GE70 Apache pro-012 with SSD

I want to know if it's a good idea to place a samsung 840 EVO mSATA in it. Would it be a good choice.
I'm not a expert on laptops so I don't know how to place it and I really don't want to accidentally break it. Maybe you may know an European customization website with a service which does it for me?
Also I would like to know if you could do something about the heating, some people say it can get really hot.
EDIT: Didn't see it has 2 mSATA slots and not a regular one.

There should be 2 mSATA slots for Super RAID feature and you can ask MSI for the AVL list of the SSD.
Also you can ask for the service center nearby for getting an upgrade service. As I know, they will install the SSD for you and help to move the OS to SSD. Then you won't need to worry about breaking anything and also the compatibility issues.

(You can also try to google if somebody share that they're having samsung SSD on MSI notebook.)

  • Starting from scratch....New GE70 Apache Pro 012 17.3"

I want to set this up correctly from the jump. Getting it delivered this Tuesday (11/11/14). I want to utilize only games on STEAM, and edit all my videos using Roxio Creator NT Pro 2. My goal is to keep as little as possible on this device internally. Can I get a 1TB external hard drive and keep video projects, game progress, Camcorder raw videos on the external hard drive and access them when needed without these ever hitting my internal storage. Is this a good strategy and is it possible as I explained it. My reasons are based on what I have been hearing and reading over the years.....the message I'm hearing is when you load too much trash into a system it bogs down and heats up. It this how it is?

If you have too many programs running, then it's possible to have higher temperature since the loading of CPU and the graphics is high. It doesn't matter where you install the programs as long as multiple programs running at the same time.
Where you store your files has nothing to do with the bug or heat. Bugs usually comes from virus or 3rd party programs, so it doesn't really have direct connection with where you store your files or install the programs.

  • MSI GE70 Apache Pro-012 Audio Problem Crackling noise

I an having problems with my audio, there is a crackling noise every 5-10 seconds. It has been doing it since i have got the laptop 3 weeks ago. Does any one know how to fix this? I would appreciate if you could help, Thanks.

    Quote from: Superduper97;113794
Yes it happens with headphones too and I have the latest driver from Realtek. And yes I do have a Logitech wireless mouse dongle, But that makes no difference. I have also tried running it on the battery and that makes no difference either.
Try to use the audio driver from MSI website(6.0.1.7349) and check if the sound remains without any USB devices plugged.

Which movie player are you using? Change another one and see if the problem remians.
What kind of video/music files are you playing?

  • GE70 Apache Pro-012 system error

    Hello,
I bought this computer not that long ago and I am having problems with it. The machine will just sit on the MSI logo and won't boot up or allow me to access bios or recovery. Furthermore, it refuses to POST. After some time it attempts to recover and then pops up with a BSOD that provides a 0xc0000814 error message that says something like a required device cannot be read or is missing. I also hear the sound of a cord rattling inside of it (I bet that is my SATA cable However, I read that you can change components by removing the warranty sticker as long as you don't ruin anything related to the device. Therefore, I have some questions.
    1. Do you think it would be the HDD causing this issues?
    2. Do you have any ideas that may fix the problem?
    3. Would I void my warranty if I opened the back up just to replace the HDD with a known working HDD?
I just don't want to go through all of the trouble of sending it in to MSI if it's a simple fix. I really need my laptop for school.
    Thank you.

Most of the country that sells MSI laptop is allowed to remove the warranty sticker and change the key parts, but you have better to call the local service center for the exactly answer.

