General Inquiry

I need  to replace the hinges and screen assembly cover for a HP G70-460US w/17" screen, needless to say I have had no luck in finding this model on e-Bay for the parts, but I have found the Model G71-460US. Does anyone know if these parts are interchangeable? Any recomendations as to where I might find the repair parts if these two aren't interchangeable?
This question was solved.

HI RDC1950:
Thank you for your response.
I regret you have still not been able to locate the hinges.
Have you tried the local hardware store or computer shop to see if they have any?
Have you tried Googling laptop hinges to see if it could be located anything online.
Hanaya is a manufacture of Friction Hinges you may be able to  locate  the necessary  hinges there.  click here.
I hope this helps.

  • General Inquiry Regarding Error Handling with System Exec.vi

I have a sub vi that uses the System Exec.vi to send SMS messages when triggered. I am confused as to how the error handling works and why all of the errors seem to go to the "standard error" vs the "Error out". The reason I am interested is because I am trying to interrupt the error out of another script to execute a command if error=true.
I have intentionally created an error to test this, however it does not seem that the signal is ever being sent to the error out, only to the standard error.
Any help/explanation as to how this works would be greatly appreciated.

The Facebook discussion board is just a pilot and that functionality is not available yet (as to my knowledge). You will have to use the actual forum thread to add attachments. You can click the arrow just to the right of thread topic in the Facebook thread and that will take you to the ni.com/forums thread. Or you can navigate here:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/General-Inquiry-Regarding-Error-Handling-with-System-Exec-vi/m-p/246...
Having a look at your VI would help to clarify the error handling issue.

  • General inquiry - Why ar .Mac and publishing/accessing iWeb sites so slow??

    Greetings,
I do realize that that general topic has been addressed somehow many times, in whole or in parts. I am just shooting for a general update on the subject(s).
I have grown fond of iWeb and just renewed my .Mac subscription. I am also a user of Dreamweaver and FrontPage. I just find the iWeb/.Mac combination so straight forward and... irresistible fun to play with!
BUT, before i commit more to that environment, I need to know - again:
    1. Why is .Mac/iDisk so slow in access?
    2. Correspondingly, publishing to .Mac and iDisk is slow. Why, actually?
    3. Difficulties in accessing iWeb sites published to .Mac/iDisk when using InternetExplorer (which, whether we want it or not, IS the predominant browser out there...). We know Firefox is better at it.
    4. Ultimately, would publishing iWeb sites to other servers (I have a couple of non-iWeb websites currently hosted elsewhere) make publishing AND accessing such sites speedier?
I will appreciate any advice, input, assessment.
    - Roger T

I think it's because it's more a social server with a lot of server side features available for .Mac users and iLife applications. Therefore there's a fair amount of server work when users use it for email, web sites with slideshows, backing up, etc. A commercial server will be much faster. There are othesr here that know more about servers than I and can give you a more technical explanation. But you're right, it is slow but convenient.

  • Library Items won't Update!!

Argh, I've broken my menu for my website, which is a library item. I was getting an error when I validated one of the pages, and found it was an issue with my list not being properly nested within the library item's html. I thought I'd be smart and add a doctype to the library item, so that I could validate it on it's own and pinpoint the problem.
Apparently, the doctype addition was added into all of my pages that contain the library item. Now I can't seem to easily get rid of it! I changed my menu's html to get rid of the doctype, but this change is not reflected when I update all pages. I go to Modify>Library>Update Pages... and choose to update the entire site. Nothing happens! The doctype is still in all of my pages that contain the menu, and it breaks the page (nothing shows in the Design view window.)
Please help! I really don't want to have to delete and reinsert the menu on every page of my website. : (
Here's an example, with the doctype error in the library item "menu-multilevel.lbi":

