site into a dynamic site. From what I understand, which is not
much, I need to create a database of the products. What easy-to-use
application do you recommend for creating this database? What type
of database do you recommend? We use DreamWeaver 2004 MX. Is it
extremely difficult to inegrate the database into DreamWeaver 2004
MX? What resources or books do recommend? Any pointers, tips and
resources are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

ValueWeb is hosting that site with Apache. This means it's a
*nix server.
That suggests that PHP/MySQL would be a good choice for you.

No. But honestly, I recommend you a) upgrade to DW8, and b)
get a copy of
Foundation PHP for Dreamweaver 8, by David Powers. Everything
you need to
know is in there, including how to get PHP going with Apache
on your local
testing server, how to create the database in MySQL, and how
to access data
from the database and display it on your page. It would be
money well
spent.

General question and RAW Files

My apologies if this has been asked before, or if this is in the wrong forum, but I just couldn't find all the answers that I was looking for by searching the forums.
I am getting ready to purchase a new Mac Pro for my wife (and myself of course) because she has really gotten into digital photography. In addition, she has asked for a new high end Camera. Something that would let her enjoy her hobby to the fullest. Now I have a couple of questions I'm still looking for clarification on.
1. What exactly are RAW files, most of the other terminology she has thrown at me I have found the answers too and think I now understand. I am getting the feeling this is something that I should understand based upon what I have read but I just havn't found a clear definition.
2. Is there a good website that I can use to help educate myself in order to make informed decisions in purchasing a new camera and helping make full use of the new mac. I enjoy the help of the forums but I don't want to waste anyone's time when I can just 'RTFM' in a manner of speaking.
I have already bribed her to buy the mac, however I ask these questions due to the fact the camera is a surprise for her b-day so I don't want to just start asking her questions and give it away. I want to make sure I get the right camera the first time around.

A raw file in essence saves the information differently, so you can make a photo mistake (underexpose for example) and correct it within reason on your computer. with other formats ie. jpg you get what you get, the information is embedded into your file and you really can't change anything. so if you have a really red photo, take it out in raw, but in jpg you can take it out but then it will replace with green. hard to explain the numbers are set in jpg, not so in raw. Or the underexposed example, in raw you play with the numbers and it can still come out good, in jpg format you do the same thing and the photo would lose crispness, lose saturation, and color, and would probably come out looking washed out.
There are standards starting in the RAW arena DNG and most programs do support it. and it is the way to go if you are considering high end photography, amatuer or not.
my latest complaint is that i was trying to utilize my TIFF files made from a raw format for some of these quickie projects. I'm having a bit of an output problem here with iphoto. But once solved will probably be fine. but no matter i would want HIGH input, so there is plenty of wiggle room for whatever output.
I have a D70 nikon... takes only 6.1 mp shots.. works great for my usage for now. cost is in the $1500 range. Best advice is pick a brand and stick with it. because once you start buying the lens's to go with the camera they don't alway work on other new digital bases from different brands. anything SLR is going to give you the same feel shooting from an old film based SLR. Some lens's will swap out. My old flashes from my older cameras work fine in digital.
No matter what you get, shooting in raw format takes up space. minimum 20mb per photo. retouch resize, and resave and you can get larger. And although the iphoto 6 does seem to be able to handle the large requirements, it seems they can't handle the quality that goes with it on the output end. Knowing what your output is going to be is important when managing your files (my newest lesson learned).

Moving images/catalogue from daughter to main catalog - Question and help requested on flow

I have been using LR since 1.0 and now on 2.5 on a PC (Vista & Windows 7)
My picture management work-flow
I pull-in photos onto laptop which has a small catalog of 2009 images and usually only 6000 in (Nefs D300/D70) (Daughter catalog)
On laptop I keyword etc and prepare photos.
Once my hard drive (250GB) gets about 2/3 full I move 10-20 folders (I store images by shooting date) to a "master" hard drive (1TB) using the freeware "Syncback".
I back up catalog at this point.
Also moving the images to the 1TB means those photos are now going into my Main catalog, and I export the catalog of images that I transfered above and import that intot he main catalog that sort of works
Now question(s) come(s)
I lose in the 2009 catalog the link to the images once they have been moved by sync back to the 1TB driveand have to manually reconnect within lightroom.
I am sure there is a better way yo do this, is there and can anyone help me -
Can I drag and drop in the library mode in the "folder LH view" the images from the local (c) drive to the 1TB drive. I haven't tried this (I'm a coward)
If I eschew the use of Sync back and then export the catalog and images from the Daughter catalog, how can I make sure when I import them into the Main catalog that the images are stored on the 1TB drive correctly (Images/yyyy-mm-dd)?
Is this handled through the image import dialog when moving the exported catalog into the Main one ?
I hope this is understandable, as I say I have been a little timid with these steps

When you import a catalog, the Import Dialog will come up. Click copy to new location and Import. Lightroom will import using the existing folder structure as is.

