GDM in english instead of french ?

Hello.
Since last initscripts update, my GDM is in english instead of being in french.
Adding a /etc/locale.conf file with :
LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=C
leaves me with an english gdm, an english gnome and no possibility to switch back to french.
Any idea ? Known issue ?

happens to me to, just with hebrew:
[assaf@laptop ~]$ locale
LANG=he_IL.utf8
LC_CTYPE="he_IL.utf8"
LC_NUMERIC="he_IL.utf8"
LC_TIME="he_IL.utf8"
LC_COLLATE="he_IL.utf8"
LC_MONETARY="he_IL.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="he_IL.utf8"
LC_PAPER="he_IL.utf8"
LC_NAME="he_IL.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="he_IL.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="he_IL.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="he_IL.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="he_IL.utf8"
LC_ALL=
[assaf@laptop ~]$ locale -a
C
en_US
en_US.iso88591
en_US.utf8
hebrew
he_IL
he_IL.iso88598
he_IL.utf8
POSIX
now I'm using initscripts 2011.11.1-1, upgraded from 2011.10.2-1

  • HT204411 iTunes store - I live in the German speaking part of Switzerland (and have a credit card address here too) but want to watch films in English, Italian, or French. Why are films not available in these other languages ?

    Hello, I live in the German speaking part of Switzerland (and have a credit card address here too) but want to watch films in English, Italian, or French. Why are films not available in these other languages ? Unless I am mistaken, iTunes Switzerland is far from Swiss and does not encourage its people to watch films in the local languages of its country (at least French and Italian would be good too...). Can anyone help ? Do I have to move to Geneva to watch a non French film in French or Lugano to watch a non Italian film in Italian or simply buy a DVD to get round it?

    I have the same problem. I want to watch any movies in French (in the original, or subtitled and/or dubbed). But I cannot seem to find any on iTunes. Does iTunes offer any content in other countries (I live overseas) in the languages of those countries?

    Hello! I used QuickTime for watch any videos on OS X Mountain Lion, but now, I'm passed to OS X Mavericks and QuickTime, when I open an .avi file, convert this in a .mov file. I'm sorry for my English, I'm French and I don't know speak English very well, but what can I do for QuickTime opens on .avi and doesn't convert to .mov?

    HI GalaxieMusique,
    I'm french too, but I'm going to write this post in english so that everyone may understand it
    I have the same problem in Mavericks, but I'd say, more important, with QuickLook.
    Indeed Quicklook can't read avi movies anymore. Actually it always been the case, but with Perian we were able to fix it. The problem is that Perian is no longer available for Mac OS 10.9....
    I'd assume that our only hope is Apple themselves... It would be nice from Apple to creat an add-on for quicklook to be able to preview the avi movies.
    In regards with quicktime, you can download QuickTime 7 here:
    http://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Multimedia/lecteurs_video_dvd/fiches/10 0.html
    and ask all the .avi movies to be played by QuickTime 7 and not QuickTime X (included into Mac OS).
    Sorry for the english, we french people can make mistakes sometimes
    If anyone has a solution for QuickLook, please do not hesitate. This topic is becoming a real mess....

  • Workflow for converting english titles to french in livetype and motion

    Hi everyone,
    I am about to embark on a french version of a 20 minute video and I'm looking for some advice.
    In the english version, I created titles in both motion and livetype. I'm still a bit of a novice with these programs so I admit that I relied on Final Cut Pro to further manipulate the titles in terms of sizing and placement with a touch a slow motion to get the timing right. It was exciting to discover that any text changes in these programs would automatically update in the timeline in Final Cut Pro as long as I didn't change the file name.
    So, that got me thinking.... I'd like to change the english titles to a french version and take advantage of the automatic updating in FCP. But how do I protect my english master?
    My backup plan is to create new file names for the french titles and try the " copy content" approach but I have some reservations.
    As always, I look forward to your feedback.
    Cheers and Happy Holidays.
    Chris

