[GeForceFX] Geforce Fx5900 TD128 Issues

Im getting graphical artifacts on the windows boot screen and the chkdsk screen that comes up sometimes on Windows XP SP2. Occurs on boot screen on Linux as well, but everything seems fine in Windows after it boots.  I've tried everything to fix this, bios updates to computer and video card. Also tried various drivers, but no luck. Also thinking of RMA'ing it, but Im worried that MSI doesn't have any 5900's left. Any advice ?

I updated the SiS drivers, Im thinking this is a BIOS issue of some sort. I even tried flashing to the latest MSI 5900 bios version. Still trying to get the time to bring this to a friend's comp to run it in. Maybe an incompatibility with my ECS K7S5A Pro motherboard ? Slot works as I put a Geforce 2MX in there and it didn't bring up the same problem. I will know more as soon as I am able to test in a friend's motherboard and will post the results
I have also managed to capture the problem, here is a link to the jpeg. http://www.evoteam.net/wc/artifact.jpg  notice the vertical line on the lower right of the boot logo. This is also after a fresh install of XP and happens during boot which I suppose rules out a driver issue

  • MSI GF FX5900 TD128 Problems

I recently bought a new GeForce FX5900 TD128 from MSI and I am having a couple of problems. I am geeting some frequent crashes in games such as Morrowind (every 30 minutes to every hours). The problem is the same in other 3D applications. Could the problem be related to DirectX9.0a? Should I reinstall DirectX8.1? Should I try seeting the BIOS (and the card) to AGP 4X? Or is the card deffective (It runs fine in 2D applications and on the desktop).
    here are my system specifications:
Motherboard: MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR (Original BIOS)
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3000+
    Memory: 2X512K of Crucial DDR400 (Non Dual-Channel)
    Graphic card: MSI GeForce FX5900 TD128 (Nvidia's 4.4.0.3 drivers)
    Screen: Samsung Flat 19"
    Sound: Onboard sound
    Power Supply: Antec 480W

Sorry for getting back to you so late.  I had to travel a bit for work.  My card is set at AGP 4X and everything is fine.  Thanks a lot.  It's always the same thing when you buy new hardware... You got to be patient.  At least, I got less problems then my friend with his new Radeon 9800 that crashes all the time :D.
By the way, sorry for my bad english...  I come from Montreal and I'm french canadian...  It's been a long time since I had to write in English...
    Thanks again

  • Trying to clock MSI FX5900 TD128

First of all: HI! (This is my first post here  ) )
I recently got muself a MSI FX5900 TD128. I installed the msi drivers and I saw it is possible to adjust the clock there. It is one (2D) that says 300mhz and one (3D) that says 400mhz. I've tried to adjust the 3D-clock to 450mhz (ultra settings) but when I reboot the pc it is back at 400mhz.
I don't know if I am doing this right and what the difference on 2d and 3d-clock is. Does anybody know?

    Hi Metaman,
You are having the same problem that I had with my FX5200 that the settings were not being saved.  I do not know why this is.
I downloaded the Geforce tweak utility from http://download.guru3d.com/gtu/ this allows you to change clock settings.
P.S the 300Mhz is memory speed
the 400Mhz is the GPU speed
    kind regards

  • FX5900-TD128 memory problem

    Hey there,
I've been having some trouble with (I presume) my graphics card. Basically I can play games just fine after my computer has just started up (or reset). But after a while of playing games or using 3d software in general I can't start a new game.
The games just refuse (start loading and then the window closes) to start or give me various error messages, so here are some:
GTA Vice City: Grand Theft Auto VC can not find enough available video memory
    Ravenshield:
OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: GenuineIntel Unknown processor @ 2555 MHz with 767MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 (5672)
Assertion failed: RenDev [File:.\WinViewport.cpp] [Line: 471]
    History: UWindowsViewport::OpenWindow
Sim City 4 : Hardware Driver Error
Note that it is the games that give me the errors, not windows.
    System specs:
    Gigabyte P4 Titan 667
    FX5900-TD128 (running nvidia's 56.72 drivers)
    Pentium 4 2.53 Ghz
    768MB of DDR RAM, 266Mhz
    Audigy 2
I've tried to include as much info as I can, but if theres anything else you need to provide a solution I'd be more than happy to find out and tell you.
    Thanks a bunch.

