Gefoce 8800 GT (Mac Edition) for Gamers???

So...If buy a Geforce 8800 GT (Mac Edition) in a bootcamp partition with Vista x64 i can get the best performance for games like crysis, gears of war and more.....??????
And can i use SLI mode on this card???
Cause I was planning to build up a PC only for GAMES.......
Thanks!

I had a hard time getting bootcamp to partition it the way I wanted to.
What I actually did was I used Disk Utilities, partitioned it the way I wanted it. I had a 250GB HD (~232GB formatted), I have 80 GB for Windows XP, 100 GB for Windows Vista, the rest as a FAT32 data drive (if I want to transfer data between the two operating system, or a data partition for the two to be able to read). At first I tried 100GB for both Vista and XP but I got confused not knowing which one was which when I wanted to install, that's the reason for the difference in size, use whatever you wish. Make sure when you partition it with Disk utility, all the partitions you want Windows to be able to use is "MS-DOS" (which is FAT32). Windows Vista will need to reformat it to NTFS but you must format it as MS-DOS in Disk Utilities first.
You do not need to run Boot Camp assistant to get Windows on your system. After disk utility finished partitioning to your desire, restart your MP and hold down the option key. Select the windows installation CD. After you finished installing windows and it reboots, it might take you to OS X again. Just make sure when you reboot it again, hold down the option key, now it will show you another hard drive saying Windows.
The tricky part when installing is knowing which partition to install on. For Windows XP, the hard drives spaces are listed as MB, rather than GB.
When you have installed multiple windows (XP and Vista), if you hold down the option key, you will only see: Macintosh HD (hard drive), Windows (hard drive), and any other bootable disc you have. If you select the Windows (hard drive), it will go to a black screen for a few seconds, then it gives you the windows boot option (DOS-style), you get 30 seconds to select Windows Vista or "Older version of Windows" (which is XP).
I cannot confirm this but you need to install XP first, then Vista. As Vista is a more "later" version of Windows, it knows not to overwrite the boot-sector of XP.
To install the hardware drivers, just put in your MP restore disc 1 and run the setup.exe file, it has all the drivers for your system.
I'm sure there are better guides to help you by searching Google, but this is what I know.

  • New GTX-7xx / Titan Mac Edition for cMP?

Now that the 2010-2012 Mac Pro's 5.1 have been 'replaced' by the 2013 New Mac Pro 6.1, but there still are thousands of high-end users demanding more and more GPU power in their MP 5.1, I wonder if NVIDIA / EVGA will market a new "GTX-7xx / Titan Mac Edition". The last model is the GTX-680 2GB Mac Edition which is over one year old.
Any insiders in the business here that would like to share their insights?

You have to ask a different set of questions:  does it make financial sense for nVidia to bother engineering a down-clocked Titan reference card that can deal with the reduced power available in the Mac Pro?  Will they sell enough of them to make it worth their effort?  And how much effort would that actually take?

  • ATI Radeon X800 XT or ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Mac Edition for 30" display

I currently have the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro installed in my G5 2.0 DP and it is running my 30" display, but I am having some isssues when I play DVD's the pictures seems to skip every few seconds like it isn't playing fast enough, or it hesitates. I bought the ATI Radeon X800 XT and wanted to know if that would be a better card before I switch it out.

The X800 is a faster card but DVD playback doesn't put much load on the card, so the X800 probably won't help. If it skipping on more than one DVD, the DVD drive is probably having problems. Cleaning the lens ay help.

  • Radeon 9200 PCI Mac Edition not working properly

I recently purchased a Radeon 9200 PCI mac edition for my G3 B&W on ebay but it doesn't seem to like my B&W. It displays fine but refuses to load the driver and makes OS 9.2.2 freeze upon booting. I already have the latest drivers for it (january 2005 update). I haven't seen any similar issue around the net. Here is my B&W specs:
It has a G4 400mhz from the Yikes! running at 450MHz with voltage tweak help and 3 additinal fans attached to the heatsink (which is also original from the Yikes!).
    1GB RAM
    80GB + 40GB HDs
    2x Voodoo2 8mb cards running in SLI.
    ADB Keyboard + Mouse
removing the Voodoo2 did not fix this. I currently use a Radeon 7000 64MB PC flashed to Mac which works out of the box and share the same drivers. I don't have OS X installed. Please help, I don't know what to do anymore.

