Geforce fx5900 K7n420

I was just wondering if anyone here has had any success getting a Geforce FX 5900 or 5900U to run on a K7n420. I've read on this fourm that the MSI version won't fit. How about any of the other brands like BFG, PNY ect.... How about any of the other FX cards 5600u ??
Thanks

Geforce ti4600
Win XP Home SP1

Well I tried a BFG FX5900 128mb tonight on my K7N420.  It fit in the slot ok but everytime I tried to boot I would get strange looking bars on the screen just before & durning the windows XP loading screen. Then as computer would be ready to go into windows. The screen would go black and the monitor would lose signal.
Before installing the FX card I used driver cleaner to clean out old drivers. I'm running bios 2.7 on my K7N420 with Windows XP home SP1 & 2.03 Nforce drivers.
My power supply is 350 watts. I was thinking that maybe my power supply might be the problem but I just tried an ATI 9800 Pro & it installed & ran fine with no problems that I could see. Does the FX 5900 need more power than the 9800 Pro?
Maybe I just got a bad card or maybe there is a problem with the K7N420 & the FX5900? . Has anyone got any Geforce FX5900 (Pny,BFG, Asus ect....) to run on the K7N420 pro? I really would like to know, I have searched the fourm here & at NforcesHQ & could not find an answer to this question. Maybe I should just get a 9800 Pro & be done with it. It would be funny if a 9800Pro would run fine on this Nvidia chipset board & Nvidia's FX could not.

  • [GeForceFX] Geforce Fx5900 TD128 Issues

Im getting graphical artifacts on the windows boot screen and the chkdsk screen that comes up sometimes on Windows XP SP2. Occurs on boot screen on Linux as well, but everything seems fine in Windows after it boots.  I've tried everything to fix this, bios updates to computer and video card. Also tried various drivers, but no luck. Also thinking of RMA'ing it, but Im worried that MSI doesn't have any 5900's left. Any advice ?

I updated the SiS drivers, Im thinking this is a BIOS issue of some sort. I even tried flashing to the latest MSI 5900 bios version. Still trying to get the time to bring this to a friend's comp to run it in. Maybe an incompatibility with my ECS K7S5A Pro motherboard ? Slot works as I put a Geforce 2MX in there and it didn't bring up the same problem. I will know more as soon as I am able to test in a friend's motherboard and will post the results
I have also managed to capture the problem, here is a link to the jpeg. http://www.evoteam.net/wc/artifact.jpg  notice the vertical line on the lower right of the boot logo. This is also after a fresh install of XP and happens during boot which I suppose rules out a driver issue

  • GeForce FX5900 Ultra runs really cool and silent

Today i had opportunity to test a bit GF FX5900 Ultra and it is really more silent as GF FX 5800. So i can really recommend. :-)  :D

Yes we're all waiting with baited breathe to get our hands on one too Vojtech! Anything to make this fan noise in my office diminish would be a plus!! *Not to mention the video capability of this card heheheh*

  • MSI GF FX5900 TD128 Problems

I recently bought a new GeForce FX5900 TD128 from MSI and I am having a couple of problems. I am geeting some frequent crashes in games such as Morrowind (every 30 minutes to every hours). The problem is the same in other 3D applications. Could the problem be related to DirectX9.0a? Should I reinstall DirectX8.1? Should I try seeting the BIOS (and the card) to AGP 4X? Or is the card deffective (It runs fine in 2D applications and on the desktop).
    here are my system specifications:
Motherboard: MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR (Original BIOS)
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3000+
    Memory: 2X512K of Crucial DDR400 (Non Dual-Channel)
    Graphic card: MSI GeForce FX5900 TD128 (Nvidia's 4.4.0.3 drivers)
    Screen: Samsung Flat 19"
    Sound: Onboard sound
    Power Supply: Antec 480W

Sorry for getting back to you so late.  I had to travel a bit for work.  My card is set at AGP 4X and everything is fine.  Thanks a lot.  It's always the same thing when you buy new hardware... You got to be patient.  At least, I got less problems then my friend with his new Radeon 9800 that crashes all the time :D.
By the way, sorry for my bad english...  I come from Montreal and I'm french canadian...  It's been a long time since I had to write in English...
    Thanks again

  • Need graphics card

hello i just recently bought a refurbished computer and i am hooking it up to my hd tv. my resolution on the computer doesnt go to 1920x1080. do i need to upgrade my graphics card and if so how do i know what to buy. please remember when answering i am a woman lol and i only know how to use the computer dont know anything about what goes on inside it. lol thank you

If she wants to do HD on her TV, she's going to need a halfway decent graphics card. An onboard 256MB ATI chipset is going to struggle if she's wanting to do full 1080p video.
The question is whether she wants to do 1080p (requires a Blu-Ray drive) or just Hulu/Netflix/etc.  Note that Adobe Flash is notoriously CPU-hungry and until recently didn't take advantage of modern graphics chipsets at all.  (Now it sort-of does.)
That said - Even the integrated graphics that came with an Athlon 62 x2 should be able to drive 1920x1080.  Heck, I watched 1080i ATSC recordings with a 2.0 GHz Athlon XP 2800+ and a GeForce FX5900.  (Which had VERY little in terms of 2D acceleration capabilitys - MPEG-2 motion compensation was about it.)

