[GeForce 6] Do the 6200 AGP cards require 8X?

Will the 6200 require an 8X slot or will they work on my MSI board which is 4X?
Thanks

galaxy,
All 8x Vid Cards work with all 8x and 4x Mobos. All 8x Mobos work with all 8x and 4x Vid Cards.
Take Care,
Richard

  • Will the ATI Radeon 700 AGP card run two Studio 21 Displays?

I just bought a G4 MDD 1.4 GHZ Mac that has what I assume was the stock video card, which appears to be for LCD displays, since the cables from my Apple 21" Studio displays (CRTs) don't match up to it (those are called VGA monitors, right?).
On my present Mac (G4 Quicksilver) I am running both of these 21" Studio Displays, one plugged into the stock AGP card and the other connected to a PCI video card. As I prepare to switch over to my "new" MDD Mac now, I need to figure out how best to run the two monitors with this G4. (I will leave the video cards in the old Quicksilver and give it to a relative who also wants to run two monitors with it).
I notice a new Radeon 7000 AGP card being offered on Ebay which has one VGA port, and they provide an adapter so that the second (DVI) port can also run a VGA monitor. If that card would run both my 21" Studio Displays independently as claimed, it would be the ideal solution, if the performance is adequate.
I do lots of Photoshop(CS2)adjustment of digital camera images and also make video movies with Final Cut Express, iDVD, etc., with both monitors set to 1152 X 870 at 75 Hertz. Would such a card as this one be up to the task with both monitors?
Every time I try to post the link to the Ebay auction for this card, everything in this text box disappears. So I'll just copy and paste the description of the card from the auction: "ATI Radeon 7000 64MB DDR Dual Monitor capable AGP Video Card with VGA, DVI-I, and S-Video Out and a DVI to VGA adapter. The video card has ATI's latest firmware (v226) with the latest ATI Displays support. It does not have any sleep issues. The card is capable of dual true independent/simultaneous monitor support with extended desktop. The adapter allows for dual VGA operation. This model has been tested in a G4 Tower, G4 Cube, and G5 with several versions of OS X including OS 10.4/Tiger. This card is guaranteed to work in any Macintosh G4 Tower, G4 Cube, or G5 Tower with OS 9.2.2 or later that has an available AGP slot."
Sounds good---maybe too good to be true. Any drawbacks to such a setup as this?
    Any advice most appreciated.
    Tom

Thanks for the info Malcolm. I checked out those links you provided, and it appears that buying two adapters for the presently-inistalled video card which would allow it to run two VGA monitors looks like a workable solution, all right. But it would be more expensive than just buying that Radeon AGP card to run both monitors, if the latter would work (that's what I'm still wondering).
Also, I notice that the DVI to VGA adapter sold by Apple has some poor reviews and seems to have glitches. It is reported by several people to be unreliable and seems to turn a lot of displays magenta, and in other cases requires a lot of wiggling or careful positioning to make it work right. Sounds like Apple needs to work on the design.
I appreciate the info, but I'm still favoring the Radeon 700 AGP card if someone can tell me it might work.
As to which card my Mac has in it right now, I can't tell just by looking at it (why don't they put an identifying sticker or something on the things?) and I can't connect any of my VGA displays to it yet to let the Mac report what it has in it, so it's still a mystery.
    Thanks again,
    Tom

  • G5 Still Holding up - AGP Card NOT!

I was recently relieved after bringing my G5(June 2004?) in for repair that it's not the motherboard or the hard drive but the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MB video card (using this machine primarily for video editing, motion graphics etc.) After hearing the crushing news that my Mac is "vintage" and my local store can't offer up any cards because they don't make them anymore I scoured the interwebs. I found some on eBay and a few other sites.
A few questions: I'm seeing the exact card I need on sites like eBay but most of them are NEW CONDITION bought in bulk from ATI and not in retail boxes. Has anyone purchased a card this way? It's the first time I've had to do this so I'm a little hesitant but since I have an older Mac I know my options are limited.
Also, since I have to get a new card, what are my options with regard to an upgraded card beyond the ATI card I'm currently replacing. I'm seeing ATI Radeon 9800 X8 SE cards (X8 referring to the AGP slot?) and 9800 XT cards. Since these are all outdated cards, what are my options here?
    Thanks all,
    William

  • TS1935 I have the video card model . What is the best video card for a 1.6GHz PowerPC G5 please?

