I am curious about it that, Is GDR2 or Amber update is same ? Or different?

Does the website show that the update is available for your phone variant? http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/wp8-availability-in-africa/
you can see the variant of your phone in Settings > extras+info > more information. It is the one under Mobile operator

Today Morning I checked for phone updates and my 820 shows me phone updates GDR2(MS) and Amber(Nokia)..what a brilliant start after a week of holidays(India)..
Downloaded >>installed>>running on my mobile till now no issues..
Took approximately 20-30 mins for the whole process to complete..
Got the radio back under music+videos..Glance mode is really cool function under the display settings..
Double tap to wake up..and Lumia Colour Profile also working..
One More thing pending for me Smart Camera App.. ..

I think you should wait for AT&T roll out because it is the best and safest method to get all the updates without voiding your warranty. status is showing "waiting for approval" so you have to wait some more days to get it but according to nokia all the phones will get the update till end of the september so wait it's coming.

Got GDR2 without Amber!!

I have a nokia Lumia 820, It's NOT locked under any carrier, Nokia posted that The Lumia 820 should get Amber in pakistan, and my phone popped up an update notification, I received 3 updates, all of them where Microsoft updates (I didn't get the Nokia Update for Windows Phone), it's been over a week, and i still get no updates are available after my phone got GDR2, and i want the Amber features. Any ideas on why my phone isn't getting the Nokia Update for Windows Phone?
Here are the details of my phone:
O/S Version: 8.0.10328.78
Firmware Revision: 1232.5957.1308.0001 <-- I assume this is supposed to be upgraded in order to have amber.
Hardware Revision: 1.0.0.0
Radio Software: 1.0.202093.3
Chip SoC Version: 8960
Manufacturer Name: RM-825_im_mea3_429
I really don't want to reset the phone just for this, it's kind of frustrating to do such thing, did anyone face a similar issue? (Note that i have updated all the nokia apps on my phone, i have the latest extras+Info app and it doesn't show Amber under the Software Release Section.

Amber + GDR2 updates

Our phones 920 and 820 just got Amber and GDR2 updates. Is there Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy now supported ?

according to the specifications, yes GDR2 and Amber update facilitates support of the Bluetooth 4.0 LE standard. though i haven't heard much from users who have stated that this indeed is the case, so to be sure i would check in person if possible if the desired accessory you are after indeed works with your device.

GDR2+Amber but actually without amber

Hello all,
Today I updated software of my Lumia 920. At this moment info about OS and firmware in the phone is:
OS version:8.0.10328.78
Firmware: 3047.0000.1326.2005
From websearch I understand that those numbers shoud stand for latest versions of GDR2 and Amber.
My problem is this: I have no signs that amber is properly installed (besides the firmware version number). There are no apps related to amber, updated settings options (such as dubble tap the screen to wake it up etc).
I did get FM radio so I guess GDR2 is properly installed.
Is there a way to verify installation or manually install Amber?

Unreliable call notifications on Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8

My wife and I both own the Lumia 920 with the latest Windows Phone 8 update (GDR2/Lumia Amber). We have installed Skype on each handset. We are signed into the app and into our Live accounts. I used her phone and Skyped my phone. Nothing happened. Though her Skype app showed my phone to be "ringing," my phone in fact never gave any indication that a call was trying to come in. There was also no notification on the lockscreen, though I enabled that feature on my phone's settings.
I went into the Skype app and looked under its settings, but all I find are toggles to turn on Skype and Messenger messages, both of which are on. I know that I'm missing something. I checked Background Tasks on the handset. Skype doesn't show up on the list of blocked apps. But neither does it show up as "allowed." When I go into Background Tasks > Advanced, there is a list of grayed-out items that I "may not be able to block," and Skype is on that list. But I can find no option to manually permit it.
How do I know when someone is Skyping me?

It's been over a month since my first post and providing the Skype team with details for them to troubleshoot, still no word from them. I have almost all the issues that you would find online about Skype and nothing they said is fixed works for me. I have since tested on my iPad 2 (iOS 7) as well, same story and having multiple devices made it even worse. I don't get sound when text notifications arrive on my iPad, just on-screen alerts (yes, Skype notifications have been set to play sound). Calls only show up as missed calls after the fact, just like my WP8. Skype was unresponsive when I tried to pick up a text notification on the iPad and I had to switch over to my WP8, just to have my first failed reply using the iPad pop up the next day on my PC. What's even funnier was the other side received this "first" response 5 or 6 hours before I saw it on my side and his response to that didn't get to me until 7 hours later when the real conversation concluded the night before. The multiple device sync they said they fixed back in the Feb release isn't working either. I would be texting away on the iPad and my phone sitting right next to me would be pinging away with notifications. So much for only sending notifications to the active device. Maybe they're pinging my phone to compensate for the soundless iOS? Even something simple as emoticons is messed up. I've received them as code on my PC from someone texting me from another Skype account, they've turned into little squares or code if I view the conversation on a different device from the one I used to send them originally. Profile pics of contacts appear and disappear at random. Even what you think is the most stable and functional PC version is crapping out. Statuses of my contacts are rarely current and you need to log off and log back on to trigger it to refresh. And that doesn't work 100% of the time. Renaming contacts on the PC does nothing when you view it on other devices. So my contacts who have mutliple accounts show up with the exact same name multiple times on my WP8 and iPad. I have to go into the contact details in order to tell which one is personal and which one is work. I don't think you can make it this bad if you intentionally tried. They have essentially killed two great products with one merger and pissed off both loyal Messenger and Skype users. If I didn't have contacts on Lync, which only Skype can reach when you don't have Lync at home, I would have been so gone.

