General error when exporting to Quicktime from FCE

I've built a slideshow with still photos, text, and audio. I've done this at least 20 times. When I start exporting to Quicktime, as I want to burn a dvd in iDVD, the export stops at 27% completed and I get a "General Error". there is no explanation. I've rendered the single sequence many times and it says ok. It plays fine in FCE but won't export to Quicktime. How do I correct the problem?

I think I had the same problem that you are now having. I would get unexpected errors when trying to:
1) Log and Transfer videos to external hard drives.
2) Save my exports to an external Hard Drive.
3) Copy large video files to the External Hard Drive.
Assuming that you are using an external hard drive, chances are that isn't formatted correctly. It cannot be formatted in FAT32 or else large files (usually video) over 4GB cannot transfer. It may be that the file you are trying to export is larger than 4GB. If it is currently formatted FAT32 it needs to be formatted to Mac OS Extended. Hope I was of some help.

  • General Error (49) when exporting to Quicktime from FCE HD

I don't know what a "General Error (49)" is or how to fix it.
Any insight that can help me with a successful export would be appreciated.

"There's about 15GB free on the drive"
Right there could well be a problem.
DV uses about 13 gig an hour other formats even more. If the Timeline is over an hour you will have to sort something regards space. Over full drives are not a good idea in any case. Many consider drives 80% full to be just that.
Another option to explore is a faulty render file/s. Try deleting them and re-render if the drive option fails you.

  • General Error When Opening A Project in FCE

I have read many threads on this.
My Config: FCE HD 3.51 / Intel Duo iMac
When I opened the project (both from FCE and double click), it would not open and I received a General Error. My projects are saved in a folder called FCE Projects in my documents folder on my iMacs hard drive.
I am able to open from my Auto Save - I moved this file to my desktop and renamed as the project copy - now I can open the project again.
HOWEVER - when I move this project off my desktop back into my FCE projects folder, I get the same General Error again. Other projects from the same folder open fine.
    Any ideas?

    Try repairing permissions and re-boot.

  • Error when exporting with Quicktime

I'm having some problems exporting with Quicktime from iMove '08. Here are my settings:
(The highlighted portion says 20,000 kbits/sec)
I have exported using these settings before, but for some reason, it gives me error code -2002 when it finishes exporting now, and tells me that it can't export. Anyone know what error code -2002 is? I can't find it here or on Google. Exporting straight to m4v worked just fine.

I'm exporting at those dimensions because that's just where I had it set (lol). I didn't even realize it was HD until just now, but like I said, I put the lowest possible data rate (32 kbits/sec) and the smallest dimensions possible (160x120) and it still didn't work.
However, I had completely missed the fact that the audio wasn't being exported. I reset the audio settings and tried again on the smallest setting, and that worked. Thanks for your help!

  • SSRS XML Errors when exporting to .xlsx from Dynamics NAV Database

We use Dynamics NAV for our ERP and have many SSRS reports.  We get xml Errors when exporting to Excel .xlsx.  I've seen this happen since SQL 2008 R2 and have posted in many places trying to find an answer, but was hoping MS would solve the
issue.  The numeric data types in the Dynamics NAV database are all decimal(38,20) and when the value is zero the Excel renderer throws the errors.
We now have over 400 reports and we export them to Excel 2003 format. I'm starting to feel like this is my new Y2K issue when Excel 2003 is set to sunset.  I'm fearing that I'll have to do conversions on all numeric data types for all reports.
Both of these are Microsoft products so I'm wondering is this even on their radar.
We're running SQL Server 2012 SP2, and just rolled out CRM 2015 on SQL Server 2014.  I get the errors in SSRS 2008R2, 2012, and 2014.  Has anyone seen this before?

    Hi Skywalker73,
According to your description, when you export the report to Excel, the error “Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content.” throws out when opening the Excel file.
Based on my research, it has reported the same issue when exporting to Excel. The issue could cause by numeric columns has  a precision of 16 or higher. To fix the issue, we could change data type in the table to a support lower precision, or convert
the numbers in the stored procedure that populates the report. For more information, please refer to this article:
SSRS 2012 Bug – “Excel found unreadable content”. Besides, please refer to this
article to check if non-printing characters exist in the report.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • "General Error" when exporting unrendered clip?

