GE60 0ND BIOS Update

Hi,
I've tried to look for the answer by myself but could'nt find a solution.
I have a MSI GE60 0ND pre-set with FreeDOS and I update it with Win 8.1.
I need to use linux so i created a virtualbox but there was a virtualization issue.
I've tried to enable the virtualization in the BIOS (Advenced) but the CPU option was not there. I use the .10F version of the bios and i can't update it for a .514
Is it normal ? Can i (and how can i) update the bios ?
PS : I downloaded the bios' files and followed the instruction to turn my USB key into an USB EFI bootable device but it's not detected as one.
instructions :  msi.com/files/pdf/win8_UEFI_BIOS_Update_auto_en.pdf]http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/win8_UEFI_BIOS_Update_auto_en.pdf

In earlier models, you can't just cross-flash the BIOS from Win7 to Win8, or vice versa.
I remember the virtualization is always enabled in BIOS by default but there's no info shown in BIOS.
And the virtualization also requires the support of the CPU.
Check Intel ARK website to see if your CPU supports VT-d/VT-x or install Intel Processor Identification Utility to know if it supports.
If you're sure the CPU supports it but still can't use VT, suggest to install a utility called "Piriform Speccy" and click "CPU" page to check if your system supports it.

  • MSI GE60 0ND BIOS and EC Request

My System (GE60 0ND-228XTH) came with FreeDos pre-installed.
    BIOS Version: E16GAIMS.10F
    BIOS Build:     12/18/2012 15:20:43
    EC Version:    16GAEMS Ver4.04
    EC Build:        04/26/2012
The real need of this request is to fix the Wireless Connection Drop issue (happens randomly or after waking up) occurred in Windows 8 OS.
    I have tried ...
      - Every combination of BIOS/EC that are provided in the official MSI page and compatible with my System.
      - Every SCM that is compatible with Windows 8 OS.
      - Any solution about Connection Drop issue in Windows 8 OS.
    but still no luck.
The best bet is to use
     - E16GAIMS.10F   BIOS
     - 16GAEMS1.505  EC
Though the problem still persist, the frequency of occurrence is less than other approaches.
Since this above EC firmware is for Windows 8 System, so this is not the best workaround for my system.
That is why my assumption came up with BIOS/EC and made this request.
This problem is NEVER shown in the Windows 7 OS and any Linux Distributions.
Also, can you add any updates possible for BIOS and EC.
I will make a donation as soon as possible after your confirmation.
    Thank in advance.
Edit: Added Current BIOS Configuration Screen.

its probably wifi driver related or something specified for win8
    try different wifi drivers
I already tried many drivers from the MSI itself, Intel, even other Notebook Manufacturers, but still not working.
I have tested Windows 8 in my friend's notebook(DELL) that has similar Wireless Adapter and everything working fine without issues like mine, so that means Windows 8 is not the culprit.

try set wifi to max performance from power profiles
This is one of solutions I've tried long ago and it failed.
    Anyway, thank for your response.

  • MSI GE60 0ND Bios

    Hi Everyone,
    I got the MSI GE60 0ND which comes with 8GB Ram (2x4GB).
    I have upgraded the ram with Corsair 16GB (2 x 8GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 SODIMM RAM - 9-9-9-24.
The problem i am facing now is that i am getting BSoD (Blue Screen) about memory.
I think this is because i need to setup the Mhz to 1600 in the Bios?
Now the problem comes with the Bios it has installed, as it must be locked.
I can't find any setting available there and i don't know what to do...
    Bios Version: E16GAIMS.108
    EC Version: 16GAEMS1 Ver4.04
    OS: Windows 7
    CC: GTX 660M
    CPU: i7-3610QM
Can someone please guide me through what i need to do?
    Thanks in advance.

Usually it is as simple as rock but looking at how many people do not follow this I believe it must be in Sticky thread.
    1. If you have any problem then update your Firmware (4.05) and BIOS (10F)
    2. Don't forget to power drain or reset EC.
More than 50% of people get this advice on this forum so I guess t must be a big banner, not even just a sticky thread.
By the way quick googling your question moves to a youtube video where RAM can be overclocked.
Although I don't think that you can use it because:
    a) Corsair sticks (especially 8GB) do not overclock well;
    b) I guess you don't need it. Check CPU-z to see actual timings and frequency.

