GeForce4 Ti on K7T-266 Pro ??

I've just installed my new MSI GeForce4Ti4200 128mB on my "old" K7T-266 Pro board, and i get the infinite loop hangup.
(Prior to installing I did a diskformat and reinstalled XP), I'm using the same Via and NVidia drivers as I used when my GF2 pro card was on the board, which worked flawless.
From reading tons of posts on different forums today, I've learned that the GF4 uses a lot more power than a GF2 card, so the reason for the loop may be insufficient power-supply.
At the moment my ps is a 340W Chieftec.
Before spending cash on a new 450 - 500W power supply, - has anybody got a GF4 card to work on this board (with or without a massive power supply) ?
And if you got it working without a new ps, - How did you do it ??
thanks :(

Hi,
I have
- MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU
- MSI nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4400-VTD (AGP4X)
- Chieftec HPC-300-202 (300W total, 5V/25A, 3.3V/20A)
- a lot of other stuff (see my earlier thread)
and it worked fine in WinXP for almost a year until just recently when I now get blue screens. I've started a new thread here some day ago about my problem and it seems to be either memory or motherboard error. My thread: K7T266 Pro2-RU unstable and memory errors
In your case I don't think it's the PSU, but I might be wrong.

  • K7T 266 Pro 2 problem

    Hi
I'm experiencing quite an annoying problem with my MSI K7T 266 Pro 2 mainboard.
    The situation is this:
A bootable CD of mine asks me to 'press any key to boot from cd'
But it does not respond when I type... This seems to be a hardware problem: My keyboard doesn't seem to be useable at that time ( next to the aforementioned problem, num lock won't switch on or off )
It works perfectly before that ( i can press delete to get into the bios ) and after Windows starts booting it works again.
Is there any way to fix this ? My bios version is AMI BIOS 3.1 ( I haven't had a chance to flash the bios to 3.7 yet ).
Perhaps there's a BIOS setting that is causing this ?
    With regards,

the promise controller (as far as i know the: pdc 20265, fasttrack 100) won't start after install of both windows 2000 professional and windows 2003 server enterprise. In both cases it gives the errormessage: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
    I've tried the following:
using the latest bios version: v 1.9 013102
load latest promise drivers from msi site both with install and after install
2 operating systems: win 2k prof & win2k3 serv. ent.
I'm really don't know what to try next, anyone any clue what may cause the problem?
    Tnx a lot

    tnx for your reply osnavi,
The psu goes well, np at all. I finally found the reason of the problem: I downloaded the driver for the pdc 20265, where i should have choosen the fasttrack 100 Raid driver.

  • K7T 266 Pro (6380) + 0.13 micro = ?

Does my motherboard MSI K7T266 Pro(6380) work with a 0.13 micro AMD prozessor? Does it work with prozessors over 2000+? Will there be a new bios release? :O

it seems that Athlons with new smaller core does not work in this motherboard. is there going to be a new BIOS supporting new CPUs?
it's really not fair that I bought the CPU 1700+ XP because I know my MB supports till 1800+ XP and then I find out it doesn't  ;(

  • K7t 266 pro

i was wondering if anyone knows if the k7t266 pro is compatible with the new xp thouroughbred cores or do i need to upgrade my mobo to use it?

    Hi there,
I'm thinking that your CPU cooler isn't mounted or cooloing the right way....
And because the CPU is idle in the BIOS it would stay on all the time, but when loading Windows it's doing lots of stuff, so it get's hot very fast....
Try setting the FSB at 100 and see if you can load the OS, if you can, remove the cooler, regrease it and put it on again....
But beware, there is ONLY 1 way to put it on, but you can mount it wrongly as the clips fit 2 way's.....
It also could be that your cooler is too small for the CPU....

  • K7T 266 Pro2 sound error

    Hi,
    I have a MSI K7T 266 PRO 2.
Recently, i can´t get sound from the sound card integrated in the motherboard (Realtek AC'97 Audio).
Windows XP recognizes the card in the system options but doesn´t recognize in the audio options (Control Painel). I updated the bios and the audio driver but doesn't work. In the Bios the AC'97 Audio is enable.
what should I do to resolve the problem? Anyone can help me?
    Thanks

Tell us if you have installed hardware lately, that might inflict the sound card. Is it working according to Device Manager? And don't panic. ( Panic leads to massacres.   ) Onboard devices might drop out from time to time, but following the advice you already got, it'll come back eventually.
I might ask those who know, I have heard that Windows always had trouble with sound. Is there any truth in this?

  • K7T 266 PRO2 will not recognize xp 1700+

    Hello
I have a K7T 266 PRO2 version 2 that has been flashed to the latest bios for that board. It should see up to a 2200+ xp processor. The board has been running a 900 thunderboard processor for 5 years now.
I did change the bios to 133 but it still does not see the xp 1700+  .  I do not see a jumper on the board for this so it must be changed in the bios.Any idea guys. This crap is  frustrating .

Is the 1700 a Palomino core or a Thoroughbred core cpu.  Check the OPN number on the cpu against the chart in this link.  Only the Palomino core will work.

Did you clear the cmos before trying to boot with the new processor?
What are the specs for the memory in the system?

