Geforce4 Ti4200 8x 128mb - Issues

I have an MSI Geforce4 Ti4200 8x 128mb... that is causing random reboots/freezing while playing video games...
I swapped out the card entirely for a different older card and the system works perfectly...
So far I have reinstalled WinXP, which was needed anyways, tried mulitple different driver revisions etc...
no there is no OCing on this card, it has not been modified or changed in any way...
any help would be welcome...
or how to start the RMA process as its still under warranty...
Oh, system specs...
350 Watt Power Supply
2 HDD
2 CDR/RW/DVD Drives
AMD Athlon XP 2100+
512MB of RAM
MSI Geforce4 Ti4200 8x 128mb

yes i have the VTD 8X...
no overclocking... or anything...
Here is a list of PSU's that I found so far from newegg... any suggestions?

    ASUS P4S8X (+512 DDRAM)
    INTEL P4 2400+
    MSI GeForce4 TI4200 8X 128MB
My problem is that when playing :-) D3D games, the PC internal speaker makes BEEPS continously with irregular intervals.
No problem with MS office applications .
    No problem with DVD .
The motherboard BIOS is updated .
The VGA driver is too ( version 4107 ) .
I don't want to cut off the PC speaker .
Can anyone help me to resolve this problem ?

My problem is that these BEEPS comes from the internal speaker, and it sounds like this = 5 beeps in one second, two seconds nothing, 3 beeps in one second, long silence, then it starts again.
    This drives me grazy.

  • Geforce4 Ti4200 8x 128mb - 4x instead of 8x problem

I have the Asus p4s8x motherboard, got it because it has agp 8x. got this video card because it has 8x, but for some reason under display properties it says the bus is agp 4x. i've set up in my bios to 8x. i've looked in the forums and have not seen this problem answered nor asked, so please any help will be appreciated. althought there are no other problems as of yet, it just bugs me that it says agp 4x instead of agp 8x. thanks in advance.

    kambo,
    Always glad to help.

  • MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB refresh problem

    Hi all!
I have following WinXP refresh problem:
When I set refresh rate to value bigger than 75Hz, system tells me that refresh rate was changed, but my monitor still shows me 75 Hz.
    My HW configuration:
    Athlon XP 2000+
    ABIT KD7 (VIA KT400 chipset)
    MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB
    IBM DeskStar 45GB 7200 rpm
    17" AOC 7GLr
I have tried various graphic card drivers (both drivers that were on CD supported by MSI and downloaded detonators from nVidia), for my monitor i have correct drivers from AOC. I was able to set refresh rate to 100Hz using PowerStrip 3.3. In SiSoft Sandra Professional i found warning, that i should use PnP/DDC compatible monitor or video adapter.
Guys from AOC support told me, that problem is probably in my graphic card.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks in advance.  :(

I experienced the same problem with a new msi 440mx VTD (8x). I tried the latest detonator drivers (41.07 and 41.09) and could not get more than 75Hz refresh in any resolution, though the configuration told me it was 85Hz. In Monitor Inf my Iiyama MT-9017T has the specs 96kHz and 55-160Hz, that used to give me 1024x768@100Hz with my old graphics adapter.
    my configuration:
    Athlon XP 1600+
    Epox KTA3pro (KT133a)
    WIN2000

  • Gainward GeForce4 ti4200 issue

    Hi all,
Just got a Gainward GeForce4 ti4200 for my k7n420.  But it is having a stange issue.  The card works great.  but sometimes when I turn on my computer it will not post.  All of the leds are red and the light on my cdrw is on, but nothing will happen.  The only way I have found to correct this is if I take out the video card and reseat it.  But I have to do this almost every time.   I was wondering if anyone else has come across something like this.
    xp1800
    k7n420
    2x256MB PC2100 Micron
    Gainward GeForce4 ti4200
    Pioneer 16x dvd
    Lite-On 32x10x40 cdrw
    80gb WD harddrive
    onboard sound & NIC
    antec 350w power

Well we have differnt motherboards, but I am using 3.13 beta for my k7n415.  plus i flashed my vga bios to the version on the gainward site.
If you are brave enought o flash your vga bios, then I would suggest downloading the new bios (it is newer than the one that was on my card).  Then copy the contents of the zip file to a floppy, then boot with a windows 98/me boot disk.
now if you are using ntfs on your hd partition then copy the contents of the floppy (the one with the vga bios) to the ram disk  and run the flash.bat batch file, then reboot.
Good luck if you have to call gainward tech support, the two times I did they took my phone number, then about two maybe three hours later they called me back, but between the broken english, and the it's your motherboard i didn't get far with them.

  • What kind of TV-Out is on the 64MB Version of the MSI Geforce4-Ti4200?