  • GE60 0ND BIOS setting

So my computer is the GE60 0ND and I need to enable Hardware Virtualization.
However when I enter BIOS setting, there are only a limited number of available settings(I am not sure whether there are hidden ones). Even the BIOS update setting is not there
So what am I supposed to do to get the advanced settings?
I'm a noob so step-to-step instruction is appreciated

I believe that if his BIOS is old, it might not be enabled though, correct Svet? He might need to update to the latest BIOS for the GE60 0ND.....
Be sure to use >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
He is using latest BIOS as we can see from the photos,
where VT is enabled for sure.

I tried to update my BIOS using various methods, including the MSI USB flash tool. But the instruction and the program are confusing because my BIOS zip file downloaded from MSI website doesn't have the "flash.bat" thing. And the program doesn't show the option to point directly to the BIOS file (only archive file). And I was unable to do anything with the BIOS :(
    again:

There is no such option available, but VT-x is already Enabled if your CPU support it

  • MSI GE60 0ND - Fan Issue - Cooler Boost Button

    Hello,
I have a problem with my MSI GE60 0ND. The fan / cooler boost button above the keyboard is always glowing and sometimes very light flickering. The fan spins at a normal and quiet level.
When I press the button the fan starts spinning up and stays at the high level. The ligt of the button keeps glowing, but the flickering stops completly. When I press it again the fan goes back to a normal level, but the light keeps glowing.
I recently updates the EC-Version, because I had an issue with my fan which was really annoying. Before the EC update my fan kept spinning up and down every 10-20 seconds.
The temperatures ware always at a normal level. I own my MSI GE60 about one year. The spinning fan issue started just one month ago, but was fixed trough the update.
Some detailed information about my notebook:
    MSI GE60 0ND
    Bios: E16GAIMS.10F (Release version)
    EC-Version: 16GAEMS1 Ver4.05
I'm using Windows 7 x64 and tried also Windows 8.1 x64. Both have the same fan button issue.
Installing / Uninstalling MSI SCM utility didnt make any difference.
    Regards
    Thomas

fan is constantly spinning with the same, average speed. It goes faster when on stress but continue to spin when system is idle
    Bios Version: E16GAIMS.10F
    EC Version: 16GAEMS1 Ver4.05
Sorry to spoil that, but the fan was indeed always spinning before, too. But very quietly at a low rate! You could observe rotational speed in RWeverything and it did NEVER stop with that notebook (GE60) and the EC-version 14.04
If you want to go back, check out my post here. There are the old firmware files included as well. But read the readme.txt thoroughly first!

So you can´t update an GE60 with freedos to UEFI, is that right?
I have Windows 8 on my GE60 freedos und the problem that my GPU won´t boost.
Will this bug be fixed anytime soon?
You cannot update the GE60 that came with FreeDOS to UEFI, correct.
The GE60 does not have a GPU boost function like other models do. It does have a built in GPU boost that is regulated by the GPU, and this was fixed with a recent firmware update (roughly 3 or 4 months ago). You should update to the latest FreeDOS/Win7 bios if you have not yet.

  • BIOS update, GE60 0ND-296NE

    Hi,
I´m have some questions when it comes to upgrading BIOS on my GE60 0ND-296NE.
My notebook came with win8 pre-installed, but when i check my current BIOS version it says: E16GAIMS.10E, which I think is kind of strange. As I understand it, this version is for notebooks that doesn´t come with win8 pre-installed?
I´m guessing that i have to use the BIOS version for win7, but I would really like to be able to have the BIOS for win8, is there any way i can flash win8 BIOS if I´m currently using the win7 version (E16GAIMS.10E)?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.
No, there is no windows key on a sticker at the bottom of my notebook, neither on the adapter where they sometimes put it, but I have a windows 8 sticker on the top (just a sticker that says Windows8).
I don´t know if the information below matters, but it probably doesn´t hurt.
I bought the notebook refurbished, and I believe that they have changed the motherboard (but it´s the same model as the original, MS-16GA). They had also forgotten to format the hard drive, so I had to do a reset (Remove everything and reinstall Windows, in windows 8) and when I had windows installed again it said that the serial code for windows was invalid, so i had to use a new windows key.

    I have the GE60 0ND-296NE

    BIOS Version: E16GAIMS.513
    BIOS Date:  11/8/2012
    EC-FW Version:  16GAEMS1.504
I would like to update to the 514 bios and the 506 ec-fw with unlocked bios options.  I am also having a hard time flashing the updated bios with the msihq tool. the tool gives me an error with the bios archive. it says the archive should be extracted and then to use mode 2 to select the bios file directly but on my nb mode 2 is not an option. i do not have the option to update the bios from the bios either. any help would be appreciated and of course a donation made for your services.

