General question about iTunes Match and multiple libraries

Hello to everyone,
I have a general question about the iTunes Match service, which is available since yesterday in my country (Italy). Currently my library situation is the following:
Computer A (desktop, Windows 7): "big" iTunes library (about 20 GB), at the moment not associated with my Apple ID
Computer B (MacBook Air 2011): "small" iTunes library (about 5 GB), associated with my Apple ID
At the moment, both my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) are synchronized with the smaller library on the MacBook Air.
Question is as follows: should I subscribe to iTunes Match, would it be possible to upload the "big" library (provided I associate it with my Apple ID) to iCloud while keeping my devices synchronized with the "small" one?
Ideally, at the end of the day, the situation should be the following: both iOS devices with music from the small library + possibility of downloading songs from iCloud (coming from the big one). Is this possible?
Maybe the question sounds stupid, but I want to be sure about this before paying for the service.
Thanks a lot.

Yes, you could also associate your larger library with iTunes match if you associated your Apple ID with it. However any purchases in the library made from another Apple ID will not be matched with iTunes much.
If both libraries are part of iTunes match, then all your devices will see all of the content from both libraries, which content you choose to have on those devices and which you have accessible via iTunes match is entirely up to you.

  • ITunes match with multiple libraries

    I can't seem to find a satisfactory answer to this.  Namely, how does iTunes Match treat multiple libraries on the same Mac.  In my case, I spent a lot of time segregating my music.  Thus, I have a rock library, a classical library, an instrumental (Windham Hill and Narada) library, an ambient recording library.  It makes sense to me to do this rather that dump everything into one pot.  That way, I can load a Touch with a specific library and don't have to create a zillion playlists.  Using the same iTunes login, how will Match treat these different libraries?  Will it only concern itself with what it finds in the currently open library?  How will it treat different iPod Touches that are linked to a specific library?  Will it want to push the wrong music to a Touch? Would appreciate any thoughts.

    One person sets up Match on their computer using the iTunes account.  Uploads everything to match.
    I would recommend waiting until that person is done, and do computers one at a time.  No particular reason, just seems sensible.
    Next person sets up match using same iTunes account details.  Uploads their stuff.  They will then see everything the previous user put into the system, unless you select "Hide music not on this computer" in the view menu.  Previous user will now see their stuff too.
    Rinse and repeat.
    This is how it worked with my multiple machines anyway...  As long as every computer uses the same iTunes account for the store, you all get access to the same Match account.

  • Stupid question re iTunes match and family sharing

    So, here is my dilemma...we have a large family and a ton of os devices--iphones, iPads, apple tv's, iMacs, MacBooks, etc.  Up until now, we have set everyone up on the same apple id, which has been crazy--my and my wife's phone ringing with the kids' FaceTime calls, me not being able to sign into iTunes match because there were too many devices associated with our account, and so on.  Now, wit the upgrade to iOS 8, my wife's phone is ringing when I receive calls and vice versa.  So, I was looking into the family sharing, but am not sure how that affects iTunes match.  I want to keep my iTunes match, because I have a huge music library and enjoy being able to listen to my music anywhere.  I guess my questions is, what is the best way to set up my accounts now?  Keep my apple id for my iOS devices, and set everyone else up as a "family member" under sharing with them having their own apple id's?  If so, what does that do to my iTunes match library?  can I keep iTunes match and still have family sharing on?  I don't care if I can share my music library with everyone in my family, but what I do care about is that I don't want to lose my access to iTunes match and my entire library, some of which consists of songs downloaded 7 years ago.  I know it's a stupid question, but as much as I've read and searched, I still haven't found the answer to my question.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    Sounds very bad... you can try this, create a account for each member of the family, delete all products (leave all your devices as new) and put the accounts in the devices again, for example, this iPad is from the kid, put the Apple ID of the kid in her iPad, after, this iPhone is from your wife, put the Apple ID from your wife in her iPhone. But remember, the purchases save in the Apple IDs when the family use before, for change the purchases contact with Apple.

  • ITunes match and multiple accounts

    Do any of you know whether having multiple Apple ID's and iTunes match will interfere with App Store purchases?
    Let me eleborate.  We have 2 iPhone 4s in the family each with their own apple ID, so obviously some music is purchased by both and some apps are purchased by both.  Both devices synchronize with a single library in iTunes.  My fear is that when I flip the switch on iTunes Match it will lock me or the other individual out from the purchases that we share on our devices and result in a nightmare.  From what I understand once you log into iTunes match you cant log into another account for 90 days.  Would appreciate some clarification if any of you know.
    Thanks for your input.

