GDM Log-in screen background image

When trying to follow the wiki for changing the background of GDM before logon, it's asking to do this:
Then, create the necessary configuration file: wrote:touch /etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/01-background
However, the folder /etc/dconf doesn't exist on my system, although dconf is installed.
When searching the forums I've found this and this. But they also talk about the /etc/dconf folder..
I'm probably missing something obvious here, can someone point it out to me?
Thank you for your help.

Thank you loafer, it's now clear to me. I found also extra info here: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/how-to-c … -lock.html that confirms that  I have to replace the following image:
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/noise-texture.png
Question, as mentioned in the previous thread, how does the wiki gets updated? Is this something we need to do or do we need to report this somewhere?
Thanks again for your help.

  • Website with Full Screen Background Images

    I'm trying to create a website with full screen background images (or  possibly, a video) that will crop to the browser window. It's also  important that the image be center-justified. The Die Antwoord site does  pretty much what I'm trying to accomplish. I'd also like to know how  they can use such high resolution images. If I try to use a high res  image, the file size is enormous. Another site that uses similar  technology only with a video is the TV on the Radio site.
    I  am fairly new to Flash so please forgive me if this is a rudimentary question.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for your reply.
    What I'm concerned about is the crispness of my full-page images. Am I right in assuming with a PDF folio, static images won't be as crisp? Is there a way to maintain its sharpness?

  • Responsive Full Screen Background image - How?

    Hi,
    I would be very grateful for any guidance on the CSS/HTML code that I need to use for inserting a static, 'responsive',  full screen, background image on  a website.
    Best wishes
    Simon

    Depending on what kind of browser support you want to include, this can be a single line of css code...
    background-size:cover;
    ...which takes care of all modern browsers back to IE9. Or, if you want to support older browsers (IE8 and lower), a more involved javascript would be required...

    Hi,
    First of all, please run the command slmgr.vbs /dlv
    After that, check the License status if it is licensed.
    Is there any error message when you couldn't change lock background or this option just grey out?

  • Login Screen Background Image

    I have my mac configured so that you must pick your userid and then enter the password in order to log in. After upgrading to 10.5, the image displayed in the background of the initial login screen is the Time Machine image. This changed from what I had it set to before the upgrade, but I can't seem to find where to change this image. I was able to change the image for the desktop, but I can't seem to find where to change the login screen image.
    Any help appreciated!

    Go into your Macintosh HD drive, then the System folder, then Library to find a folder called Core Services, there is a file called DefaultDesktop.jpg, copy this file to another location, DONT DELETE IT!!! Then find a picture you want to use and rename it to DefaultDesktop.jpg and copy it into the Core Services folder, confirm to replace the existing one, it may ask for a password, input the password, restart and this should do it.

    the movie is set to 100% x 100% instead of fixed pixels size,
    causing the
    SWF to fill any available space in browser. You can see the

  • How do I change the user log in screen background on Lion?

    Note:I'm talking about the screen for Users Log where multiple users log in.
    Right now the default is a solid grey. there has to be a way to change it to something more esthetically pleasing.

    Look for a previous entry in this group
    "Lion Default Login Window"  It was back around August 2nd or so.
    There may be a better way than is listed in that thread but so far I haven't found it but I have been tied up with other Lion problems and have not really looked much further on the default login window issue.

  • How to setup jpeg file as background image for all site pages and resolution stay same?

    I have uploaded my new site to http://wwwtjhtestdec2012.businesscatalyst.com
    I have background image set the same on all site pages  but image is incorrectly zoomed way in on some pages (like Home page for example).
    The Donate Page shows the correct resolution which I want displayed on all site pages.
    How do I set all other site pages to match background image resolution of the Donate Page?
    I am not sure what I am doing wrong that is changing this, or if it's possibly a bug?
    I want the background image to be full screen on all site pages please advise how to resolve.
    I would appreciate the assistance!
    Thank you kindly!
    Tammy

    I have re-uploaded my site to http://wwwtjhtestdec2012.businesscatalyst.com.
    If I set the Master page to Tile vertically that is only way I can get full screen background image of vegetables (without distortion).
    Then however another issue occurs....
    On Home Page of site I set same property to Tile and the background is better (no visible line where tiles meet---above the navigation tool bar--that is what I want for all pages associated to Master.
    So logically, I tried setting a 2nd associated site page to same master, to Tile but on Statement of Faith Page, notice the horizontal line where tiles meet, above my navigation bar on that site page?
    Why does Muse not handle both site pages associated to the same master identically?
    Any of the other options besides Tile or Tile vertically cause the background to not fill entire screen.
    Ideas?

  • [Solved] -Change the background image of gdm login screen.

    When I first installed Arch I found that the default background image of gdm login screen ( or lock screen ) didn't look good with the desktop image that I had, so when I installed I looked for a way to change this. Sadly I could not find any direct and easy way, I looked in forums, I looked in gconf-editor and I could not find any relevant information about it. So I decided to look for the file and change it.
    This was not the best option, clearly since now that I installed Gnome 2.30 it replaced the image with the old one and I had to change the file again. Since maybe some other people are having similar problems I thought I could just post the place where gdm is looking for the file, and if somebody has any suggestions about how to change it with a better way, I would welcome it .
    After the longest intro to a directory, here it is: /usr/share/pixmaps/backgrounds/gnome/background-default.jpg
    Thank you .

