Gen 1 Ipod Touch Volume Display

On the first gens, I am able to see a volume icon on screen
(this picture)

I have done it 3 times by accident and know people who have done it too and dont know how they did it.
Anyone here know?

Double-tapping the home button on my gen1 (2.1 OS) brings up the volume control with play/pause, skip controls, and track name. The only time it doesn't is when I'm on the "Now playing" page.

2nd gen iPod touch only displays start-up apple icon, and is not recognized by iTunes - what to do?

Thanks, but I've checked those articles out already. I drained the battery and finally got the needs charge (battery w/red line + arrow pointing to a charging bolt), I plugged the USB into the laptop and held down the start key +home key until I saw the apple logo. However, it still was not recognized by itunes. It's been plugged in for over an hour now and the screen is cycling apple logo/low battery (battery w/red line)/and black screen.

  • 3rd gen 8GB ipod touch stuck on connect to itunes

This isn't fair. I just bought this 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch (my first ipod ever, only owned Mp3 players) from best buy today and i can't even use it...
I'm going to start from square one, this will be long-winded, so forgive me in advance. But detail might help you guys help me out...
Okay, all giddy with excitement I boot up my touch for the first time. It tells me to connect it to itunes. I do that, hooking up the touch to the computer via usb. Vista detects it, installs the "apple mobile device" drivers just fine. Good, so then I open up itunes -- latest version -- and it's telling me to set up my ipod; name it, etc. Alright, I'm almost bursting at the seams here with excitement, but then itunes is notifying me that iOS4 is out. I upgrade, it takes a few minutes to do its stuff, it's done, and bam it's working. I play with the ipod a little bit, looking at the apps that already came with it. I disconnect, play with it, then reconnect to the computer again.
So now, itunes for some reason is doing a "recovery" process -- i did not tell it to initiate this. So it's in the process of "recovering" (backing up, i guess?) and Vista is prompting me to install the driver "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery)" I tell it ok, locate and install them. It does that, I'm guessing, for it's now prompting me to insert a CD. Well, there is no CD so I tell it to find this driver on the internet. It says "cannot find drivers check manufacturer's support site blah blah blah." At this point, itunes tells me that it cannot complete the "recovery process" -- no error code or anything, and the dialog box closes.
Now, my ipod goes into the connect to itunes screen. Itunes does not recognize it, for it does not even display my ipod at all. Vista does however, and each time i connect the ipod to the computer it attempts to install the "apple mobile device (recovery)" driver and fails each time. I don't know what's happening. I've lost all functionality in my ipod, can't even get into DFU. iTunes just refuses to recognize it. I've tried all of those fixes (reinstalling itunes, rebooting, trying that method where you go into device manager and update the apple mobile device (recovery) drivers....all of it doesn't work). I've spent hours websearching...
And I'm at a loss. I'm ready to throw this thing somewhere. Can you guys suggest any help for me? Please...

You have to hook it up to a computer and update it to ios 5 and then there will be a "software update" button.

  • My gen 3 iPod Touch seems to have duplicated all my music since updating to IOS 5 so that it now only holds half as much. What can I do about it? I'm using the same iTunes library with OS 10.6 and all software up to date.

Is the camera damaged? Could be a hardware problem.
    Try:
Close the Camera app in the multitasking bar, then try again.
Restart/Reset/Restore your iPod. In that order.

  • 1st Gen. Ipod Touch does not see my wifi

Hello all, I have been struggling with this issue for a couple of hours and I am stuck. Any insight would be appreciated.
My 1st gen. Ipod touch no longer sees my wireless network. This is preventing me from connecting, obviously. The Ipod sees other wireless networks, such as my neighbors, but not mine. Other devices, such as my laptop and my printer both see and connect to the wireless network fine. I am at a loss for what to do next.
    What I have tried:
    Power cycling my Ipod.
Resetting network settings on my Ipod.
Resetting all settings on the Ipod.
    Power cycling my wireless router.
    Additional information:
I am running the latest Ipod and router firmware, so far as I can tell.
I recently bought a new router, which may be the source of the trouble. It is a standard Belkin 108.11b/g router. I haven't done anything fancy with the settings, other than to change the defauly SSID and set up wireless security.
My wireless router is set to broadcast an SSID.
My wireless router is set to use WPA/WPA2 encryption (though I don't think that should affect its visibility).
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

But if this is your old iPod, perhaps it is the battery. It may no longer be able to hold charge, that's what happens to old batteries.
Have you tried turning it on while it's connected to power? When you unplug the iPod from any power and try turning it on, look at the battery icon (if it's there). Is it full when it turns on and what level does it show just before it turns itself off again?

  • HT1449 I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices

I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices. Help please

The ipod is not a backup/storage device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you,  you can call apple support and they will help you, you can use google.

  • Can't Restore Gen 1 iPod Touch - Serial Number n/a and Unknown Error 1

I had just bought a Gen 1 iPod Touch off of eBay. It is said to be fully functional and was restored to factory settings. It also appears to be in great shape (just as it was claimed to be). When I plugged it to my PC and it said, "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes". However, every time I click "Restore iPod" it reads, "The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1)". So, I am not sure how to fix this problem and I need help.
I had tried all three iPod cables/cords I have just to see if there was a problem with the one that the iPod Touch came with, but I got the same results. >_<

It may be toast since te problems started after dropping it. BTW, iOS 2.2.1 is the latest free update for the 1G. The 1G can be updated to iOS 3.1 but you have to pay for that update. Have you tried the guidance here:

  • Trying to update from os 1.1.5 for a gen 1 ipod touch to os 3.1.1 but keep receiving an err 8288 message?

I have tried mutiple times to update to the 3.1.1 os for my Gen 1 ipod touch from the 1.1.5 os but keep receiveing an err 8288 message. I paid the one time 4.99 fee to download the os from ithe itunes store but the error message persists. HELP!

Any word on this fix yet? Kicking myself in the @#$ for not checking ALL issues with downloading the updated software. I am trying to update to the iOS 3, with no avail. I have the 2.2.1  - thinking that i could update it and give it to my child. Do you think the store can help? I don't want to pay $40-$50 through apple support to get my $4.95 back. I am by no means computer literate, so the firmware (3rd party) is sitting on my computer waiting for me to do something.
If anyone comes up with the latest and greatest help, that would be just fine.

  • 4th gen 8gb ipod touch tiny memory

I have a 4th gen 8gb ipod touch and I can only put around 28 albums on, my dad has a 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch and can put 58+ albums on it, why is my memory so small in comparison?

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
Also, the music can have different compression. You can go to the Summary pane for the iPod in iTunes and check the box that says "Convert higher bitrate songs to XX kbps ACC. A good compression is 128
