General Handling of iWeb 08

Hi all,
as a iWeb beginner I have to say I was pretty amazed how quick I could make my Site. I had no real hickups like described from other people on these discussions here.
Can please somebody give me I hint how to proceed when the worked on Site is online and you want to start with the next. How do I save my content .. because actually there is no "Save as" function. Can I really only publish to a folder ?? And how can I start working on the archived Site later on, when I´m in the middle of working on new stuff ?? Do I really have to have all Sites in iWeb all the time ?

Hello,
You can do it manually by having two or more Domain files. One for each site. If you already created all websites in the same domain file you just have to duplicate (triplicate, ...) the Domain file where iWeb stores its files (User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2). Now on one copy you delete one site and on the other you delete the other and so on. Be sure to not overwrite one website with the other, place the two domain files into two or more different locations (folders). To edit one or the other Domain file just double-click on one or the other.
If you didn't start yet to make the second site just duplicate the Domain file and then delete the first site on one of the two copies.
Note: At the moment there is no way for merging multiple websites (Domain files) into one.
Note 2: publishing to folder doesn't allow you to get them back in iWeb later for editing them, iWeb lacks of any import function except for Domain files
PS: you can also manage different sites with a freeware application called iWebSites but I do not recommend this

Font and text handling in iWeb.

Hello, everyone.
How are fonts and text handled by iWeb ? I am now working on a website and have chosen to work with Gil Sans as one of my primary fonts.
Is this font included as default in a standard installation of Windows ? What about OS X ?
In case I create iWeb pages using this font what will happen when I publish these pages ? Will they be preserved as text ? In this case how will this font be handled by Windows and OS X ? Will the OS's replaced the absent font with another one ? What would the selection of a replacement be based on ?
Or will iWeb replace the text created in Gil Sans with an image of the text to ensure that the display of the web page follows my intended format ?

You might want to google 'web safe fonts' and compare other lists to that one just to check.
1. I think you're talking about ALT tags. You could do this as a workaround but it would still be slow loading, and search engines would index it as images, so your text would appear in Google images for example. You might also want to consider whether anyone might need to copy and paste any of your text at some point, and whether you'd ever need to print pages (they will be more ink-intensive and lower quality).
2. You can embed fonts in your webpage; however this only works on PCs and Macs running Windows: http://www.sean.co.uk/a/webdesign/embeddingfonts_inwebpages.shtm
Another way around it is to offer an install of the font (check it's shareware and don't forget to offer both Mac and PC versions) and recommend to your visitors that they install it.
Also remember that whichever font you use, a visitor may have altered their browser settings to display your text differently anyway.

Flash Logo and General Flash in Iweb 09

Help
Does any know how to insert Flash Logo's or general flash into Iweb.
I have been on all the relevant sites and tutorials, trying every which way, but none works.
It still keeps asking for AC_RunActiveContent.js which is there.
So i am confused and still no further forward
Is there a flash guru in these disussions that does this all the time and will tell me Exaclty how to do it.

It evidently didn't get uploaded.

Uploading previous iWeb work after a system restore?

How do I upload previous iWeb work after a system restore?
I backed up my data on a Hard-drive then I did a factory reset or restore of my hard-drive....
Now I am attempting to open my previous iWeb work online and it is not working please help.....

Your domain.sites2 file is the file that iWeb stores all its data and it is this file that you need if you want to continue updating your website in iWeb.
It is found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and then the domain.sites file.
Your user library is the one with the house and this is where your personal user information is stored as opposed to your System Library which is general and where iWeb is not.
If you don't have your domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your site from scratch as iWeb does not have the ability to read or open html files - so a previously published site - it is a one way street creating html files upon publishing.

Uploading iWeb site to personal domain via FTP client (NOT .MAC)

I want to upload my iweb created website to my personal domain, in other words I do not want my domain to point to my .mac address.
I am downloading Cyberduck as my FTP client. Will I just send my whole "site" folder to my public folder at my personal domain? Will it be in the right order? How will I update each day? (Can I set up iWeb so that when I click "publish" it will update my personal domain?)
I was planning on using some wordpress plugins to modify my site. Will this work? I am totally lost, I had no idea I needed so much background info to blog outside of .mac! I guess I just want to design with iweb, and be able to use all the tools of my AN Hosting and wordpress.