  • BIOS UPDATE for GE 60 - GE70 0ND (GPU BOOST ISSUE)

I and some of my friends have GPU boost issue with MSI GE60 and GE70 0ND ... (GTX 660M) in TURKEY
We also have a forum for this issue and number of members increases day by day.
We have E16GAIMS.513 BIOS in our notebooks.
One of our friends sent his laptop to technical service and they downloaded newer BIOS 514 (WIN8)and this GPU issue is solved.
However, since there is no update for 514 BIOS in download tab, we cannot update our BIOS and GPU issue continues.
Can you upload this newer 514 BIOS update to download tab as soon as possible.
We are expecting your positive answers.

Quote from: pshywar on 30-March-13, 04:35:40
I think we should wait that this update is uploaded to main website in order to prevent some compatibility or etc issues.
BIOS update is a important issue and it can causes irrecoverable problems. So, we continue to wait
That's a good point; while I got back I was thinking of flashing it but had a re-read of the step-by-step guide before doing so and thought otherwise. Best wait for the official one, that is if they release it.
I'm also going to contact the customer service support to have this included in their download section. I made enough noise for them to update the HD Audio drivers, so here's to this getting the inclusion as well.
Quote from: Prema on 30-March-13, 05:59:24
It was a test, they may never publish it...
But they included the latest BIOS in the Topic Creator's friend's Notebook. Hopefully, if enough noise is made, they will publish it.
Quote from: darkhawk on 30-March-13, 09:47:09
Here's my thoughts. And you probably won't like them.
Try upgrading using that BIOS. What's the worst that could happen? You brick your machine? Make sure everything is backed up, and try it. You want the VBIOS portion fixed so it boosts? Well.....try that BIOS. And if it doesn't work or bricks the machine, you'll need to send it back anyway and they will probably load the BIOS on it then anyway.......
Either way, it's a win (albeit, in 1 situation it might take a few weeks....). You'll get what you want.
    I obviously can't try it as I don't have a GE60.....
I think it might be best to just wait for the official one, as the warranty services in Australia are absolutely poops, be it any make or brand - most companies are not obligated to have the customer's best interest at heart, so if they can get away with voiding it, they will -  so I'm not too keen to test this unofficial one lest it affects my warranty.
Thanks for your input though, nonetheless, darkhawk.

  • BIOS and Virtualization Issues - GE60-0ND

After extensive searching through this forum, and googling in general, I have been unable to identify any solid answer.  So here's the background:
I purchased the MSI GE60 0ND-042U over a year ago. Upon receipt, I immediately swapped out the hard disk for a SSD, and loaded a clean install of Windows 8 on it.  Everything worked out just fine.
Now, I'm trying to run Windows Phone emulators in Visual Studio Express, which requires Hyper-V virtualization.  Hyper-V will not enable within Win8's "Programs and Features" menu.  Running "systeminfo.exe" from a command prompt yields the following:
    "Virtualization Enabled in Firmware:  No"
At which point I'm directed to enable said features in the BIOS.  The related options for virtualization in the BIOS are nowhere to be found.  Further searching recommends updating the BIOS.
My current BIOS information is as follows:
    Per "systeminfo.exe":    American Megatrends Inc. E16GAIMS.108 5/2/2012
    Per MSI Live Update 6:  MS-16GAE 1.80
MSI's support page for my product has two BIOS updates, one for Win7 and one for Win8.  Neither of them match what I currently have.  Additional searching through this forum yields more confusion - I've learned that I should NOT update to the Win8 BIOS, since my notebook was packaged with Win7.  I've learned that I should NOT update to the Win7 BIOS, since my notebook is currently running Win8.
Would a BIOS unlock help?  Am I SOL?
As you might have guessed by now, I'm not familiar with BIOS updating, and have no experience with it.  To those who can help, I appreciate your time, and look forward to your response!

Why did you update it 4 times?
    What OS are you using?

    Hello,
I'm currently trying to install Ubuntu on my MSI GE60 0ND notebook but I'm having troubles to boot on my USB flash drive in EFI mode.
I've disabled Fast Boot and Secure Boot options but the only thing I can have is the GRUB menu of the liveUSB and whatever option I try I always get a blank screen. On the other hand everything works fine when I set the BIOS on Legacy mode.
It's the same problem they have on this thread : https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165756.0 but with an other notebook.
The problem is  I want to keep Windows 8 side by side with Ubuntu so I must have them both installed in EFI mode.
I asked for help on a specialized forum (french Ubuntu's community) and they believe this problem is related to the BIOS. Do you think an unlocked BIOS will help with that ?

    BIOS Build : 03/12/2013
    EC Version : 16GAEMS1 Ver5.05