    MacUserAE --- based on my experience over the last few days, I would urge you to STAY AWAY from iTunes Match until Apple can better support the concept of multiple Apple ID's sharing content. After purchasing the Match upgrade about a week ago, I've spent perhaps 20 hours of my home life dealing with Match-related issues.  What you are fearful of - that you will somehow be locked out of your ID and your purchased content - is exactly what happened to me.
    I also thought that iTunes Match would be a good way to consolidate and then share music/video/apps between family members. I purchased the service with 2 goals in mind:  share content in my house via a Mac Mini server, and also "consolidate" the content my wife and I had purchased across three separate Apple IDs. I am not a technology novice.  I read the various online boards, read the Apple support pages, and based on what I read was convinced that Apple's product would deliver exactly the benefits I was looking for.
    I was wrong.
    Apparently I did not migrate or associate my hardware (2 notebooks & a mini home server) in an Apple-approved sequence.  After putting about 10 hours into the project, I discovered that I had "used up" my computer's associations and could no longer download previously purchased items.  I am now missing 1000's of  purchased iTunes songs and videos.  I am not permitted to download or recover them until the 90-day "timer" runs out on each of my computers.  (Currently 84 days & counting). Ironically, I have an exceptionally "clean" and easy music collection: I have literally no shared/ripped/illegal content, as all of my media files were either uploaded from a purchased CD or purchased through iTunes.
    When I contacted Apple for support, I encountered a steady stream of suspicion and poor/misleading information from the different support reps I spoke to, each of whom seem to working independently. Support is apparently by Chat only, and much of the dialog seems canned, or pre-written.  For eample, the last support rep I dealt with first described his own experience setting up match using these pre-written cut & paste "snippets" that had obviously been prepared earlier, as they did not actually address the questions I was asking. Later in our encounter, he seemed to forget what he had already "pasted" and he wrote (in real-time) that he had actually not had any first-hand experience with the product.
    Discouraging all around.

  • Apple TV, iTunes match and multiple apple IDs

    My husband and I recently got Apple TV and also converted from MobileMe to iCloud.  We each have our own unique Apple IDs that we each use to purchase from iTunes.  We also set up a shared Apple ID to create Home Sharing so that we could access our music libraries in Apple TV (so three separate, unique Apple IDs).  And we each signed up for iTunes Match, but on our individual Apple IDs (not the shared Apple ID).  Now I'm trying to turn on iTunes Match in Apple TV and am running into an issue.  It seems that since Apple TV is set up with the shared Apple ID (so that we can access things via Home Sharing and also charge purchases on Apple TV to the joint account), we may not be able to turn on iTunes Match in Apple TV because that shared Apple ID hasn't turned on iTunes Match.
    My question is: should we spend an additional $25 to turn on iTunes Match on the shared Apple ID and will doing so prevent us from accessing iTunes Match on one of our individual IDs on our laptop (which is how I personally acces iTunes and sync all my devices - iPhone, iPad, etc. -  my husband does his syncing on his work computer) - due to the 90 day error message?  I'm trying to figure out the best, most practical approach for accessing all of our music and other iTunes downloaded content as well as photos, etc. and I'm struggling a bit here.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

    Have you tried the simple signout and try to sign back in with the other username and password? You may need to reduce the number of device sharing on the account you wish to access , I believe there are limits look at apple.com

  • Question about dependent projects (and their libraries) in 11g-Oracle team?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a question about dependent projects. An example:
    In JDeveloper 10.1.3.x if you had for instance 2 projects (in a workspace): project 1 has one project library (for instance a log4j library) and project 2 is a very simple webapplication which is dependent on project 1. Project 2 has one class which makes use of log4j.
    This compiles fine, you can run project 2 in oc4j, and the libraries of project 1 (log4j) are added on the classpath and everything works fine. This is great for rapid testing as well as keeping management of libraries to a minimum (only one project where you would update a library e.g.)
    However in 11g this approach seems not to work at all anymore now that weblogic is used, not even when 'export library' is checked in project 1. The library is simply never exported at all - with a noclassdeffound error as result. Is this approach still possible (without having to define multiple deployment profiles), or is this a bug?
    Thanks!

