Geforce4 ti4400 slow

I just got a msi geforce4 ti4400, installed it and even downloaded the latest drivers.
System is WindowsXP Pro.
MSI 850 pro with 512 rdram
1.6 ghz processor intel
I had a geforce2 gts and it gave me benchmarks much higher then my geforce4.
I benchmark Quake2, Halflife, all run very slow compared to my geforce2.
Help, I didn't spend all that money to get a slower vid card!!!!
theo

Obviosly the Ti4400 should be much faster so there is a problem.
A few things to check:
-Set the AGP apature size to 128MB
-Disable AntiAliasing during benchmarking
-Use 29.42 official drivers
-Refresh rate set too low and Vsync is active.
-850Pro (MS6339) had an original AMI bios that was very slow compaired with the later Award bios.

  • Lock-Ups and Restarts with Geforce4 Ti4400

    Hi,
I've been having this problem for quite a while now during 3d games.
    My setup is:
    Gigabyte GA7VRXP
    AMD Athlon 2000+
    MSI Geforce4 Ti4400
I guess the rest is irrelevant.
    Please help, Thanks,
    Eyal Ben David

    PSU=Power Supply unit
    Who made it?
On it there should be a label with some numbers. on that label there should be the correct numbers for the 3.3V line and the 5V line(celarly stated on the label). There should also be a combined power statement on that very same label. The 3.3V and the 5V are measured in amps.

  • GeForce4 Ti4400 + AMD = trouble

    Running with the following components:
Tyan Trinity KT-A motherboard rev B (BIOS v1.10)
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ CPU (Retail package)
    1024MB PC133 RAM (1x 512MB, 2x 256MB)
    560watt power supply
nVidia GeForce 4 Ti4400 (MSI corporation)
nVidia TNT 2 Ultra (Creative Labs corp)
    Sound Blaster Live! Platinum
    Roland Sound Canvas SCC-1
    D-Link 530TX+ (Network card)
    Generic PCI 56K modem
    Windows 98 (Second Edition)
    Generic 3.5" 1.44MB Floppy
    Western Digital Caviar 33100 (3.1GB)
    Maxtor 16GB HD
    Lite-On 48x CD-ROM
This is a newly assembeled system.  With the GeForce 4 card installed, the system freezes before Win 98 finishes booting. According to the bootlog.txt file,
the freeze happens after loading RMM.PDR and BIGMEM.VXD....
I thought maybe the files were corrupted, so I extracted
new copies from the Win 98 CAB files, but to no avail.
I tried many different versions of the GeForce 4 drivers, but also  to no avail..the system always froze in the same place....
Just as a test, I replaced the GeForce 4 card with an older TNT 2 Ultra card...Sure enough, the system booted up the Win 98 log-in screen.
Unfortunately, at the Win 98 log-in screen, I see the message that the Sound Blaster Live! card cannot load it's MIDI files, so MIDI playback is disabled.....I then see a "blue screen error" that says the "system memory" is running low, and that Norton Anti-Virus Auto-Protect might not function properly.....
The system is running pretty slow, so when I check the "Windows 98  Performance settings", it says that the Hard Drives (and Floppy Drive) are running in "Compatibility Mode", but with 81% system resources free.
I thought maybe the VIA chip-set divers needed to be updated, so I tried 4 different versions, all having no effect...Also, in the main system information screen, while the correct CPU is displayed (Athlon XP 1800+),
the RAM count only says 1013MB... It becomes more strange because when in "Safe Mode", the RAM count accurately shows 1024MB.
    So far, I've tried:
New and older drivers for GeForce 4 card
New and older drivers for TNT2 ultra card
New and older drivers for SB Live card
New and older drivers for VIA Chipset
I am at a total loss on what to do, so if you could offer any advice or suggestions, I'd be greatful.  Do you think replacing Windows 98 with XP could help?
    Thank you,
    Andrew B.

