GE70 2PE secondary monitor resolution issue

So I bought a MSi GE70 2PE yesterday and today I tried connecting it with my tv with HDMI, which has worked fine both with my stationary computer as well as other computers, using the same cable.
Today however when i plugged it into this laptop I got a low 1024 resolution on my tv and the settings for resolution wont allow me to change it to any higher and can't duplicate the screen and extention of screen isn't working properly either as all of my screen apparently can't fit into the 1024 resoltuion, trying to bypass this by changing the resolution while plugging in the HDMI cable the TV just turned black and no sound was transmitted with the HDMI cable.
As far as I can understand for some unknown reason the secondary monitor uses the intel integrated graphics card, I've update the drivers both for this and for the nvidia card.
As for updated drivers, yes all is updated and have tried the general common solutions, the computer was bought yesterday so having a hard time understanding how this can't work properly.
Thanks in advance for any solution.

Actually there is some more questions according to your post:
1. Does the notebook display normally when it's not connected to any external monitor?
2. Where did you change the resolution when you try to bypass the issue? In Intel's graphics properties? or on TV?
3. How did you set the duplicate mode? by using Fn+F2 or WIN+P?

  • Secondary Monitor Resolution Dropped with Mavericks

After installing Mavericks (should have waited) my second monitor resolution has suddently dropped. It still claims to be 1080p but it is clearly not the same resolution as it was before and has been reduced.
    So annoying.
    Any ideas?

    Hi there,
the same for me too. I'm using an external monitor from NEC with a native resulition of 1920 x 1200.
The monitor is connected to a mac mini server from mid 2011 via HDMI.
In OSX 10.8 the OS automatically selected 1080p as the best resolution which was not correct but I could choose it manually from the list of scaled solutions.
In Mavericks the native solution of 1920 x 1200 has gone from the list. Only 1080p and 1080i are listed.
    This is very annoying.
    But:
If I activate my apple tv as a second screen (new feature in Mavericks) all resolutions that disappeared with Mavericks are here again and working fine including 1920 x 1200. As soon as I disable the second screen feature the resolutions fade away...
I just downloaded a command line tool for switching the resolution manually. This works until the machine is rebooted...
    Any tips / hints?

  • Lenovo X201 external monitor resolution issue

    Hi,
I'm having issues connecting my Lenovo X201 through the docking station -> display port -> Dell 3011.  The native resolution for the monitor is 2560x1600.  However, I currently can only set the resolution to 1920x1080 (ugly!) as any high resolution results in the monitor entering power save mode.
I'm using xrandr to set the video mode in my .xinitrc (running dwm).  This creates a good Xinerama config for dwm.
    I'm currently using the line
    xrandr --output DP1 --mode 1920x1080 --above LVDS1
to set my resolution.  When I change to --auto or --mode 2560x1600, or 1920x1200 etc I get the blank screen on the external monitor.  I'm using the xf86-video-intel-sna driver package (I tried the -uxa as well to no avail).
    Any hints?

I was able to get it by having arandr help generate the config, here's the solution that worked for me:
xrandr --output HDMI1 --off --output LVDS1 --auto --right-of DP1 --output DP1 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --auto --output VGA1 --off

  • Macbook pro and two HP 25xi monitors resolution issues

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina display purchased in 2014. I connected two HP Pavilion 25xi monitors and was having major issues where the second monitor would always be blurry and the resolution would not fit the screen so basically you could not see the border of the screen including the menu bar, sides, etc.
After troubleshooting and looking at blogs, I tried to investigate from the Monitor itself and did the following:
HP Monitor Menu > Image Control > Overscan > Turned it OFF
    ISSUE RESOLVED!!!!

    Top of the Line?
Meaning which one? I seem to recall reading somewhere it's got something to do with the RAM on the GPU???

  • 10.5.2 and Mac Pro monitor resolution issue

I installed 10.5.2 this morning from Software Update and it has now defaulted to a resolution that my LCD monitor cannot display. I can't even boot into Open Firmware, to the Mac Pro DVD, or bring up the drive selection screen (holding down Option when booting) as my LCD continues to say that it cannot support the resolution of the Mac Pro.
I had the settings set to the native resolution (1280x1024) before installing the 10.5.2 update and had all updates before the 10.5.2 update installed prior to installing it. I have reset the PRAM many times, reset the SMU, and tried connecting the LCD via both VGA (with the converter) and DVI. I plugged in an old CRT monitor and was then able to get into System Preferences but even after setting the LCD to the correct resolution and refresh rate it continues to say it is being sent an unsupported resolution. My LCD is a Samsung monitor but I don't recall the exact model number right now.
With the CRT monitor I was able to start downloaded the latest graphics update via Software Update but had to leave for work before I could install it and see if that fixed the problem.
I have seen a number of Mac Book Pro users with an external display problem after updating but was wondering if any Mac Pro users were having this problem or if anyone knows how to fix it. Thank you for your assistance.

