General Preferences

Hi,
I have been looking around the forum for a solution to a
problem that may have already been answered but I cannot find it.
Is there a way to export the 'General Preferences' of a
project and import them into a new project?
I have approx 20 projects that I need to update and so far
the only way I have been able to find how to do it is 'project by
project'.
Thanks.
Andrew

Hi Andrew
If you have Captivate 3, you can try this.
1. Configure the preferences as desired in the first project.
2. Click File > Export > Preferences... - This should
produce a dialog where you may name the .CPR file. Give it a file
name and click the Save button.
3. Open the second and subsequent projects and click File
> Import > Preferences... and browse to the file you saved in
step 2.
Cheers... Rick

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

  • General preference box unchecked but tool tips still showing up in PPro CC

I've tried checking and unchecking the tool tips box in general preferences but the tool tips are still appearing - and getting in my way.  ;-)   Any ideas?  thanks.

Are all the tooltips still popping up, or are do most of them go away while others remain? I believe it's by design that the following tooltip-esque popups remain: clip info in Timeline, marker info in the Timeline and the Source & Program monitors, Start/End/Duration when mouse pointer is over the beginning of the timebar in the Source or Program monitor.
Let us know if either you're still seeing other tooltips or if you think the preference should hide all tooltips.

Same here on an older iMac since Lion. Thanks for the uncheck wake for network access tip though, it doesn't do it either in that case, I will leave it that way.

  • How do I reset General Preferences in Premier Elements 12?

Having used Premiere Elements 10 for a while, I now have Premiere Elements 12 on my PC, I like to set the duration for still images to 5 secs, not the default 6.  I made a mistake when doing this by altering the Video Transition Default Duration in error, realised my mistake and reset that at 30 frames (is that correct for PAL?)  I then altered the Still Image duration from 150 to 125, although it is showing at 150 when I access General Preferences.  When I import a still image in, it says 5.00 sec under image in Project Assets but when added to the project all the images say duration 5.01 secs.  I have no idea what I've done wrong and why 5.01 secs seems to be the duration.
Please could anyone tell me how to reset the General Preferences back to default settings, if this can't be done, what should I have all the General Preference settings at for PAL?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

    DSgal
Same thing in Premiere Elements 10 and 12.
If you have a PAL project, when you open Edit Menu/Preferences/General, you will see defaults
Video Transition Default Duration = 30 frames
In the PAL project 25 frames/second, those 30 frames are equivalent to 1.20 seconds.
Audio Transition Default Duration = 1.00 seconds
In the PAL project 25 frames/second, 1.00 second is equivalent to 25 frames
(frames vs samples for audio is another story for another time)
Still Image Default Duration = 150 frames
In the PAL project 25 frames/second, so those 150 frames are equivalent to 6.00 seconds.
The above defaults will apply to all the stills that are imported AFTER the sets are made.
If you want to change the Still Image Default Duration for the project from 6.00 to 5.00 seconds, then BEFORE Still import you change
150 frames to 125 frames. That gives 5.00, not 5.01 seconds.
    Examples
    6.00 second duration = 150 frames
    5.00 second duration = 125 frames
    4.00 second duration = 100 frames
    3.00 second duration = 75 frames
    2.00 second duration = 50 frames
    1.00 second duration = 25 frames
Again, these settings are done BEFORE and not after Still import.
If you are in the project with your Stills already on the Timeline with the Still Image Default Duration of 150 frames (6.00 seconds) as defined in preferences and you decide to change the duration of the Still from 6.00 seconds to 5.00 seconds, then you right click the still, select Time Stretch, and set the Time Stretch dialog to 5.00 seconds.
    Example in Time Stretch dialog....from 00;00;06;00 to 00;00;05;00 (hours;minutes;seconds;frames).
This can be done for one Timeline Still or more than one Timeline Still at a time.
Please review and consider and then let us know if you are OK with the details.
    Thank you.

  • How can I save general preferences?

Not tool specific.  Things like grids, image interpolation, ect.
I want to have a workspace specifically for pixel art, and do not want to have to reset all of the general preferences when I want to create a pixel art file.  Is there a way to save the general settings?
    Thanks!
    DC

When I saved the new Workspace (Pixel Art), and reload my normal Workspace (Dana Standard), it saved the menu locations, but not specific tool presets nor anything under the General Preferences, like Grids, etc.  This is CS4, btw.
As a test, I saved the new workspace (Pixel Art) with grid settings at 8pixels/8subdivisions.  I then quit photoshop.  I relaunched, and the 8/8 settings remained.  When I reloaded my usual Workspace (Dana Standard), the menus changed, but all of the Photoshop general preferences remained the same, including the 8/8 grid settings.
All of this means that Workspace does NOT save General Preferences.
Noel, when I save the Workspace, it only gives me three things to select and save:
    Panel Locations
    Keyboard Shortcuts
    Menus
...none of these are part of PS General Preferences.

