General License Question on change of hardware platform?

Suppose a customer is running their current non SAP B1 system under MS Server 2003, but they also are trying to go-live with SAP B1 on the same server with SQL 2005. So now they have license keys for SAP B1 with MS SQL 2005 under MS Server 2003.
Suppose they decide, it is best to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2. They purchase a new server for 2008R2 (as they do not want to upgrade 2003 to 2008 as it is running legacy applications).
My question is, we will have to create them new keys for SAP B1 under server 2008R2 and SQL2008 R2. Does SAP allow this and is it considered as the same number of seats as the originally purchased?

Hi Syed,
Yes, you will have to get a new license key for the SQL 2008 configuration.
The Hardware Key plays the role in the license key setup. If you change your SQL Server the HW key changes. You will not need to worry as you can get a new license key for the SQL 08 setup holding the same number of license seats as per your previous license did. By requesting a change in license > system details to SAP for the customer by entering the New HW Key a New license will be generated with the same licenses seats as before but with the New HW key .

General License questions on reinstallation.

I have a very general question here as to the legal status of reinstalling 10.4 on a machine. In the wake of hurricane Katrina we had several older G3 macs donated which we passed on, however not finding a home for one I finally took it home myself, it was not claimed as it crashes on boot.
I can easily get a copy of the 10.4 generic install media which is the version supposedly installed on the machine (and presumeably legit given the source they came from) my question is will this violate any License agreements, and is there a serial number etc that I would need to recover from the HD before doing this?
Another good quetion is how can I verify the version that is already installed? I get a kernel error message with a version (I do not have this handy just now) so I guess that would at least verify if its really 10.4 installed, any links to a listing of such versions would be handy.

License transfer for change of hardware

I had to change my laptop due to some hardware problems. Now when I install Adobe CS5 on my new laptop, will I have to purchase a new license or can I some how transfer the license to the new machine?

Have you used this license on any other machines yet? You are allowed a maximum of two machines to share the same license if it is for personal use. General Licensing Question

I know the obvious answer is 'talk to SAP representative' and we are trying to line this up, but I thought I would ask the forum for real life examples. We run IDM using HCM as the source of truth and provision to many other SAP systems (both in productive and non productive instances). My understanding is this licensing is included as part of our SAP Netweaver licensing.
Now we want to look at provisioning to AD, Exchange and possible unix/linux systems. HCM will still be the source of truth so I am not looking for provisioning lots of non sap users into AD.
What is the licensing structure for non sap systems ? If I just use the AD create/change user job does that require a license ? Are there levels of license based on the number of users or number of non SAP systems to provision to ?
Just trying to get the facts straight in my head *before* the sales guys turn up !

Spoke with SAP. Basic rules are ;
If you use IDM to manage users in any non sap area such as AD or Unix, you need to buy the extra license (which is a per named user type license).
Any provisioning to SAP systems does not require any license cost since it is included as part of the original IDM package.
Regardless of the method you use to talk to these non-sap systems (eg Global provisioning framework task versus exporting an ASCII text file and using external tools to provision), you still require the license.
Licensing only applied to production systems. I can manage dev/test users on non-sap systems without any licensing issues .
Cost per user was discussed, and lets just say that for the recommended cost per user and the number of users we have, I can employ a person just to sit there and manually do the provisioning. But thats not quite as automated and immediate !

Can I share with anyone I want to ? (eg. my Mom, my American uncle, my co-worker at the Singapor Office etc. etc.) or are there any restrictions on this. ???

That’s exactly what they need to do. Once they do that they’ll receive an email asking them to verify that they’ve registered with Adobe. The email they use is their Adobe ID and is the email you’ll share the folio with.
Once they’ve installed the Adobe Content Viewer on their iPad and sign in using that ID and password they’ll receive a pop up advising them that the folio is available for download.

Lumira Server for BI Platform and Team/Edge consumption & licensing question

Hi. I have a few questions.
Question 1:
From my reading, I've heard that Lumira Edge/Team server may not be a part of BI-Suite License. I read a Lumira Server ASUG Webcast recap by Tammy Powlas here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) over the weekend and one of the Q&A questions struck me:
Q: Is this included with the BI Suite license from SAP?
A: Lumira Server for Teams (Edge Edition) is not covered under BI Suite License. However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
In a separate conversation late 2014, I thought I'd heard that Lumira Team/Edge server was supposed to be usable by BI Suite licensed customers, but it sounds like I'm mistaken?

