GeForce FX 5600 problems

I recently bought a MSI GeForce FX 5600 256MB.
After installation, when turning on the computer, I get video problems (small "dots" stochasticly spread over the screen). This problem still appears after installing the latest drivers. Tried the card on another PC, same motherboard as I have, the problem is there as well.
450W PWRSupply, so no lack of pwr...  ?(
AMD Athlon XP2800 (Barton)
MSI 746F ULTRA Motherboard DDR400
Maxtor IDE ATA-133 120GB
MSI GeForce FX 5600 256MB DDR
2x TwinMOS PC2700 DDR-DIMM 512MB

I have the same problem here using the DVI out when the refresh rate is set AT MORE than 60 Hz. I have tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall and after, I have no choice of refresh frequency. The card is stuck at 60 Hz on the DVI out. No more dots but sore eyes !!!  ;(
So I switch back to the analog output and it provide up to 1280X1024 @ 75 Hz which is what my sreen can support and it works perfectly. I guess using the analog output would be best for the moment since I have tried another brand new FX5600 and still have the same problem.
I think the FX5600 is still a good card anyway ! Difference between DVI and analog out ?? Could not tell on my screen so why not use the analog output then ?!
CLICK HERE (.wmv 280k) to see a small video of what I see on my ViewSonic VP171b LCD display . Really small flickering dots on some region of the screen.
I have contact ViewSonic and they are not aware of that problem and told me it was the video card that would probably cause the problem. I guess they were right reading this thread !

  • Problem with 848p NEO V and GeForce FX 5600 point of View

    Hello there,
I have bought a mobo yesterday (848p NEO V) then when I tried to plug the graphic card (Ge Force FX 5600 point of view) the computer reboots just before entering Win XP PRO.
So I tried another graphic card (ATI 9200), all worked fine.
In the same way, I tried my GeForce in another mobo (ECS P4VXAS) and of course all worked fine.
Each time I tried the MSI mobo with the GeForce card (using diffrents drivers), it doesn't work.
Does someone know where could this problem come from?
    Thank you very much

  • Performance Problems with GeForce FX 5600 256mb Video Card

I recently purchased the GeForce FX 5600 VTD 256mb video card to replace my old ATi Radeon 8500 64mb card.  I'm running an AMD 2800XP+ on an MSI K7N2 Delta-L, with 1gb of PC 2100 on Windows XP Pro.
I installed the latest drivers (from the EGA site) and ran 3DMark 2001 SE.  My score for the old card (a 64mb card) was about 9200.  My score for the new 256mb card is only 8700.  My roommate has a GeForce 4 TI4600 128mb video card.  We put his card in my computer, and I scored 11117.  According to PCStats.com, the FX 5600 128mb version scored about 11000.
I've tried everything I can think of to ensure my video card is working properly,  but I still get low scores.  I don't know if I'm missing something somwhere, but there has to be a way to get more performance out of the video card.  Can anyone help me out here?

Yeah, I've ran the driver cleaner after changing each driver.  And I've tried several drivers with the new card.  I've even changed the clock settings a bit, which has helped bring the scores up to around 9000.  Still way off from the GeForce 4 or the 128mb version of the 5600.

Please could some body tell me what is wrong with my geforce fx 5600 vtdr 128 graphics card
I have recently purchased the card and have noticed that in powerstrip and 3d mark it states that the core clock speed is 54.0 mhz and the memory clock speed is 100.4 mhz
I know this is wrong because it states on MSI's website that the core clock speed is 325 mhz and the memory clock speed is 550 mhz
Please could somebody help me with information or how to correct the problem or if this is normal
Thanks very much, help would be much appreciated.

Can you play your games better than you could with your old graphics card? Can you get high resolution and nice pretty textures?
If so, why worry about the numbers pumped out of a piece of software that doesn't let you wander about shooting aliens (or whatever your gaming bag is)?

  • KT4V + Leadtel GeForce FX 5600 ultra = compatible?

