Geforce 970 disabled my sound card!!

Hello everybody! This post is my first one in the forums. Nice to make all of your acquaintances!
My issue is the following. My system is an X58 board, and it had an old Geforce 9800 as well as a Sound blaster Z Card. Everything was working perfectly, without any issue whatsoever. I recently upgraded my video card for an MSI 970 GTX 4G. When I installed the card drivers, I allowed them to install Nvidia HD Audio. Big mistake
Nvidia HD Audio installed a whole heap of HDMI devices, for some reason made my Sound Blaster device disappear from the device manager, and now Windows cannot even detect my sound card! And I don´t even use the HDMI connector! I use DVI!
The steps that I have taken to try the correct the issue are the following:
1) Set my preferred audio device to the Sound Blaster in the Audio Control Panel. Result: Does not work, since the Sound Blaster is not even being detected by Windows.
2) Uninstall and reinstall the 970, but without selecting Nvidia HD Audio. Result: No dice; Windows now installs generic drivers for the Nvidia devices, and it still will not recognize my sound blaster.
3) Reformat!!!  Result: Fail, Windows still does not recognize my Sound Blaster, and it still installs generic drivers for the Nvidia Audio by default.
4) Disable and reenable onboard sound in the BIOS. Does not really help because that works on the crappy Realtek integrated card that my board includes, for which I precisely bought the Sound Blaster to replace.
5) The only way my Sound Blaster works again is by completely removing the 970 and going back to my old 9800. So the card works; it is not fried.
So it is pretty safe to assume that the culprit is the 970, which is causing some sort of hardware conflict. I have seen various users complain about the same thing with nvidia cards when doing a Google Search. However, no proposed solution in the forums has brought me any luck in my case.
So Nvidia and MSI, what the heck? If this problem has been going on for years and in various occasions, shouldn´t you guys have a fix for it already? And most importantly for me, how can I fix it in my case??? The 970 works great as a video card, but who made you guys think that it is an audio card too??
My specs:
XFX X58i
i7-920 stock clocks
12 Gb RAM
Samsung 840 Evo 256
Sound Blaster Z
Old: EVGA Geforce 9800 1GB
New: MSI GTX 970 4G
850W PSU, XFX Black Edition
Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Hi Nichrome! Thanks for your answer!
Thankfully, I was able to solve the issue. Apparently what caused the problem was that in this particular motherboard, you can´t just arbitrarily plug a pcix card in any slot; they have to follow a certain order. I had the 970 in the first slot and the sound card in the third slot, because I wanted the fans on the 970 to be unobstructed. But I switched the sound card to the second slot and voila! Problem solved.
Just to be safe, and for whoever else might be reading this post, when reinstalling everything, I installed the geforce with generic drivers first and then disabled the generic hd audio device that installs automatically. Only after that did I plug the sound card and installed it without any problem. When installing the Nvidia drivers, I made sure to NOT install the HD Audio stuff. Holding a rosary and garlic, as well as threatening the pc with a wooden stake also seemed to help!

If you want to disable the sound card you can do this in the device manager!

  • How to disable sound card on A20m...Is there a BIOS option?

I'm trying to use an after market sound card but I think I'm having conflicts even when disabling the Crystal sound in the device manager.  Anyway to disable it in the Bios?

    Welcome to the forum!
There is no BIOS option for disabling the sound card, but you can:
    a) Un-install the drivers for it and see if it helps.
    b) Change the IRQ setting to see whether that removes the conflict you were referring to.
Good luck and let us know.

  • Video card error - No resources when sound card installed.

    Hi
I hope that someone can help me here :/
I just bought a x-fi Sound Blaster card... I installed it and booted up PC.. When windows loads the screen and colours are at their minimum.. I look in device manager and there is a yellow warning icon on the device (GeForce 6800 Ultra).. It says, unable to find enough resources, please disable another device in the system.. I disable the sound card and re-boot..no change.. I tried to go on the internet but the browser kept crashing.. I took the sound card out of the PC and everything is fine now.
Has anyone come across this before? I'd appreciate any help on this
    Thanks
JonSince it's the sound card causing the problem, I thought it'd be ok to post here

Hi?Thanks for the replies... I've tried 4 PCI slots with no luck.. My AGP was already set to 256 ?One thing that I did notice was that after installing the SB software.. The test signal would only come through the left speaker... The speakers work fine with the on-board sound (which has been disabled btw).. I checked the settings and everything seemed as it should be...So this is either to do with the conflict or it's a faulty sound card.. IRQ's are a tricky subject for me.. There are lots of settings in the bios..Everything is set to auto currently. With the Sound Card out, the graphic card takes IRQ 6 (as told by device manager) in the bios it says it's assigned IRQ .. When the SB was installed, I forget what IRQ it had but I'm sure it was neither or 6.. Thanks for any further suggestions?Jon

  • External usb sound card is not working correctly

When my computer usb sound card is working correctly. If your computer to sleep and wake up the sound card is working correctly. If you disable the sound card and connect again, it appears extraneous sound on the background music playing. Each time the sound is different. The sound is very similar to not match the sampling frequency. If the computer is rebooted, then the sound card is working properly again.
    Soundcard Infra-sonic.com model Amon.
I have not experienced problems when using the same card with Mac OS 10.5.8 with the drivers for Mac OS 10.5
Manufacturer issued driver for Snow Leopard, but the card still does not work correctly.
Also such problems, other users complain about an external USB audio card. None of the users can not find a solution to this problem.