    Hi Everyone,
    I want to provide an update on my progress for those who might be interested.
    I have some 50 english titles in this project, some motion and some livetype and some boris.
    To prepare for the french version, I did a "save project as" to create a french version of the project as suggested. Then, I did a "save as" on each title file, adding "french" to each one and saving the new version in a new file folder for my french stuff.
    I've made a duplicate of my english master timeline and here's where it gets interesting.
    I'm finding that if I "right click" on the title in the timeline to open it in the Editor to make changes, it opens the original english title, thus putting my english version in jeopardy! I'm guessing because I simply made a copy of the english version.
    Here's my plan of action... Control Click each title in the french version timeline and use reconnect media to connect the title to the new version that I've saved in my french stuff file folder. Change the english text to french.. place in oven to bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes, let stand for 2 and voila - one french version ready for voice over.
    Can someone let me know if I'm on the right track?
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • I am trilingual how can I use pad in English spanish AND french?

    Bought my I pad in México however I am trilingual, and constantly write in English, Spanish and French.
    i don't want a predetermined language need accents for french

    Go to Settings > General > International > Keyboards > check those you want to use.
    Then when a keyboard comes up there will be a globe symbol next to the space bar, tap that to cycle through the keyboards to the one you want...that also links the appropriate dictionary.

  • Need to choose english instead of spanish to download adobe pro xl

    I want to download adobe pro xl but it is linked in the spanish/mac version when i need english mac how do i switch from spanish to english before I download?  need to choose english instead of spanish to download adobe pro xl

    Hi gregk31221321,
    You can try the direct download link for Adobe Acrobat Pro XI  Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | DC, XI, X
    Once you will serialize the Acrobat Pro XI using your Adobe ID or Serial number you will get both the languages (Spanish as well as English by default).
    You can choose to work with any of them.
    If you still experience any issue, please let us know. We will be more than happy to assist you.
    Regards,

  • Si it possible to open an English  catalog un French version of Lightroom?

    I Want to open the Martin Evening catalog (in English) in my french version of Lightroom...Is it possible?

    Sure, no problem.

  • English keyboard instead of french !

    When I enter a caption in LR (french version), "a" is entered instead of "q" and "q" instead of "a".
    On english keyboard, first letter is "q" on first raw and "a" in second raw.
    On french one, first letter is "a" on first raw and "q" in second raw.
    So, it seems that LR works as if I had an english keyboard.
    Of course, others softwares (Word, Photoshop...) dont make this mistake...
    Does anybody knows what I am doing wrong ?

    Sorry I can't be more precise but I'm sitting on a German PC and it took me ages to find it the first time round. However, in XP there are 2 ways to change the layout of your keyboard. The first (and only if you have in the Taskbar (bottom right) a small icon indicating which language your keyboard currently is set to. By right clicking on this you can bring up a menu in which you can add another language. I regularly switch between a German and English keyboard and have set a keyboard shortcut (Alt + Shift) to do this. You can also set your own preference within the menu. If the current keyboard setting is not present in the Taskbar than I'm afraid you'll have to go diving in the Help file - changing keyboard - or something like that. Sorry I can't be more helpful at this time - it is there, it is an option, you'll just have to find it.

  • How do I get AW to open in English v.6...instead of French v.6?