Woo, finally got Win XP installed, and my GeForce 4 Ti4400 runs GREAT.  Also put that extra 512MB back in.
The only problem I'm having now is that any sound coming out of my SB Live (be it, CD Audio, MP3, or something thru the Line-In), starts to get really choppy whenever an IDE device is being accessed (i.e. CD-ROM, hard drive).  When the device is not being accessed, the audio is crystal clear. (Never had this problem with Win 98se)
The SB Live card is the only device sitting on IRQ 5, so it's not conflicting with any thing.  I've put that card in 4 different PCI slots, but it didn't help.
    Any suggestions?
Here's what I've tried so far (following Knowledge Base articles from Creative Labs), all with no improvements:
Disabled unused devices (Serial Ports, USB Ports, Parallel Port, Floppy Drive Controller).
Switched hard drive controller into PIO-Mode only.
Tried 15-16MB memory hole  (in BIOS).
    Tried lowering EAX reverb.
Lowered both Sound and Graphic acceleration (even lowered to ZERO)
Tried Win XP in both ACPI and non-ACPI modes
Updated VIA drivers to latest version
    Udated GeForce 4 drivers
    Updated SB Live drivers
Moved SB Live card to 4 different PCI slots
Slowed down AGP slot from 4x to 2x
Installed all of the latest patches/fixes for Win XP.
    Nothing has worked yet

  • GeForce4 Ti4400 - various problems

I have been having various problems with my card.  These include:  Pausing for several seconds (like a lock up) then reverting to vga mode;  complete freeze where I have to reset the computer;  red lines and dots that fill the screen sporadically;  a blank screen appears for 2-3 seconds and then back to normal.
In all cases I have to reboot to correct.  Sometimes rebooting does not help.  The red lines and dots return even on the posting screen.  When this happens Windows/XP doesn't even start.
I have to powerthe machine off and let it sit for awhile and then turn it back on.
I'm using the latest driver from the MSI website:

I have 98SE so I don't know much about XP, but the artifacts you're seeing and the way it sometimes needs to be left off for a while makes it sound almost like it's overheating, because I had similar screwups when I overclocked another vidcard a few years back too much.
Check the fan on the card to see if it's running and make sure it's getting good ventilation (the card might be too close to another card on the board). If you have access to it, some of that cooling spray they have for testing electronics (might check Radio Shack or a PC store) might help show if it's temp-related or not.
And if you're running an overclock utility, try resetting to card defaults for a while. Running it past a certain point will screw it up even if you have it sitting in a freezer for cooling! :^)
    Good luck.

  • Geforce4 Ti4400 Compatibility Problems

My new (expensive!) G4Ti4400 is giving me grief.  X(
I have tried it in 4 PC's. It works in 1 of them, and gives me the same symptoms in the other 3.
I have taken it back to the retailer, who won't exchange it because it works on his testbed.
    The symptoms are -
Corrupt characters in text mode (BIOS screen for example)
Yellow and red lines (in a repeated pattern) on windows 98 loading screen
Patterns of red blocks on windows desktop
I have tried removing all other cards (and even disabled IDE channels) to solve the problem to no avail.
    Motherboards/PC's with problem -
    1. Athlon XP 1700 on Elite K7S5A (latest bios installed)
    2. Pentium III 750Mhz on ASUS CUV4X-E (100Mhz Bus)
    3. Dell Dimension 4300 P4 at 1.7Ghz
    PC that worked
    1. HP Brio BA410 - Pentium III 800E
Please, please help me out !  :(

When I first had that problem, the local technical support sent me this article:
Hardware.fr has posted two short articles about problems many MSI Pro2 owners are encountering when they've placed a GF4 MX based card in their system. The first  article. They were unable to get MSI's KT266A-based K7T Pro2 to boot with either Sparkle's or Leadtek's GF4 MX based cards, yet both components would function with other configuurations.
The second  article where a reader tested a variety of mainboards with his Leadtek GF4 MX. His test was very thorough, trying a variety of different motherboard chipsets.
Yet this odd bug seems to be fine with other combinations as a PixelView GF4 MX card has been reported to work with the MSI Pro2. Gainward's and PNY's cards fail to boot 10 to 20% of the time too. Hardware.fr experienced no problems with Abit's GF4 MX on the Pro2.
So Leadtek, Sparkle, Gainward, MSI, PNY and PixelView cards have reported some problems with the Pro2 while Abit's card has yet to experience a bott failure.
The above text was all translated from http://www.harware.fr
I'm lucky enough to have an MSI Pro2 in my main system (not that lucky actually . I've been experiencing failed boots with my eVGA MX 440 and Creative MX 440 as well. From the wealth of info becomming available, it seems like all the blame rests in MSI's court. MSI do something!!!
I do not agree to the conclusion, but certainly there is a problem.
I guess I was lucky to solve it. At least for the moment, because I need to install a new sound card.
Hey, Jmedic, please forgive my ignorance, but what is a mini level?

