  • Firefox and gecko media player crashing

Hi, first post in the forum, hoping someone might know what is happening here.
Whenever I try to play a video in firefox using gecko media player, firefox crashes.
    The output in xterm is:
    $ NPP_New called
process 2911: arguments to dbus_connection_get_data() were incorrect, assertion "connection != NULL" failed in file dbus-connection.c line 5758.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace
    [1]+ Aborted firefox
I am running firefox (Gran Paradiso) version 3.0.10, and Gecko Media Player 0.9.5.
An example of the videos I am trying to play are here: http://www.rte.ie/news/
    Any help appreciated, thanks.

Ya, I might just switch to mplayer plugin. That worked ok for me in my last distro (ubuntu). Gecko seems fairly good though, it's a pity. Google doesn't give much help either.

  • GXine and the Gecko Media Player Plug-in

If you're running gXine and certain things like Apple trailers or videos from NASA aren't working, this is what you do. This was only tested using very recent snapshots of Xine, gXine and Firefox.
Grab the gecko-mediaplayer folder from ABS (community-->multimedia). Remove the 'gnome-mplayer' dependency, build and install. Then simply rebuild gXine and install. Order is important here. As far as I can tell the plug-in has to be built and installed after gecko-mediaplayer is installed in order for Firefox to get this right. This also works to a degree with the xine-plugin. By a degree I mean that Apple trailers work, but the stuff at NASA doesn't. It's also useful to note here that it doesn't work with totem-xine and the totem-plugin.
I did notify the developers of Gecko Media Player. It would be so cool if it worked as a Xine plug-in without the hack.

Thanks for the link. Tried it, but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. It only removed the pop-up message and left a blank field in the browser window where the video clip was supposed to be.

  • Windows Media Player and OS X - No sound

    Hi,
I am running OS 10.4.3 on an iMac 20" 1.8. I have the latest version (9) of Windows Media Player and have been using it fine for the last while for times that I can't use anything else. Suddenly, last week it would not play audio on any of the video clips I have. When I launch a WMV file, the player gives me the message:
"This file may not play correctly because it was compressed with a codec that is not supported".
These are the same files that played fine last week, and still play fine on my MacMini. I have deleted WMP and reinstalled it. I have deleted all preference files that I could find and the WMP codec file in the Library/internet plugin folders, and re-istalled again. No luck. I keep getting the message and the file plays with no audio.
Any suggestions from some of you wise Mac users out there?
    Thanks,
    Tyler

    This should fix the problem:

What you can do is to go to music player then click options and then exit...
    hope this helps.

  • Apple TV as a media player and karaoke

I am thinking to get one as my media player and karaoke, can I switch audio from stereo to left or right mono? What format does it play? Quicktime only? Thanks

Here are the specs you asked for...
    http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html
As far as playing only the left or right, you'll have to have your audio system or TV take care of that balance, assuming you don't want to unplug anything.

  • Safari, Windows Media Player, and Proxy Servers

I'm trying to watch streaming video of comedy central's Daily Show but its not working. I hit play and I get "-19422" in the play bar. I can't find anything about this anywhere online. I used to be able to do play these videos on my old computer but have had no success. It has to be in Windows Media Player format. I have Windows Media Player and have streamed from other sites. The only thing I have found is that the comedy central page requires a proxy to view streamng video. I have contacted my ISP and they say no such proxy is needed and I should be able to view the page. Am I suppose to guess on the proxy server? The comedy central site says it supports safari and apple computers but it doesn't seem like it. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any ieas for solving this problem?
PS- This is what comedy central says.... Also my ISP is Time Warner Cable's RoadRunner
"If you are on a Mac, make sure your Player is set to only use the proxy, and disable TCP or UDP checking as this will cause timeouts.
If you choose the Use proxy option and do not know the proxy server name or port number you should use, contact your Internet service provider or network administrator. "

    Hi,
The videos work fine for me with Safari 2.0.2 and OS X 10.4.3. The section of the help file you quoted appears to be referring to a corporate firewall setup rather than a typical home setup - you shouldn't need to change any of the defaults for Windows Media Player.
A Google search for that error code you received mentions Flip4Mac in a couple of places - do you have that installed?
If so, try disabling it to see if that is the cause of your issues.