Update: My monitor is a Samsung 913T and is less than 2 years old. I installed the driver update via Software Update but there was no change in behavior. Any CRT monitor I hook up works fine but I don't have another LCD to test. I tried reinstalling the 10.5.2 update but there was no change with that either.
I am now using Time Machine to roll back my Mac from right before I applied the 10.5.2 update. I doubt this will fix the problem as it seems to be deeper than that but I figured it was worth a try. I'll also be calling AppleCare support on Monday (hopefully they aren't closed for the federal holiday). I am still seeking any help or suggestions on this front. I don't have the money for a new monitor at this time and would really like to get my current LCD working as it was before with 10.5.1.

  • Samsung 2243BWX Monitor Resolution Issue

    Hi All
I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2243BWX monitor attached to my Mac Pro 1.1 OS X: 10.6.3 that refuses to display at its native 1680 X 1050 resolution.
System Pref incorrectly sees the display as a "SyncMas461". I've tried attaching the monitor via DVI & VGA connectors with no difference. Any advice?
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi Electronaut
I'm afraid I don't have the answer but I do have a similar problem - I also have a SyncMaster 22" (main display of a dual screen set up) - it's started to refuse to display at 1680 x 1050 when woken from sleep and reverts to a generic VGA display. Detect monitors rarely works so I restart the mac. The monitor displays correctly until the next time I have to wake it...

  • Samsung 906BW monitor resolution issues

I have plugged in a Samsung 906BW LCD monitor into my Mac Pro and it is not listing the native resolution (1440 x 900). Instead it it only listing up to 1280x1024. If anyone has ideas how to fix this that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

One last check before placing the blame with the monitor. Have you tried a new cable? It might be as simple as swapping out a bad cable.
Even if the cable is not to blame you might try switching from a DVI connection to a VGA connection or vise-versa. It might be something on one decoder or the other that is malfunctioning.
If changing the interface type does work that points to a bad monitor that you should probably get replaced if it's still under warranty. If it's not under warranty and it works one way but not the other, you might just leave it using the connection that works.

  • Monitor Resolution Issue with Windows 7

    Hi there,
I recently did a clean install of windows 7 64bit and when I hooked up my laptop (T400 - 6474 CTO) to my Samsung Syncmaster 2253bw I could not adjust the screen resolution to the monitor's native resolution of 1650x1050.
Windows only recognizes the monitor as a generic PnP monitor and the max resolution available for me to select is 1280x800.
I have used the advanced function to update my monitor drivers but I have a feeling I still don't have the right driver.  Samsung sent me to Lenovo - please help!
    Thanks!

    did you reboot?
are you extending or mirroring laptop screen? try toggling back and forth. extending should give you full res but often mirroring does not...

  • MBA and 30" LG External Monitor Resolution Issue

    Hello!
I own a LG 3000H monitor (HUGE 30" 2590x1600) that I use with my windows desktop computer for video editing and it is an amazing monitor. I wanted to use it with my Macbook Air Summer 2009 (2.13Ghz, 128GB SSD, Nvidia 9400M) as an external display. I bought the Mini-Display Port to DVI adaptor and hooked it in to the monitors DVI cable and the resolution won't go higher than 1280x800 (the same resolution as the MBA's display). I tried everything I could think of and it's not working. I called Apple Care and they didn't do crap after an hour on the phone so I was wondering if anyone here could suggest anything. I also have the Mini-Display to VGA adaptor so does anyone know if I get a VGA->DVI adaptor would that work? (because the monitor only has one Dual Link DVI slot as an input) I'd really like to use this monitor! Thanks!

    Hi,
to use the full resolution of that monitor, you have to use a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adaptor like this http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1ODY
(According to the MBA tech specs http://support.apple.com/kb/SP548 )
Using the BGA-port of that monitor will not bring up the full resolution of it.
Plus for the full resolution you have to set the display settings of the MBA to "Extended Desktop" not "Mirrored".

