  • NVIDIA Optimus on MSI GE70 2OE: No screens, then server fails to start

    Hello,
I have recently acquired an MSI GE70 2OE-071 laptop with the following configuration, intending to run Arch Linux (dual boot with Windows 7) on it:
    CPU: Intel Core i7-4700 MQ
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M (2 GB DDR5 memory)
    LCD: 17.3" FHD 1920x1080
    Memory: 12 GB DDR3
    HDD: 1 TB 7200 RPM
I originally installed Arch Linux the same way as described in the beginner's guide. I could get the basic twm setup to work, but the moment I installed the proprietary drivers (using pacman -S nvidia, followed by nvidia-xconfig, followed by a reboot), X Windows crashed, i.e. I started getting the No screens found error. So after some days of digging, I found the NVIDIA Optimus wiki page. Following the advice here, I could get rid of this error, but I still cannot get into the GUI, because the server terminates. There is no hardware problem that I can think of because Manjaro Linux works fine, and being a perpetual Arch novice eager to learn, I just wanted to get this thing to work from the ground up.
So I'd really appreciate some help.
Here are the relevant files and command outputs.

If I understand this correctly, then you have an Optimus graphics card (couldn't find anything online, but your lspci looks like it). I too have such a setup on my laptop. The thing to keep in mind here, is that your main graphics card is the Intel integrated card. So instead of installing your system like with an nvidia card, you install it like an intel card. Specifically, you would want to follow the instructions on Bumblebee. Once you followed them, the whole graphics part runs on the Intel card. Once you want to play a game or do some other heavy graphics card work you call your application like this:
    optirun wine /path/to/game.exe
Notice how optirun tells the system to use the nvidia card. It will take a second or two to start it (specifically, enable the card, start another X screen and launch the application on it transparently). Follow the instructions in the Wiki if you have any problems.
If you don't have an Optimus card (just NVIDIA, no Intel), then don't follow any Optimus instructions, just usual NVIDIA stuff from the Wiki.

  • NVIDIA NVS Graphic adapter support KVM-Intel AMT/vPro?

    Hi there,
I have a Thinkpad T410, Intel core i7, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN and the NVIDIA NVS 3100m Graphic adapter, I asked to Intel and that adapter does not support KVM:
    http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/showthread.php?t=78585&o=a&s=lr
I need to use KVM and I cannot understand why if the Lenovo product review shows the NVIDIA adapter supports AMT why it acually does not support KVM, so it does not really support AMT (it's just a partial support):
    http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/showthread.php?t=76173
So, I'm forced to lose a good NVIDIA graphic card for an integrated one, the question is: can I change to Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 57000MHD-AMT? -it's a cheaper one-
    Help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi javiercaceres!
According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it's part of the system board, so the graphics adapter can't be swapped out.
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • [LENOVO Y50-70] How To Set NVIDIA Card as Default Graphic Adapter

I have just bought Lenovo Y50-70. But i wonder how to set NVIDIA Card as default Graphic Adapter instead using Intel Card. Thanks

    hi monx,
    Welcome to the Forums.
The Y50-70 uses Nvidia Optimus Technology to automatically switch between the Intel GPU (for power saving) and Nvida GPU (for maximum performance).
To manually set the default graphics adapter, you will need to set this inside the Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings.

  • MSI GE70 2OE-012NL lost Turbo Boost after updating firmware? (or not)

    Read EDIT2
    Hi,
I just found out about the 2013-08-15 firmware update (version 1506) for my MSI GE70 2OE-012NL.
After flashing this, my cpu load doesn't go over 99% and max speed is around 2.38GHz. Before it had peaks to 3.40Ghz because of the Turbo Boost. (tested with Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool)
    Any insight on this?
EDIT: speed reduction is very noticable in applications like AutoCAD/REVIT/Cubase (rendering) and games (Battlefield 3 automatically threw me back to 'low' profile in graphic settings where it was 'high' before).
EDIT2: it's going up to 3.29Ghz again with a new test in Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool. Weird. Nevertheless I would like to know what the differences are.