  • K8N Neo - High Performance Mode Killed System?

I'm slightly frazzled at the moment, so forgive me for any mistakes. I installed the K8N Neo Platinum on Tuesday night, with a brand new Athlon64 3200+ with 1mb L2.
Video Card: VisionTek Xtasy Geforce4 Ti4400
    Memory: 2x Kingston 512MB 400MHz DDR PC3200
    Power Supply: Antec True550
    +3.3V @ 32A
    +5V @ 40A
    +12V @ 24A
I installed the various MSI applications tonight, including CoreCenter. Attempted to adjust the FSB with it, but with just a 2.5% increase, the temperature of the CPU was getting higher than I cared to see during stressful applications. So I set it back to default, and later on read up on the BIOS settings in the manual... I read the description of "High Performance Mode", and figured I would try setting it to Optimized.
Seemed like a good idea, let the board I had read was great for overclocking do it's stuff automatically. So after I set it to optimized (Didn't change anything else), I hit F10 and let it reboot. It never did. When it rebooted, the power stayed on, Hard Drive light showed it was being accessed... Only problem was absolutely no video was being sent. Monitor was as black as black could be.
Turned the power off, tried again and again. Same deal. Power comes on, HD shows it is being accessed constantly for about 20 seconds, then just stops. But no video is being output, which leads me to think the system is just dead in the water for the most part.
During this state, the LED's on the back are as follows: Top two are red, bottom two are green. I saw in another thread someone was going on about there being an explanation for them, but I don't have it in my manual nor could I find an explanation of them.
At this point I'm just shaking my head, because there is absolutely nothing to be done as far as I can tell. If anyone has any ideas as to a possible solution or at the very least, whether the MB just went nuts or something worse happened, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm at a loss and afraid to even think what might be the problem.

While the "high performance settings" can surely make the pc unstable, it should hardly ccause hardware-damage.
Turn the computer off (to be safe, remove the power-cord)
Clear cmos with the jumper (instructions can be found in your manual)
    Wait 30 seconds
Put the jumper back to its original position.
Power on the system, and see if it works ?
    EDIT: Info from manual:
    Quote
    Clear CMOS Jumper: JBAT1
There is a CMOS RAM on board that has a power supply from external battery
to keep the system configuration data. With the CMOS RAM, the system can automatically
boot OS every time it is turned on. If you want to clear the system configuration,
use the JBAT1 (Clear CMOS Jumper ) to clear data. Follow the instructions below to
    clear the data:
    MSI Reminds You...
You can clear CMOS by shorting 2-3 pin while the system is off.
Then return to 1-2 pin position. Avoid clearing the CMOS while the
system is on; it will damage the mainboard.

  • SB Live! Value - Code

My card seemingly randomly stopped working. When i go to the hardware profile it says:
"This device is disabled (Code 22)
You can't enable this device because it has been disabled by a windows driver."
How do I figure out which driver, and than fix the problem?

    WinMe
    Asus A7M266
    GeForce4 Ti4400
    SoundBlaster Li've! Value
Just didn't work one day when I booted up. I don't recall installing any new drivers or anything. Card seems to work in another system. Right now I don't have any sound, all programs say i don't have a sound card installed. When I go to device manager it tells me I have one, but that it has been disabled by a windows driver.

    Richard -
I tried both the CD version of this and the website version and got the same problem - everything works except the Fan Speed, Temperature, and Voltage sections.  They do not respond.  They do work on an MX440 card we installed in a PC at the store I work at - why don't they work for this card?
The card is the MS-8871 Geforce4 Ti4400-TD.  Is there a way to make this work, or if not, is there another program out there that will give me the fan speed, temps, and voltage?  I would like to know this information.
    Thanks!