IWeb 3.0.4- missing fonts –Arial MT and Arial BOLD

When using iWeb 3.0.4 I'll get the missing two fonts –Arial MT and Arial BOLD– error messages on every single page. This font is NOT in use and I don't have a working version as replacement on my font folder. I don't want to buy it to get rid of the problem. Anybody knows how can i get ride of those without using pacifist ? Thanks.

I believe those fonts are Microsoft fonts. Do you have MS Office or any other MS software installed?
Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder. - you've already tried this.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

3 - launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
launch iWeb and try again.
It is now generally acknowledged that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be solved with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken. If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows. Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone. How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

Using iWeb with MobileMe family pack

I just upgraded to the family pack for mobile me. I had been using it for my homepage, but now I'd like to make a homepage for my son, and my wife wants to make a homepage as well.
How is this handled in iWeb? I don't see a way to tell it where to publish which site when I add a new site.
What is the easiest way to handle multiple mobile me websites on one mac?

Not having used the sharing option since there's only one user on my Mac, I don't know the ins and outs of what you want to do. Terence Develin might. If you want to share the library with all users and have them be able to access the library, import new file and perform edits then the best solution is to put the library on an external HD whose ownership has been set to off. This Apple document explains the process: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users.
The drive can also be used to backup other files as well.

The scenario is:
In HU02 screen I am giving packaging material number, material number and quantity.
Than when I press enter system automatically taking one number in the handling unit field.
But my client wants to give here an external number range not the internal number range.
How to give external number range for the handling unit?

Use
If, for example, you are going to deliver handling units worldwide, unique number assignment for identification of the handling units is necessary, and it is also a good idea to assign SSCC18 numbers ( see also EAN128).
Prerequisites
In the Customizing settings for the packaging material type, you must maintain the Handling unit type field.
In Customizing, choose Logistics General ® Handling Unit Management ® External Identification ® Define Number Assignment for Each Packaging Material Type.
Maintain the HU type for EAN128 field for the relevant packaging material type.
Procedure
In the packing dialog, select the Pack material tab.
Select the handling unit for which you want to assign an SSCC18.
Choose Extras ® SSCC number assignment.
Result
A new SSCC18 number is generated and automatically assigned to the handling unit.

Hi All,
How to configure packaging and how to see the output of this?
How to see the handling unit output?
My Client's Business scenario is:
The finished product to be packed in pallets, pallets to be packed in container and container in truck.
4 qts of finished product to be packed in 1 pallet, 2 pallets to be packed in 1 container and 1 container to be packed in truck. How to configure this?
And also my client wants to see the packing list output and also the handling unit output.
So how to to configure this.
Please guide me.

Sometime back Allabaqsh Patil has forwarded me this material for my question on packaging. I did it and it worked well.
You can follow the same procedure and do it. It will work for you. The details are given below.

