your ram, and video ram. with minimal access to your hard drive. changing to 8kb size isnt going to effect it the way your talking about, not a 20 frames per second increase.
now BF 1942,, it plays a bit differently, because of the size of it levels and the fact that there can be a huge amount of things going onscreen, yes it tends to access the disk alot, so a different or more efficient disk sectoring could infact increase performance.
im pretty sure your performance is coming from some place else.
but because im a sucker for performance, im gunna give this a try, i have a partition i just partitioned and havent loaded yet, im gunna reformat with a 8kb setting and load up a game, one that i know how it performs, and ill report back with what i find out..