    It´s very important for me:
What kind of TV-Out is on the 64MB MSI Geforce4-Ti4200? And what kind is on the 128MB Version? (The same?)
    Thanks
    Bloody Judge

The hub is not compatible. It sounds like the unit is powering the link to the TC.. which would cause the TC to freeze up. You might need a special USB cable which has just data connection but no power.
It is really hard to get info on hubs that work.. particularly because there are so many around and many are changed .. eg if you buy a belkin this year it fails when last years one worked.. that is because all the manufacturer is farmed out to various factories in China who use .. the cheapest parts available today to build them.. next week it could be different.
The TC just doesn't have a huge amount of memory to store drivers for every USB under the sun. So some work some don't. The best I have found is the cheapest brand x USB2. I would not bother with USB3 since that chipset is even more unlikely to be supported than USB2 ones.
I have tried to get people to add to a database.. not much so far.

  • KT4VL + GeForce4 ti4200

Hello all, having a bit of a problem and hope someone can give me a hand.
Recently purchased and installed a KT4VL MoBo with an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ 1.47GHz Processor.  Stole the GeForce4 ti4200 video card out of my old machine and everything is running fine.  Crank the FBS in the Bios up to 133 and everthing is running fine.  Install the drivers for the video card and get some real funky colors.  I mean real funky, Picaso funky.
Messed with it for about 4 hours last night, no success.  Came to the boards today and read that it might be PSU related.  Sure enough my old PSU only puts out 160W combined.  Replace the PSU with one that puts out 230W combined.  No dice.
Here is the part that is kind of strange for me:
Everything runs fine, including the video card WITH the drivers installed, when the FSB is set to the default 100mhz.  Goes all wonky when I up it to 133 and back to all fine when I take it back down to 100.
Oh, BTW, I've udated the MoBo Drivers and tried to versions of the drivers for the video card.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Infin8jest
**EDIT**  Thought I would mention that I had installed the E-Color (not sure about the name) program that came with the MoBo and thought maybe that had something to do with the colors being all funky.  I unistalled the program but was wondering if it leaves anything on the computer that would still effect the color.  Thanks

    Bas,
The Cooler is seated properly and the machine runs fine at 133FSB with my brothers GeForce4 Ti 4400.
My GeForce4 Ti 4200 runs fine in his machine at 133FSB.
I have tried the Trouble Shooting Guide, that is where I found the info regarding the PSU and I went out and purchased a new power suply.
Oh, and I don't think we can dismiss this as a VidCard problem because it does NOT work fine at 100FSB, it in fact locks up quite a bit now.  But like I said, my VidCard works fine in my brothers machine, which has an MSI MoBo btw, and his card works fine in mine, and I believe his card draws just as much power as mine does.  I think it's safe to say that my MoBo has issues with the 4200 VidCard.  Thank you for your reply.
    Netherscourge,
Yes, I thought it was a power suply problem as well so I went out and got myself a Antec SL350 which claims 35A on +5V, 28A on +3.3V and 230W on combined +5V and +3.3V.  Shouldn't this be enough?  Like I said, I was able to run my brother's GeForce4 Ti 4400 with no problems at 133FSB.  I even ran a game that gave me problems at 100FSB with the 4200.  It didn't bat an eye.
You're recomending a PSU with at least 350W, but 350W where?  Combined or total?  Thank you for your reply.
    Moebee,
Well, it certainly takes a load off my mind that you have the same MoBo and VidCard that I do and are experiencing no problems... just to be clear though, you are running your board at 133FSB?  What processor are you running?
I have updated with the live update, but that doesn't flash the BIOS, at least I don't think it does.  Have you flashed your BIOS?  I was think about doing this when I get home but it looks risky and would like to know that it will in fact help me.  Thanks for your reply.
Thank you all very much for your replies... please keep them coming as I really want to get this problem licked.
    Thanks again,
    J-

  • GeForce4 Ti4200

I have a GeForce4 Ti4200 128meg card which may be faulty. I have updated the drivers but when ever I try to play any/all 3d games, No One Lives Forever2, Unreal 3 etc... after a few seconds it locks up causing me to reboot the PC.
This is getting very frustrating as I bought the 128 card to give me the best gaming experience.
Can anyone please help...is it a faulty card or is it set up right. The PC is new and runs an XP2200 with 512 meg ram, 80 gig hard drive etc...
    PLEASE HELP
    regards
    Mental Micky

It sounds like you are experiencing the same thing I did when I flashed my BIOS to use the latest version.  In short, I found that any of the 3.x BIOS updates from my MS-6330 board would not allow for DirectX support on the GForce2 MX400, GForce 4 TI4400, or ATI Radeon 9500Pro aGP cards.  I ended up backing down to v2.9 for my board before I could get it working again.
I don't think heat or power has anything to do with it.  Why? Because if your situation is like mine, everything would run fine as long as I didn't execute any games.
I suggest you try running the DirectX diagostics.  If it locks up on the video tests, then you most likely are experiencing the same AGP support issue I am and may need to back down to an earlier BIOS in order to regain your gaming ability.
Use this URL form more information on the diagnostic tool.