    I use AppleWorks for all of my word processing. I compose documents in English, French, and Norweign (all three language applications are on my computer.) Recently I received an attachment that was written in English (Word), and when I attempted to open the file the French version of AppleWorks opened displaying the contents in French. Since then all of my AppleWorks documents are opening in the French version.
    This is the case whether I am double clicking the file in the documents folder or opening from the File>Open selection in AppleWorks.
    I have investigated the preferences in Mail and AppleWorks (all three versions) and find no settings to make the English version the default for opening my documents.
    Is there someway to correct this without removing the install of French and Norweign versions of 6.v...?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I expect this may have to await a reply from Yvan, who has multiple versions of AppleWorks installed, and switches languages fairly regularly.
    Meantime, here's a few questions that may help track down and solve the problem:
    What happens if you create and save a new English language AppleWorks document (in your English version of AppleWorks)?
    What happens then if (without closing the English file), you use File>Open (in AppleWorks) to open one of the files that's giving you trouble?
    When you say "the data appears in French," what do you mean?
    When you say "the application reverts to French," what do you mean?
    Here are three other things to try:
    1.
    This is one I just tried, and it did seem to cure a similar issue on my machine where I have both English language versions installed, and double-clicking opens files using the 'wrong' one.
    Reset the Open With... setting in Get Info. In the Finder, Click on one of the errant files, then press command-I to Get info. In the Info window, go to the Open With section and, in the popup menu, select Choose... You'll get a dialogue open to the Applications folder. In the folder, select the version of AppleWorks you want to open this file, then click Add. the dialogue window will close, and you'll be back at the Info window. To set the selected AppleWorks version as the default one to open files of this type, click Change all before closing the Info window.
    2.
    As noted, this one is a general trouble shooting step. Keep it around, even if you don't use it this time.
    General problems with AppleWorks (or any application) can often be cured by deleting the preferences files, which are susceptible to corruption. AppleWorks will create new (clean) versions the next time you run it. You’ll find details in Peggy’s User Tips post, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly.
    3.
    This one looks more drastic than it is, provided you don't empty the trash.
    Drag the two non-English AppleWorks 6 folders to the Trash (but don't empty the Trash). Items that are in the trash won't be opened or launched by the OS, so this should force the only version left in the Applications folder (your English version) to launch on double-clicking an AppleWorks file. It may also reset the OS's pointers to default to the English version even after you drag the other two out of the Trash and back to the Applications folder, but I haven't checked that.

  • I have a MacBook Pro and have just switched from Windows, I would like to know if it is possible to download somehow my Collins Talking English and talking French Help please

    I have a MacBook Pro opperating on Mavericks, Apple is all new to me having switched over from Windows, my question is, I have been unable to download my two COLLINS talking English and French, both worked well on Windows but will not  download on my MacBook, is there a method or way to download,  help please

    I don't know these programs myself, but I suspect they are not written for Mac (if they are, it will say so on the packaging somewhere).  If they are Windows only, then your only alternatives are as follows:
    You can use Boot Camp which comes with your Mac to install a copy of Windows on your Mac so that you can boot into windows and run this software via Windows.  This, of course, requires you to have a copy of Windows that you can install on the Mac. Copies of versions of Windows can be purchased via e-bay etc.
    Alternatively, see if you can find similar software that is Mac compatible (this may be a cheaper option) on Amazon or other sites.

    FYI  ..
    Your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.
    "Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."
    From here >  The Complete Guide to Using the iTunes Store | iLounge Article
    Billing policy is the same for both the iTunes and Mac App Stores.

  • Office 2010 Context menu displaying English even though French MUI selected

    Office 2010 32-bit on Windows 7 64-bit OS
    When right-clicking on an Office document from Explorer with the French Language Pack selected via Regional Settings, part of the menu is displayed in English as follows:
    This only occurs for extensions associated to Office 2010 i.e. right-clicking on a txt file displays all French items.
    Ideas as why this is happening?

    Hi,
    It seems the issue is more related to the language version of operation system. The Office MUI packs are used to change the Display and Help language when you use Office programs. They wouldn’t be used to change the context menu in Windows Explorer. I would
    suggest you test installing the Office suite on a French version system.

  • Can I have itunes in english and in french?

    What I really want is to watch my favourite movies in french, is there a way to do this without downloading itunes french. If I do have to, how do I do it and will my english itunes account stay the same?

    kaykay_2468 wrote:

    There is no 'iTunes french".
    The is only one version of iTunes and the languge used in the application is the language your OS is set to. If your OS is set to French, the menus and such will be in French.
    The language used by the iTunes store is the language of the country you are using, ie. if you are logged into the iTunes France, the language will be French.
    In order to use a specific country iTunes store (to get videos in that language) you must have a CC from that country with a billing address in that country and be physically present in that country.