  • Need Original BIOS for 5900Ultra

I have an MSI NBOX nVidia GeForce FX5900 Ultra. I messed up the BIOS, and need a copy of the Original cuz i accidentally deleted the backup I made. The ony 5900U BIOS files I have found online or some Starforce version. I know that's not what I had before. Anybody know where I can get a copy of the original BIOS for my VGA card? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Later!

Hey, thanks for the BIOS file. It flashed fine, but now I realized you have a different card then me. Here is a picture of my card:
    http://www.gamers-depot.com/hardware/video_cards/msi/5900u/shot1.htm
I don't think thats what you have cuz the BIOS still refers to the card as a Starforce, whatever the hell that is. Either way, thx for your help. Hopefully someone else can do the same if they have my same card. So, if anyone has this video card (MSI NBOX FX5900U 256MB), plz send me a copy of ur BIOS. Thx in advance, later!

  • Think maybe I have a defect neo2plat

    Hi Guys
I just bought myself a new computer yesterday and used all night putting it together. When I started up the system, everything went fine until the first reboot (windows xp installation was finish copying files).
When the system rebooted, it said detecting ide devices..and it took about 5 mins before it finally gave up and reported that no harddrive was attached.
After this I pushed the reset button and the system found my disk and contiuned installing windows.
After som struggle with the problem described above, windows installed and everything runs smoothly, except when I reboot. Its like 50/50 chance the motherboard finds my harddrive.
Another problem, that may be related, is that sometimes the system will just stop booting after showing the windows xp boot screen. (screen just goes black)
    My system is:
    MSI NEO2-PLAT
    AMD XP3500+
    1024 MB Kingston HyperX
200 GB SATA Maxtor DiamondMax 10
    Geforce FX5900 GFX
    500W Chill Innovation PSU
    Noname IDE DVD-drive
    BIOS ver 1.2
I hope you guys can help me sort this out. Or maybe agree that is has to be the motherboard.
(I ran a hardrive check, but it found no errors)
    Best regards
    Shamran

a small update about my problem.
I have installed a 80GB SATA seagate now, and removed the 200GB  SATA maxtor diamondmax 10 from the system
I have been rebooting all day now, and it seems like the problem is gone when im using the new disk.
Now, can anyone tell me what this means? :)
    1. 200GB SATA is not supported by the motherboard with the current BIOS version.?
    2. My Powesupply is too small for the 200GB disk to work properly?
    3. I got a defect Maxtor harddrive
    Best regards

  • MSI GeForceFX 5900 Ultra 256mb N-box prob...

I recently acquired a new VGA, it’s a MSI NBOX nVidia GeForce FX5900 Ultra 256MB DDR2 8x AGP video card and I’m having some problems with it.  Before this card I had a GeForce 3 Ti 200.  I know the basics about motherboards but I don’t know them inside and out.  Basically I know the slots and such, but I don’t really know what board I own.  I believe it is a M810LR motherboard and I’m running an amd athlon 1.2 Ghz processor on it with 512 RAM with I believe 310 watt power supply.
Anyway that is my system I’m running on so onto the problem.  I installed the card into the AGP slot, and it fit nicely.  I powered on the PC and it worked, I saw all proper boot up screens, I got to windows ME and of course my desktop pixel quality and color was dumb down because I assume the question of new hardware.  I put in the driver CD and installed the driver that came with the VGA no problems with the installation, then of course it asked to restart and I allowed it to.  I saw all the correct boot up screens and when I got past the windows ME screen, my monitor went blank when it should have showed my desktop.  The monitor was acting like it was not receiving any signal; I checked the connection and it was good.  The monitor was acting like it wasn’t receiving anything so I restarted, and again the same problem.
I forced the system to start up in safe mode and it worked, but of course you cant get to a CD drive in safe mode and I want it to run outside of safe mode so I tried one more time in normal mode and the screen went blank again.  It was working before with the regular nVidia driver before I installed the MSI driver so I figured I would try that, so I took out the GeForce FX5900 ultra and put my old GeForce 3 Ti 200 back in my PC so I could see what I was doing.  Worked fine, so I reinstalled the nVidia driver turned off the PC and put the GeForce FX back in the PC, turned it on and saw all the proper boot up screens, got past the windows ME screen, got to my desktop, and 30 seconds later it freezes, I try it 4 more times and every time it ends up with 30-60 seconds of working fine then the freeze.
I heard great things about MSI products and I would just like mine to work properly.

Ive been dreading upgrading to win XP for a while now, to afraid that I will loose some games or info (like GTA 2).. but im ready and going to upgrade it in 4-5 days. Oh and dont worry if it dosent work, you'll hear from me

  • Mega 865 configuration - will it work?