  • Can I Take Vidcaps On My Geforce4 Ti4200 VTD8X?

I want to make take vidcaps from my tv.  Can I do it with a Geforce4 Ti4200 VTD8X?
If so, how can I do it?  Do I hook the cable from my tv to the video in connector?

The card can only record a video feed, you can't connect it to an antena or cableTV outlet directly.
If you have a TV reciever box you can connect that to the card, or you can hook up your VCR/camcorder to the card.
If you have a choice you should use S-Video cable.

  • GeForce4 ti4200 AGP8 prob

    Heye all...
Have this weird prob, just installed my new board so my system looks like this
    P4 2.4 533MHz
    2*512 PC2100 RAM
    Newest bios
    Palit GeForce4 ti4200 AGP8
    400 Watt PSU
    1. When I did a fresh install of XP Pro I had to run RAM in dual DDR, otherwise the install would halt after loading all the drivers???
    2. When the install of XP sp1 finished and I installed the official detonater drivers end rebooted, the system crashes only after a few minutes in XP???
It hangs and after a little while BSOD then it reboots.. then XP says that the driver nv4_disp.dll caused the system to become unstable.
    3. Changed the vid card to my old GeForce2 MX, no prob at all.. finished freedom fighters with that card.
    4. Got a new GeForce4 ti4200 AGP8, same prob. right away??
    5. Changed to a GeForce3 ti200 no prob at all???
I figure this much.. since all bios settings are default (tried a bunch of other settings too) it must rely on the AGP8 or what ??? Since none of the two other functioning cards have a prob. and they only run AGP4..
Please let me know whet U think..

Heye tried the software suggestions without any luck..
Got a new board from msi, same prob.??
Upgraded the bios to the new 1.7 no difference..
Tried to oc the 2.4 to 2.6 ran more stable for a while only to exit the games to the desktop, gave it more juice, same prob.
Set the bios to slow, not being able to boot into windows at all ???
Uninstalled corecenter, now I can access windows.
Gave the agp more juice, no difference the vid card freezes after a min. in games.
Gave the ram more juice no diff... :=)
    Disabled fastwrites no diff..
So I´m thinking could it be the psu?? it´s 400Watts but I also have:
    coolermaster aerogate II
    4 blue uv leds
    Thermaltake graphics cooler
    120 mm system fan
    60 mm system fan
    2 Harddisks
    2 cd-drives
    2 ram blocks
Maybe this board demands a little more than the other I had (SIS) with the same setup???

  • My Geforce4 Ti4200 Lost a Capacitor

As the topic said, I have a Geforce4 Ti4200 and about a mouth ago it lost a capacitor, the component C354, that I imagine is a ceramical capacitor that is located close to the memory chip on the cooler side just felt.
The board still works, but for less than 1 minute, and the system freezes. The numbers of the board are:
    G4Ti4200-TD0211225115
I still have the component that felt and I want to know if is there a salvation for this board or it's lost ?
    Thanks.

If you still have the component, take it to a local electronics repair shop.
Also you can look around your area for an electronics assembly business that populate bare circuit boards, they are usualy a contract based business.
I don't know what part of the planet you live on but your local electronics repair shop may know of someone that could solder the part back on for you.
Even circutboard manufacturers usually know of an assembly shop that would do it if you are really nice

  • GeForce4 Ti4200 x8 msi.. need capture help

I'm trying to capture video with my MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 x8 and the captured image doesn't stretch fully to the left and right edges of the screen.
    http://members.aol.com/nintsengado/phantStar.jpg
This is an image captured from my xbox system, but it's just about the same when I connect my cable box to the card.
How can I 'stretch' the image horizontally so it fits into the screen correctly?

  • GeForce4 Ti 4600 Compatibility Issue...?!

I'm not sure what happened, but it's buggin' the crud outta me!!
I recently upgraded iMovie to 6.0.3 and started getting an alert message on startup: iMovie requires a “Quartz Extreme Compatible” graphics card. Certain iMovie features such as Themes, Ken Burns Photos, and Video FX may not work properly with your graphics card.
iMovie has been working great with my system until this upgrade. Now, when I drag photos in, it renders the photo into a five second white DV clip. I pulled up System Profiler and it tells me that my GeForce4 Ti 4600 doesn't support Quartz Extreme and that Core Image is not supported.
Any help or points in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I have a lot of photo projects that I use iMovie for and this is KILLING my productivity!!
    Thanks!

Thanks, Sue... unfortunately, it didn't solve my issue in the way I'd hoped. Are ya ready?
My concern was "How could I go from having a QE comptabile machine (that rendered everything fine) to suddenly having an QE-INcompatible machine?"
Answer: I couldn't... unless the card or the system took on a mind of its own.
Zapped PRAM several times, and suddenly my graphics card is Quartz Extreme compatible. Go figure. Now iMovie starts fine, no issues. Sooooo...
... maybe I should just upgrade my GeForce4 Ti 4600 card to something nicer to play with.