    Hi all,
I would like to know if the Leadteck A310 GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128 Mo is compatible with a KT4V ver 1.0. The test report of MSI is rather short and does not mention any older card than a GeForce 4 Mx.
I am asking this, because she doesn't boot with a SUMA GeForce 4 Ti 4200 SE 64 Mo. And I mean, when I plug the card in the AGP port, everything is like if I unplug the power cable. I've seen another user on this forum, with the same problem (GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64Mo, but a Siluro), and no solution where found. Even with nothing on it (no proc, no ram, nothing), the card it booting. But as soon as I put the Suma, no reaction. I tried a Geforce 2 MX, and it works just fine.
    Thanks in advance,
    Freeman.

My power supply is a 350 W Enermax dual-fan (don't remember exactly the spec). My old KT3 ultra liked it and never complained about it
I've tried a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 SE 128Mo - 8X. It works perfectly. I really dont know why my old GeForce 4 Ti4200 SE 64Mo- 4X doesn't work. Usualy, when there's a compatibility problem, at least, the system boots (even if it hangs soon after). But here, with the old GeForce, not a move. not even a breath from fans.
So, I decided to buy a new graphic card =  a FX 5600 Ultra. By the way, ATI offers more interesting card, but there are so many compatibility issues that I am afraid to try one... If enough people can assure me I will be safe with an ATI 9600 Pro on a KT4V, I may give it a try.

  • MSI GeForce FX 5600 256MB DDR with BIG FAN!

    Hi,
I was thinking in buying a new video card and a MSI Geforce FX 5600 256MB DDR is a very good choice for me, but i realised that despite the fact, that its a 256MB DDR running at 400Mhz, compared with the 550Mhz of the GFFX 5600 of 128MB DDR and i was thinking in buying a bigger cooling solution to replace the bundled one with the card. So i could overclock the mem frecuency at 550Mhz. So my question is, do you know of a good and not so expensive cooling solution for the card??.

Companies like Zalman and Vantec has to offer some nice and quiet cooling solutions.See video card's RAM specs for that kind of o/c.

  • 655 Max-LS + Geforce FX 5600

I'm having problems with the MSI 655 MAX-LS motherboard and MSI 5600 FX Cards, tried both the 128mb and 256mb version. It works fine until a driver is installed, then I just get a blank screen when it boots into win. Doesn't matter which driver you use, tried so many versions, tried the latest AGP driver from SiS, there's no new bios for the Motherboard. If I put in a Geforce 4 MX 440 it works just fine ... got any ideas? I was about to look for a flash for the FX cards ...

    Hi IceAce,
Can I have more details of your com specs cos it looks to me like you are facing a PSU problem (most likely) as you are running a FX 5600 card and a P4 board. Did you update your windows service packs?
You can also check on http://www.hardwarezone.com to one of their reviews on the FX drivers that is more suitable for your system.

  • K7T266 Pro R and Geforce 2 GTS problem

Hello everyone. I have been experiencing a problem for some time now regarding lockups and crashes caused by my video card, which vary in severity depending on the driver version used. Since I'm using an MSI K7T266 Pro Raid mobo (version 1) I thought I'd post my question here.
The exact problem depends on the driver version. Using any Nvidia Detonator drivers at version 40 or newer, my system becomes extremely unstable. On first booting everything seems fine, however if I try to open my Geforce display properties the Windows freezes during the redraw of the display properties window, which goes blank. Sometimes I can call up Close Programs Dialog, which shows DDHELP in the list, and [not responding]. I've never actually gotten an error message from DDHELP or any other error message -- perhaps the computer jams too hard for Windows to get one up. I've seen reports around the Net about DDHELP problems from things like DirectX 8.1, but they're never quite like my problem. The problem is identical on DirectX 8.0, 8.1, and on 9.0.
No matter what I try to do in Windows with these drivers installed, the computer will lock up in seconds. For example, if I then open IE 5.5, I might be able to get as far as a page or two before the similar thing happens: during the window redraw the computer locks up (usually with a blank or partially-redrawn window), sometimes causing the mouse to lock and sometimes not, and then if I can get the Close Program Dialog open DDHELP has appeared and is Not Responding.
The most stable driver version I've found so far is 29.42, which does not cause the lockup above and never causes DDHELP to appear. However, it is quite unstable as well, and causes Windows to lock up sporadically during 2D window redraws in various programs. For example, when calling up a Save Document dialog or when opening a pulldown menu the program will lock either before any of the redraw becomes visible on screen or when the new dialog box is "skeletal", only partially drawn. Sometimes the crash is severe enough that I have to do a cold restart on my system.
The other problem is that sporadically garbage blocks will appear in portions of my screen, like old windows and color bands popping up that do not refresh. This often happens to me in Photoshop 6, and happens usually when I'm scrolling down a window or something.
These problems with version 29.42 all appear to be 2d window-drawing related. I do not have any problems with 3d games with 29.42. However, the new reference drivers are so unstable on my system that I can't even try to open them.
With 29.42, the most stable drivers I've found so far, some kind of lockup due to redrawing windows almost always occurs within an hour (sometimes minutes) of booting up.
For what it's worth, dxdiag tests just fine.
I was hoping someone could help me figure out what's causing the trouble, what driver I should use, and how to resolve it. If possible, I'd really like to use the newer drivers as I've been told they're much faster. In any event, I hate having such an unstable system where lockups could occur at any moment!
Here's the lowdown of my system:
    -MSI K7T266 Pro Raid [1] mobo (MS-6380)
         AMIBIOS date: 5/1/2001