No aim in my ichat (a newbie questions and help)

I am relatively new to ichat as I have never needed it use it untill the girlfriend took a job on a cruise line. With that I bought my imac g5 about 3 years ago and never messed with ichat. Now that I wanted to start using it I started with the apple ichat 101 guide. I created an aim account, made sure it works (at least I think it does as I have no buddies on it yet), then started up ichat. In the first time tutorial it says a start up screen will appear to register your .mac or aim account. When I started ichat, this initial setup screen didnt pop up. It just opened the program and aim runs in the background. I then go into prefferences and accounts under the file menu and the only thing listed is bonjour. I cant seem to figure out how to change it to the aim account. I believe I am running ichat 2.1 (what ever came with the first gen imac) and downloaded the latest version (4.7) of aim yesterday. Could this be a problem? I am also using a wirless router, but my internet seems to work. I see that there are lots of posts about router settings on this board for aim accounts, but dont know if thats an issue either. Forgive my ignorance as I am also typing this on my windows computer at work and am not sure exactly which version of ichat I have installed on the computer at home. Anyhelp would be gratly appreciated as I am new to the ichat world. Recommendations on a camera would also b helpful since my computer does not have isight and am looking for a cam. what a waste of money sending an engineer to "fix a fault" which does not exist. Precisely.
In my original BE post to which Tom so helpfully responded, I began: It seems to me that DLM is an excellent concept with a highly flawed implementation, both technically and administratively. I think that sending out an engineer to fix an obviously flawed profile is the main example of an adminastrative flaw. I understand (I can't remember source, maybe Tom again) that they are sometimes relaxing the requirement for a visit before reset.
Maybe the DLM system is too keen on stability vs speed. This will keep complaints down from many people: most users won't notice speed too much as long as it is reasonable, but will be upset if their Skype calls and browsing are being interrupted too often.
However, it does lead to complaints from people who notice the drops after an incidence (as in your thread that has drawn lots of interest), or who only get 50 instead of 60. The main technical flaw is that DLM can so easily be confused by drops from loss of power, too much modem recycling, etc, and then takes so long to recover.

Site Navigation Question and Help

Hoping there is a simple solution to this problem. I'm a designer, not programmer so I'm pretty clueless in that regard.
Here's what I'm attempting to do.
I've managed to create an animation in Edge Animate and everything works fine.
I imported that animation into Muse so that it plays on the Home Page. Everything works fine there as well.
I have a Nav Bar for the 4-5 other pages (as well as the Home Page) and everything functions well there also.
What I'd like to do is have the animation play to the end when the user opens the home page (which it does and it's very short) but when they return to the home page after visiting other pages, I would like the animation not to play, but return to the last still frame of the animation.
Hope this makes sense and I'm hoping that it's a simple fix.

I believe the only way that could be done is to add some javascript to your edge animate animation that would place a cookie on the users computer and have the animation to go to last frame if cookie exsists.
Other than creating a duplicate home page with just the last frame as a graphic in place of the animation and have all your internal homepage links link to that. However, it may not be a good idea for Search Engines to have duplicate content.