    Try this driver update (again):
    ATI OS9 RADEON Update.zip
If you have an older mac w/G4 CPU upgrade (beige G3 or older for instance), for years there's been reports of conflicts (boot hangs, etc.) with ATI OS 9.x extensions (graphics accelerator extension IIRC) and cache enablers. Renaming extensions (space or tilde first letter) to change load order may help. For OS 9.x users, install the 9200 OS 9 drivers before installing the card. Also there's been several problem reports from older macs w/PCI IDE cards or SCSI PCI cards and the 9200 PCI card,

  • Advice Please for Sapphire HD 7950  Mac Edition Video Card

    Hello.
    I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro (5,1).
Was wondering if anyone out there in 'Mac Land' has had personal experience with the
Sapphire HD 7950  Mac Edition Video Card?
    In particular:
    Did you install it yourself?
Did you have any issues  after installing?
Does it live up to its hype?
Do you think it was worth the price?
Will it freak out when using BootCamp?
I'm thinking about upgrading from the installed HD 5870 card.
I run BootCamp with Windows 8 and Windows 7. My current Mac OS is 10.9.5.
    Thanks for your help.

Dear Paul S, John B here. I have a 2008 Mac Pro, single Quad Core-not state of the art  at all. I bought my sapphire radeon HD 7950 to replace an nVidia 8800, so that I could play Bio shock infinite on Steam. Yes, I installed it myself, it's a piece of cake.  I had no issues after installing. Some have...might have been that gpu switch on the side was defective, but not for me. to the right for mac, left for PC, as far as I know.  As for the hype, can't say.  It does the job quite well.  I now have a Mac that can use Display Port and HDMI for output rather than DVI (very handy for buying monitors- you can use a small LCD tv as one). I guess it was worth the price, to me it was, anyway.  I learned my lesson on older graphics cards: when they go, try to not have a fit, and see if you can replace them with something a bit better, and don't take your Mac in to your local Fruit PC store, cuz they don't have a clue about such things, and the Fruit PC company's policy is to replace like with like-period.  You can ask them to, but they won't put a better video card into your Mac Pro, even though you are willing to pay the difference to upgrade. Also, you are on their turf, so you will be paying their prices for that old video card. $360 for an 8800GT mac version? I don't think so, at least not again ! Freak out with Bootcamp? I don't think so.  I've never used it with bootcamp, but I did mention the switch, so I think you're covered there.  Maybe you'd have to download and install Windows drivers for that card but that's be about it.  You might try MacVidCards.com
but that's a crapshoot, as PC cards flashed to work with Mac may be.
    just my 2 cents

If your serial number is listed as being valid at http://www.adobe.com/ then I would recommend obtaining a fresh copy of the installation files.  You can find details on how to locate your serial number at Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
To download a fresh copy of the installation files please see Download CS6 products.

  • Re-installing Photoshop CS5 Extended Student and Teacher Edition (for Mac)?

How can I download and re-install Photoshop CS5 Extended Student and Teacher Edition (for Mac) for which I have a licence?  I lost the previous version in a disk crash.  I tried downloading the full Photoshop CS5 installer, but I was told I couldn't run the installer because I didn't have permission.
    Thanks,

  • Does 10.5.6 Support Dual displays for Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition cards?

Does 10.5.6 Support Dual displays for Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition cards?
And is there driver updates for anyone using the all-in-ones HP printers...has anyone been able to use their scanners since the update? and has the dual screen support been added to avoid the blue screen on startup?

The ATI Radeon 9600 PC/Mac edition 256 MB should work in the MDD G4. It has two DVI ports (one is dual-link and can support a 30" display). You will need adapters for ADC displays.

  • Can I replace an ATI RADEON 9800 PRO-(256MB)-MAC EDITION with Mac ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb Video Card For G4/G5

    Hi,
I am trying to help a friend whose graphics card has bust.
The old one was an ATI RADEON 9800 PRO-(256MB)-MAC EDITION.
I've been looking on ebay and it seems a lot cheaper to get a Mac ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb Video Card For G4/G5.
Can I just swap them over?  The connectors are not identical according to the photographs.
    Thanks.

I'd like to thank everyone for all the really useful information in this thread. It helped me solve a similar problem, which I'll describe here briefly in case it helps someone else.
I have a 2004/5 dual 2 Ghz PowerPC G5 and an Apple Cinema HD display linked, as I later found out, with the now defunct ADC connector. The display suddenly started to look like that scene in The Matrix, when code falls like rain down the screen, and I worked out I needed to replace my Radeon 9800 pro video card (I discovered the board was blue when I removed a thick layer of dust).
I took japamac's excellent advice and bought a Geforce 6800 Ultra from the linked eBay seller in Hong Kong, who delivered it extremely quickly, along with the cables to plug it into the DVD drive power source and a CD with installation instructions. It was only then that I realised the card had two DVI connectors and my display needed ADC (I hadn't understood the difference).
eBay came to the rescue again with a seller who had a secondhand DVI to ADC adapter, which Apple produced  when it phased out ADC about six years ago but no longer sells. It has its own power supply and looks like a large version of the Mac laptop power cables - and has added signifcantly to the pile of spaghetti under my desk.
Installing the Geforce 6800 Ultra is fiddly, and a bit scary if you're not used to delving into the insides of a Mac, but the instructions were clear and illustrated with useful photos. The video cable has four connectors. Two fit into the end of the card, the other two (linked in a Y shape) form a bridge between the DVD/superdrive and its power cable. You have to remove the DVD drive, unplug it, and then plug one of the two Y video card connectors into the DVD power cable and the other into the DVD drive itself. Then you replace the DVD drive, plug the two remaining cable connectors to the video card and ease it into the old card's AGP slot.
Finally, with the G5 reassembled, plug the adapter's DVI connection into the back of the card, plug the Cinema Display ADC cable into the adapter block, plug the adapter's USB cable into the G5 (this enables the the USB ports on the back of the display to work), and power up.
At the time of writing, the display has been up and running for a couple of hours and all seems fine.
Thanks again everyone for all your help and advice. If it wasn't for communities like this, it would be virtually impossible to solve problems with old but still serviceable Macs.