  • Consignment materials question

    Hi All,
I have a general inquiry on consignment materials.
If i have a material with material type ERSA, and it is consigned, is there a use if it is handled by split valuation?
I know for standard stocks, it is ok for split valuation because of refurbishment, etc. But for consignment items? Because once we issue it, it has 0 value, so do we need split valuation for consignment items?
Any particular scenario where this is applicable?
    Appreciate the feed backs.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply and you are right.
    Let me simplify my question.
If a material is maintained as a consignment material, is it possible for it to have split valuation?
    If yes, for what scenarios?
Sorry, the reason why I am asking this is because, i was just assigned to support a company where i found split valuation for consignment items and normal stock items.
As to my knowledge, we do not need split valuation for consignment items. So i think they made a mistake of setting consignment items to split valuation from the start. I just want to make sure now that my statement is correct, so i can make the necessary changes.

  • Memory management count

    Hello all,
I have a general inquiry on keeping the memory count in regards to memory management. Suppose my set routine is this (which I believe is the general set routine, save for checking that the new input does not equal the current value):
    -(void)setVariable:(id)newValue{
    [[variable release]];
    [[newValue retain]];
    Variable = newValue;
    1. Assuming 'newValue' has not been retained or allocated elsewhere, it's count here is 1. Is that right?
    2. Is the count of 'variable' also 1? We didn't actually retain 'variable'. But what it's pointing to is retained. I am unsure how the count is kept. Who get's the extra 1? 'variable' or 'newValue'?

Keep in mind that the variables you're dealing with here are pointers to objects. And that it's the actual objects that have a retainCount, not the pointers.
    So when you do:
    [newValue retain];
... it's whatever object newValue is pointing to that gets an incremented retainCount... not the newValue pointer itself.
    Then when you do:
    variable = newValue;
... now you've just made your "variable" pointer point to the _same object_ that newValue is pointing to. There's only one retainCount involved. So there is not an "extra 1" if I'm understanding that part of your question correctly.

  • LabVIEW pegs CPU usage after running VIs

    Hey folks,
this is a general inquiry simply because I don't think I could explain (nor upload) all of the complex pieces of the code involved in the creation of the isue I'm having.  Long story short, I have several processes, the main proc calls up two others, there is some information exchanged between procs etc in the initialization process as expected, and there are also several errors that occur (still in the process of debugging it).  The problem occurs when the processes are exited.  All VIs stop running as they should, however something in the background (no visual prescence) has my CPU pegged at just under 100% and I have to kill LabVIEW in the task manager or wait for it to slowly respond to me telling it to quit/exit...
My question is, has anyone else ever had this issue? if so, could you point me in a direction that may help me find the culprit in my case?  I've had plenty of situations when I started VIs that wouldn't stop due to the loop conditions I ut in place, but in this case all VIs show to be stopped...
    Thanks for any ideas

you guys are quick! thanks for the help! (kudos to you!)
I don't see the data trace execution toolkit, but I think we have a lic for it... I'll have to download it.
    regard to altenbach's questions:
How does the main process call the others?
One is an async call (remote interface)- the other is call by ref (GUI).  When this first happened, I figured the one I called async was stuck running, but when I brought it up it was stopped...
How is information exchanged between processes?
Mostly by User events that are held in an individual api VI for each proc, very little is done via 'remote enqueue' (only the exit of the two sub proc's are done that way right now)
How does the quit/exit dialog look like?
There isnt a separate dialog, but the execution of the exit/quit button seems to go just fine, doesnt hang while pressed or anything.
    What is your LabVIEW version?
    2011
Are you opening an infinite number of references, trying to allocate an infinite amount of memory, or similar?
It may be that I'm opening a new ref each time... I'm gonna have to look into this.. thanks!
again thanks for all your help

  • Form SPAM

We continue to have major complaints from clients about SPAM submissions via general inquiry forms on their  BC sites.  All forms have the difficult version of captcha (not recaptcha), but that does not seem to slow the SPAM down.  All SPAM submissions seem to include a URL in the comments field, which appears to be their objective.  Are their other creative solutions to block these bogus submissions?  Can I restrict links or URLs from being added to the comments field? Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks,  Brian

    Hi,
There's no known way to restrict this from being add within comments.
However I would recommend submitting a case on these various spam submissions so support can investigate further to help at least reduce this within the site somehow.