Alright, not sure how to find out the IRQs themselves, but I'll just list _everything_
    Gigabyte P4 Titan 667
    Pentium 4 2.53Ghz
    Kingston 512MB DDR stick @ 266Mhz, Generic 256MB DDR stick @ 266Mhz
    MSI FX5900 TD128
    Omni 400W/12V PSU
    60GB Generic HDD (ST360015A)
    60GB Maxtor HDD (4D06H3)
    LiteOn CD-RW 52x24x52 (Primary)
    NEC DvD-RW (Slave)
    Sony Floppy Drive
    Audigy 2
    Z-640 Speakers/Sennheiser PC-150 Headphones
Microsoft Media Keyboard & Mouse (PS/2)
Also, something that I probably should have mentioned is that I've had the graphics card for quite some time without encountering this problem. The only thing that I have changed recently is swapping the DvD-RW in for a (broken) DVD drive.
I dont see how this could affect the games (I've tried using the CD and the new DVD drive for the CDs) so I would imagine it may be a driver problem. I've gone through all the drivers I have and the most recent ones from both the nvidia and MSI site.
    Thanks again,
    Con

  • New FX5900 TD128 - Power Connector?

    Hello everyone,
I just bought a new FX5900 TD128 card to replace my FX5600, but before I install it, could abyone tell me what the power connector on the card is for? Do I need to connect it to the power supply, or is there some other specific purpose for it? Sorry if its a silly question, but I don't want to risk damaging my new card and the manual does not mention it at all.
    Grateful for your advice.
    Thanks
    Orcnobeard.

I measured the current drawn from it, something like 3A from the 12V and 3A from the 5V so that's about 50W, way more than just powering the fans.
The card will work without the plug, but the fans won't spin and the card will prevent you from entering 3D mode to prevent overheating.

  • FX5900-TD128 power

I recently bought an MSI Nvidia FX5900-TD128 video card and am installing it into a brand new system that I am building.
On the card is a "Power Connector", but there is no mention of plugging power to it in the documentation.  Am I supposed to plug in power from my power supply to this connector?

Yes, there is a splitter wire in the box if you need it.
The fans won't spin without the extra power !

  • FX5900-TD128 - Dual monitor support?

    ?(
I'm thinking of buy a FX5900-TD128 card, but I want dual monitor support (2 CRTs).  I looked on the product info page, but it doesn't explicitly say the card can actually do this... I don't want to find out the hard way by dropping $400+ on a card and then finding out it can't do something I need  ;(
BTW: I assume this thing will fit fine in a 865PE Neo2-LS mobo... right?
    Thanks

It would be a logical assumption that MSI's designers would get their gfx cards to fit their own mobos  :D
I haven't seen anyone complain so it should be ok.
    Thanks.

  • Radeon 128MB 9600XT DDR vs Geforce Fx5700-TD128 8x AGP 128MB

could u tell me what graphicsd card would give me the best perormacnce from my current pc configuration
    Radeon 128MB 9600XT DDR
    or the
    Geforce Fx5700-TD128 8x AGP 128MB

Hi got an Asus 9600xt core speed stock is 500 but can be whacked up well above that, Had mine at 550 and the memory to 340 (680). easy to overclock with the Rage 3d drivers. Gets well into the 4000 in 3d mark and over 32000 in aquamark...Used to use Nvidia but no way now!
And it runs cool and came with masses of software and half life 2 voucher.
Spanks the 5700 in every way including price at just over £100.
But still would prefer a 9800 pro they liquidate all the opposition

  • Geforce fx5900 K7n420

I was just wondering if anyone here has had any success getting a Geforce FX 5900 or 5900U to run on a K7n420. I've read on this fourm that the MSI version won't fit. How about any of the other brands like BFG, PNY ect.... How about any of the other FX cards 5600u ??
    Thanks
    Dennis
    AMD 2400
    K7n420 bios 2.7
    Geforce ti4600
    Win XP Home SP1

Well I tried a BFG FX5900 128mb tonight on my K7N420.  It fit in the slot ok but everytime I tried to boot I would get strange looking bars on the screen just before & durning the windows XP loading screen. Then as computer would be ready to go into windows. The screen would go black and the monitor would lose signal.
Before installing the FX card I used driver cleaner to clean out old drivers. I'm running bios 2.7 on my K7N420 with Windows XP home SP1 & 2.03 Nforce drivers.
My power supply is 350 watts. I was thinking that maybe my power supply might be the problem but I just tried an ATI 9800 Pro & it installed & ran fine with no problems that I could see. Does the FX 5900 need more power than the 9800 Pro?
Maybe I just got a bad card or maybe there is a problem with the K7N420 & the FX5900? . Has anyone got any Geforce FX5900 (Pny,BFG, Asus ect....) to run on the K7N420 pro? I really would like to know, I have searched the fourm here & at NforcesHQ & could not find an answer to this question. Maybe I should just get a 9800 Pro & be done with it. It would be funny if a 9800Pro would run fine on this Nvidia chipset board & Nvidia's FX could not.