Next, the second part of the statement gave me hope:

Is this slide to imply that the version without HANA (or HANA XS) for BI Platform will only really just serve as a user rights management and Lumira document repository? And that if I want to view a Lumira document, I must still open from the Lumira Desktop client?
It was suggested I start a new discussion thread to ask this licensing question about a product that's not out yet (but the slide says it's GA so I'm still confused) so here I am with my discussion thread!
Hopefully someone can make me less confused. I'm hoping the answer is as a BI-Suite customer that we do not have to make a decision to either invest in new Edge/Team licenses or buy HANA XS hardware to establish a beachhead of Lumira usage in our organization. We've been struggling with promoting Lumira and the sharing piece has been the sore spot.

Dreamweaver CS3 running on Windows 2003 Server, How to do a License Swap to a new Hardware

Hello, I have an urgent Licensing question belonging Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 running on Windows 2003 Server.

Cross hardware platform migration with Oracle VM

This is a cross hardware platform migration question. If I have Oracle on Solaris SPARC (64 bit) running in LDOM (currently known as Oracle VM for SPARC) and I want to convert this virtual machine to another virtual machine on Oracle VM Server 2.2 x86, is it possible?

Hi,
if you want to communicate with SAP Mobile devices - you need a SAP Netweaver installation in Mobile UsageMode. This is called the middleware system. It is not recommended to have this setup onn your Backend system but to have a dedicated server for it - cause of Workload, performance and monitoring.
If you run MI client on a PDA - then you need to install NSICom Creme as Java runtie on PDA - but the license is already included in SAP MI lizensing cost.
If you have to support larger Datasets, then you might need to install DB2e as persistence layer. This causes an additional licensing you need to pay to IBM - I think via SAP, but well, at the end you need to pay something on top if you run DB2e. The normal used persistence is free of charge. It is called FileIO up to MI7.0, with MI7.1 it is called MinDB.
So all you really need, is a dedicated Netweaver Mobile Box.

BO XIR2 Licensing Question

Was hoping if someone could help me out with a licensing question I have. I am trying to understand how BO licensing works.
I think it would be easier if I asked the question through an example.
The scenario is a situation where we have a standard BO XIR2 enterprise installation with an app server, db server and web server.
1. The app server is a normal BO XIR2 installation
2. The web server is also as from a BO XIR2 installation.
3. The db server runs the data store and audit module is on in the db.
4. The following report types are to be used by the end user
    4a. Crystal Reports
    4b. Web Intelligent reports (View, drill down etc)
    4c. Desktop Intelligence report (View, drill down etc)
5. The development box is the same setup in which the 10 developers should have access to have access to these build the universes, crystal, webi and deski reports.
6. The prod environment will be used by 50 users who should be able to access webi crystal and deski reports.
7. These users should also be able to create custom webi reports
Since the licensing for BO is a bit different, can someone please help understand all the different types of licenses required for this setup?

BO licensing is pretty straight forward, but you should speak to a sales rep for particulars. Generally from the server we have 3 types CPU (in which case everything you stated would be supported), Named Users (in which case you would need 1 per user logging in) and concurrent users (which would require enough licenses to support the maximum of concurrently logged on users).
The slow response is likely due to the US thanksgiving holiday, I'm sure more folks will be back next week.

WS2012R2 Licensing Question - 95% confident of my understanding, but would appreciate confirmation

After a huge amount of research, I THINK I understand how WS2012R2 licensing works.
Since we’re a new business, we’re keeping things pretty simple for the time being. I would appreciate some confirmation that my understanding of licensing makes sense though.
I first describe our architecture, then the four options, and then my understanding of the four options.