  • Why is the download "Not applicable" for my online purchase of Adobe Captivate 8 Student and Teacher Edition for Mac?

I purchased “Adobe Captivate 8 Student and Teacher Edition” for Mac on 7/31/14 and it is now 12/17/14 (only 5 months later) but it is showing as “Not applicable” when I go to download (maybe re-download) the program. I understood that I would be able to use the application on 2 computers, one at home and one at work. I think I’ve downloaded the program at home one time but have yet to install and activate it. I now have a new computer at work that can support that program and want to install the program on my office computer, but cannot download it again. Please advise.

It seems like that you have purchased a subscription for Captivate 8. In subscription you do not require any serial number. Subscriptions are activated on the basis of your Adobe Id. When user will install Captivate he has to sign in with the same Adobe Id under which they bought subscription. It will get activated after successful sign in during the installation.
As far as the installer is concern there is no difference in the trial version installer or purchased version installer. The installer is same for trial and purchased copy. All user needs to do is sign in during the installation if it is a subscription or use his serial number if it is a perpetual license or volume license.
You may download the trial version from the link mentioned above and then use your Adobe Id to activate the subscription.
Please let me know in case you need any further information.
    Regards,
    Rajeev.

  • Confused about Office for Mac editions...

I'm about to pull the plug and order Office 2004 for Mac. A few internet sites offer the following progams...
Office 2004 for Mac Home & Student Edition
Others don't offer this edition, but do offer...
Office 2004 for Teachers and Student Edition
The latter edition is a couple of dollars less and MORE available from places I usually shop. I'm really pointing toward taking advantage of MS free upgrade to Office 2008 Special Media Edition. Does anyone know if there is some hoop I have to jump through if I buy the "Teacher" edition? It looks to me that they are the same thing. What I DON'T want to happen is for MS to tell me I'm not eligible for the free upgrade to the '08 edition because I'm not a teacher or a student (except of life.)

You may be right that there is no 2004 "Home"' Office edition available for sale although as I pointed out, there are web stores selling what they claim is this edition.
At the site below, you can pre-order the 2008 "Home" edition for around $130. The box showed clearly states that it is the "Home" edition. I'm still confused, but I guess I'll just order the Amazon edition and be done with it. When I bought my MacBook late last month, the store was selling what they said was the 2004 Office version for $150 and at the time, they claimed that I would get a free update in early January when the new version came out. I would rather get the free full "super" 2008 edition upgrade when it is available, but I don't want to get into "no-man's" land if I have the so-called "Teachers-Student" and MS says no because I'm not a teacher or a student.

    Hello forum,
Hopefully a simple question.  My father-in-law passed recently, leaving behind an unopened copy of CS 5.5 Master Collection Student and Teacher Edition for Macs.  How can I find out if he registered this software without opening it?  After finding out how much this software runs, I'd like to sell or return it if possible to give the money to my mother-in-law for funeral costs.
    Thank you,

    Mylenium,
    Thanks for the quick response!
Thats a shame that it can't be used. Are you sure I couldn't donate the software to a university or school?  It just seems like a big waste for something so expensive.

    Hi,
Is anybody using Virtual PC Home Edition for Mac 7 & is it any good?
    Have you had any problems?
    Jeff

Virtual PC is outdated and probably doesn't even run under Snow Leopard (since you're posting in the Snow Leopard forum).
For running Windows software next to Mac software, your current choices are Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, VirtualBox, and others. All will run much faster than Virtual PC anyway.

I bought Adobe creative suite 6 ( Student Edition ) for Windows? Can I install the programs on Mac as well?

Licenses are platform specific, so the Windows version will only work on the Mac if the Mac has Windows emulation software installed.  The other option would be to trade your Windows version for a Mac version, but then you lose the use of it on the Windows machine.

Yes, certainly, but if you're in the US I would just download the trial and use that for now, since there will be plenty of deals on the full version come the start of the holiday shopping season, especially at places like amazon and big box stores. Usually for much less than adobe's upgrade price.