  • Some Questions I Have About the GE70 Apache Pro

    Hi Y'all,
I'm new here to the MSI Community and am looking to make my first purchase of a MSI Notebook.   I'm looking at the new GE 70 Apache Pro because of the budget I have to work with thanks to having to go out and spend $6K to get my car fixed( but that's another story for a whole other day and a whole other online forum).   I also have a ton of other gear that I carry with me on a daily basis so weight is critical to me.  Forgive me because this is going to be my first real experience with Solid State Drives so if I ask something that seems stupid or dumb I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to them.   I'm purchasing the Samsung 840 Evo 120GB mSata SSD, yes I would love to go out and get a bigger capacity SSD but again have to think of the budget, and I understand the basics of doing the actual physical installation into the computer itself but am a little unclear about certain things.
         1.    How do I get the OS installation onto the SSD itself?
         2.    Do I have to do anything special in the BIOS to get the computer to recognize the SSD?
         3.    As far as the recovery partition goes should I leave that on the actual mechanical hard drive or transfer that to the SSD as well?
I'm looking at the Apache Pro 012 with the 4th Gen i7 4700, 12 GB DDR3, 1 TB 7200RPM HD, and the Nvidia GTX 860M.   Yes I would have loved to have purchased a top of the line GT Dominator Series laptop with all of this work already done for me, but the budget wouldn't allow me to do so.   I don't do all that much as far as gaming goes.   I play World of Warplanes and World of Tanks and that's as far as my gaming experience goes.   I mainly use my machines for doing amatuer photography and working with Visual Studio and other App Development IDE's so as far as the Apache Pro goes I feel it will be the best fit for me inside my budget.   Any assistance y'all can offer me would be greatly appreciated and I want to thank you all in advance for your help.

    1. How do I get the OS installation onto the SSD itself?
Burn and prepare MSI Recovery DVDs, then:
Disconnect/remove your HDD, and leave the mSata SSD installed only.
Then use the burned recovery DVDs to restore it over the SSD.
Once you can boot your OS from the SSD and restore is complete,
install again your HDD, and adjust boot prioroty 1st boot: SSD
Or other options is to do a new fresh OS install on the SSD, instead using MSI's recovery disks,
    other steps are the same.

    3. As far as the recovery partition goes should I leave that on the actual mechanical hard drive or transfer that to the SSD as well?
On your original HDD leave everything as is, don't format it and don't  change defaults partition configuration, ie: leave it as is.
By that way you will preserve the stock configuration and will have extra backup of urgent cases:
After your OS is setup on you SSD, you can boot from your HDD,
and to make OS image backup of your system partition [or assume will be one 128GB partition of your SSD]
and to create backup image, you can do this with Acronis True image or similar.
By this way if you have OS failure [installed on SSD], or SSD failure,
you can always boot your original config by pressing F11 and choose HDD,
then to use Acronis to restore the last know working by desired way OS backup over the SSD,
    or over the new SSD

Now to test the system with the latest high demand games! We tested the system with crysis 3, metro last light, assassin's creed IV and battlefield 4. All these games require very high spec systems and are great for testing; we tested them on max settings and also on Nvidia’s optimized settings for each game. Nvidia has made it easy to optimize the settings to get the best performance possible out of the notebook with the GeForce experience! You can auto-optimize game settings for best performance and tweak them if you want better graphics or better frame rate.
    The result are as follows:
Crysis 3 maxed out ran at an average of 20-30 FPS and with Nvidia’s optimized settings it ran at an average of 55-65 FPS.
Metro last light maxed out ran at an average of 30-40 FPS and with Nvidia’s optimized settings it ran at an average of 50-60 FPS.
Assassin’s creed IV maxed out ran at an average of 30-40 FPS and with Nvidias optimized settings it ran at an average of 35-45 FPS.
Battlefield 4 maxed out ran at an average of 35-45 FPS and with Nvidia’s optimized settings it ran at an average of 50-60 FPS.
All round great results from some of the highest demanding games on the market, it shows that the GE70 is capable of keeping up with your gaming needs while still being a portable, slim and light notebook.

  • [Solved] Apache pro-012 Europe

Like the topic says, any idea if the apache pro-012 is available in Europe?

These model are sell already from 2 or 3 month in Europe, if you are from Belgium (yeah we win yesterday ^^)  you can check with your dealer or online website but be carefull about some online shop like for example LDLC.be, they sell the notebook from France, not for Belgium market, so one important difference for you, the keyboard, Belgium and France don't share same keyboard, almost everything are the same but some special key change, for example the "@", on Belgium keyboard are on key "2" but on France keyboard are on key "0".
Not a big deal but better to know it

  • Looking for Custom BIOS for Laptop *MSI GE70 Apache Pro 061* Win 8.1 64

I installed two G Skill Ripjaws 8GB 2133 Mhz Ram chips into my Apache Pro laptop. The speeds only show up as 1000 Mhz. I am trying to get a custom BIOS so I can make the necessary changes to that will allow my memory to run up to speed. Can anyone out there help me out with this? Thanks.