before creating the packaging material you have to go to:
IMG-Logistics Execution-Shipping -Packing.
1. Define packaging material types- it can be anything like boxes crates, etc. in this you have to maintain the output determination procedure, output type, plant determination, packaging material category, generate delivery items, number assignment. you can copy from standard also.
2. Then go to define material group for packaging materials - here you maintain the four digit code and the description. Actually, this group is nothing but similar products which require similar packing products. For Ex. Nokia Phones all types they are basically packed first into a polythene bag. So here nokia phones can become a material group for packaging materials and polythene bag can become the packaging material type which can include different sizes and types of polythene bags.
3. Define Allowed Packaging Materials - Here you assign the shipping group for packaging materials to the packaging material type. This is related to your mterial master data of the packaging material which you create.
4. Now go to MM01 to create a packaging material. use material type as Packaging material then inside the system will take the item category group as VERP. Then in the Basic Data1 screen you have the material group for packaging material (MGPM). Slect the proper one. Now in the Sales:General/ Plant screen you have to maintain data regarding the packaging. you select the MGPM same as the basic data 1 screen, then select the packaging material type, the allowed pkh weight, allowed pkg volume. This is important because if the weight of your finished item is 2 KG and in the allowed pkg weight you enter only 1.5 KG, then while you carry out the packing process in delivery, the system will give you error," packaging weight exceeded." The assignment in the IMG creen for Define allowed packaging materials should be same as u mention in the material master. Then save your material master for packaging material.
5. VA01 create the order, save it.
6. VL01N enter shipping point, go to edit - pack- you will face a screen with 2 parts. In the top part you select your packaging material in which you want to pack your finished item, enter the system will assign a number to that material. Now select the Material in the top part and the finished one in the lower part and click on the Icon Pack. Here one thing has to be taken care of. Suppose if you want to pack only one finished item in one packaging material, then in the lower part of the screen you have a field for partial quantity here you chnge it to 1. system will prompt quantity changed. now you select the material in the top part and the one in the lower part and click on the PER PART. QTY ICON. In this way the system will pack only one finished item in a single packaging material. Packing is done go back, select the picking and do the PGI. save the delivery and create the invoice.
HANDLING UNITS.
Basically handling units come into picture when you want to carry out multi level packing. suppose you want to pack Nokia phone first into a polythene bag, then this polythene bag is again packed in to box. like that. then this box will become a handling unit. For this go to :
IMG - Logistics General - Handling Unit Mangement - Basics.
1. In basics you do the same thing as you did in the packing in logistics execution. like you create the packaging material type, then MGPm and their assignment.
2. Then go to External Identification - and maintain the number ranges forthe handling units that you want and assign the same to your pckaging material type.
3. Now that you have done everything, create the order, save it, in VL01N, enter shipping point, go to edit - pack - do the same thing as i ahve told you in the step no. 6 (above). now after doing select the PACK HUs TAB . NOW IN THIS SCREEN IN THE TOP PART YOU WILL SEE THE ALREADY PACKED MATERIAL. In that same part again select your next packaging material that is BOX. enter the system will assign the number to the BOX.
4. Now select the material which you have just entered and the materials which were already packed in the lower part of the screen and click on the ICON PACK.
This is what I know about the packing process and the handling unit. you have many things in the handling unit management whichcan be very useful for automatic packing.

Backwards Compatability of iWeb?..Problems

On my main mac pro, I have all the latest updates of software etc. and my new iweb site (which is published but not yet launched) works great in Firefox and Safari.
BTW..I'm still in the 60 day trial period.
On my older mac at my other desk, I'm running 10.3.9 with Netscape,Safari, and Internet Explorer, all of which are (i think) updated as far as they can go in 10.3.9.
Problem: the site does not load and function properly on the older mac. Top menue bar is gone, and the photo gallery page comes up blank.
What is the backwards compatability of this iWeb program?? MOST visiters to a site are NOT going to have the latest and greatest software. Plus, I have NO idea about PC's.
This could be a deal breaker for anyone who wants to use .Mac in a more serious capacity.
Any thoughts of ideas??

The 10.3.9 Safari version does not support a lot of the advanced code that Safari 2 creates. For those users I believe the latest Firefox browser will work for them. With the release of Leopard imminent 10.3 is getting left further and further behind.
The latest Internet Explorer version does handle the iWeb 2 pages satisfactorily as I understand. You can go to http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/ and past your site's URL into the URL field provided and see how the different versions of IE will render the page. I think it does a fair job in duplicating how it will look. But I don't have a PC to compare.

How to handle one HU with more batches?

this message " stocks from HU storage locations can be managed" Message no. L3804. is because the amount of the storage unit is greater than the amount of picking, the solution is:
spro-> logistic General -> handling units -> basic-> warehouse management-> Control automatic pick HU creation.
must create a line with the information necessary
this allows confirmation in LT12, will automatically generate a HU, and there can select the lower HU

Uploading iweb layout/site to personal domain

I'm using FireFTP through Firefox to upload my site designed on iWeb. However, once uploaded and I visit my site images don't show up, fonts are wrong and some text doesn't show.
I'm getting really frustrated, I've tried the other free FTP's and they don't work either. How do I fix this problem?