    Hi Ron,
    I've tried what you said, indeed in that .beabuild.txt when 'deploy by default' is checked it adds a line like: C:/JDeveloper/mywork/test2/lib/log4j-1.2.14.jar = test2-view-webapp/WEB-INF/lib/log4j-1.2.14.jar
    Which looks fine, except that /web-inf/lib/ is empty. I presume its a sort of mapping to say: Load it like it in WEB-INF/lib? This line is not there when the deploy by default is not checked.
    I modified the TestBean as follows (the method that references Log4j does it thru a Class.forName() now only):
    public String getHelloWorld() {
    try {
    Class clazz = Class.forName("org.apache.log4j.Logger");
    System.out.println(clazz.getName());
    catch(Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return "Hello World";
    In both cases with or without line, it throws:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.log4j.Logger

    Secondly I added weblogic.xml with your suggested code, in the exploded war this results in a weblogic.xml which looks like:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <weblogic-web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-web-app.xsd" xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-web-app">

    </container-descriptor>

    <library-name>jsf</library-name>
    <specification-version>1.2</specification-version>
    </library-ref>
    </weblogic-web-app>
    The only thing from me is that container-descriptor tag, the rest is added to it during the deployment. Unfortunately, it still produces the same error. :/ Any clue?

  • Questions about iTunes Match before subscribing

    I'm thinking about signing up for iTunes Match so that I can access my music on my Apple TV without my MacBook Pro being on. I have 1,575 songs in my library and 1,275 of the are purchased from the iTunes store. Will iTunes, match all the songs inlcuding the ones I purchased or the 300 that I ripped off a CD? Also since the songs will be matched that means I can download them from any device right? Will I also be able to delete the orginial files off my computer and then download the ones that were matched? My last question is after one year and I don't re-subscribe will I still be able to keep the matched songs? Someone please help me with these questions so that I can subrscribe as soon as possible. Thank you

    A search of the forum would have turned up these answers for you.
    Most songs that you have purchased from the iTunes store will be identified as "purchased." Only songs that are imported into iTunes from other sources such as CD or Amazon's service are eligible to be "matched" or "uploaded." Any imported songs that are not "matched" will be "uploaded." But do not expect 100% accuracy at any rate. When you download "purchased" songs to your library, or another computer, or an iDevice you are getting the same song you already have. When you download "matched" songs you are getting the version from the iTunes store, and "uploaded" songs are obviously the same songs that are already in your iTunes library.
    For imported songs that are "matched" that you might download they are yours to keep. If you choose not to renew your iTunes Match subscription nothing at all will happen to the songs that you downloaded from the store.
    However, if your primary purpose is to upgraded existing music you might be disappointed in the results.

  • Question about Itunes account and gift cards

    My question is that if I log into my itunes account on a different computer than i usully use, can I access it later on my normal computer, or do I have to reedem it on the same computer that I originally put the gift card on? please help!

    You can log into the store on any PC that has iTunes installed and see your balance.
    You do realize though, if you download something on that PC you will need to copy it over to your normal PC? Such as byusing a memory stick or your iPod put into manual mode.
    You only get one download. You can't re-download things to multiple PCs.

  • ITunes match and multiple Apple IDs

    Due to certain circumstances, my family is left with one computer for the household. This computer is subscribed to iTunes Match.  Prior to that, everyone synced thier devices on another mac which is not available anymore.  The question is, can they now sync and backup with the computer that is signed in to iTunes Match? If not then is there a way to work around it?  Music is not the issue in this situation, it's the backup data, photos and apps.

  • ITunes Match and multiple copies of the same song

    I have multiple copies of the same song in my iTunes collection.  For example, the song is on the original album, the "Best Of" album and on the "25th Anniversary" album.

    Is anybody else have a problem with itunes Match....cause i am...i drag a song list into itunes...imatch starts to scan then it stops and give me a itunes store error...i log out of itunes a few times...then bag in and it works sometimes...now today it is not working!!

    In iOS 5 all music is downloaded to permanent storage when you listen to it. It is similar in iOS 6 except the "streamed" songs are not store in permanent memory on the iOS device.

  • General questions about using webservices and xml as opposed to an oracle driver

    Dear Experts; I have a general question which I have yet to test. Is it faster to use an ODBC driver to connect and retrieve data from an Oracle database than creating a .net webservices and using an XML to get the data for your web application. THank you

    At some point in the architecture stack some component will need to access the database in order to get the information from the database. That component will need to use an Oracle client driver.

  • How to handle iTunes Match with multiple libraries (one account, 5 family members)?

    How would this work, in the situation below ...
    Everyone has their own iCloud account (for their own syncing purposes).
    But we (family) ALL share the same iTunes account (for purchasing).
    How will this work, since we all have our own iTunes libraries?

