  • Msi GeForce 4 4200 frame rate locked at 60 with Windows 2000

Lost here..... I have an MSI Geforce 4 4200 120MB Video Card slotted on an Asus A7V motherboard - AMD Thunderbird 1Ghz processor with 640mb of ram.
There is a common problem with the Nvidia chip and Windows 2000 in regards to a lock frame rate at 60fps within games.
I've tried several programs to fix this i.e. "Refresh Lock", "Windows 2000/XP Nvidia Refresh rate lock", "PowerStrip 3.15" and "NVFresh Tool 1.0"
But nothing seems to work. I'm sure these program work with older Nvidia cards but not with GeForce 4.
Any Ideas? I even turned the Vsync off and on.
    HELP!

(A little advice: If you can, dump XP and install a copy of Windows 2000 second edition. They both have the same KERNAL but I find that Win 2000 is much more compatible for now. I give XP 2 more years before it's the OS for all. I've reinstalled 6 systems with Windows 2000 because of compatibility problems.)

i'm happy with my ti200 but if i was upgrading from something worse today i'd probably go with a ti4200.  since i have my ti200 already though i'll be waiting for something from nvidia that's a little better than what they've been showing... depending how long i have to wait an ati 9500pro or 9600pro would be my destination.

  • Another Thread on GeForce 4 4200 lockups

    Hi.
I am struggling with my 4200. It locks up whenever I play newer games, such as UT2k3 and Morrowind, but it doesn't have any problem running Wheel of Time (which is about 3 years old).
At first it was doing the random rebooting 3-5 minutes into the game, like everyone else has been complaining. So, I went out about got a new 400W PSU (235W combined) and that didn't fix a thing. Needless to say, I returned it since I couldn't afford it in the first place :p
Now, I've reformatted my computer, with a fresh Win2000 install, and I'm still having problems. It doesn't reboot now, instead of crashes to a blue screen and gives me this error:
    "*** STOP: 0x0000001E ( 1x00000005, 0xBA7515C3, 0x00000001, 0x00000000)
    KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Any ideas on what to do?

  • GeForce Ti 4200

I am experiencing warp in the most games. This happened after I installed the lastest video card BIOS with the help of MSI live update 3.
Is there any solution to this problem? Can i get the old BIOS back?
    thanks

    SUCCESS!!!
Yeah, I got my Gamecube running on my computer now. All I had to do was download the capture drivers for my card and then get them loaded on my computer. I did have to use my XP professional disk to load drivers when my comp ideentified the new hardware. That was a big hassle because it was totally confusing. Now I have a new question:
How do I run the video in on fullscreen with Winproducer? The view choices only go 1x and then 2x is disabled.
I did download a freeware video capture program called FLYCAP but it wont let me take screen shots... It does let you resize the screen to whatever you want but...
Anyone know how to get fullscreen on Wionproducer?
    Thanks. )

  • GeForce 4ti 4200 Win2k Problem

    Ok, here is my problem..
I am currently dual booting with Win2k and Win98. In windows 98 the video card and drivers work fine.
Win2k is the problem, I have tried installing the detonator 30 and 40 drivers but when I restart my pc it still uses the VGASAVE drivers.  It then locates the video card and installs the drivers again, then says I need to reboot.  It continues in this cycle after every reboot.
Could it be the driver signing element in Win2k.

ok. so anyone has this card ??? cause here in czech, there no dealers for now, and how much it caust ?????

