GEARAspiWDM.sys on Windows Vista

I have installed iTunes 7.0.2 under the latest RC of Windows Vista x64 and I'm getting the following error in the event viewer:
\SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\GEARAspiWDM.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.
Is there any fix for this? Anything planned for upcoming releases?

Check you are using a version of the client that works ok on Vista (5.0.02.0090). Then turn off the firewalls and confirm that these are causing your problem. If it still does not work then look at the config on the vpn router/firewall/concentrator. Could be missing routes back to the subnet allocated to the client. There are many reasons for it not to work ;-)

  • SYSTEM and SYS password 11g on Windows Vista

    Hello
I am having trouble. I do not know my SYSTEM and SYS passwords. I am using oracle 11g on windows vista. I tried to change the passwords but that did not work. I tried this:
    c:/>sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
    c:/>show user
    c:/>passw system
then I changed the password. When I tried to log in the password change did not take effect. Any help would be great!

    Hi,
There is no default password for sys and system in 11g.
you cna use the below command to change the system or sys password
alter user SYSTEM identified by PASWORD
    same for sys
    nOTE: password are case sensitive.Regards,

  • Windows Vista 64 bit crcdisk.sys

    Hi all -
Microsoft automatically downloaded some Vista upgrades to my T61, and now it won't boot.  Instead it goes into an infinite loop mode:  BSOD-->bootup options page-->BSOD-->bootup options page-etc.-etc.-etc..  Googling suggests that this is not an uncommon problem, with all sorts of laptop brands, and that the problem isn't with the HDD.  However, I didn't find anything specific to Lenovo laptops, so I thought I'd ask here.
Attempts to boot in Safe mode stop as it's trying to load crcdisk.sys.  I've not installed any new hardware/software/drivers/etc., so I really think the downloaded 'upgrades' somehow mucked things up.
Booting with the WIndows Vista DVD & trying to repair any errors didn't work, but I was able to get to the System Restore page.  Is this my only option?  I've installed some software since my last complete system backup, and I'd prefer not to have to do the download/reinstall thing., but if this is the only way to get at the data I've created since my last backup (two weeks ago), well, that's what I'll do.  If it works... : )
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Eric

This is something i found in another forum so all the credit to the original author if it will solve your poblem.
I just had this issue happen this morning and was able to at least get to safe mode. Here's what happened:
1.) This morning my Acer Aspire 5610Z was sitting there showing the green bar animation continuously. I hadn't manually updated anything, but have it set to auto-update at 3:00am.
2.) Safe mode didn't work, it kept getting stuck on crcdisk.sys.
3.) To fix it, I rebooting in Safe Mode. When it got stuck on crcdisk.sys, instead of powering down by holding power button for 4 secs, I pressed it once for a restart instead. The hard drive came back to life, and after some activity, it restarted.
4.) This time, following POST, I chose Safe Mode with Command Prompt, with the intention of renaming crcdisk.sys to see if Vista would restore it. As it turned out, it ended up continuing the boot and brought me to the update screen, saying that I was in "Stage 3 of 3" with some update, and was 10% complete!
5.) Apparently this was a mandatory Vista security upgrade that system consumed like normal, but something went haywire during the update process. Once I was back in Windows, I restarted the update and was able to successfully complete it, and my system is back to normal.
Could you give it a try and let us know if it works or not?
    -gan

  • Issue with GEAR Software CD/DVD Drivers + Windows Vista Beta 2 (build 5384)

I am using Windows Vista Beta 2 (Build 5384), and yes I know Vista is NOT officially supported by iTunes yet. However, iTunes installs and works ok for me, except that there is an issue with the GEAR Software drivers that it installs (used for cd burning and importing). The issue is that the driver (GEARAspiWDM.sys) is not compatible with Windows Vista. Normally this would not be an issue; I would just use a different program to create audio cd's. The issue is that the drive makes both my DVD-Rom and my DVD/CD-RW drive disappears (they are still listed in the device manager, but they have driver errors, code 39).
So I was wondering if anyone in Mac/Apple land knows of a way to disable/uninstall the GEAR drivers so I can still use iTunes?
And yes I did search the GEAR Software support page, but could not find an appropriate solution.
    Thank you.
    Chuck Stewart

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • ITunes installation made CD/DVD drive dissapear for Windows Vista

Ok, so I got a new PC last week with Windows Vista. Everything had been working just fine until today (or today I realized)that Vista stopped recognizing my CD/DVD drive. After several hours I found that the problem was caused by iTunes and some GEAR software/drivers that it uses for burning CDs. So I logged on to GEAR's website to D/L the latest drivers, installed them, but still nothing happened. I then unistalled them, rebooted and still the same... Finally, I removed manually this GEAR thing, rebooted, and my CD/DVD drive was visible and accesible again. The problem is that now iTunes cannot burn CDs because it can´t find the GEAR software.
So this is a catch-22 situation: If I uninstall and re-install iTunes, I will not be able to see my CD/DVD drive, and if I remove these GEAR stuff, then I can see it but iTunes will not burn anything!!!!
For now I´ve decided to stay like this because at least I can use some other apps to burn CDs, and I can still sync my iPod, but I would like to have a solution for this.
Anybody has seen this same problem?