Quote from: darkhawk on 13-December-13, 10:05:06
The reason it probably goes to 3.x GHz right away and then drops rather quickly to 2.4 GHz is most likely due to heat. 97C is getting close to the Tmax for the processor, and it's probably throttling back the CPU in order to keep it from being hurt.
Most likely you need to open the notebook up and replace the heatsink compound on the CPU and GPU (89C is rather hot IMHO for the GPU).
Or you can contact MSI and do an RMA.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
So you are saying that there is no another solution for this issue?

  • [TUTORIAL] GE70 2OE Installing Windows 7 (OS CHANGE)

    Hello Forum,
Here is my very first post on this forum... but I wanted to share my experience with switching OS on the new GE70 2OE-015NL (as the product name says, I'm from The Netherlands  )
I bought my GE70 and immidiately wanted to switch my OS to Windows 7... I owned a Dell Vostro 1700 Series and OS switches were never a problem on that notebook... as soon as i started with the OS change I ran into some problems that were difficult for me to fix (I'm not an expert) There were almost no tutorials to find about this, but I managed to fix it!
Before I figured out what to do, I called MSI Support so they could tell me if I could safely remove the BIOS_RVY partition etc. but as soon as I got someone on the phone and I told him that I already deleted the Windows 8 partitions and didn't get Windows 7 to install he began shouting that MSI doesn't support OS changes and that I had to send an email to their tech support so they could decide later on if they would help me or not.... I didn't ask for anything, I only wanted to know if I fkd up my new Notebook or that it would be repairable... a BIG  for the MSI Tech Support! After I called I immidiately googled if it was safe to delete the BIOS_RVY partition but there were no such forum posts that I could find.. Therefore I decided to make this post!
REMINDER: this tutorial is for those that find it difficult or are scared to change their OS without knowing what's going to happen.. I had to figure this all out on my own and therefore I want to help other people with similar problems! So maybe it's a bit noob for this forum I don't know.. but please don't hate because of that! ^^
WARNING: THE INSTALLED OS MUST BE A 64-BIT VERSION, ALSO I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU CAUSE TO YOUR NOTEBOOK/NETBOOK!
It is also recommended that you download all the drivers for Windows x64 before you install Windows because the network card won't work because of a lack of drivers so you need a second PC with a USB or you download them before the OS switch and put them on a USB.
Step 1: Make a bootable DVD/USB with Windows 7 x64 ISO on it, this can be done with Rufus for USB Flash Drives or PowerISO for DVD's! (I'm sorry I'm not allowed to post external links so you will have to google it  )
Step 2: Restart the PC and when the text MSI pops up you press the DEL (numpad " . " key) and you will get into the BIOS Menu
Step 3: Go to the BOOT tab and select Boot Mode (or something similar) and change the Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy
Step 4: Now you're Windows USB/DVD should be bootable (Microsoft says that Windows 7 supports UEFI Boot but I tried using multiple ISO's on different USB's and DVD's with different write speeds etc. but I didn't get Windows 7 Setup to boot beyond the 'Starting Windows' screen)
Step 5: When Windows 7 Setup is Booted select your country settings and time format and don't select the Upgrade option but the Custom (advanced) option to install Windows 7.
Now it's getting a bit difficult for most of us... Windows 7 Booted in a Legacy Boot Mode does not support GPT (Guid Partition Table) Disks, those can only be writed upon in UEFI mode. So now we need to change the Disk Partition Table to MBR (Master Boot Record). When you're at the partition menu, format and delete all partitions (yes don't worry you can safely delete all the partitions (when deleting the BIOS_RVY partition the F3 Hotkey function won't work anymore but we don't want that because it will recover Windows 8 but we hate that OS.. that's why we want to change to Windows 7!)
Step 6: Now that all the partitions are deleted on the disk, we can openup CMD this can be done by pressing SHIFT+ F10 in the partition menu of the Windows 7 Setup.
    Now type the following commands:
    Diskpart
    List Disk
Select Disk # (probably 0, because the most notebooks only have 1 HDD)
    Convert MBR
Now your HDD is converted to a MBR Partition Table
Step 7: Make a new partition (or more, depends on how much storage you have and want on your C:\ partition, Windows will automatically make some System partition(s))
Step 8: Select the partition on which you want to install Windows 7 and let it install! the MSI GE70 2OE supports Windows 7 x64 so all the drivers for that OS can be downloaded at the MSI website, product info (GE70 2OE) and then downloads -> Drivers.
Step 9: Install all the drivers and you're ready to go!
I hope I helped you with this problem, for me it was kinda hard to figure out that you could safely delete all the partitions on the disk without screwing up your PC.. So I hope I gave you some confidence with doing so after reading this tutorial!