  • GeForce 4200 - AMD and Games Crashing

    Right, rig is as follows:
    AMD AthlonXP2100+
    Soundblaster Live
    512MB DDR Ram
    MSI Geforce 4 4200 64MB Ram Card
ECS Motherboard (has LAN etc on board)
OK, so i had Windows XP with SP1 installed and everything worked fine, the powersupply was a 300Watt Supply with  +3 & +5 Rated at 165W.
Games such as MOHAA, SOF2, 007 - Nightfire and Spearhead (addon for MOHAA) all crashed at random. No error messages, just forze and only a hard reset would fix this.
I read this board and came to the conclusion that every time somebody mentioned this problem, always the same answer, PSU +3 & +5 must be 200+.
So, off I went to the shop and bought a 550Watts Powersupply, at this was the only one which went above 200+ - In fact it was 285Watts. Strange then that a 400 Watt Supply was rated at 185Watts..
Anyhow, fitted PSU and first thign i noticed was the system booted MUCH fatser (god knows why.. just did).
But... The games till crashed at random BUT..... UT2003 and other games not based on Quake3 did not crash at all... ever.
So... Here i am wasting good money on a PSU which is Way over the top for this system becuase of what is said on these boards.
In fact, after much testing... I have found the answer, and the problem only occurs when Windows XP SP1 is installed..... So maybe people shoudl think about this...

Just an idea, I would make sure that you are not overheating the cpu.  Look in your bios to see if you have health/temp monitors on.  Games like that can really tax the cpu and heat it up.  Amd CPU's are known for this.  If thermal paste is in place on the chip and you have a good enough fan, and adequate air flow in the case look for anothr problem.  I would start there with your CPU tempatures.

  • MSI ti 4200 128 MB and Problems with "Need for Speed: HighStakes"

Does any one know of a fix for "Need for Speed: HighStakes" with the new 45.32 drivers. When trying to start this game it won't even load, the screen goes dark for a second and then falls back to the desktop. Did the same thing with 43.45, but if I install the drivers that came with the Video card ( I think they were 31.XX) then the game works fine. Haven't come across any other games that won't run except this one, some examples that work fine are UT 2003, C&C: Generals, Warcraft 3, Hot Pursuit 2.
    System:
XP pro OS (sevice pack 1) DirectX 9
    Athlon 1800
    512 MB RAM
    MSI nforce 2 Main board
    MSI GeForce 4 4200 ti 128 MB 8X AGP
    Thanks for any info.

well I "bugged" the game makers (EA) and the response is that the game doesn't suport Windows XP. Strange that the older nVidia 31.xx drivers work fine with the game. Also played it on my last machine which had XP and a ATI radeon video card. OH well who ever said Direct X was supposed to be backward compatible.
Too bad the older drivers don't work so well with the newer games.

  • How do I get XP2200+ up to speed1800MHZ?

Am I getting what I should for performance i.e. CPU freq of 1350?
I am a serious gamer using sims like MS CFS2 and FS2004
    WHAT I HAVE:
    current CPU clock is 1350MHZ
    CPU/FSB clock is 100MHZ
    current DRAM clock is 166MHZ
I have been reading posts for two days now, learning a lot of do's and don'ts.
In advanced bios I changed video bios cacheable to enable.
In advanced chipset, CPU/FSB clock form 100MHZ to 166MHZ
FSB spread spectrum from 0.50% to disable
                                   System bios cacheable to enable
                                   Video ram cacheable to enable
I left everything else alone including AGP arpeture size @ 64MB.
WELLL, I couldn't reboot afterwards! Glad I was familiar with this forum as I was able to get things going again thanks to the tips on CLEARING CMOS. After several atempts I was finally successful by jumping J10 in safe mode before clearing CMOS, but it took more that a minute to do before it finally worked, I left it for 15 minutes or so before it booted.
Everything back to where it was now...what did I do wrong please? What can I do right?

Thanks Scooter & Super 10!!! That was simple enough, eventhough it should have been done at the store when it was built for me. I'm sure there must be a few other tricks I could do to mod this up just a bit without getting into SERIOUS OCing.
Any suggestions or perhaps places to look? I noticed when comparing 3DMark03 scores that many with similar set ups using NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4200's had Video Mem @ 128MB instead of 64MB as I do...would that be under Advanced Chipset, Video Ram Cacheable (enable) and AGP Arpeture Size = (64MB) 128MB?
    Thanks for all your help!

  • What causes the KT3 Ultra 2 not booting?

