Gen 1 iPod Touch sometimes not recognized by iTunes (error code 0xE80000024)

Almost every time I connect my 1st generation iPod Touch to my computer via USB, iTunes (version 10.3.1.55) does not recognize and sync the iPod. Most recently, iTunes gave a message saying that the iPod could not be connected due to an unknown error 0xE80000024.
Without closing iTunes, I changed USB ports, and iTunes recognized the iPod Touch. (I also have the 4th generation iPod shuffle, and I have never had a problem with iTunes sync.

Try this:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Unknown error containing '0xE' when connecting

My ipod touch is not recognized on itunes and will not turn on or even give me the battery sign that it is dead. I turned it off and it won't turn back on now. The screen is completely black and won't do anything. I have tried charging it over night and nothing happened. It was never near water. I have tried troubleshooting it by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button, but nothing happened and it didn't work. What can I do to fix it?

There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site.  If the hyperlink gives you a "We're sorry" message, try again.

  • TS1363 My sons iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes, or windows.  Is this repairable?

My sons iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes, or windows.  I have tried a variety of options, even resetting, but still no luck.

What does the iPod's screen say or do, when you connect it to USB port on the computer?
The article referenced is for "regular" iPods.  An iPod touch is an iOS computer, so this article would be more appropriate for troubleshooting.

Be sure to rule out a faulty USB cable as the cause.  Try another cable, or try the cable you have with another device that has a dock connector.
Also, you should do this test to rule out a problem with the USB port (such as lack of power or USB device conflict).  Shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices, including any hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).
Then, start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer.  If it still does not connect, connect something else to the same USB port to confirm it is working.  Preferably, use something similar, such as a USB flash drive or external drive.

Yes. Also see the following.  I would first remove and reinstall all the Apple software using the instructions in the link.

Your media should not be affected.  However, you should always have a backup of your media since glitches do happen.

Does it light up at all? If not, you could have a battery issue.

Help! Both of my ipods are refusing to be recognized by both windows 8 and itunes. I've tried many different things from redownloading itunes, plugging the cables into different usb ports, using different cables, etc. I'm upset because I have no other ipods availabe and I really cannot afford to buy another one.

  • IPod Touch 5 not recognized by iTunes after Win 8 install

The heading pretty much says it all.   Can anyone help?   Ever since Windows 8 Pro install I have not been able to connect my iPod Touch 5th gen to iTunes.
I never had this problem with windows 7.
    - I connect my iPodTouch by cable to the USB
    - The computer recognizes the iPod TOuch
    - I can access the iPod Touch from My Computer
    - iTunes does not recognize it.  It doesn't pull it up as a device. All other iTunes servies work fine.
    I have...
    1. The most up to date version of iTunes.
    2. Restarted my computer multiple times.
    3. Powered down, reset, my iPod Touch multiple times.
    4. I have downloaded all computer updates recommend from my manufacturer (Asus) for Windows 8 Pro compatability

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar and Control+B to show the Menu bar

I would try the following first

  • Ipod Touch & Mini not recognized by iTunes 5.7

I've been having this problem for a while and haven't seen any real solutions besides the 5 Rs (and they don't fix it). Basically, my ipod touch (1st gen, I believe) and ipod mini (1st gen) are not recognized by iTunes 5.7. I've done the 5 Rs - well, 4 of them because I can't get to the last step in order to attempt to restore - and nothing. I've tried different cables, ports, you name it. Occasionally, one of them may pop up but it recognizes it as my iPhone and even shows all the information that is on my iPhone. I remember when iTunes was simpler and when you plugged one device in, it was recognized and you can freely sync, delete songs, add, etc. Now it seems like there's always something going on that doesn't work properly (as it used to). I am always reluctant to keep updating iTunes as a result, but I have done so in the hopes that this would be fixed. Both ipods are full to capacity and I wanted to be able to remove and add music and haven't been able to do so for at least a year now. Besides having to buy new devices (which I'm sure you're all for, Apple), how can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Nes

    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Try another cable
    - Try another USB port
    - I would also try another computer to help determine if yo have an iPod or computer problem.