    Hey man
I did this on the new msi ge60 2oc 014ne, which should be pretty much the same. Almost everything seems fine now except for two things.. I still cant det the wireless network adapter working, even though the ethernet works and Ive installed all drivers i could find. Do you have any idea what to do?
Second thing, in the Windows experience index, it gives my graphics card the grade 5.1, but it should be around 7. I installed the nvidia driver and all, so it doesn't really make sense to me... Any suggestions? Thanks!
Oh yeah, and the big foot boot agent message that shows up every time i boot the machine, i cant make it go away... I click shift + f10, clicks disable message and f4 for save and quit.. But it shows up again nemt time i boot... An annoying useless waste of time..
I guess it's pretty much the same indeed, do you have installed the Windows 7 x64 drivers for your wireless adapter or tried to install the Windows 8 ones? That could be the problem? If that's not the case and your ethernet is working, try checking for windows updates and see if it automatically installs the drivers for you? Make sure you installed the AzureWave Wireless LAN-NB114H driver that is available for your PC for Win7 x64, that driver as the name suggests is for wireless connection. Killer Bigfoot LAN is just for boosting your card so it's faster over LAN but the AzureWave makes the wireless connection available.. It worked for me so it should work for you?
If you did this all, try reinstalling it.. If that doesn't work, try formatting al partitions again en reinstall Windows 7 and start with a clean install...
About the videocard rate.. If your having problems with low FPS during gaming (maybe lower than normal) make sure you have installed the MSI driver for your graphic card (don't download it from the NVidia website) If you don't know, you can find all drivers for your device on the MSI website, Products -> Notebooks -> Gaming Series -> GE60 2OC -> Downloads
If the lower rate of the video card didn't cause low FPS I wouldn't worry too much if I were you
Oh, and about the Bigfoot Boot Manager.. I have the exact same thing.. I'm still figuring out how to get rid of it, but for now I went into the configure mode and set the message to disabled and the message time to 1 second (so that 1 second extra boot time isn't that bad..) If I found a solution to get rid of it I will let you know!
Hope I helped you, if not feel free to reply and ask again! We will figure it out together, or with help from someone else on this forum!

  • GE70-2OE -- Issues + Tweaks for n00bs

    All,
I just got my GE70-2OE with a GTX 765m for gaming on the road
I have been tweaking it and have the following questions:
1 - I immediately reinstalled Windows 7. I don't care what ANYONE says, Windows 8 is horrid. I tried to give it a chance but between all the bloatware and other interface issues, I just don't care for it. Are many users here running Windows 7 instead of 8 on their gaming notebook?
2 - Overall gaming performance is pretty nice at 1080p but this graphics card seems more geared towards a 1600x900 resolution. My biggest issue is, some games, like Grim Dawn, seem to be defaulting to the Intel Video instead of the NVIDIA. I am only getting like 10-15 FPS in that game where I get 120+ on my desktop NVIDIA card. Other games, it goes to the NVIDIA and performance is fine. Any tips? Is there a way to specify Integrated or discrete video? (PS - I am plugged into power)
3 - On the sound card, it's a Realtek sound card but the Sound Blaster Cinema software works with it -- Am I missing something?
4 - What does the unlocked GE70 BIOS allow you to do exactly?
5 - Any other tips, tweaks or tweaks for advanced users for this model?
    Thanks in advance!