Amber/GDR2 Update niggle - Call Forwarding symbol

Hi there,
I recently updated my UK Lumia 920 'Everything Everywhere' variant to Amber/GDR2, but for some unknown reason the screen is now permanently displaying the 'Call Forwarding' symbol even though this feature is disabled.
Can anyone hazard a guess?

If its still there, May be there is a Message already forwarded to the Voice Mail .. ??

Could I know when the OTA update for the Lumia 620 will be available..?

From what Ive googled, others have been able to hardwire Amber into their 620s..only to find out FM Radio and Tap to Wake isnt support, but what is supported is more color saturation (to get deeper colors like 800's amoled display) and clock always on.

GDR2+Amber updates in Nigeria

Am really disappointed on how Nokia has rolled out updates in Nigeria knowing fully well that they have a large customer base there. Ever since they started rolling out in Africa the statuses have remained "waiting for approval" while lesser countries statuses have changed to coming soon. I hope you guys fix this soonest.

I don't know why the Nigerian Telecom Authorities and or the telecom operators would be delaying approval if this response is not a blatant lie?! You are telling us that our phones are network locked right? And operators have to test compatibility with their system when all we got are unlocked phones without Subsidized price whatsoever? Nokia is just making software update a big deal as if we never used Apple and Samsung products with updates rolling out as at when due. Please accept your gross incompetence and make amends in future updates. We love Nokia and that's the only reason I'm still using Lumia 920 with this poor support services.
If network operators and authorities have to test and approve all OS updates on all phone models and brands , all Nigerian youths would be gainfully employed by now.

Amber update is not working in my lumia 520

i have installed new update in my lumia 520 .it installed fully and successfully but i cannot find of new features in my phone !!?? features like call+sms filter ,radio and so on.., how can i solve this problem.

Perhaps a more helpful answer is to install "Lumia System Updater". That app will allow you to check and update all the system apps on your phone (such as "extras+info", "about" etc.) that are required for the Amber/GDR2 update to be "seen".

AT&T and Lumia Amber Update DELAYS and delivery ti...

1) AT&T customers who are also Lumia owners now know that AT&T missed the Nokia deadline for all Lumia phones receiving the Amber update by 9/30/2013.
2) Here is an AT&T Facebook session I had with Nicole L. yesterday. You will note their (AT&T's) best answer is we affirmatively will receive the update in a few weeks:

In a conversation I had with AT&T Customer Care rep "LaTonya", she was unable to confirm a timeframe. I made mention of the fact that when Apple sneezes AT&T gets a cold; however when Nokia speaks AT&T yawns. LaTonya enjoyed my observation.
Is there a way to press Nokia USA corporate into advocacy on our behalf?

With Lumia Amber we expect to have the update arriving in all Lumia Windows Phone 8 phones by the end of September. Be patient – it’s coming!
So there is no deadline like you claim and Nokia would never make such claims. That said, you bought an ATT device made by Nokia and as such ATT is the company ultimately responsible for this. It is up to them to approve the update and allow it to be made available to their product(range).

WPcentral is a techblog, they work on rumour and unconfirmed information and like to speculate. Here on Nokia Support Discussions specualtion on future releases is not allowed. When it's ready Nokia.MSFT will tell us and until then anything you hear or read should be considered speculation.

Frequently hanged after GDR2 update in Lumia 820

i'm using Lumia 820. last august i update my Lumia 820 to GDR2 update aka Amber update. I purchase my handset from sigapore using Starhub promotoion but it was a open handset. later i came to bangladesh and face some problem with power. i took it to my local nokia care center. than they update it to GDR2 after that my handset is frequently hanged. it hangs when i switch on the WiFi or data connection.
I suspect my OS is not loaded 100% correctly.

HW revision number: 1.0.0.0
Radio Sw version: 1.0.202132.3

another interesting thing is after this GDR2 update my 4G version is no more available.
please suggest what should be my setps to make this device stable.it was stable with the old FW but after GDR2 it is not stabel. i love Lumia/WP8. it is 100% fit with my life style.
i dont want to take this device to local nokia care agina. i dont trust them. please advice how i can improve my device without taking it to Nokia care.

You can try resettng it but if it doesnt resolve, I suggest you bring it back to the care point so they can reflash it. I suspect they may have used the wrong version.

Lumia amber issue

A lot of issues occurs after updating my 920 with latest version.
1. Processing become slow.
2. Games like temple run and istunt not working properly.
3. Automatic brightness issue e.t.c.

As already mentioned hundreds of times since the update was released, you also need to update a certain number of system apps before the new features with GDR2/Amber are "visible" to you.
To that end, install "Lumia System Updater" and use it to update your system apps.