  • Lens Distortion Applications

This is just a general inquiry = is there an application which will help in reducing distortion
of photos ? I have several good photographs which have a lot of distortion in them.
If there an applicaton for distortion or a good course to use the distortion application in Camera Raw
    Thanks
    Dave Harman

This is just a general answer = for an application to reduce distortion one first has to know what type of distortion.  (Sorry, could not resist).
There are many different types of distortion and each one would have a unique correction.  There is a wide array of lens distortion adjustments in ACR.
Since each problem is unique I would recommend making a copy of your picture and just start moving the sliders to see it it looks better or worse.  Kind of like an eye exam.  Do you like 1 or 2?  2 or 1?
Generally ACR is set up to work from top to bottom with the sliders.
After you play with it awhile and come up with specific questions go the the Camera Raw Forum and post them there.
    Hope this helps.

  • [Solved] Out-Of-Date Packages In Official Repos

    Hello all,
Not really a question, but a general inquiry regarding the whole out-of-date process.
Suppose I encounter an out-of-date package, which is already marked as such, and has been for quite some time (can't really put a number on it), with nothing going on on testing.
In addition, the package maintainer is around, as can be deduced from the fact that other packages he is maintaining has been updated recently.
Is there anything more that can be done to check the "status" of such out-of-date package?
As an example (really, just an example), the qemu package has been marked out-of-date for about 2 weeks, while other packages maintained by the same maintainer have been updated in the last week or so.
    Thanks, Adam.

First of all, it was obviously not a complaint, just an honest question.
Anyway, I got what I need, thank you both.

  • After Effects & iMovie Photo slideshow into Final Cut Pro

    Hi,
So this is less of a specific problem per say but more of a general inquiry of an important and time-sensitive nature.
My partner and I recently made our first "professional" grade picture montage / slideshow. Most was in After Effects however some was made in iMovie. We've exported everything to mpeg 4 and are combining it all in Final Cut Pro.
    My questions are as follows...
    (1) It's being projected onto a screen therefore the highest quality of image and video is our main concern. Is MPEG4 the correct format to export it to? If not, what would be a better one? And if you don't mind a quick explanation, why is it better than MPEG4?
    (2) Is there a better and more quality protecting method other than exporting out of iMovie and AE to then import it directly into FCP, undergo another slew of renderings and exportings only to end up with a possibly sub-par product?
Thanks so much for any advice/help you can give!
    Julie

It plays smoothly in both the canvas and the viewer. I expected that, as ProRes clips in a ProRes timeline, it would integrate more seamlessly than the myriad codecs also on the timeline. Instead, it suffers from the only issues in the Final Cut Project.
I will give your suggestion a shot when I get home though. I conformed the settings that way with the motion graphics I exported from After Effects, and they're suffering the same issue, though not as conspicuously.

  • How do I get product key code for Crystal Designer 10

We've been using the designer for years and it suddenly quit working.  On doing the re-install I'm prompted for product key code and our has expired.  I don't see anywhere else on the site to get this.  Anyone know a link or a support number or a product key code?
    Thank you.

  • Extended Hardware Test - can this miss a dead hard drive?