Found my issue on Grim Dawn. I had to hard set the GPU in the NVIDIA control panel. Works fine now
I am still curious on a custom BIOS, etc. Also, how do I toggle the keyboard backlight on this model?
Talk to Svet/post in the custom bios sub-forum here. It will require a donation for Svet's time, but he can do it.
I'm not sure that all the GE70 models came with a backlit keyboard.
Does the backlight come on when you first power the notebook on? If it doesn't it probably didn't come with the  backlit keyboard.

  • GE70 2OE, FPS DROPS

    hey,
i bought the GE70 2OE gaming series notebook last week. but i noticed when i play CSGOi get fps drops from 170 fps to 20-30 fps for about 10 - 50 secs. This keeps on repeating during the gameplay and in dont think it's normal.
when i run MSI Kombustor i get 45 fps with 99% GPU Load, and without graphics ring i get 91 FPS with 17% GPU Load.
and if i look on msi afterburner when playing csgo i see that i have 70% GPU load = 170 FPS, and then it drops to 20 fps and i get 25% GPU Load.
i reinstalled csgo this didn't help, then i did a fresh W8 install but didn't help at all either. then i run MSI live update, it says there is a intel svga driver update, and when i install this i only get 15 fps on MSI Kombustor and 80fps on csgo. so i deleted this update because it got worse. i checked nvidia updates, but non available.
i hope somebody know's a fix, or knows what the problem is. to play games like this is not very fun.

Well, I'll be perfectly honest here, your CPU is running at nearly the max allowed temperature, which is most likely why it is throttling.
Notice how it's running at 80C or more on all the cores? That is not very good.....
Now, I'm not sure how adept you are with computers and/or electronics.
What I would suggest, if you are adept, is to replace/re-apply the thermal compound on the heatsink(s) for the CPU and maybe the GPU as well.
If you are NOT adept at it, then I would suggest RMA'ing the laptop.  >>How to contact MSI.<<
when i start the game, and core temp are like 60°C, the CPU is already throttling. not only at 83°C.
and is not always at 83°C, when playing it goes from 71 - 83°C, and when not playing, it goes from 54-61°C
and about the heatsinks, it's a brand new notebook. so i got it delivered broken or what? and what about my 2year warranty!
what u mean with RMA'ing the laptop? xD
i just ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool, and the test passed. temp and everything was normal.
test results ( i can give the TestResults.txt file for full test results):
    --- Load Level = 8
    CPU Load Passed!!!
     --- Temperature Test ---
    Temperature Test Passed!!!
    Temperature = 9 degrees C below maximum.

  • GE70 2OE

    Hi folks,
I recently bought the GE70 2OE laptop. Basically everything runs fine except for a problem that really irritates me. My laptop seems to freeze every minute or so and then it goes all black, and after a while I get a popup saying: "display driver stopped responding  and has recovered".
I have installed all the latest drivers. To be honest, I uninstalled all the drivers and installed them again but the problem doesnt seem to go away. The only way that I can use the laptop without giving me headache is when I go to Device manager and disable the intel 4600HD graphics. But then again, I cant really use the laptop for gaming when I disable this particular driver, and that's exactly why I bought the laptop for: gaming.
    Please oh please help.

Try deinstalling SCM and all VGA drivers (NVidia Drivers and Intel HD Drivers) then doe an EC-Reset: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=112416.0
Run latest DotNETFX for x64 Windows and reinstall latest SCM: http://www.msi.com/service/download/utility-21007.html
    To download DotNETFX: http://www.msi.com/service/download/utility-16791.html
Now reinstall latest MSI NVidia drivers: http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-20970.html
And Reinstall latest Intel HD Drivers: http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-21012.html
See if that fixes your problem..