    Hi there
I am just about to take the plunge and build myself a Mega 865 and have a few concerns over what I intend.  The configuration I am thinking of is as follows:
    Mega 865
    P4 3.0Ghz 512 cache 800fsb
    2 x Corsair 512Mb DDR400/PC3200
Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 160Gb Serial ATA 7200 8Mb Cache
    MSI DR8-A2 DVD-RW
    MSI GeForce FX5900XT
    Nebula Digitv PCI card
    My concerns are as follows:
    1) Will the GeForce FX5900 physically fit in the Mega 865?
    2) Will the PSU supply enough power for this configuration?
    3) Will temperature be a problem?
Any advice on the above would be greatly appreciated, along with any other issues that I may have overlooked.
    TIA
    Blinkie

1: It will eventually fit when you carefully route the power wires.
2: Don't know, if your're lucky: be aware that the PSU has effectively about 200W (when heat is involved)
3: Heat will be a problem but can be managed: look at the thread of Anakin on this forum.
Check for the serial ATA connector onboard. I don't know about the 865, but although the 180 has a serial ATA power connector, it cannot be connected to the motherboard.

  • Building my first system and having probs

Hi everyone. I'm building my first computer system consisting of the following components. I'm having all kinds of problems getting it to work. Evertthing was purchased in the last week or so.

I've put this together no less then 12 times now and still cannot get the system to work at all. The only thing I've noticed in the mobo manual that I can't do is the power LED wire(Which I cannot find in the case at all despite taking everything apart numerous times).
Will the lack of a plugged in power LED keep this from starting up?
    Problems I been having
Once I connect the IDE cable to the HD and then to the board the HD doesnt spin. Disconnecting the IDE from the mobo and leaving it plugged into the power supply and turning it on gets the HD spinning. Putting this HD in another computer worked just fine. Taking a working HD from another comp does the same thing when the IDE gets plugged into the mobo.
No Power LED light and reset switch doesnt work, even though the reset switch is in the correct place.
No display when I get it powered up. Comp shows a blue screen that says something like please check display. The vid card works in my other computer just fine. Taking a working vid card from a working computer and placing it in this one does not work either.
I tried to just do the basics. Vid card, CPU, memory, floppy drive, power supply and still no luck.
I'm very new at this and my only idea is that I got a bad motherboard.(I ordered all the components at newegg.com and compuplus.com). Is there any other ideas anyone has that may help me get this up and running before I take it to a computer shop?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi shadowizar,
I could tell you the "Blah Blah" on building systems.....but hey...you intelligent enough.
First, disconect all drives......all you need to boot is:
    1)MB
    2)CPU
    3)Ram
    4)PSU
    5)VGA Card (Graphics......especially placed for Reilly875!!!! LOL)
    6) Monitor
    Do you receive, boot?
BTW......I did not include case for a reason.....make sure the motherboard is not "fouled" on the case at all.......ie a screw lodged between MB & Case/MB plate

  • Nvidia system sentinal

I recently purchased a new system with an MSI geforce FX5900 ultra. The power supply is quite small, as it is a SFF system (unavoidable at the moment).
If the system is running in high performance, read games, for a long period of time, then occasionally i will get a pop up from somthing called the nvidia system sentinal, that will complain about my video card not recieving enough power, and to check its supplemental power connector.
The supplemental connector is attached fine. The problem is not so much the pop up, which also says it is reducing the speed (power, whatever) of the card to try and fix the problem. The problem is that this same pop up message cascades, creating 10s and 10s of rundll processes, and fills up the task lists quite quickly.
Is there a way of making the message appear once? or shut it off?

using 52.16 yes, was on the 45.23 (?) version before and was same issue.
do you think underclocking would help, i currently dont have any tweak programs, and with standard 52.16 drivers i cant alter its clock speed.
are there any tweak programs that tell me voltage used with a 'cut off' level or something...and what underclocking program..lol...should i use?

  • How to keep your MSI Clock Settings.

    To all:
I've got known that many MSI VGA card users complain that they are not able to keep their clock settings after doing some adjustment after a restart. I've been able to keep the settings even after a shutdown and cold boot up. I've also trial and test after many times to confirm these steps.
1st: Do the necessary adjustment you want.
2nd: Test the adjustment with BenchMarks Tools to make sure that it can run under that particular enviroment.
3rd: Once everything is tested and proves to be OK, go to "settings" tab in Display Properties.
    4th: Click on "Advanced" button.
5th: Click on "GeForce FX5900 Ultra(Depending on your card model)" tab.
6th: Click on "Ok" Note: A warning message from nVidia will appear telling you that you've chosen the clock adjustment for every startup of the system and if the system fail to bootup using that settings, you'll have to press on Ctrl button to reset back to defaults settings.
    7th: Restart System
    8th: Re-check clock settings.
    All the Best... !!!