  • Nvidia Geforce 650m driver problem for windows 8.1 on macbook pro

Hey guys. I installed windows 8.1 on my macbook pro (mid2012, Intel core i7, retina, Geforce 650m) of course only for game, but I have a disappointing problem with the graphics driver. First I tried to instal graphics card driver by bootcamp (not the last version, the one before the last) .It started to install drivers one by one starting with graphics card, but suddenly the screen got black and remained black forever! I restarted the windows and guess what! after windows logo it got black and nothing more! Then I installed windows again and tried to install driver from windows update. It checked for update and found the driver for it and downloaded it and started to install, but again the black screen !!! Please help me thanks.

    DemetriAA wrote:
no this does not work. bootcamp drivers are broken for windows 8.1 on an efi install. apple is withholding the discreet gpu drivers from microsoft to trick people into thinking osx is more stable/efficient and thus windows cannot detect which gpu it is supposed to use when it can see both. the discreet gpu is hidden in the fake bios setup that bootcamp wants you to install with. the problem with doing this is that the more powerful gpu is all you can use in windows so the computer runs more hot and is louder which is annoying and hard on the battery life.
thanks apple, if i knew that when i bought the laptop i would have gone with something else.
This is not correct. If you force an EFI installation on a preUEFI Mac, you will see GPU and Audio errors. A non-EFI Hybrid MBR installation works correctly. Does Windows have the ability to switch GPUs? OS X, using external monitors, uses the non-Intel discreet GPU and the machine does not run hot. If Windows can provide dual-GPU support (which they have) and also provide GPU-switching (missing), this can be done. Can it be done for older hardware, highly unlikely. MacRumors has threads with PCI Register changes to expose the Intel GPU and the machine still runs hotter.

  • I have a Geforce 3 Boot problem

hi , looking for some help for a problem i have , i have a pc wich has an MSI MS-6524 board based on the SIS645 chipset, running on a P4 2.0ghz and 512 Mb of RAm, with a Geforce 3, it ran without problems for about a year then all of the sudden out of the blue one day it stopped booting , it would go all the way to the windows xp loading screen then all of the sudden the screen would go black, it enters safe mode fine and when i uninstall the nvidia drivers and attempt to load normally it loads fine up to when i reinstall the drivers, i formatted and reinstalled countless of times seeing if it would work and nothing , ive loaded bios defaults, downloaded mainboard's latest drivers and still nothing , weirdest thing is , i have an ATi radeon 7500 and it works flawless in the pc, and a friend of mine tested his radeon 9700 and it worked fine too , however when another friend of mine lent me his GF FX 5200 it didnt work either, so i must be guessing its an nvidia problem with my board , however i dunno what may have caused this because it used to work fine.