  • MSI GeForce FX5700 TD128(non Ultra) MEMORY BANDWIDTH

    Hello to all...
I have 1 question please. I want to know the real memory bandwidth for MSI
GeForce FX5700 TD128(memory: Samsung). I found on MSI website this :
GeForce FX 5700 Graphics Core: 256-bit
    Memory Interface: 128-bit
    Memory Bandwidth: 14.4GB/sec.
    Fill Rate: 1.7 billion pixels/sec.
    Vertices/sec. 356 million
    Memory Data Rate: 550 MHz
    Pixels per Clock (peak): 4
    Textures per Pixel: 16
    RAMDACs 400 MHz
in MSI FX Series Quick User's Guide i found No. for memory bandwidth 8,8!!! GB/sec(MSI GeForce FX5700 TD128)
    Quick User's Guide Version: 5.0, November 2003, G52-V1NFX07
    Please remail and explain.
    Thanks
    TT

14.4 is the bandwidth for the Ultra so I assume it isn't the same on the non ultra.
You can calculate it by finding the rated timing of the memory chips and therfore the memory clock (approximatly).
For instance 2.8ns (should be marked on the chip -28) is 1/2.8ns=357MHz.
Using DDR it is effectively 714MHz, and using 128bit wide BUS you get 11.4GB/S

  • Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT issues

I have the latest 17" MBP with the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT and 10.5.1. When I try to render out quicktime movies in Shake in ProRes or Uncompressed I simple get coloured noise with a shadow of the image underneath. It will however render out in animation codec. I have all the latest updates for the macbook and FCS2. When I took this shake script into my older dual 2Ghz G5 tower it rendered fine. I have heard murmurs of crap drivers written by Apple for this graphics card which I feel might be causing this problem. Can anyone tell me more? Any way of getting driver updates. I am working on a job and this is definitely a problem. Solutions please!

Hello! I am feeling a little more secure now that there have been quite a few posts about the poor preformance of the nVidia cards in the SR Macbook Pros, its comforting to know this isn't an isolated issue. I've gone as far as contacting Apple to let them know of the poor preformance. They've were, as usual, very nice and as helpful as they are allowed to be. Currently, I have a replacment on the way apparently, my original was deemd DOA I believe. However, it seems at the time all we can do is report our issues to Apple. My main concern is the legnth of time these machines have been out, and the amount of units sold to unknowing customers who are being sold on what Apple is marketing as a strong feature of the machines: the graphics card. When in reality, the card is extraordinary, the preformance in OSX is extremely poor. It is up to us as consumers to let Apple know how aggrivated we are.
Please, take the time and send your responses and feelings to Apple. You can do that here:

  • Geforce GT650M Performance Issues after Yosemite Update

So like many others I downloaded and installed the Yosemite update.  However, I am now experiencing some issues with the discrete mode on my Early 2013 Retina MBP:
Propellerhead's Reason 7.1.1 has significant rendering slowdown when turning on the Spectrum EQ feature.  This issue did not exist in Mavericks.  The entire rendering engine slows down and the CPU usage spikes significantly when turning this on, which tells me that the system stops using the graphics card and is attempting to render the app using CPU cycles.  I might just upgrade to Reason 8 to see if it helps, but I figured I'd report this here first.
Also, full screen RDP connections in Parallels 10 on a Windows 7 VM pretty much kill all UI rendering performance (Dock especially).
This feels a bit like a bad nVidia driver was included with the Yosemite build.
    Specs:
    Early 2013 Retina MBP
    OSX Yosemite
    i7 2.4Ghz
    8GB RAM
    256GB SSD
Intel and nVidia Geforce GT650M graphics
I should note that this is occurring when running three displays.

Yes I think it's to do with OSX 10.x
I got the beta version and ran dues ex and found huge lag and poor framerate, right down to about 1-2fps!
I have the 1gb GT 650M, I did the usual resetting of PVram and unchecking discreet graphics, checked concurrent process and killed hungry ones, etc...
but to no avail, then I fiddled with the graphics in-game and still no improvement even all the way down to 1990's spec resolution
so I reverted to mavericks and voila! working.
So I think it is definitely an issue with the OS.  I did report this to apple but what's one voice in a million?
I would hope that an update will be released soon to fix as it is affecting adobe products too, not just games.
Sorry this doesn't provide a solution but I don't think that it is a hardware fault at all.

  • MSI Twin Frozr GeForce 770 Compatibility Issue?

My new system crashes intermittently during any game. I normally can play for about a half hour but the times very greatly. Also the way the game crashes varies. Sometimes the game will just shut game. Sometimes it will freeze. And Sometimes the computer will turn right off.
I think it might be a compatibility issue because when I put my other video card (A GeForce 550ti) into this computer it runs fine. Also when I run the GeForce 770 in my other computer it seems to run fine there too.
Do you guys think this is a hardware compatibility issue? Or do you have any troubleshooting suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated.