    Hello,
I am having all kinds of problems with my computer since installing a recommended update last week. I cannot fully restart it, cannot make repairs with disk utility, and cannot reinstall OS X to the harddrive volume because it doesn't list any available volumes. My hardware profile, as listed in the Hardware Test utitily, is as follows:
    Product: MacBook
    Mac Model: MacBook 2, 1
CPU type: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Number of cores: 2
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
    L2 CPU Cache (shared): 4mb
    Boot Rom version: MB21.882.00A5.B07.0706270922
    System Serial #: xxxxxxxxxxx
    SMC version: 1.1780
    Memory:
    Overview: 1024 MB
    (details about RAM)
I ran the hardware test, choosing to perform extended testing (took ~40 minutes), and the result was "No trouble found." I noticed there is no mention of hard drive space - should there be? This information doesn't show up anywhere in the disc utility diagnostics/profile - leading me to the thing the harddrive is busted - but the hardware test found no problems. Is it possible for the hard drive to be busted but the hardware test to not recognize this? Any suggestions? [I posted a more detailed, general inquiry over here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7873412&tstart=0 without much luck.]
    Thank you!

Ok so I haven't received any helpful information on the question of whether or not Apple Hardware Test can fail to recognize a dead hard drive... can anyone recommend a replacement hard drive? I believe I need a 2.5" internal SATA, can anyone confirm this for me? Thank you!!!

  • No support from Adobe- going to have to make a complaint with Attorney General

I was recently in a fire (December 2010) and my Creative Suite Design Premium Student Edition was destroyed along with my new MacBook Pro.  I have contacted Adobe since April 20111 to try to acquire a replacement and have had no luck.  First off, I have received automated responses are that are not even a live person.  For example, I explained my situation and that I obviously don't have my serial numbers anymore because they were detroyed in the fire.  Adobe's response, here are your serial numbers, I am sorry you are having a hard time installing your software.  Does that sound like a live person or perhaps a person that does not care.
Secondly, I submitted my proof of purchase (my mom had purchased the computer and Suite for me).  All the information was available right on the sheet I submitted.  They came back and asked me for the e-mail address of my mother so they could look up her student account.  This was after I explained I was the student.
Also, I was informed by two people that I would need to fill out a letter of destruction and one person that told me I didn't.  They also told me I could perform a platform switch since I know have a PC.  However, when they finally got around to responding to my inquiry, they said it wasn't available anymore and I needed to upgrade to 5.5.  Now mind you, I had CS5 and Cs5.5 came out in April.  I have been contacting them since May, so they mean to tell me they have no more CS5 for PC?  No, they are just trying to upsell, which would mean $399 for me.
I am very disgusted with the service at Adobe and the fact that they know they have a monopoly.  They can have workers from other countries who live chat with you, and it takes 10 minutes for them to translate.  Not to mention the fact that if you need support by phone your wait time is 40 minutes.  They also have a tendency to close my cases even before they are resolved.  I know there is a window of 5 days you have to respond in e-mail, which I have done, but they still close it when they feel like they don't want to be bothered.
Have you ever scene the movie, Rainmaker?  This situation is like that movie.  They deny all claims and even when someone keeps submitting they continue to deny, playing the odds that someone won't contact an attorney.  They are totally in the wrong.  There is no way you can say that they are right when they don't actually read e-mails and provide awful customer service.  I feel sorry for the people that work at Adobe and think they have a good job.  Look what your company stands for.  This is why they are not listed in the Better Business Bureau.

You are not addressing Adobe here. This is a user to user forum. The only forum that Adobe has an official presence is the adobe.com forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/general/adobedotcom_feedback
Reposting there might generate a response from Adobe. I am sorry to here that you have suffered the loss in a fire. Never having been in a fire I cannot imagine what you have been through. I have suffered with losses due to flooding and that was bad enough. Adobe may not have a legal responsibility to help you, but maybe Adobe will help if for no other reason than the goodwill it will generate.

    Pankaj,
    Have you done below?
In the customer master >sales area data> sales tab page, check what is the exchange rate type maintained. Default is "M".
Now, go to SPRO>General Settings>Currencies>Enter exchange rates and under this node, check the value for USD to INR for the Echange rate type maintained in the customer master.
ALSO Create new Inquiry & Quotation after saving exchange rate..and see if error is occuring..
    Reward if this helps...