  • Windows Vista Home + iTunes = no DVD drives

I am a long time iTunes user, and have been having an issue with iTunes for the last little while. When I install iTunes (I'm on Windows Vista 32 bit, by the way), after the required restart, my DVD drives' icons disappear (I have 2 of them). I can see the DVD drives in the Device Manager, and they say they cannot start. The only I think I've had these problems since about iTunes 7.0, but I don't burn CDs that often, so I've really not felt too bad about it, except that my wife would like to do so. I've done the registry change where you remove the upper and lower filters, which corrects the drive issue, but then presents the seemingly inevitable Registry issue dialog box, without the option to burn CDs. Here are the steps I've done thus far to try to get my computer and iTunes to play nicely:
    1. Tried reenabling the UpperFilter for GearAspiWDM as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305422
    2. Tried downloading new GEAR drivers from their website.
    3. Tried uninstalling Quicktime, and then installing it separately.
    4. Uninstalled my other music service software (SonicStage), and then reinstalling iTunes.
    5. Completely uninstalled iTunes, and then reinstalled it (a couple of iTunes versions ago).
    6. Tried uninstalling the non-functioning DVD drives in the device manager, and then scanning for hardware changes. When the UpperFilter was still present, this part failed. It passed after I removed the UpperFilter registry entry.
    Please help!

  • Can't find drivers for ipod nano 8GB for windows vista HELP

I am trying to find the drivers for my ipod nano 8GB. I am running Windows Vista on my laptop. I have tried absolutely everything listed on this webpage and others. I have removed itunes and reinstalled it and still nothing. I downloaded usbstor.sys and usbstor.inf. I have gone into my computer and clicked on the ! next to my ipod in file manager and have gotten nowhere! This has been 5 days of frustration. I don't understand why apple would not just SUPPLY the software for the nano. I am beyond frustrated now. Can someone please help...

Something is going on with your Nano if Vista doesn't see it anymore. Did you use device manager and try to uninstall your Nano? Perhaps this will work. Once uninstalled, the next time you plug it in, Vista will see the Nano as a new device and install the proper USB drivers.
I'm not on my Vista computer right now...but here's an article to help you find device manager in Vista: http://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=5183

Is there any way to get iTunes to work on Windows Vista 64 bit? If not is Apple developing a version that will work in Windows Vista 64 bit?
    Thanks,

For a chance I tried in this way and (strange but true) it works:
I installed Quick Time alone (the 7.3 release), then iTunes, and this time no problem at all at the start up of both the programs.
Finally I installed the gear software driver and no warning message appear in iTunes.

  • Missing CD/DVD drive after installing iTunes w/ Windows Vista

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 laptop. The problem I am having is when I install iTunes my CD/DVD drive disappears. The drive is listed in the device mananger but it is corrupt ( yellow triangle). I can restore the drive by going back to system restore before iTunes was installed. It was sugested by Toshiba that I wait for the Windows Vista/ iPod fix. It has been sometime and there has been no word of a fix. I just bought my laptop in march and my iPod last month and I can not use it unless I load all of music one time and do a systems restore and loose it. It has become very fustrating as all the hot fixes do not apply to Vista but XP. I really need some support from someone. Microsoft charges 95 bucks a hour ( I think) and Toshiba says it is a Apple/Windows problem.
    Thanks-

Here is the Diagnostics for my drive. I want to make a correction to my last post. I am only showing lower filters in the Redgit.

  • Burned CD yesterday, can not burn today.  Error 4280 - Windows Vista

Yesterday, I bought a number of tracks and albums from the iTunes store. Before I purchased them, I created a test CD with some tracks I already ripped from CDs I own. I burned this CD through iTunes. All seemed well.
I bought my music. After, I also backed up my purchases using iTunes. Still, all seemed well.
Today, I tried to create audio CD with the tracks I purchased from the iTunes store. It did not work.
It seems that the error (4280) comes up a lot, but in relation to Sony drives. My drive is not made by Sony.
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

Error while opening iTunes CD driver. This could be caused by a corrupted iTunes file or a conflict with other older CD burning applications, either currently installed or previously installed and uninstalled incorrectly.
what has been working for folks with the 2380s on 64-bit systems (it can hit XP too) has been reinstalling the 64-bit version of the GEAR drivers that iTunes uses for burning and importing.
GEAR drivers are available from the following page. (note that there are two different 64-bit versions. be sure to get the one that matches your hardware.)

  • Importing CD's into itunes with windows vista

I am having some trouble importing my cd's into itunes. When I insert the cd, it it recognized, and gives me the option to import. When I click yes, it imports the entire cd in about 5 seconds. When I go to play the songs added to my library, they are all 1 second long, and no sound plays. It also does the same thing when i try to play the song directly from the cd. It just goes from track to track every second.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, and still get the same problem. It is not my DVD drive, as the same cds import and play in windows media player. I am running windows vista home premium. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Can't Burn CD's with iTunes in Windows Vista x64

Last night I attempted to create an MP3 CD as well as an Audio CD but every time I tried to iTunes popped up a messaging saying that I didn't have a disc or burning software to complete that action. I know there was a disc in there, and iTunes even recognized a blank disc when it was inserted. Is there a problem with burning cds with iTunes in the 64 bit version of Vista??