Flash Questions And help

Okay, firstly I havent used flash in a while, and now, when i
come to use actions i cant get the option for suggestions of what
can actually be used. Eg im typing goto and it would give me a list
of options like gotoAndPlay and AndStop, now its not doing that so
is there anyway to turn that back on. Secondly, I'm trying to make
a wobbly head nodder. I've tried to make it as a button, with
movies in the up over and down state. the up and over state works
perfectly. However when i click down and hold, the wobbly head
should get pulled back and stay in a fixed location... but it
doesnt, it just goes back to playing the over state, but in the
loaction of where the head has been pulled to. Then my final
problem is that when its there, i want it to boing back as the
mouse button is released... and i just dont no how, any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Welcome to the forums!
One problem that you might face is that Flash can load and
render external SWFs but not (complete) HTML pages.
If the contents of the HTML page is simply an SWF, then you
can modify your code to allow Flash to load the SWF instead of
opening a new window. That is, change the XML code to reflect the
location of the SWF, not the HTML file. Then, in Flash, make use of
the loadMovieNum, loadClip, or loadMovie methods to either load the
SWF to a _level or a MovieClip.
Otherwise, you may have to rethink your set-up.
I imagine that this gallery page is mainly comprised of
images? If so, it might be better to represent the gallery page as
another XML page with the URLs of images specific to that gallery.
And then just as your 3D carousel loads in XML, you could load in
the XML for a particular gallery and then load in each image using
the loadMovie or loadClip methods.

deal with scanner's TWAIN. Does it?No. TWAIN is a Windows only standard, hence standard Java can't support it. There are third party libraries (such as Morena - http://www.gnome.sk/Twain/jtp.html) you can use to interface with TWAIN though.

I have a handful of general questions about Firefox OS as a consumer..

I couldn't find a better place to post this, so I'm trying on here.
I'm in the market for a tablet (high-end), and I'm holding off on getting an Android-powered one because of Firefox OS. However, I have some general questions and concerns regarding performance, software and hardware. Here they are.
1. Is the Firefox OS interface as responsive as a native experience on say an iPad or an Android tablet? (Is there any lag on swipes between screens, button presses, etc?) If not, will it be in the future?
2. Will I miss the Android marketplace or the Apple app store, being restricted to only HTML5 apps? Do you think this will become an irrelevant question as the HTML5 app ecosystem grows?
3. Do you think the quality of HTML5 apps will be inferior to those from existing app stores because they are free?
4. Will the Firefox browser be the only one available in Firefox OS? (i.e. will there be the option to use Chrome, Opera or any other browser if the user so wishes?)
5. Will Firefox OS include useful utility apps, such as an alarm clock, a calendar, a weather app, etc?
6. I read a lot, both on the web (news, video game reviews), as well as ebooks. Will Firefox OS on a tablet be a pleasant experience conducive to e-reading? (Will it include a good ebook reader app?)
7. Will there be a high-end Firefox OS tablet that is comparable in specs to the Nexus 10? (i.e. impressive screen resolution, powerful CPU/GPU, lots of inputs/outputs like USB, HDMI, microSD, etc) When do you think such a device might become available?

1. Depends on the phone but a avererage power android phone would likely cost the same as a high end firefox os phone.
2. HTML 5 is really the future of the web, I've heard that Firefox will let you package apps to be playable offline, but not sure if thats true.

During pay period 01.2010, an employee leaves the company and owes 5,000. The employee does not get paid because more is owed than is payable.

General question regarding "parallelism" of iPhone execution

I've got a general question and hope somebody can shed some light on this.
While I'm relatively new to iPhone development I've been in software programing for more than 15 years now and have a solid background in Java, C, C++, C# and other languages. I've created a couple of applications for the iPhone, easy and complex ones, some using UIKit, others using Open GL and Open AL. With that said I think it would be fair to say that I know pretty much what I'm talking about.
For those who tend to refer everybody back to the Apple Samples or PDF guides, please believe me, I've read them all.
Here's my "question":
I occasionally ran into a situation where I got the impression that code on the iPhone got executed in a "non sequential" or "parallel" manner even when I did not explicitly created threads. I'm not referring to code buried in a framework or so, I'm talking about code I've written. (English is not my mother tongue, so please excuse me if my explanation might be somewhat difficult to understand.)
I try to give an example. Assume a code snippet like this:
_gameEngine = [GameEngine alloc];
[_gameEngine initSomeStuff];
In my understanding the second statement (the initSomeStuff) gets executed once alloc returns and _gameEngine for sure is a valid pointer. Is that fair to say? I sometimes got the impression that the iPhone starts executing code without waiting that a method returned.
I had similar issues when I tried to show an ActivityIndicator while another method was doing a lengthy operation. Pseudocode like this:
[_activityIndicator show];
[self longLastingOperation];
[_activityIndicator hide];
In code like the one above: Can I be 100% sure, that the hide message is not sent until longLastingOperation returns? I ran into a situation where I had the impression that show and hide got called immediately without waiting until longLastingOperation returned.
Final example:
[self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(doSomething) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:YES];
[self nextStatement];
-(void)doSomething {