I have .mov clips in my project that already have an alpha channel in them (format is Animation millions of colors +).
They're on the timeline in a sequence, with a single transition between them.
I want to export back to Animation Millions of Colors + in order to keep the alpha channel (this is for Flash video conversion).
The composite mode for the clips are set to normal, with straight alpha. I can see that the alpha is intact on the clips in the timline by temporarily placing an image on a layer under them.
I understand that you have to export without rendering in order to preserve the alpha channel.
However, when I try to export to ANY codec without rendering, I get a dialog that says only "General Error." Rendering will allow export, but of course the alpha channel is gone now.
I'm running System 10.4.10 with the QuickTime 7.3 upgrade installed, FCE 3.5.1. Did QT 7.3 break something?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

    Tom,
Thanks for your reply. The problem isn't that I didn't use the right codec (I did, as I said in my original post). The problem is that I am not able to export an undrendered clip using any codec. All I get is the "General Error" message.
Thus no transparency in the exported file.
Also to clarify, I am not keying the source files to create transparency in FCE. The source files already have an alpha channel in them.
I have downgraded to QuickTime 7.2, so 7.3 was not the culprit. I have also run the usual system cleanup utilities like AppleJack, etc.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Exporting to Quicktime from FCE

Here's hoping one of the more experienced members of this forum can guide me with answers to two questions please.
I shoot and edit 16:9 SD (as opposed to HD) and I have Quicktime Pro. My films are about 3 minutes long.
When I Export as Quicktime, the file is quite large, the quality seems good, but the format switches to 4:3 with the images all tall and thin.
** Is there a way I can export to Quicktime and preserve the 16:9 format?*
When I Export as Quicktime Conversion, I can preserve the 16:9 format. But the file is smaller and even the highest settings are not particularly good quality. Sometimes this is OK if I want to upload it to Vimeo or similar site, but it takes me two steps to get this 16:9 into a 4:3 ratio. (There is an option to switch to 4:3 by letterboxing, cropping or fit within frame - but this doesn't work in one pass from the FCE project). I have to export it as a 16:9 Quicktime Movie, open this in Quicktime Pro, and then re-export it in the 4:3 format using either letterboxing or cropping etc.
** Is there a way I can go from FCE to a letterboxed 4:3 file which is small enough to upload yet still looks good.*
Phew - long question. I hope it makes sense. After many years working with Avid I'm just entering the Final Cut world.
    thanks
    Simon

    To answer your first question
    1) Open your exported Quicktime movie in QuickTime Pro.
    2) Go to Window/Show Movie Properties.
    3) Click on "Video Track", then "Visual Settings."
    4) Deselect "Preserve Aspect Ratio". In the "Scaled Size" box, type in a width of "853" pixels for NTSC or 1024 for PAL. Leave the height at 480.

  • General Error on export to quicktime

I am working in a timeline with Motion JPEG B as my codec, and lately when I export to wqicktime I get a general error. Occationaly it will export succesfully, but most of the time it gets 1/4 of the way through it's progress bar and stops, or doesn't even bring the progress bar up and gives me the error right away.
    Any thoughts?

Yes, export to quicktime using current settings. The clips are only 5 - 15 seconds long and there are Terrabites of space available on the target disk.
I suspect network speed might be an issue, but it's inconsistent and hard to pinpoint.

  • General error on Export   Using quicktime conversion

I have created a film that I am able to export using the Quicktime movie feature.
but if I use the Quicktime Conversion feature I get a "general error" (no number)
I am trying to export the files in a smaller form for CD's.
    The film was in HD.
    FCE Version 4.0.1
    OSX 10.5.6
Imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2
    3 GB of Ram
over 300 GB of hard drive space.
    Any ideas would be great.
    Thanks

    Al,
I have a project with three films in it.
Each film is about 3 min long, all shot in HD format.
    All footage imported via FCE.
The films all of a product with a screen. I have made a duplicate of the video layers. Put a 4 point mask in with a feather to adjust the screen colour (gamma adjustments).
Also the into to the film is some text done directly in FCE.
    Thanks

  • I/O Error when exporting to Quicktime

Any suggestions? Have tried exporting to various drives but same result.