Will you be so kind to tell me where I have to look? Because I am no expert. Or is it possible that I have to activate anything in PE? It is first time that I will work with PE 9.
Further information: The original sound of the Mini-DVD is 5:1 surround. After first problem I have changed Nero to export in Stereo, but this did not solve the problem.

  • Want to download information but tries to do it in media player and says not possible, want to change setting but how???

When I try to read an internet document in PDF or another format it tries to read it in Media Player and then says it's not possible. This means I cannot access information I need. I looked at every Menu I can, including Help and cannot change this setting. Please help me, I've obviously inadvertently chosen this option and now can't unchoose it. Please help me, it's very frustrating!!

Thank you. Actually I stumbled across that solution myself last night, really not having a clue but browsing through all the drop down menus and did what you said. The only option that seems to work is if I use Internet Explorer. Haven't downloaded any documents yet, but hopefully it will work next time.

  • Playing back Recorded TV Programs using Windows Media Player and only hearing Sound from Front Speakers

    Hi All,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Service Pack 1 with Windows Media Player 11 installed.
When I click on one of my Recorded TV Programs to watch and hear, I can only hear the Sound coming from the Front Speakers.
When I right-click on the Program and open it up in Real Player Cloud. I can indeed watch the program and hear Clear Sound coming from all 5 Speakers plus the Subwoofer.
What setting do I change to use Windows Media Player and have sound coming from all 5 Speakers and the Subwoofer?
    Thank you!

    Hi Andreas,
    Thanks for the reply.
The link you put up, takes me to the page, but
"The requested URL /surround/www_lynnemusic_com_surround_test.wma was not found on this server."
    That was WaterFox.
    The webpage cannot be found
    This in Internet Explorer 11.0
The Files in question were Recorded by Beyond TV to my Local Hard Drive.
When I open the recording in Real Player Cloud, installed on my computer, not streaming over the Internet, I hear it correctly played.
When I use Windows Media Player, nothing can be heard from the Rear Speakers.
Speakers and Hardware are working fine.

  • Windows Media player and flash player conflicting

    Hello,
I have a problem with watching streams (television programs)
on the internet. I think this is caused by conflicting roles of
windows media player and flash player. When i don't have installed
flash player i can watch the streams. When i install flash player,
i see only green and red blocks on the respective screen. I don't

I hope you could really help me,

    Hi Tuncie
Verify that Windows Media Player is not set as the default
player for all content in Firefox including Flash.
Also, please respond with a URL for testing.

  • Safari opens with a pop-up 'update media player' and starts to download it.

    Mid 2010 iMac 8Gb memory. OSX 10.9.5.
Each time I open Safari a pop-up appears telling me to update the media player and asks me to click OK. the progress bar shows it is trying to download it from kgezz.easyddl.hairdreer.xyz. I quit Safari asap. General info from searches (in Firefox!) shows media player updates are used to put Trojans or other malicious control software in place.
What is the best course to take? I feel I should remove Safari and all files associated with it so it can be reinstalled but CleanMyMac2 doesn't list Safari in the programmes that can be removed completely and I'm aware just dragging the app to Trash doesn't remove all associated files, which may be causing this problem.

    1.Quit Safari.
Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.
    2. Delete Cookies
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
        Click “Remove All Website Data”.
    3. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn off Extensions if any and launch Safari again to test.
Turn on those one by one and test.

Nothing untoward happening here. The only problem I see once in a while is in the gallery. It tends to take it's time populating the thumbnails once in a while.
What brand MicroSD are you using?

  • Can I have my itunes play on my windows media player, and on an MP3 player?

I have a library of music, videos etc on windows media player and am comfortable using it, so my question is can I export my itunes to play on media player.
I also have several MP3 players, and would like my itunes to play on them. Everything I read on itunes if about iphones and ipods, and macs. I have just an old cell phone, MP3 players, and a PC?

Yes. Use the iTunes command File > Add Folder to Library and point it to the folder where the music is stored. Start with one folder so you can see how it works. iTunes will add whatever is compatible.

iTunes is only designed to sync Apple devices. However, the songs in your iTunes library can be used for other purposes. Follow the instructions that came with your player.