  • Secondary monitor graphical issues

I have hooked up my Asus LCD monitor to my 2009 MacBook Pro and I am getting some graphical issues.
When I mouse click on an open window frame to move it, the window shakes and the buttons in it shake. So for example if I open  finder window, click to drag it, all the icons and buttons inside shake.
I am connecting through hdmi, so have tried the other setting, i or p, not sure which, but that just makes the screen fuzzy.
Any ideas? Are there drivers I need?
    Thanks
    Gavin

    For me:
Time Machine is still broken.  When I "Enter Time Machine" all of my monitors go black (iMac) and the computer will not recover.  A hard reset is needed.  Any ideas?
I have no easy access to backups via TM (can get there with finder but not TM)

  • GE70 2PE - Issue with an external monitor

    Hello there,
First of all I want to apologize for my english language, since Iam from non-English speaking country.
Few days ago I just got new MSI Laptot GE70-2PE series. Iam not so experienced with using a laptops at all, I was using a desktop pc whole time.
When I actualy tried to plug in my external monitor(via HDMI), nothin happened, not even a display flashed or anythin else and monitor just show that it got no signal. So I have tried almost everythin what I found on the internet and nothing work...
While I was trying to solve the problem I have disabled a driver for Intel HD graphic and then turned it back on(while I had still plugged monitor into laptop) and suddenly my external monitor get the signal and turned on. In my humble opinion something is wrong with driver for Intel HD graphic ?
If any1 could help me I would be really happy.
    Thanks

Kind of looks like it's a problem with the Intel Driver by the looks of that thread.....    I'm not sure there is much else we can do other than the workaround that you found and the ones posted in that thread.

  • Resolution Xtra and secondary monitor

    Hi
I'm using Resolution xtra to change the resolution on my
    monitor
My PC with windows XP has 2 monitors
And when I change resolution for primary monitor, using
    function
    cSuccess =
    gResXtra.set_resolution(cResWidth,cResheight,cResMode,gResXtra.get_primary_display())
then resolution on secondary monitor is also changed. I'm not
    sure but it
can be that resolution on secondary monitor changes to some
    other dimentions
    as on primary monitors
    Any suggestions?
    Any help will be appreciated
    game_dev

    Depends ALOT...
There are graphic cards where the resolution set in the first
monitor must be equal to the second, and so the driver itself will
adjust the second one when the primary one is changed.
On windows can you set-up different resolutions? Or are the
resolutions linked up? [one way to link them is to have a "wide"
virtual monitor that some other drives allows to configure]
    Hope it helps,

  • Adjusting resolution on secondary monitor

Hi, I am trying to use a Samsung SyncMaster 2253NW LCD as a secondary monitor (via VGA). The optimal resolution for that display is 1680x1050 (same as my MacBook Pro) but the max res that I am allowed to select for the 2nd display is 1400x1050. Anything I can do?
    Thanks a lot!!

Thanks a lot for your help! You are probably right since I read somewhere else (at least for other MacBooks), that the max resolution that you can get over the VGA is 1600x1200 which is what I am getting. I have a 15 inch MacBook Pro with the high resolution screen but I don´t think this will change the max resolution that you can get over the VGA. Unfortunately, my monitor only has a VGA input so the solution might be to get another monitor with a DVI connection. Thanks again and any more advice is welcomed!!!

  • Resolution issue b/w monitors and Internet

I've been working on some night photos I took of the northern lights and I've run into an issue.  After doing my usual processing with Photoshop my pictures look the way I'd like them to on my desktop monitor.  I then do my usual Convert to Profile--Working RGB-SrGB and then Save for Web, followed by uploading them to the Internet.  When I view these particular photos on the Internet on my monitor they look awful.  The colors look grainy and unnatural and the photos have noise in the detail.   I have spent hours running them through noise filters and making other changes.  They will always look good in Photoshop and then terrible on-line.  Then I decided to view them on my iPad and found that they look good!  I don't think it's the desktop monitor resolution because they look good in Photoshop on the same monitor.  Does anyone have any idea as to why they look terrible on-line on the desktop monitor but good on my iPad?  I'm at a loss here.
    The  Profile is:
Settings: North America General Purpose 2
    RGB: sRGB
    CMYK: US Web Coated(SWOP) v2
    Gray: Dot Gain 20%
    Spot: Dot Gain 20%
    Color Management Policies:
    RGB: Preserve Embedded Profiles
    CMYK: Preserve Embedded Profiles
    Gray: Preserve Embedded Profiles
Here's an example of one of the photos:

The image posted in this thread, above, and at the smugmug link given, are both tagged with the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile.  That's fine.
    But...
The color values in the images are significantly different.  The image you posted at the smugmug.com web site is a good bit lighter than in the image posted in this thread.  That implies you either processed the image differently or reprocessed it between saving those two versions.
Specifically, redgreen2.jpg is lighter than redgreen7.jpg.
It's a bit hard to diagnose an issue when there's a moving target.
Can you describe exactly what you did between those two images?  Perhaps the problems you're seeing with differences are because of something you're inadvertently doing.  It crossed my mind that you may be looking at two different images and making the assumption that they should be the same.