1.) In the above code, I understand the idea is that doSomething will be executed on the MainThread and that nextStatement will in no way be executed before doSomething has returned. Is that true?
2.) doSomething is supposed to run on the MainThread but does this hold true for longLastingOperation, too? Or could it be that longLastingOperation WITHIN doSomething gets dispatched to another thread and doSomething returns PRIOR to longLastingOperation been finished?
This might all sound pretty wired but as I said from time to time I ran into a situation where I got totally confused as to how stuff executes in – or out of – sequence. I helped myself with using NSNotificationCenters etc. but I'd like to understand what's going on in detail and crystal clear here.

It is never safe to assume that any allocation was successful, and while it's incredibly unlikely that you're running into any such situation, it's entirely possible for a formal protocol to declare that a given message send should return immediately without waiting around:

An "impression" doesn't prove much unfortunately, so I'd recommend getting friendly with the debugger to see what's really going on.

General question - deploying via drac/iLO vs. USB stick inconsistencies

This is going to be kind of a general question and see if anyone has experienced something similar and if there is a better way to go about this.
I have the need to send a Windows 2008 r2 image to a new data center via USB stick. I built my task sequence and created an ISO from it and mounted it in virtual media in an HP iLO session and built a physical server to test the task sequence. This
was just a test to see if the build was good. It was.
So I used an ISO to USB tool to put the ISO on USB stick to make it bootable media. I built the same server via the USB device. The build got 90% of the way through and during one of the last reboots, it comes up to "Preparing your computer
for first time use" and immediately reboots itself.
I have had this experience before where building via a USB stick gives me different results than deploying the same ISO via iLO/drac. Any clue why that might be? It's very frustrating and I can't pinpoint any differences.

I don't know exactly what happened, but a couple of observations based on your description:
- Are you using bootable media or stand-alone media? If bootable, non task sequence info whatsoever is but on the media. If stand-alone, why are you using stand-alone instead of bootable?
- Why not directly build the media on a USB device using the console instead of converting the ISO? There are inconsistencies with this at best because of drive letter changes that the media takes into account.

Report Builder Question - OA AR Aging - and a general question

I'm sure this is the wrong forum for this question, but I thought there might be someone here who might be using Oracle Applications and Report Builder who'd be kind enough to help me out.
We've recently implemented Oracle Applications 11.5.10 and I have to use report builder to change the Accounts Receiveable Aging (7 bucket) to a 5 bucket report. I've already made some changes to the seeded "ARXAGMW.rdf" report, but I'm not a big Oracle Reports guy. I've stumbled through making some changes in various other reports. But this one is just plain nasty! :)
I was thinking that I could simply add buckets 6 & 7 to bucket 5, then just hide or delete the 6 & 7 buckets. But I'm not sure where to even start. Any help with this would GUARANTEE a Christmas or other holiday card this year! :)
I really want to keep this simple as possible, so any help would be very....helpful. :)
Oh, my general question is: Are there any resouces/books for Oracle Reports (Report Builder)? I feel so lost trying to modify existing reports, let alone creating new ones.

I am working on the 7-bucket aging report and i want to add a new field in data model.
As the query is build dynamically, i have modified the function BUILD_CUSTOMER_SELECT to meet my requirements.
But the problem is that in the data model, the field is not present in my Grouping. and if I try to add the field in the Data Model query (Q_ Customer) section,

Camileo charging problem (solved) and a general question!

Hi all!
First of all, I was going to ask for help as to why the Camileo S10 was not charging (the orange light wasn't flashing), and I'd seen a few people with similar problems.
The solution?
Give the contacts on the battery a clean.
The insulation sticker that comes on it must leave some kind of residue on it, and it's enough to prevent charging. Now it's flashing away happily :]
So my general question was, is it possible/advisable to use the camera on the mains?
Rather than constantly draining and charging the battery during long shoots, I'd prefer to just leave it plugged in!

I think the battery handling is always the same no matter what product it is
From time to time the battery should be recalibrated.
This means that the battery should be discharged fully and after then you should charge it again until the battery would reach 100%
I do this with all my batteries; mobile phone battery, digi cam battery and notebook battery.