    Hello
What is the best (most modern and reliable) video card (AGP) which will work in a 1.6GHz PowerPC G5 (mid 2003)?
I believe I have ATY,RV350, and according to the attached article, it may be causing video start up problems.
    Thank you

Rated slowest on top, fastest on bottom.
Though with no power loght & such, I'm not sure that is the problem or not... does the Hard drive(s) spin up?

  • What is the limit on an AGP card?

    Hi there
I have an MSI MEGA 865....it works brilliantly! I love this little thing.
My Sig below has my specs...
Im currently getting very low temps on both my system and cpu..both in the high 30's under load and the low 30's when idle.
Im wondering whats the upper limit of an AGP graphics card which i can put in there?
I have heard that a Geforce FX 6800 needs a very powerful power supply, like around 350-450Watts...so assuming this is true the 250Watt power supply which comes with the MSI MEGA 865 would not be enough to power it....
I have contacted the MSI tech support and they advised against getting the Geforce FX 6800...and suggested the Geforce FX 5700 or lower.
Im wondering if any1 here has a high powered geforce FX card in their MSI MEGA 865's...and could let me know how far i can go....i really want to do more than just watch movies on this thing...and want the best geforce FX i can get.
    Any suggestions out there?

I use PNY card. Their earlier release of 5200 was with a heat sink. Now they all come with a fan. And mine that I bought back in May has a different fan from the other one that I bought just a week ago for my other WKS. The latest seems to be a better one in terms of construction but also appears to be by 1 or 2 mm thicker (can't say for sure as I haven't tried to swap them.
Also, AFAIK, the 5700 card line requires a separate power connection to the card off a PSU.

I use the software that came with my DVB-T card, called FusionHDTV
Don't know that one -- but one thing I sure -- if you getting HDTV off it -- your CPU util will be high -- and as a result lots of heat and fan activity to cool your system.
My personal opinion after a few months time playing with mega as an HTPC -- I'd get a different case. I really like the simplicity (and the price as well of the Antec Aria case But that is only my oppinion, and I could be wrong

What are the video card requirements for running a 22" cinema display(clear acrylic case) w/ a PC? My motherbaord is AGP. Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Hi Lionel,
As a general rule of thumb, the ATI Rage 128 Pro will not support a 20" LCD. That being said, there are reports of it doing just that (possibly the edition that went into the cube).
I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the Cube, so I can't give you authoritative information on it.

  • Have a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 w Geforce 6200 Video card.  Need to replace. Do I need a mac specific, or will a PC version work?

I need a Geforce 6200 Video card. The present card is 'flaky', causing ocaisional freezes on startup.  Does the replacement have to be mac specific, or will a PC version work?

A replacement card MUST be Mac specific unless you have the know how to hack the ROM to a Mac ROM (flash in a PC first).

  • [GeForce 6] Which GPU model on my 6200 AGP???

Hi,I wanted to ask if anyone of you knows which gpu(nv43 or nv44a) is on my card MSI NX6200 TD128(128bit,not AX)?
I tried to found the info in riva tuner but it sais only: Nvidia 6200( with no gpu model or revision). Also on MSI product page for my card there is no info about the gpu used for this card.Purpose of the question is ofcourse the possibility(?) of unlocking 4 pixel pipes(if they are there anyway..).And i don't want to mess around with the heatsink(to see the gpu myself) due to warranty issue.
    Thanks!

Thanks man,i think that nvidia used  bridged&crippled  gpu's from early 6600's to make 6200 agp. There is famous leadtek A6200 agp model which can be unlocked with riva tuner to make a 6600.

well this was PNY's model nod leadtek, but the same thing.