    Not to belabour the point, but after much hair pulling, I stumbled upon the following method, and it works perfectly. It sets the default background (for GDM login, Lock, desktop...etc.) for Gnome to whatever you want--even new users get the new default background on their desktop, although they can obviously change it, this is only the default. The page also shows a method of doing the same as gnome-appearance-properties method with just gconftool-2. I hope this doesn't just cause confusion.
    [Note: It still has to be run as root of course. I used sudo.]
    http://library.gnome.org/admin/system-a … n#gconf-20
    gconftool-2 --direct \
    --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults \
    --type string \
    --set /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename some_picture_filename.png

  • [SOLVED] GNOME 3.16 + GDM Login & Background Image

    It's being surprisingly difficult to understand what's needed in order to have a login screen that does not contain the default noise PNG as background.
    Apparently now the default theme is a gresource so common css overwrite don't seem to make it.
    How did you folks solved this problem?
    Apologies if already discussed, it's just that the problem is NOT the GNOME Desktop Background, and NOT the lock screen, just ONLY the gdm background screen during login.
    Other tricks seem to not work neither:
    sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver picture-uri '/new/picture.png'
    Thanks for any sort of help with this and Best Regards

    I finally got this to work. The wiki needs updating as of now it only states that gnome shell theme is now in a binary format, but not how to extract and repack it afterwards...
    Anyway this is how i got it to work.
    Use this script to extract gnome-shell-theme inside your choosen working directory
    extractgst.sh
    #! /bin/sh
    #change workdir to suit your system
    workdir=/home/merlin/temp/GS/test
    gst=/usr/share/gnome-shell/gnome-shell-theme.gresource
    mkdir theme
    for r in `gresource list $gst`; do
    gresource extract $gst $r >$workdir${r/#\/org\/gnome\/shell/}
    done
    Once you've run the script you should have the theme extracted to the theme folder which was created inside your workdir.
    Now you can proceed to add a background image to this folder and edit gnome-shell.css by following the wiki page.
    You must now create the file gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml inside the theme directory. Simply copy paste the xml code below into  gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml,  making sure to change the line that refers to your background image. On my system the background image is named login-background.jpg
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <gresources>
    <gresource prefix="/org/gnome/shell/theme">
    <file>calendar-arrow-left.svg</file>
    <file>calendar-arrow-right.svg</file>
    <file>calendar-today.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-focused.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-off-focused.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-off.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox.svg</file>
    <file>close-window.svg</file>
    <file>close.svg</file>
    <file>corner-ripple-ltr.png</file>
    <file>corner-ripple-rtl.png</file>
    <file>dash-placeholder.svg</file>
    <file>filter-selected-ltr.svg</file>
    <file>filter-selected-rtl.svg</file>
    <file>gnome-shell.css</file>
    <file>gnome-shell-high-contrast.css</file>
    <file>logged-in-indicator.svg</file>
    <file>login-background.jpg</file>
    <file>more-results.svg</file>
    <file>no-events.svg</file>
    <file>no-notifications.svg</file>
    <file>noise-texture.png</file>
    <file>page-indicator-active.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-inactive.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-checked.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-hover.svg</file>
    <file>process-working.svg</file>
    <file>running-indicator.svg</file>
    <file>source-button-border.svg</file>
    <file>summary-counter.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-off-us.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-off-intl.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-on-us.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-on-intl.svg</file>
    <file>ws-switch-arrow-up.png</file>
    <file>ws-switch-arrow-down.png</file>
    </gresource>
    </gresources>
    now the only thing left to do is to run
    cd ./theme
    glib-compile-resources gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml
    It will create a gresource file that you can swap in /usr/share/gnome-shell.
    Good luck and hopefully I will save many some headache. Took me quite a while to get the whole thing working

  • How to set a background image to fill the entire screen on any device in a spark mobile application

    Hi,
    I started developing a mobile application with Flex.
    I'm trying to set a background image to fill the whole screen. I've been stucked at this point for days now. I tried everything and no solution seems to work for me.
    I'm using a TabbedViewNavigatorApplication and i need to set some background images on views.
    I need my image to fill the entire screen on any device. i don't need to mantain image aspect ratio,  just need it to be fullscreen. This seemed to work when setting a custom skin on the TabbedViewNavigatorApplication, however this blocked all my views for some reason and all components contained in view became invisible.
    Can you please tell me how can i achieve this?
    Kind regards,
    Dan

    Basically you need a larger image which can accommodate any device. The trick is to show only what each device can display, so therefore some clipping will occur based on device. Have something centered and towards margins have a  gradient or just plane colors that way the stuff in the middle will be visible on every device while nobody will care if you are clipping from the color fill.

    How can I get rid of the dark area on top one third of my iphone screen which spoils my background image?
    It seems this problem is caused by the software to increase the readibility of upper letters (clock battery etc.) It be nice to leave us the control of choosing background letter color too if we are using brighter images or darker images.
    I'm using iphone 4s and it appeared after I updated to new patch. 7.1.1.