Yes, I have the same problem, and trying to find an answer. Do you have a TAR open, the call is to a procedure OracleApps.UUI that appears to be able to take 10 variables but the javascript for General Preferences doesn't appear to be passing them correctly.

  • Could not load General preference pane

Running Mt Lion and when I click on General in the System Preferences I get, "Could not load General preference pane". When I search for the plist..there does not appear to be one. Any ideas...ANYONE?

Do Finder > Go > Go to Folder and paste this and press Go!
    ~/Library/Preferences
A window will appear, scroll down until you see this file
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
there may be two of them, drag the one you can to the Trash and reboot, set your System Preferences again, the file was recreated, the original was corrupted if this solution works.

  • General preferences do not save

Hi everyone! This is driving me crazy!
I have Lion installed in my Mac BookAir, and I have started having problems since the last 2 or 3 days.
The main one is that every time I restart or turn on the computer, about 10 applications are auromatically loaded with some windows.
I tried to change the general preferences, unticking the "Restore windows when quitting...", but it looks like the new preferences are not saved. When I close and reopen the system preferences, it comes back to the original situation, with the ticked box and 10 applications, 10 documents and 10 servers selected.
I have tried to change another feature in that pane, like the highlighting color to something different of the original blue, and the same happens. Once closed and reopened again, the old settings appear again.
I have also tried to turn the SAVE APPLICATION STATE folder to only read, or only specific (application) subfolders... it worked for the specific subfolder, but it keeps on opening the 10 applications when rebooted. Very annoying.
Also that I noticed in Safari is that it has stopped keeping track of the history of sites visited.
Can Anyone tell me what to do? Is it me? Is it Lion? Help!!!!
    RGB

    Hi,
I have already transferred all data from the old user to the new one, with my brother's help, who is a very smart guy and a highly skilled help-desk man.
I had almost no issues with the transferring (I did transfer all the email accounts, browsers bookmarks, itunes,...).
The discussion you are directing me to... it's about freezing cursors? I guess there's a mistake...  you were absolutely right saying that the fix would come creating another user account. No problems with this new user account, so far.
    Thanks for everything,
    Ramon

  • General Preferences Not Saving

    Hello all,
Does anyone know or have any tips as to why my general settings are not saving. Every time I open a project from the desktop I have to go into preferences and reset "use system shortcuts".
My system: Mac PPC 10.4.11 , AE 8.0.2.27
    Thanks -WF

Open a command prompt and type % echo $HOME and % echo $PATH. These two commands will return a list of directories. If ~user/[username]/Library/Adobe is not listed, then it's likely that these variables are not set correctly. For more info on the technobabble check some UNIX-related pages such as this one for instance:
http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Teaching/Unix (Lesson 8 deals with variables)
Sorry, I can't be of more specific help. I'm only getting my first personally owned Mac ever tomorrow. ;-) Until now my encounters with Apples have been limited, but since UNIX commands are standardized across multiple platforms, they should work. At least they did back then on IRIX when I was still using an SGI machine...

  • I Already checked the general preferences box "double click titlebar to minimize windows," all applications responding to this command EXCEPT for Safari, why?

I thought that I had done something wrong, but it appears that Safari is indeed unresponsive to the double click title bar to minimize command.
All my other applications are responsive to this, but not Safari.
Also, maybe someone could help me by answering these questions:
how it is possible to save safari browsers with the tabs that are open, so when I exit out and reopen safari I can resume where I was before?
why is it that I don't see that little red circle with the number at the bottom of the Safari icon that tells me how many browser windows are currently open so I can juggle between them?
Why is it that you can no longer click on the application icon to shrink the window? I am positive that this was possible on previous mac OS.

I had missed that double-click title bar was no longer working in Safari (I really miss windowshading and tabbed finder windows!), until I read this thread from sharoo..
    Carolyn Samit wrote:

Since it's application specific, to to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
I'm seeing the same problem now. Tried deleting Cache.db, also deleted Preferences:com.apple.Safari.plist in reference to another thread; still don't get any response to double-clicking title bar. Lately, I usually do it accidentally, but it would seem to be a handy shortcut, especially since it's advertised as being present.
Note: I just tried it in other applications, and I don't see minimizing with double-click anywhere, and can't find any preferences setting for it. [Panic sets in... - am I losing my mind?] I tried looking in the Secrets prefpane, with no luck there either.
    What am I missing?
Has this been changed? I also noticed that the green (right-size) button behaves differently now, and there are several ways to arrange icons in the finder, some like the old way, some very different and confusing (I may have figured that out, but have to retry when I get there).