Thanks, Nichrome. However, the price difference between 1600 Mhz and 2133 Mhz was not much at all. I've future proofed myself if I decide to upgrade the CPU or even get a better laptop down the road. These ram sticks should at least be backwards compatible to 1600 Mhz, but still I'm not able to make it run at that speed. I'm still going to need a custom BIOS to make those changes. I appreciate the reponse, nonetheless.

  • What is the real Weight on Macbook Pro 13'' with SSD Disks!

    Hi all,
I think that there is some weight difference between Macbook Pro with and without SSD disk. Isn't?
With normal SATA disk it have 2kg. How many kg with SSD disk???
    Tks,
    Paulo

If there is it would only amount to a few ounces.

  • MSI GE70 Apache Pro 0-61 msata SSD

    Hello guyz,
I have recently ordered the above mentioned MSI laptop. As it does not come with an ssd. So i thought of adding one to it. After searching google i found that an msata ssd can be added to this model. I wanted to confirm here on the official msi forum. I am thinking of buying a Samsung Evo 840 msata ssd 250gb for this upgrade. Can you please confirm will this ssd be compatible with this laptop model ? and is it ok if i install a new OS (windows 8.1) on the new ssd for booting purpose and not deleting the old OS. Lastly please do confirm if the laptop has an extra msata ssd slot . As i have still not received the laptop so thought of ordering an msata to use it with. Waiting for your replies Thankyou

The GE70 should come with 2 mSATA sockets (I believe), assuming that there is none installed already.
Yes, the Samsung 840 EVO should work fine. (95% sure about that)
I would use the MSI Burn Recovery disks that you NEED TO MAKE when you first setup your notebook (I HIGHLY SUGGEST MAKING THESE) to reinstall Windows onto the SSD. I would remove your OLD HDD and install the SSD and then use those recovery disks to install the OS.

  • Mac Pro 2009 with SSD Problems since mavericks

I am having constant problems with my mac pro early 2009 since Mavericks. It is a standard mac pro but now has a crucial m500 ssd as the main drive.
I originally put a OWC 120gb SSD in then changed it for a 240gb OWC SSD as I blamed the SSD for my problems. Then recently I blamed OWC so bought a crucial SSD but still having all the same problems.
My list of problems (these happen 20+ times per day) I'm a web designer so use a lot of browsers and use the computer for 9+ hours per day:
Firefox is used as main browser. Every so often pages load but without loading the style sheet shortly followed by pages not loading at all. Then if I type an address and hit return it does nothing. Then opening Chrome pages work for a couple of seconds then that stops working too. Sometimes FF and Chrome don't work but safari does sporadically.
Chrome is unusable really as it crashes all the time.
During all these events, if I open certain apps (randomly) e.g. openeing system prefs it will 'fail to open' and show the crash report and reopen option which just continues with another crash report. At this stage a reboot is essential
Possibly related...if I wake computer from sleep, it takes about 5-8 seconds before I can do anything. I can see everything, move mouse etc... but if I try and click on an open tab it won't work until I wait about 8 seconds.
I don't think it is sleep related though as these browser problems happen after a reboot and no sleep. Hard disk is set to never sleep.
Here is a recent system prefs crash report.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • MBP Pro 2011 with SSD ... No Power-Nap on Mountain Lion?

    Hi,
I have bought my MBP last summer with an 256GB SSD. But after installing Mountain Lion I don't find the Power-Nap feature? Will this be available for my MBP in the future?

it is because those computer have special built in batteries that Apple designed for efficiency. Those can probably know when to receive emails and when to sleep while the other ones might require a different switch.
Or it's just that apple wants you to get new hardware to have the new feature
In either case, your computer is not supported for this feature.