  • K7T 266 Pro2 (6380 V3)

Three months ago I bought a K7T 266 Pro2 mobo.  When it arrived I thought great as it was the latest version - Ver3.
The is a minor problem with the sound, so I downloaded the latest drivers, but when it came to updating the bios, I realised the board is not supported by MSI.
In fact I have not seen anyone post a question about the 6380 V3. Is there anyone out there with the same Mobo as me?  Does anyone know if MSI intend to put it one their wesite?
    Thanks.

afaik, this board the K7T266 Pro2 (Ms-6380 Ver 3) is in fact a MSI board not a OEM as one (or two) reader(s) suggested.  My imagination tells me that this model was made in only small numbers as a possible kt266a version of the old MS6380LE, that is only my guess though.(The board sports the same boring old green colouration that the LE sports, rather than the expected red of the other K7TPRO2 boards).  I've also imagined that the production run was halted (maybe because of newer technology?) , and now we have a few 'lucky' owners out there with this board.
I, too, have not been able to upgrade the bios, it is currently running nicely with Award PG 6.0 which currently supports everything I have thrown at it.
The good news is that it is a KT266a chipset not the older KT266 that is one thing in it's favour.  As to support from MSI, I also have had difficulty locating any information about it.
btw....I have just sold this mobo, as I have bought myself a new SOYO dragon Plus to play with.
Good luck getting some support for this board!!

  • Early k7t-266 pro2-ru XP snafu

guess there's no avoiding saying that I'm new here in this forum, so there.
Anyway, I have a k7t-266 pro2-RU, one of the first boards that came out here in the Philippines, so it is definitely one of the early revs of this product.  I've had it for about a year, and had no problems with it.  It has the most recent bios version dated March, 2002.
My problem now is that it seems to break any Athlon XP CPU that I plug into it.  I've tried clearing bios, made sure that there's no special adjustment I need to do, whether jumper or bios based, made sure that the heatsink is seated properly every time, and generally tried every damn thing I could think of.  I've had no luck, so I'm running an Athlon 900 while I try to figure this out. (yes, the board works with non-XP cpu's)
I'd greatly appreciate any help from this forum.  I've been thinking along the lines of a voltage problem or just the fact that the board is an early sample... please help, I'm becoming desperate...

I removed all the drives and other peripherals until all that was connected were the board, mem, cpu, fan, vidcard, modem, keyboard and a case fan.  My power supply is an enermax 350 dual fan, so there shouldn't be any prob there...
Changing the FSB in Bios was one of the first things I tried to do, wonkaboy, but the CPUs break before I can even hit "Del" and enter bios, and besides, I'm pretty sure k7t266 pro2 ru has auto settings for FSB...
I appreciate the help, I'll keep trying on this side, hope I don't fry any more cpu's.fortunately, I work at a computer shop so it's pretty easy for me to have a non-physical damaged CPU replaced.
Any other suggestions will elicit another long winded reply from me. mbe I shud change my handle to longwind...

  • Driver K7t 266 pro2

    Hi,
I have a slight problem. I had to fomat my harddisk, and so ofcourse lost all the drivers on it. That wasn't the problem. However I seem to have lost both the box and the CD of my K7t 266 pro2 Via k7226a amdxp. Because of the drivers on the internet, everything works fine, exept the onboard sound ;( . I think I may have used the wrong driver for this. Can anyone tell me where I could find the right driver? Because I'm not to experienced (in computers) and I get a bit mixed up in the drivers mentioned. So any help would be appreciated. Thanx )

  • K7t 266 A Pro 2 RU Sound prob

    Hello,
When i use the AC'97 chipset for soundS or music, i 've got a problem, the sound is going out by one speaker only (the second is quite, and not as "heavy"  as anothere way( like if there are no "mass").
When i use my sound card (16bits sound card (fortissimo II)), then the sound is stereo and good.
do you know why ? is it a motherboard problem or sthg else ?
p.s:i try why pc speakers and Hifi speaker by a hifi amplifier, same result.

Yeah basically the sound card is done for, I tried various things and no sound was coming out whatsoever - yours sounds like one channel is down, I have come across a lot these cases in various pc's where the onboard sound card has died or is in a state of dying....

  • K7T 266 PRO2 RU Motherboard memory problems

    Hi Guys,
I have run the following configuration for just over 2 years now without any problems, that is until I decided to increase the RAM by 512MByte.
    K7T255ProRU motherboard - Bios 3.7,
    AMD Athlon 1.4GHz Socket A 266FSB (A1400AMS3C),
    2 x 256MB PC2100 CL2.5  - DDR Slots 1 and 2 (Crucial memory CT3264Z265)
    Heatsink Thermaltake VOLCANO 6 Cu,
    Matrox Millenium G550 32MDDR AGP,
    Fireball Plus 60.0GB UDMA100,
    NIC,
USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports connected,
    100Meg Zip Drive,
    Liteon DVD drive,
    TDK 32/10/40 CD writer,
Win XP Pro - fully updated.
PSU - Enhance Electronics Co 300W PSU
    +3.3v 20A, +5v 26A, +12v 13A, -12v 0.8A, -5v 0.5A, +5vsb 2A
    +3.3v & +5V Combined Load 175W
    +3.3v & +12v Combined Load 280W
So I bought a Crucial stick of 512MBytes PC2100 DDR RAM (CT6464Z265.16T) and installed it in slot three. Caused all sorts of Windows XP problems from blue screens to frreezes etc.
So I cracked out memtest86 and found that there were always memory failures around the boundaries of the 256/512 sticks no matter which slots they were located in (Test 10 gave the most errors). The only way that I could get the machine to pass the memory tests was to reduce the FSB to 100, bearing in mind that this machine has run for over 2 years with the high spec defaults loaded and the processor speed overclocked to nearly 1.5 GHz.
So I returned the memory to Crucial as faulty, they sent me a new stick. Same problems as the first one accept that this new stick will now run on its own at the high spec defaults and overclocked processor.
So I can either run with 2x256 or one 512 - not really what I had hoped for from a memory upgrade !!!
OK so one of my options is to shell out another £50 and see if a pair of 512 sticks will operate together as the 256 ones have.
Is there an inherent problem with running mix memory stick sizes on this mobo ?
Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Ade

your psu is very weak for all that stuff
try one gives 200 watts combined
seem to recall the boards not very good with 3x dimms as well