    Hi,
I have a mobo KT3 Ultra2 (MS-6380E ver:1.0) and Athlon +2100 since 1 year now. It worked flawlessly, without overclocking, until last August when suddently it started to fail at boot. I thought the problem was due to the hot summer we got here. I unmounted the heatsink (Zalman CNPS6000-Cu), cleaned it and mounted again using white thermal paste. The maximum temperature given by the CPU sensor was 50 Celsius. The computer worked for few days and the problem showed up again. Then I thought was the memory (512MB transcend, TS64MLD64V3F5). I phoned (Nokia 6210) the shop (funprice) and brought the stick back for testing and they said it was okay. Curiously, the problem went away and I enjoyed a nice September free of problems.
Two days ago the same problem returned when I tried to install Mandrake 9.2. Firstly, the installation program hanged randomly at different stages, so I tryed different versions and OSes but the problem persisted.
At this moment the computer doesnt boot at all except if I clear the BIOS (A6380VMS v5.5). Cleaning the CMOS only allows me to reboot the computer few times, then it stops booting. usually, it doesnt show any video signal  (GeForce Ti-4200 TD8 and Samsung SyncMaster 750S) although the PSU (Enermax EG365AX-VE(G) of 353W) is working. Sometimes it hangs during the hard disk detection (maxtor 6Y060L0 and Plextor PX-W8432T), and some others it shows have of the summary table.
I really dont know what is happening here. I looked in this forum and some threads describe some of the symptoms I see, but the solutions given dont help me. I tried many different settings in BIOS, and even the factory settings alone. I tried some BIOS settings combinations of FSB clock Auto/manual (100/133) and RAM SPD/manual (100/133).
I would really apreciate any sort of help. Thanks

Last night I tried to run the memory test program but the computer didnt boot at all. I took everything out and only the processor was installed (no memory and no video). The thing didnt make any beep. Not even clearing the CMOS helped. The D-brachet showed sometimes the 1,3,4 LEDs in red, but most of the times only the 1,2 LEDs were in red. If the user guide is right, then it is a problem in the IDE controller.
Well, it was too late. I decided to have some sleep
This morning I tried again and worked!!! The thing beeped because there was no memory installed. Shutdonw. Quickly, I installed the the memory and video. Start. Works. I get into the BIOS to change the FSB clock from 100 to 133 (I guess, my Athlon XP +2100 uses 133MHz FSB). Save changes and reboot. Nothing, the LEDs 1,2 were in red :( Shutdown. Clear the BIOS. Start. Works. I ran the memtest program. I observed for some minutes and the 3 first tests passed OK, so I left the thing working for more hours. The final results will be posted here tomorrow.
I know that some computer problems get resolved overnight, but this too weird. Whats going on here?
Please, any sugestion or comment may help to save me the money of a new mobo.