We've identified the following four options:

My understanding is as follows:
Option 1 is flawed because we would not be able to boot up the VMs on machines 3 and 5. This is because a standard OEM edition license cannot be transferred, and so in the event of hardware failure, the license stays with the primary machine and cannot
be moved to the backup machine.
Option 2 is somewhat flawed due to the 90 day limit on transferring licenses. For example, say Machine 1 fails, and I transfer the VMs and the license to Machine 3. That step is permitted, however, I cannot reverse this transfer for 90 days
which is obviously suboptimal since Machine 3 is intended to be a temporary backup machine.
Option 3 is sufficient for my needs, subject to the only caveat that I understand that these OEM licenses are "locked" to the physical machine and cannot be transferred to another physical machine. There are NO other limitations (e.g. I
would be able to legally and practically migrate a VM from Machine 1 to Machine 3 without worrying about activation issues, etc...)
Option 4 is sufficient for my needs, and would be the most flexible as the licenses could be moved if necessary down the road.

As has been stated many times in this forum, it is best to talk to a trained Microsoft licensing specialist about licensing questions. Remember that a license is a legal contract between you and Microsoft, and using a forum for legal advice is a tad

That said, non-OEM licenses will always give you the most flexibility. Secondly, you can get a volume license discount with as few as five copies of software, so you might want to investigate that. Volume contracts provide additional benefits
outside of the what you get with the licenses. Lastly, ensure that you have enough licenses to host the maximum number of VMs that will ever be running on a given host. Hint, you mention Standard on a host that is a replica for four VMs.
If all four of those VMs are running, you would need a minimum of two Standard licenses assigned to that host.

I want to buy a new iMac from from the apple store online but I want to know if in the future I can change the hardware of my computer like ram, hd, CPU, graphic card in an apple centre... Is it possible or my iMac will be always the same? Can I upgrade it? Thanks

Only the RAM is considered an upgradable part on iMacs. The harddrive however can be replaced if it fails by Apple. Unfortunately the graphics and CPU are not upgradable on iMacs. If you need to be able to upgrade the computer's major parts in years to come you should consider buying the Mac Pro, which is a far more versatile unit.

Instant Client SQL*Plus License Question

Can anyone shed some light on a license question for me? (I know that most license questions are for Oracle Sales to handle, but this involves a supposedly free product.)
I want to use SQL*Plus with the Instant Client in a production environment, but I am not sure whether I am entitled to. Does Instant Client "support" SQL*Plus only in the sense that if I already own a license for SQL*Plus I can use it with the Instant Client, or is the Instant Client SQL*Plus package also truly free to deploy and use?
The download page has links to download a basic Instant Client, plus several optional packages, one of which is SQL*Plus. However, the FAQ does not tell me whether the optional packages (specifically SQL*Plus) is also free to deploy and use in a production environment, and I could not find any other helpful document.
The FAQ says that "Instant Client is FREE for anyone to use in a development or production environment." It also says immediately following that "Instant Client can be used to run your OCI, OCCI, Pro*C, JDBC, and ODBC applications without installing a full Oracle Client. In addition, Instant Client supports SQL*Plus." [emphasis mine]
I would appreciate any help on this.

CS5 Student License Question

Licensing question:
In 2011, I purchased a student license to CS5 for my mac. I have installed it on one laptop that I am the primary user of. The laptop has two user logins, mine and my husbands.
Can my husband use CS5 on the computer on an occassional basis (either through my username or his) and still be okay from a licensing point of view? There are several questions that hint at this, but I can't find a clear answer. I've read the EULA, but I'm still confused whether this is permissable or not.

That's into the area of legal interpretation, but you don't need to overthink it. You may have purchased the license, but technically the activation is per computer, is it not? So one could simply assume that this is perfectly intended or at least within the freedom that the EULA provides... It's not like you're letting your neighbors use it for a buck an hour, or is it?

I always get "general error" when I change value of "Digitizer"

I tried to capture a Prores422 project by FCP6 and Kano3 card.
I changed setting of "Capture Preset Editor" to ensure capture what I needed.
I think parameter value of "Digitizer" will determine Bit Depth of the project.
The original value of "Digitizer" is "AJA 8-bit Digitizer". If I selected "AJA 10-bit Digitizer",it will pop up generel error.
If I re-select the value to "AJA 8-bit Digitizer", it will still pop up general error.
Please give me a hand.

From the information available it appears that your install could be conflicting with a previous version or installation. I would recommend reviewing your installation logs to verify the root cause of your difficulties.