  • Nvidia 52.16 with errors

I installed Nvidia's 52.16 twice allready. One just after reformatting my Hard Drive.
My problem is when I'm playing BF the screen starts to get crazy.I can only see colors on the screen lol. With the older version of Nvidia I didn't have any problems.NIVIDIA BUG?? I'm using the older version and i'm happy. Just wanted to let the readers know about this problem and to see if more people are experiencing the same thing
    Thanks,

By BF, I assume you mean BattleField 1942?  If so, see nVidia's release notes for the 52.16 drivers - under 'open issues' you'll find the following:
"GeForce FX5950 Ultra and GeForce4 Ti4400, Windows XP: Rendering corruption in Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat.  A fix for this issue will be included in the next driver release."
Also a mention of Blue-screen crash for BF with GeForce 4MX 440, and Ti4400 under WinXP.
(no mention of the 5900 specifically, but it may affect it as well)
Everyone should check the driver release notes as it may explain problems/symptoms experienced.

  • K7D Master multiplier over 12.5?

I'm just about to get my ordered K7D Master (hopefully L version - depends if they can get it) today or tomorrow and I'm wondering if the multiplier will go higher than 12.5 and if the limitation is due to hardware or bios. I'm assuming a bios update will fix it as user Mr. Heat  (also saw him at http://www.2cpu.com) is using 2100 or 2200 MP's cpu's (13X multiplier) which work automatically but he wasn't able to change the multiplier even with unlocked MP cpu's.
So... my question is: Can the K7D Master run future MP 2400 or MP 2600 or XP 2400, etc cpu's without problems? ?(
On a side note, is software IDE raid easier to setup with XP than 2k? (will probably get XP with new mobo)
Mr. Heat Are you running XP or win2k for stability?

Hi, I checked the K7D Master CPU Support Status web page and Athlon MP 2200+ is listed, but I can't install windows 2k or windows xp,  stop errors and blue screens appear during the instalation process.
Is there any bios configuration specially for this processors?
When is going to be released the next version of bios?
I had to downgrade the bios to 1.3 version and only windows 2k works, but it detects the 2 processors as Athlon XP.
    Thanks in advance ...

  • Odd video problem with KT3 Ultra 2-r and GeForce4Ti4400

I don't know if I should post this on the VIA forum or on the VGA forum, so I'm gonna post on both. sorry.
My system specs are on my signature, and anyways, here's my problem.
When I turn on my PC, the monitor shows jaggy white lines all over the screen (as if the refresh rate / resolution was too high) instead of showing the GeForce BIOS (right before the POST).
This is weird, since a year ago, when I got my MSI nForce/ MSI GeForce4 Ti4400, this wasn't a problem. And now I have KT3 Ultra 2 and MSI GeForce4 Ti4400 Chapmionship edition, and I do.
Not only that, but most of the times when I restart my PC, my monitor goes into POWER SAVING mode instead of showing the POST and Loading Windows screen.
I even try to go into the BIOS while the monitor is in powersave mode and it does go in, but the monitor is dead.
The monitor comes back to life as soon as it reaches the WindowsXP logon screen. But like I said, it goes into powersave mode as soon as I restart and until it reaches the WinXP logon screen.
I mean, this is a minor problem, but its a pain in the ass!!!!
Whenever I'm trying to tweak the BIOS, it will often times do this, and even if I turn the monitor off, unplug it from the PC, unplug it off the wall, when I plug it back in, it still is in powersaving mode, even though the PC is running.
    HELP!

No, my Ti4400 is not the Champ ed. The actual model number on it is 8871 ver-1.00. You can read about my problem's in the "Have you seen this?....." thread on this forum (page 7 now I think)
I haven't had a problem in the last couple days though. I removed some Reg tweaks (this is a DAW box) and ....dont luagh, turned up the heat in my house. I'm not sure if it was the Reg edit or Temp, but things are working ATM.
Nice to know I'm not alone though,

  • Can AGP 4X be set on TI-4400 (MS-8871) before install

I am building my own PC.  My motherboard manual says that my AGP slot video card must be AGP 4X (1.5V).  It also says that if the card supports both AGP 2X and AGP 4X to set it to 4x before powering up.  I have a MSI TI-4400 128 Meg Titanium(MS-8871) which is supposed to be both 2X and 4X compatilble.  I cannot find anything in the manual about setting jumpers to make it 4X.  Based upon the motherboard instructions I am fearful of burning up the motherboard if I power on and the video card is in 2X mode.

I have the same card and the msi 645 ultra.  I put the card in and the motherboard set itself up for 4x.  If the motherboard doesn't have a manual setting for the agp speed, my guess is that it will go with the fastest speed that the video card supports.  Anyone know otherwise?