  • MB 915/G Combo MS-7058 video card options or suggestions on the new market

First off my apologies. I wasn't sure which forum to place my question under,
    Retired Motherboards or Video Cards.
Quick summary I'm looking to upgrade my video card on an older mother board and have run into problems with a new board working. I think the problem is a backwards compatibility issue.  I need help  with a list of what video cards I can buy that are available new preferably if not a list of where to go and what to watch for. I would like to increase the speed/ram. My skill level is around, open the case swap out the item and insert the disk. With a search forums and try to find the answer/follow directions or suggestions.
    In more detail,
I'm looking to upgrade my video card from NVIDIA GeForce 6 Series  NX-6600  256mb card on a an MSI 915P/G combo. The install/instruction manual lists under the above combo name MS-7058 (v1.X) ATX Motherboard and  below the image of the board there is also the text of G52-M7058x1.
The video card option for placement is in the sole PCI Express X16 slot (no on motherboard graphics and/or connection options I know of)   and I assuming from what I've tried researching that the PCI Express x1(mentioned elsewhere but all suggestions were cards no longer for sale) is some sort of standard of limit and my motherboard is too old despite newer cards fitting into the slot and claiming backwards compatibility to the "PCI Express or Pci Express 2.0".
Part of that possible assumption of my issue comes from the fact the mother board can have ether DDR1 or DDR2 ram for memory  but a video card with DDR3 ram would not work. Also the software from the included disk and from the from the website install correctly for the card to function other than the basic windows drivers leaving the card unable to run any games.   For reference the video card purchased and tried was a  EVGA Geforce GT 610 SC9super clocked) with 2 GB of DDR3 Memory. Which i hopefully will have returned for a refund soon.  I spent most of the day trying to install the software by their program , by launching from disk directly, from downloading the most current version from the manufacturer's website and checking with Microsoft for possible system change updates.
My original invoice August 2005 lists the  pre order lists the Item VGMS-NX6600/256E   then under description MSI NX6600-TD256E/PCIEX/256MB for the grand price of $169.00  deleviery receipt lists the card as item VGXM-X66DHEJTZ1   Description XMEDIA 6600 256MB PCIE DVI/TV
Power Supply 630 watts installed July 2008 I can not get the full listings of voltage and amps per connectors without taking the powers supply loose from the case(which requires shutting the system off, so I hoping I won't need to but will if the information will help). I do not feel power is an issue due to the size and the power supply was unneeded upgrade,  that I just wanted to replace when swapping out a motherboards damaged from a lighting hit or power surge. System was running fine for years.
    General system information
Windows XP professional SP3 All updates current.
    Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz
2.00 GB of Ram DDR 1
    Videocard  NVIDA 6600   Driver 6.14.12.9573
3 hard drives of varying sizes 500GB,1TB and 2TB  Plus one external  with external power supply 1.5TB drive
If more information is needed please let me know.
The best advice and help would be a list of currently for sale video cards that will work with links to places (and the actual model even better) like New Egg,  or if there is such a card at the local Best Buy(outstanding advice on this non compatible/working card....I won't digress into my own mistake of buying there). I'm way out of date on information and standards about computers and hardware and need help  figuring out what Video Cards to look at for purchasing.   Preferably new, then re manufactured with warranty then used...  The main game I play that strains my system but is playable is call of duty modern warfare 2 and would like to run 3 if possible. Although better rates with COD MW2 and COD 4 MW.

100% correct on the mother board
The card I had tried was EVGA---GeForce-GT-610 2GB DDR3 I can't post external links but it was from Best Buy. The  box claimed requirements are that it needs PCI Express or PCI Express 2.0 compliant motherboards with one open graphic slot.  The best I could get out of it was slightly working with Windows XP basic driver which no games would run. No selecting drivers helped from the Add Hardware program.
So I should make sure it lists "PCI Express X16" and  " version 1 " "1MB(in reference to what part?)" or words to that effect?  I was mislead by the box above for capability and "NVIDIA" on it, am I correct in assuming it was a generic whore knock off which bought the rights to stick NVIDIA name on the outside for a standard or software?  Especially since the actual video card says EVGA and not NVIDIA on it....  I won't make that mistake hopefully again.
Due to age I was buying a cheap fill in card,(old one was working fine but I figured a good training/practice exercise and to see how much better the games looked  to encourage me going forward on my first build) until I can start ordering and building to  the current upgradeable standards.   I'm trying to catch up on standards and not  have a firewire or zipdrive experience. Although I might put a 5 1/4 disk drive in unused bay for show    I would prefer not to buy another per-assembled option and decent computer part stores near me are lacking. Or I lack knowledge of their locations. If it matters I'm in Charlotte, NC USA
My budget is up to about $200 although I would like to stay around $100.00 (usa dollars) if possible. I think that gives me realistic options even with places like Best Buy. If I'm not, please correct me. I'm aware best Buy will give me a special 30-50% price increase  but my local options for shops are hurting, the "best place for reputation" is a story of shame.

  • Video in..how do i know it's working

I have finally got around to trying the video in feature on my GeForce 4 4200ti vtd 8x.  I have the latest nvidia wdm capture drivers installed properly, but every time I try to use winproducer to capture a composite video signal from my vcr I am given the message..."unable to start recording".
This version of win producer came bundled with the card, and, as a result of other software "bundle problems", I decided to try a full retail version of the same program.
    Guess what......."unable to start recording".
My question is this........how can I check the card itself to see if the video in even works?
I have no problems in my device manager, and I usually know what I am doing(LOL).
    Any suggestions?