  • Question about limiting matches and the applicability of LimitFilter?

    We have a use-case were the GUI allows the users enter a string that we lookup against an index in the cache using a LikeFilter and by appending "%" to the string entered by the user (the index actually contains the first N characters converted to lowercase and the string entered by the user is converted to lower case and truncated to N positions before the lookup, we have additional logic to handle matching the truncated part of the search string etc but we can ignore this extra complexity for now).
    The problem is that if the user enter few (or in the worst case zero) characters the resulting search takes a very long time (since a large number of keys are collected and sent to the client) and the client is not interested (or able) to receive all the results at once.
    The LimitFilter seems useful for limiting the number of keys actually sent to the client but from what I read in other forum threads it seems like the nested filter is re-executed and the full result built on the server each time the client request a new page of say 100 keys. This sounds like it still would be time and memory consuming on the server if the underlying filter produce a HUGE number of results each time it is invoked!?
    Have I misunderstood the way the Limitfilter operates or is there some other solution you can recommend to the problem?
    Best Regards
    Magnus

    Thanks for the info!
    I do however have two specific cases in mind and would like to know more about what overhead calls to "nextPage" would result in:
    1. The LimitFilter wraps a AndFilter. The N first characters of a string atribute is indexed (ordered index) and LikeFilter is used with a "xxx%" substring as key together with a InFilter on a indexed integer attribute using a small (typically max 4 element) set of integers. The value range for the integer attribute is faily small (no more than like 10-15 values exists today) so this filter will not limit the search that much (even not sure an index makes much sense but that is how we do it today - how would the amount of re-calculations at nextPage be affected if I drop this index?).
    2. A single EqualsFilter on an indexed integer attribute (part of the composite key) using a KeyExtractor as argument.
    Ie if I for each of the cases wrap the filter in a Limitfilter (with a page size of N) how much calculations are performed the first time how much of the calculations would be repeated by Coherence each time i call nextPage?
    Best Regards

  • General question about storage, networking, and using large amounts of data

    I have been using a powermac tower G5 up until now. I bought my daughter a macbook pro 15" i7, talk about a zippy little machine. What a screamer. I can't believe how fast it is with final cut express, Aperture, and Photoshop. I tend to use higher end stuff, video, photos, etc. Hence I need not only a good fast processor, but the storage....need lots of hard disk space.
    oh, did I mention I bought this for my daughter who's about to go off to college? Heh, when I'm home, she loses the machine to me.... *evil grin*
    Anyways, I haven't considered using a laptop before for me personally as I just don't care for the small screen size, no mouse, and things like that.
    Seems I've changed my opinion, esp seeing as the new mouse track pad is a game changer. I still am not crazy about the small screen size, but I can get over it.
    The one thing I can't get around is the small disk storage. I have 4 TB on my big machine. Between my video, photography, and music, I am nearing a full TB of just raw stuff. If I count all the things I've stored, especially finished videos I make of photography projects, well you can image the chomping that occurs on disk storage.
    So what is a man to do about storage?
    I'm really getting hooked on this zippy little machine. The idea of dragging it around is compelling. Having my work not tied to a desk is fun.
    but the lack of storage is sucky, terribly so.
    I have one possible option, taking the G5 and making it a server. I can use it for backup and high speed transfer, working on the transfer part today.
    I thought I'd poll the collective wisdom of the community and see what do you peeps think is the best overall way to handle such a situation?
    What is the absolute fastest best way to use external drives? Firewire 800 is ok, but when working with 400gb aperture database files....
    I'm hoping there is some way to start posturing myself to really use a laptop for my full computing experience.
    Or am I trying to make a small portable machine act like a tower? Is this not a reasonable hope at this point in time?
    I'm open to suggestions. I'm going to purchase something when my daughter takes this laptop with her to college. Either a new mac pro tower or laptop. I love the portability but need speed and massive storage.
    Thanks for opining.

    Storage:
    1. Replace the drive with a larger one. Up to 1 TB is now available for notebook drives.
    2. Get a portable external drive for additional storage needs. See the options at OWC as an example.
    Drive speed:
    1. FW 800 should be fast enough for your work. If the computer has an ExpressCard slot then consider a card supporting full speed eSATA. You may then achieve speeds closer to the internal bus.
    A laptop is not a tower so stop thinking of or comparing to your tower. Besides the laptop's speed compared to your G5 is more like comparing a Ford Focus to a Ferrari F150.
    As for "polling" opinions here: polling is forbidden by the forums' Terms of Use.