  • How can I completely disable the sound on an iMac?

I work at a high school where I am in charge of all technology on campus, as well as the position of librarian (an effort to save money by the disctrict). In the library, I have about 14 iMacs (2008) that are available for students to do research and reports on, though the computers have basically been turned into really expensive Facebook and YouTube machines. Anyways, I'm looking for a way to completely disable the audio on these iMacs. Simply muting the volume and hiding the control on the toolbar doesn't help because there's volume control right there on the keyboard. Is there any way to just disable the sound all together? Such as disabling the sound card or possibly usuing a utility or script? An even better solution would be to disable the speakers, but leaving the headphone jack enabled so if need be, a student can plug in headphones and still get sound. But I'll settle for completely disabling the audio, if anyone can help with that. Thanks so much!

One thing you might try is going to System Preferences/Sound and changing the output from Internal Speakers to Line Out or Digital Out. Line Out would be for headphones. I assume it keeps this setting after a reboot but you should test it.
Disabling the sound will also disable all warning sounds.  Those can be pretty useful.

  • Is SB Live! 1024 Digital Sound Card the same as SB Live, 24b

Okay, I truly am a newbie and know less than mothing about?sound cards except that they are great when they work, but terrible when they don't. I purchased this Dell Dimension 8200 about fi've years ago. It has .5 GB PC800 RDRAM and has been really trouble-free for the most part, or as long as i keep my hands ooutside the case. I try to keep my software up-to-date, within reason. I have had very little trouble with this machine. Having said that, about Tuesday, I decided to upgrade to Vista Business from Xp Pro. I followed all suggested steps as advised by the "Microsoft Upgrade Advisor."? After about 30 hours of frustration, I finally have it going and am reasonably certain that I will eventually be able to recover most of the files lost during the "upgrade "? when it did a? full install instead of the supposed upgrade. I can afford to take my time with the files, but the lack of a fuctioning sound card is driving me crazy. Tha drivers I had been using, which were the originals I think, as I do not recall having updating them, do not work. In fact, I get a "blue screen" and my computer locks up, requiring a "Safe" start to disable the Sound card, at which time it will start normally until I enable and we start over again. I need to find the proper driver for my card, but every driver I have found?is not accepted as a driver for my card when I attempt to install it's. I can shut down and pull the card to get any information available, if I know what is needed. Thanks in advance and have a great day!

    No, it isn't.
Hmm... check the model from the sticker in card w/ long serisl number as like MCT43000464645029474 where the bolded part of number is the model.
After this, just check the model name

If there is no sticker available then

and then afte the model is known, either download the driver package from

    or

  • Soundtrack Pro (randomly?) disables my Black-Magic card I use as Sound Card

I uprgraded to 5.1 FCP and now my woes begin. Before Sountrack worked seamelessly. But now, sometimes it will play back (be audible) through the video card I use as my sound card also - a Black-Magic Decklink, and sometimes it won't. It does play though the internal speaker.
But on a few occasions, with no apparent intervention on my part, the sound does come via the sound card.
I have gone to my general preference, I have gone to Sountrack Preferences. I have tried the manual, but the manual search, you know, doesn't ever list any searches that bear at the moment at hand.
Also, Soundtrack Pro disables the card. for instance, to hear iTunes through the card, I had to quit Soundtrack Pro. Of course Apple wants to charge me for "help" with this. For myself, no idea, very stymied.

I also have the intensity settings in the mac system preferences set to y, r-y, b-y video & analog RCA Audio.
    I am still stumped!

  • Satellite L750 - while playing a game or watch a movie sound card disables

    hi
i have a problem with my sound card. while i play a game or watch a movie, it stops. the only way to enable the sound again is to disable and enable the speakers. my laptop model is L750-1LC and i have downloades the conexant sound driver fom the site of Toshiba.
can anyone help me with my problem please.
    thanks

    >the second thing is that when i disable the other 5 hd driver, the sound works, but when i reboot my system, it installs the other 5 drivers by its self.
The driver should be uninstalled in device manager!
I did it the same on my notebook Tecra A11. But my notebook supports Realtek HD audio driver instead of Conexant.
However, something similar happened to me too. The sound did not appear from speakers but through the headphones. I had to plug-in the headphones to the headphone jack and then remove the headphones to get this issue solved.
But this was really annoying and I decided to update the Realtek driver.
I uninstalled the sound driver firstly from control panel -> Programs & features
Then I uninstalled (click on uninstall driver) the Intel High Definition driver and Realtek HD driver from device manager.
Then I downloaded the newest Realtek driver version and installed this driver.
After new reboot the unit recognized the Intel high definition controller but the sound worked and the issue did not appear again

The device manager in control panel, which is under 'system' and then 'hardware'.
Thank you for your post. It seems to be the only one solution to this issue.
I was told (OEM support) that the bios is a generic one (reason why the AC97 line appear) but for this kind of mother board, it cannot be accessed.
Your solution works and I think it's enought.