  • MSI GE70-2oe - GPU Problem

    Hi
My notebook runs Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (and few other games) with Intel® HD Graphics 4600 but It should use GTX765, even If I set in Nvidia control panel to use high performance graphics card.
Please help, If you know how to force notebook to use better graphic card in games.
    My MSI GE70-2oe:
    -Intel Core i7-4700MQ
    -RAM 16 GB
    -Geforce GTX 765M 2GB DDR5 + Intel® HD Graphics 4600
    -Windows 7 64bit

right click on the .exe file and select nvdia processor
64bit versions of those games are still using Intel GPU, even with right click and select nvidia processor.

I find your problems pretty odd. I downloaded Planetside 2 from Steam and by default it ran on my GTX 680M (64bit exe). I changed  the gfx processor from Nvidia control panel, 3D settings, program settings to Intel [the exe is Planetside 2(launchpad.exe)] and the game ran then on it. 19 fps on Intel HD 4000, 59 fps (seems to be capped at screen refresh rate) on Nvidia. My drivers are 344.65 and 10.18.10.3958, on Win 8.1 64bit.
When I'm running this game (64bit) just after logging in to the game (map view), my laptop automatically changes used gpu from Nvidia to Intel HD Graphics, even if I right click on exe file and select high preformance gpu..
    Maybe its Windows 8.1 ??

  • Boot Camp & Windows 7 -- "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" (This is wrong.)

    Hello,
I am hoping I can find some help here, I have purged the internet looking for a solution, all to no avail.
    Heres the situation:
I have a 15" mac book pro unibody.
    500 gb hdd
    4 gb ram
    9600m gt graphics
Anyways, I decided to install windows 7 on a partition I made using boot camp, hoping to play the new Dragon Age: Origins game.
Everything went well with the install, except for the graphics card.
When I open the device manager, this is what it says:
    www.m2mlinks.com/cs445/images/Capture1.PNG
    "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"
Clearly wrong, clearly does not work with Dragon Age:
    www.m2mlinks.com/cs445/images/Capture2.PNG
("Graphics card not supported for this game")
So I don't know what to do, here's what I HAVE done.
--I tried going to the nVidia website and downloading the latest driver for my graphics card, only to have it say this when I try to run it:
    www.m2mlinks.com/cs445/images/Capture2.PNG
("There is no drivers in this package for the hardware on your computer")
--I tried going into Device Manage, right clicking Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, clicking properties->update drive->browse my computer->let me pick->picking my latest nVidia folder->picking 9600m gt from the list-> next. This looks like it starts to install, but then tells me that the control panel was not able to install successfully, so its REVERTING to the last working driver, uninstalling and restarting as I scream "Nooooooo!!".
--I tried changing the nvam.inf file, editing the device key value of the graphics I retrieved from running dxdiag, however when I ran dxdiag, it was the same device key as the one already in the nvam.inf file, so that changed nothing.
--Lastly (i just remembered this, I did this first), I tried downloading the latest BootCamp version (2.1 or something?), and this changed nothing as well.
I am severely exhausted and stressed from trying to get this to work, and I am in DIRE need of help, since one of the only reasons I put windows 7 on this was to play video games!!! Please dont let it be all for nothing haha.
Thanks for ANY help anyone can give me, I will answer ANY questions!!

Boot Camp in Snow Leopard does not yet "officially" support Windows 7, but such support has been promised "before the end of the year." See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3920
Presumably the updated Boot Camp will support drivers not currently available, such as the appropriate video drivers. The end of the year looms and there is as yet no word about better support for Windows 7. Lets hope there are new drivers, as there are many others in your situation, although plenty of other people report they are using Windows 7 and Boot Camp. I prefer to wait for the official release by Apple.