I bet that you have a bad Vidio Driver File..As this happend to freind of mine, First If you have Never gone into your "Regedit" then I suggest that you either get someone that has to help you, or dont blame me if you delete something that you were not supposed to .But if you take your time you will be fine..Go to "Start" and Run, now type in Regedit, then hit OK, Go to HKEY_LOCAL_USER, go down to the +Software, open it, go down to NVIDIA and Highlight it and Delete, Now go back and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, go to the +Software, Go to NVIDIA, highlight and DELETE, Thats it for the Registry..Now go to Control Panel, "Add and Remove Programs" and Find any NVIDIA Vidio Drivers, and Remove...Then your PC will ReBoot, and now you can Load Fresh New NVIDIA "Forceware" Drivers and you should be just fine.......Post back and let us Know if it worked for you, or if you still have Issues, OK?...........Sean REILLY875

  • MS-6340M /GeForce FX 5200 problem??? Help!

I just bought the MS-6340 motherboard with Athlon 1.1 gig processor.  I also bought the new Gainward 660/Pro nVidia GeForce FX 5200 128MB Video Card.  THe Card is a 8X AGP and the motherboard has a 4X AGP slot.
My problem is that my computer completely freezes up all the time with that card in.  I've put older cards in and the PC runs fine.  I've currently have Windows XP, but I started out installing WIndows ME and 2000, and it locked up on them all.  I have the latest 44.03 nVidia drivers installed.  I also have the latest 4.7 BIOS installed for the motherboard.
Has anybody had a similar problem?  Any help would be appreciated.

i have a GeForce FX 5200 and i have just a heatsink, no fan, and i overclock QUITE a bit, i bought off newegg.com, a universal video card fan, that works on 5200's, and now i can overclock past fx5200 ULTRA speeds!!!!!! its awesome!!! this fan is a vantec, and also comes with thermal paste, check it out, for $6.05, its awesome!  click here - http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-110-102&depa=0
or, go with the copper one, little bit more $$ though - http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-110-103&depa=0
that definentally should be sufficient cooling

  • 645 Ultra and Geforce 4200, major problems, please help!!

I have read through this forum and have seen different problems with this mobo and geforce cards, so first here is my set up.
    P4 1.6A
    645Ultra Rev 1 Bios 1.9
    Visiontek 4200 128mb ddr
    IBM Hard Disk 7200 rpm
    300W Codegen PS
    256 Corsair DDR333
Let me put it like this: With just the video card in, and "installing" winxp on a fresh formatted drive. The card/board crashes the install. I had been using a radeon 7500 on my system for awhile with no problems, but wanted more power, so bought geforce 4. Did the clean uninstall of radeon drivers, bla bla, and install the geforce 4. Nothing but problems, randoms hangs, and eventually would not even let me boot past the bios screen. When I boot in safe mode, it crashes my computer. When I put back in the radeon, no problems.
So I reformatted my whole comp, knowing anyway that it was not xp, so I had to use the radeon to reinstall xp since installer crashes with geforece card.(bye the way I tried my older geforce256 SDR, and same problems). I install fresh system, but do not install radeon drivers, turn off comp, put in geforce card on fresh install, again no drivers, and it still crashes my system...random hangs. So I install the drivers from the install CD, forgot which version, and again still crashes. So can anyone help me. This is clearly a mobo card conflict.
Could it be IRQ settings or Powersupply not enough?
    Thanks for any help

I would not say it is a PSU problem as you have the same issues with the other cards.
IRQ could be if you have anything plugged in PCI slot 1 and 2.

  • MSI Geforce 4800SE reinstall problem

When my captures stopped working with the vivo after a friend changed the dual display settings,  I tried to reinstall the drivers after an uninstall.  Problem is,  When I go to the Add Hardware Wizard,  Only ati pops up, which was uninstalled along time ago.  So I select Have Disk, and click the nv4_disp.inf of my msi driver directory and nothing happens, I go back to the beginning where I have to choose select disk.  So I try to use Device manager with show hidden devices checked, and agp adapter isn't even in there to use?  Also Scanning for new devices does nothing.  Help!?  Any different roads to take? I don't want to have to reformat as it would be to much work to burn all my Video captures at this time.

    Try this: nVidia driver fix
Don't use the MSI drivers, go download the 41.09 drivers from nVidia's site and the 43.45? drivers have been giving ppl problems so I don't recommend using them...
