GeForce FX 5200/dual display

Hello yall,
quick qestion, does GeForce FX 5200 support dual display config.
if so, why are there two different ports on the back instead of the
same?
many tnx.

First:
Plug in each of your HP displays to make sure they work in the DVI Port. This will rule out those.
Second:
If you still have the ADC display, try plugging that back in w and w/o the DVI display.
Third:
If the monitors work in the above, then see about using your adapter on another computer. It seems as if it may be faulty.
What brand/model is it?

I want to attach a second display to my machine, but the second plug on the card is a non-standard DVI-type connector. It looks like this:
    x x x x x x x x x x -----
...with 10 rows of 3 as opposed to 8.
I have had trouble finding an adapter to use to convert this to VGA (which is what I meed to connect my second monitor). I've searched the Apple Store online to no avail, as well as Google. Perhaps I've had no luck because I don't know the name of this part.
    Any help is much appreciated!

Hello! Does the port look like the one below? If so you'll need an adapter. Tom
Actually, HERE is the page i was looking for that shows and describes all dvi connections.

  • Another dual display problem - GeForce FX 5200

I've seen lots of questions about dual display problem, situation when trying to connect two non-apple vga displays to your graphic card.
I have GeForce FX 5200 graphic card, with 2 display output's. And two DELL 17" vga LCD displays.
I manage to connect 1 display regulary with dvi to vga converter, but for other display I tried several difrent converters ADC to DVI to VGA, and it just did NOT work.
G5 could see other display in display settings, in arrange option I coud see two identical displays, but I don't get anu picture (desktop) on other display???
Is it problem with output's on my graphic card (Gforce FX 5200), could it be soloved with some ADC to VGA converter?
P.S. Dr. Bott ADC VGA Extractor is not compatible with GeForce FX 5200????

It should work. On Dr. Botts web-site it says:

  • Dell Widescreen Displays and GeForce FX 5200

    Hi everyone,
I have a PowerMac G5 1.6 GHz with the original GeForce 5200 that came in it.
I'm shopping around for a replacement monitor and am considering Dell's 20.1" wide model (2005FPW).
Does anybody have any experience with this combination? I see that some have had problems with the DVI connector on the Dell displays. I also can't find anything that assures me that my video card is capable of displaying at the Dell's native 1680x1050 resolution.
Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to avoid the high price of the Apple displays.
    PowerMac G5 1.6 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

It's with some comfort that others have the same problem I do, getting my Dell 2005fpw to interface with my GeForce FX 5200 on my PowerPC G5,running OS 10.3.9. I've seen elsewhere (can't remember where) Mac users raving about their Dell monitors. They know something I don't, I guess, and that's why I'm in this discussion.
I wonder how users of the Apple Cinema 20" are able to interface with the GeForce 5200, when the Cinema requires the same 1680x1050 resolution as the Dell. I've accessed the nVIDIA site to download an update, but no luck. Think I'll go back in & look at the resolutions available on the GeForce 5200.

  • Dual monitors on nvidia geforce fx 5200

    Hi,
I'm using a nvidia geforce fx 5200 card that has vga out, dvi out, and svideo out. I have one crt hooked into the vga, the main monitor, and I have a dvi to vga converter, to enable a second vga, crt monitor. When I try to use the nvidia-settings, and enable twinview,  and I get this message:
    "failed to set metamode (1) 'CRT00: nvidia-auto-select @1024x768 + 1024+0, DFP-0: 1024x768 @1024x768 +0+0' (Mode 2048x768, id: 50) on X screen 0."
    any ideas? thanks.

Hm, Not working, just display on the true vga monitor. Are you using a dvi to vga connector as well? Heres my log output, I couldn't make too much of it, I tried to switch the CRT-1 to DFP-0 which didn't seem to do the trick either.

  • Vertical lines on dual display after boot up with NVIDIA GeForce 6600 on G5

I have just upgraded my G5 Quad from OS 10.4 to OS 10.5. Now, whenever I boot up the dual display is split into vertical stripes. I can fix it for that session by unplugging one monitor and plugging it back in again. If I boot up from the 10.5 install disc - same problem. If I boot up from the 10.4 install disc - works fine. The display does not go into vertical segments during the grey start up period, but only when the desktop appears. Anyone got any ideas?