  • Not Able To Install Nvidia Graphics Drivers

    Hello all!
This past week I just finished putting my new system together with a K8N Diamond Plus. Only major problem right now is i am not able to install Nvidia's drivers. Below are my components...
    XP 64-Bit Edition
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
    BFG 7900 GTX 512MB
    1 Gig Coirsar Ram
2 Wester digital HD in Raid 0
When I try and install the graphics drivers i get the message " The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
I used the chip set drivers listed here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=710&kind=1
Also I have tried the ones from NVIDIA's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp64_x16_6.83
The graphics drivers i used are from NVIDIA's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_81.98.html
BFG Tech support guy had me look under display adapters in device manager. It only has Standard VGA Graphics Adapter listed. He said I did not have my chip set drivers installed (though i have), or the motherboard was not recognizing it. Also he said they do not support XP-64 and would not offer me any more support so long as i run it.
I just can not believe that XP 64, 7900 GTX, and this great K8N Diamond Plus can not get along.
Any advice anyone has for getting my Diamond Plus and my graphics card to jive together would be greatly appricated.
    Thankyou all!!

Thankyou guys for the responses. I was able to find drivers that worked with my card here..
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?drivers&series=80&os=2&type=1&dir=1
Now my only current issue left is that I have no sound. It is enabled in the BIOS, installed the 64-bit drivers from MSI site, tired installing drivers off disk. Any suggestion?

  • GE70 2OE won't go past bios screen

Hi, I bought a new GE70 2OE 7 days ago and I'm having trouble with it.
It came with window 8 pre installed. I did all the update then upgraded to windows 8.1 and all went fine. I also made my recovery disks before any updates and after all the updates. I installed some programs along with iTunes but after this I kept getting advertisements poping up which was very annoying, I tryed to stop them but they kept appearing so I thought I would do a clean install. Started with disk 1 and whent to 6. When it told me to reboot it went to the bios screen. Thinking I hade hit the del button with my finger. I exited and rebooted but it still goes to the bios screen. When it gets post the boot logo there is some righting the pops up for a fraction of a second, I think it says some thing about nvidia. It keeps doing this all the time.
    Need some help please

    Hi Dec,
The scrolling blue bars indicate that the Wondiows operating system is being loaded from the hard drive. If this process stalls during the load then it is likely that either the hard drive itself is defetive or the files which are being loaded are corrupt and cannot be loaded.
Interfering with the CMOS chip will not correct this problem since the BIOS has already been loaded at this stage.
If you have access to a bootable CD/DVD (such as Norton Disk Doctor) then I siggest you try booting from it and running a scan of your hard drive. Alternatively you could try re-installing your operating system from the Toshiba recovery CDs but this will over-write any of your own data on your hard drive.

  • How to Switch the graphic adapter in HP DV6-7078Ca

I want to change the graphic adapter from Intel to Nvidia because the intel is only 64 MB

    Hi,
It's been done automatically. Go to the nVidia Control Panel and have a look at the settings. You can set each application or program to run on a different graphics card but it's been set to auto as default. Auto means that the default card is the shared Intel HD X000 for a common usage but when you start playing games or run a video editing program it will automatically swich the graphics to nVidia. The Intel shared graphics has more than 64MB of RAM. It uses the main laptop RAM so in case that you have got 8GB of RAM the Intel HD graphics could take up to 1.5GB of RAM from it. Means that the laptop reserves up to 1.5GB of RAM for the Intel card and the rest can be used by the system.

  • Vga standard graphics adapter driver update

Hi does anyone know where I can find an updated VGA standard graphic adapter driver.? or what make it is?My young one is trying to play Roblox but keeps getting a message that the driver needs to be updated. Also if it is possible to install an other graphics card.

    Hi,
You need to be running DirectX 9 at a minimum and it's not on your PC per PC image that you posted. You can try installing Directx but I suspect that you might need a video card.  If you need a video card, then it's an older AGP style, 1.5v card that would be rated for Directx 9 and would work with the power supply size in your PC.
    Good luck!