I'm editing on a Dual 2.7 GHz Power PC G5, 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM, the footage is on an external 500 GB Lacie drive connected by FireWire 400.
    FCP = 6.0.2
    Quicktime = 7.3.1
Sequence Settings: 720 x 576 PAL, 25fps, DV PAL, 48.0 KHz, 32 Bit Gloating Point.
    Duration is 84 mins.
Exported via in and out points via Quicktime, self contained file, current settings. Have tried exporting to the hard drive and two externals - same error. Even a small clip half way through results in a general error.
This is the first time I've encountered this problem.

When diagnosing a failed render the first thing you should look for is the difference between the failed project and one that is successful. What is different? What changed?
Before we can get any idea of why these renders are failing we need to know the encoding settings and the type of source footage. Encoding Failed does not tell us anything useful in diagnosing the problem. If your AE project is using effects or footage that is clogging up memory or has some other problem then we should know about your AE comp as well. That means we need to know what version of AE you are using, what effects are applied, and anything else that is different in the project that fails and a simple project that does not.

  • Error when exporting to QuickTime

    Hello,
I've seen a few older posts dealing with this exact same problem, but I was wondering if there has been any new development/ideas to work around it.
I've been putting together a Keynote presentation with animations, video, and audio (all of it synchronized). To my surprise, when I tried to export it to QuickTime I got all sorts of errors. Removing the audio before exporting gets rid of the error, but if I load the generated QuickTime movie into iMovie and add the audio later, nothing is synchronized.
Has anybody found ways around it? I would have to throw away all the hours I've invested on this presentation.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Julian

Wow Kyn, that's quite an arsenal of resources! Thanks so much for sharing.
Unfortunately none of those suggestions did the trick. I have Keynote 3.0.2 just in case that makes a difference.
What I have found out though, is that the problem is related to slides that contain QuickTime movies. Following the suggestion from your last link, removing the slide that causes problems and (painfully) re-creating it does help. However at some point the recreated slide also becomes "corrupted" and QuickTime export stops working. Quite frustrating...
One quick question...on the last link, when the author refers to the "speaker icon", where is that? I don't think I've ever seen that before...
    Kind Regards,
    Julian

  • 1/0 error when exporting proof sheet from Bridge CC

I've followed the directions to install the output options in Bridge CC. (Why we have to do this now is mind boggling - one of the major benefits of using Bridge in my books). Now, when I attempt to export as a PDF, I get a 1/0 error message. Is there a fix for this? Any suggestions? Kind of pointless if I can't export successfully.

  • General Error when Doing Export

I'm getting a "General Error" when exporting a sequence, both as a reference QuickTime and as a self-contained QuickTime file. The process goes along until a certain percentage (73%), and then it bails, and gives this not-very-specific "General Error" message.
I've gone into the timeline and figured what I think is 73% of the timeline, and taken a look at the media at that point, which happens to be a Motion project brought into FCP as a .mov. I've pulled out the Motion project files, re-exported it out of Motion, and put the project back in.
I've also repaired permissions, run Disk Warrior, gone from 10.4.9 > 10.4.10, and up'd my QuickTime version to 7.2.0 (Pro).
    I'm using FCP 5.1.4, with Motion 2.1.2
I'm not sure what else to try, or what else to consider.

    Hi,
I am also having the same "General Error" message when i am trying to export a sequence that have the setting of HDV720p30 to a QT movie using export to Quicktime Movie>using the Current Settings on the Export tab.
This project is a concert i shot with 4 cameras. I have 4 sequences for the different camera angles and since there are three tapes, i had to line them together on each of their sequence and export them to be a self contained QT movie. I am using the export to Quicktime after right clicking on the sequence.
After that i was going to import them onto FCP Project and then multiclip edit the concert. I just love Multiclip editing.
I am able to export 1 of the 4 angles have and ran into this General Errorr Message.
I have tried making a new sequence, i have also tried using compressor but did not have the patience of waiting 10 hours to export the movie and also i didn't want to see the general error message at the end of the export so i came to ask any FCP Guru out there that can guide me. thanks.