  • Will this card work? - Nvidia Geforce 6800 ULTRA 256MB VRAM AGP Video Card

I posted a question about getting the maximum resolution from an Apple 30 inch Cinema Display and another card, which didn't work.
The replies were fast here in the forum and quite correct.
My next question is regarding the Nvidia Geforce 6800 ULTRA 256MB VRAM AGP Video Card.
I have an AGP card with an ATi Radeon 9600 Pro card that can't power the 30 inch because it's only 64MB and no DVI output.
I'm wondering whether this card will give me the maximum resolution?
    Thanks again.

    Hi Japamac-
    Thanks for the quick reply.
My System Profiler indicates a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, but it doesn't have the Dual Link since this is an older G5 with only 64MB of VRAM.
The GeForce 6800 is a refurb, but is Mac compatible.
I'm hoping that it will work, but since it won't be returnable, I don't want to spend the money needlessly.
I did order another card that the Apple support suggested should be compatible, but turned out that they sent me the PC version.
I've spoken to Apple as well and get conflicting info.
It boils down to the fact that this is a G5 with a late 2004 date.
It is fast enough for me and my only hang up is that I'm only getting 12980X800 resolution.
I'm not using it for gaming or graphics processing.
    HTH.

  • Hardware missing (it's not the agp card)

I installed final cut 4, and I am getting an error that says (power mac g4/350 mgz, or faster). I already changed the code for the agp card and that went away, but when I tried changing the code for this problem, I get another error that says (unknown value for key). please I need some help, I spent hours trying different things, but nothing seems to work. thanks a lot.

I have a project due on monday
Then Now is kinda a bad time to start attempting a non-standard installation, isn't it?
    As the instructions say:
After installation and before launching any of the programs, open each application package (Final Cut Pro, Compressor, Soundtrack, etc.) that was installed inside the Applications folder, and edit the Info.plist file inside of the Contents folder of the application with TextEdit or your favorite plain-text editor. Simply delete the lines and tags that would prevent running on your machine. For example, to get it to run on a G3/300, you would delete the following lines, or simply change them to match your system:
    <key>AELRequiredCPUType</key>
    <string>G4</string>
    <key>AELMinimumCPUSpeedSingle</key>
    <string>350</string>
to open the application package, ctrl/right click on the app and select Show Package contents... from the popup.

There are actually two graphic cards in the system, the one you show in your post and one part of the motherboard.
This is done on laptops to help save battery, when the system does need need high performance graphics, when it is doing text it uses the integrated graphics card, when it needs to do high performance graphics like when running Aperture it switches to the other card.
It is possible something is wrong with your system preventing it from switching.  What OS version are you running, is it really 10.6.4?
See MacBook Pro: How to determine which graphics processor is in use to determine which GPU is in use. But if it is not switching you most likely have a hardware problem.

  • Error: The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum system requirements by Aperture

I have a Mac Pro 3.1 10.5.8 and Aperture 2.1.4.  My NVida 8800gt with 512 mb was over heating so I brought and install the ATI radeon hd 5770 to replace it.  Now when I try to start Aperture I get this message "Error: The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum system requirements by Aperture".  All other software works fine, ie photoshop elements and Safari.  When I install my old card aperture will open with no problem, but of course the card will overheat within 10 mins and I will have no video.  I have search on google with no luck.  Will upgrading to Aperture 3 fix this problem?

    5770 requires 10.6.5.
The 8800GT - there is the 350* bake in over 10 minutes - 50% or better chance
you can find 8800GT on http://myworld.ebay.com/macvidcards/

Fan control helps with FBDIMMs which need to be kept under 70C too.

Help.  I have an iMAC - not even one year old - just got this message - The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for Aperture.
I have not made any changes to my machine. Help  - I can't get to my images

    Try restarting your system.
If that does not help, we will need to know your Aperture version and MacOS X version. And do you use an external monitor? Then disconnect it before rebooting.

Please click Profile Update and follow the directions for updating your profile. Your computer may be too old to support Aperture however without knowing anything about your iMac it's impossible to say. Also there is an Aperture forum to use and you can look at Aperture's System Requirements below to see if you have the minimum.