    Hi-
I think what you are seeing is a result of poor, possibly failing, VRAM.
The stripes sound very typical of VRAM errors, and the fact that dual monitors in Leopard are added to the mix furthers the theory.
Leopard uses the graphics card much more than Tiger, that is, pulls more resources (power) from the graphics card.
Add the load of two monitors at relative high resolution, and marginal VRAM can exhibit symtoms of being so; marginal.
I'm curious as to a possible third work around. If the monitors are equipped with power buttons, does cycling one off, then on, allow proper display at the desired resolution?
Also, is this Geforce 6600 the 128MB version, or the 256MB version? This is listed in the System Profiler/Graphics/Displays.

  • NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with Apple 23" Cinema Display?

    Hi,
I would like to know if my graphic card in my Sony Vaio PC is compatible with a 23" Apple display ? I would like to run a splitter with one feed going to my Mac Pro and the other to my PC utilizing the same Apple LCD monitor.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 128Mb, this card has a PCI connection, but I am not sure if my card could support the Apple 23" Cinema Display that I recently purchased to replace the 19" Envison LCD that I'm currently using ?
Does anyone have an idea ?
Is there a list somewhere giving compatble graphic card ?
The nvidia site does not say a word about cinema display !
    Thanks in advance

Apple doesn't make compatibility information known
    for non-Apple systems.
    But yes, they do.

  • MSI GeForce 4 MX 440 with AGP 8X - No Dual Display?

Hello! I have just purchased the MSI MX440-VTD8X  based on GeForce 4 MX 440 with AGP 8X. I have the latest drivers and everything but I’m unable to enable the clone option to have pictures on both my monitor and my TV. The option is grayed out. The TV connection is correctly connected. I can choose my TV as the primary display, it’s just that I cannot have dual display! Isn’t my card supposed to have this option? Here is a pic:

A previous poster (in a different thread) found that if the video card has both analog and digital monitor outputs, then for TV-out to function properly with the VIVO 4-port adapater, you need to connect your analog monitor to the digital output using the supplied digital-to-analog converter.
I have a new G4 MX440 VTD8X and had a similar issue to the one described here....the TV could not be detected by the video card when connected via RCA jacks (S-video worked, but could not CLONE the monitor).  I moved my primary monitor from the analog to the digital port, and viola, the TV out functions perfectly now. :D

  • Geforce 4 mx 440 dual display - mandrake 9.0

I am wanting to switch my workstation from Windows 2000 to Linux Mandrake 9.0. Anyone tell me if all of the TV in/out and dual display stuff will work under Mandrake 9? It is the GeForce 4 MX 440 with the dual VGA out and the s-video input/output connections. The main concern is the dual display. Let me know at [email protected] or post here. Thanks for the help!

  • 20" Apple Cinema LCD Display and GeForce FX 5200

    Hi,
My video card is GeForce FX 5200. I want to upgrade my monitor (finally!) to 20" Cinema Display. Do I need to upgrade my video/graphic card too? If so, what would be your recommendations?
    Thanks!

    Hi-
The GeForce FX 5200 will support the 20" Cinema Display.
If you want to upgrade the 8x AGP graphics in your G5 (what model G5?), the ATI Radeon 9600 PC & Mac version would be a good upgrade from the 5200:

  • Which two displays on Geforce FX 5200 ultra are possible?

    Hi,
I have a Powermac g5 2x2 ghz (2004) Geforce FX 5200 (ultra?) videocard with two 17 inch monitors. I would like to chance one (or maybe both) into a bigger one, maybe a 24 inch. Is this possible and what is important to look at ? And what is the max screen size and resulution this card can have on two monitors? I red somewhere the max res is 1600x1200 and 22 or 24 inch monitors need support for 1920x1080?
    Thx in advance. Ron.

    Hi-
The Geforce 5200 supports digital resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels.
A LCD monitor with DVI input up to 24" is no problem.
I red somewhere the max res is 1600x1200
That is for analog, not digital.

  • Only DVI with GeForce FX 5200

I just bought a Dual G5 1.8 off craigslist and this is the first non-integrated display computer I've owned (5 lappies later).
Purchased an Acer X223W (22in DVI input) and plugged it into the DVI port on the GeForce FX 5200. Turned on the display, then turned on the G5 and.... nothing. No video that is... the computer runs fine.
My question is this, is the DVI port only for second monitors, or should this work? I'd just stick in the system discs but joe craigslist couldn't find em and I've only got the ones that came with my macbook...
So before I go beg, borrow or buy some retail discs, I thought I'd check and see if this should work in theory
    thanks!

Okay, I've been searching and searching and It seems like this should be possible (others seem to be running just off the DVI port).
I've got the discs and used them. I've zapped the pram and restarted with the discs but still no luck...
Any ideas on how to get this mac to recognize this monitor?
