General questions to make performance better after a while in windows 8.1!

hi,
to make the performnance better after a while
I know  that I have,to clean up hard disk first, but when I run harddisk clean up  wizard I see a lot of options that you can choose to  clean the harddisk , but I  know also  that is not wise to choose  all of this
options here  , my question  is which options in this wizard is wize  to vink and clean   when I want to make some space on harddisk?
2--I read also if I want to speed up performance I have to delete virtual memory then I have to run disk defragmentation and then I have to make a  new virtual memory which wil be at least 1 and halve time bigger than the real memory and it is
better if I make the virtual memory on a partition which has not  OS.   do you agree whith this advise?
3- I have also heard from MVP"rs that third party register cleaners wil make more harm than speed the performance!
4- how I know which services I have to enable and disable?
5-if I upgrade the memory from 4 GB to six GB for example wil that effect the performance?
6-is there also in internet options  any things to clean to speed the performance?
very short answers wil be enough.
thanks

Hi,
1,Detailed description of using disk cleanup in the following link, I usually just choose all, then OK, it will not cause any damages.
Delete files using Disk Cleanup

2,For virtual memory, maybe this blog can help you
Learn Best Practices for Optimizing the Virtual Memory Configuration
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff382717.aspx
3, Many third party software can provide some help in some cases but not all, so be careful to use it.
4,For services, it depends on what you need, but some services running in the background are very important, when you want to disable some services, I suggest you first refer to some useful articles.
5, Actually I think it all depends what you want to do with your computer. if you use graphic programs like 3D Max or play games with high resolution graphic ,then you need bigger rams. if it is just for normal
use like surfing the internet, I think a smaller ram is also fine,

  • Office 2003 Can't Save Files (after a while) under Windows XP ! [FAT32]

I've made a 30G Fat32 partition using Boot Camp and put XP2 on it, runs flawlessly. However, getting tired with the rosetta office under OS X, I switched to Windows last night for some heavy Word jobs (openning 4-5 20mb documents at same time).
The speed is much faster than Mac Office, however, something really annoys me: a while after I've openned a file, office actually delete the originally file and failed to save a new one !!! For example, i openned Project_1.doc, do some editing, leave it for a while, and then press save. Error promts out "failed to save the file, permission error blah blah blah" and then the Current Document name (appers on the top left corner of the window) change to ~WXXXX.tmp. The only way i can get around is to click save as, manually type a new file name and then save it. and the original Project_1.doc disapear!!
I almost paid heavily for this, after 4 hours work i was supposed to press the last Save. same error came out as expected, however some other windows pop up and shut the entire programme off (oh dear microsoft). As the original file has been magically removed, i get nothing... Thanks to long-time windows experience (fault torrent) I manage to recover my work from pieces of scratches (many pieces of ~WXXX.tmp) file, but this is wicked.
Anyone has any ideas whys that? i've use both mac os x start disc and MS chkdsk to test the harddrive, no problem.
    .... hmmm....

Noticed after testing that it was only shares on the xsan that were affected. If I created a share on the internal drive on the server, worked fine. That led me to this.
    http://stanford.edu/group/macosxsig/blog/2009/12/extendedattributes_office200.html
we run into the same issue, XSan 2.2 with xattr, reshared via SMB&AFP. The strangest thing was that the error occur only when you try to copy to NTFS-formatted disks, and not FAT. What did the trick for us was to comment this line:
    ; vfs objects = darwinacl,darwin_streams
in /etc/smb.conf and restarting the server. Banged my head on the wall for two weeks over this!

  • I have a handful of general questions about Firefox OS as a consumer..

I couldn't find a better place to post this, so I'm trying on here.
I'm in the market for a tablet (high-end), and I'm holding off on getting an Android-powered one because of Firefox OS. However, I have some general questions and concerns regarding performance, software and hardware. Here they are.
    1. Is the Firefox OS interface as responsive as a native experience on say an iPad or an Android tablet? (Is there any lag on swipes between screens, button presses, etc?) If not, will it be in the future?
    2. Will I miss the Android marketplace or the Apple app store, being restricted to only HTML5 apps? Do you think this will become an irrelevant question as the HTML5 app ecosystem grows?
    3. Do you think the quality of HTML5 apps will be inferior to those from existing app stores because they are free?
    4. Will the Firefox browser be the only one available in Firefox OS? (i.e. will there be the option to use Chrome, Opera or any other browser if the user so wishes?)
    5. Will Firefox OS include useful utility apps, such as an alarm clock, a calendar, a weather app, etc?
    6. I read a lot, both on the web (news, video game reviews), as well as ebooks. Will Firefox OS on a tablet be a pleasant experience conducive to e-reading? (Will it include a good ebook reader app?)
    7. Will there be a high-end Firefox OS tablet that is comparable in specs to the Nexus 10? (i.e. impressive screen resolution, powerful CPU/GPU, lots of inputs/outputs like USB, HDMI, microSD, etc) When do you think such a device might become available?
    8. Would it be possible to flash Firefox OS onto say a Nexus 10 or other tablet or phone if one wanted to use it as their OS instead?
    Thanks!

    1. Depends on the phone but a avererage power android phone would likely cost the same as a high end firefox os phone.
    2. HTML 5 is really the future of the web, I've heard that Firefox will let you package apps to be playable offline, but not sure if thats true.
    3. I '''think''' Firefox OS may have paid apps that will be restricted to users who buy them.
    4. I think Mozilla will be nice enough to let Google and Opera make browsers. Google let Mozilla do that with FF for android.
    5. See the simulator https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/firefox-os-simulator/
    6. too early to say
    7. too early to say, but Foxconn (helps apple) makes some apple products, so yes in the future is see a high end Firefox OS tablet 2-3 years down the road.
    8. not sure
NOTE: Please note that we are only contributors, we dont develop firefox os.
You can ask more on the IRC channel as there are likely devs there.

  • Messaging 6.x general questions

    hi,
    just some general questions -
    (a) is there a netbackup agent for doing messaging backups and message level restores (e.g. like the one for exchange). I know solstice backup has a backup agent somewhere but not sure about netbackup. any experiences with this?
    (b) is it possible for messaging/calendar to authenticate users off a different directory? i.e. just use the uid/password info from another directory i.e. novell edir. it seems like directories and ldap were supposed to make all this simple, but getting a product like messaging that is "supported" against another directory isn't in reality.
Also organisations don't seem to like having to only use messaging against sun directory as a selling point sometimes when they already have a directory. Any thoughts/experiences?
    thanks

A: imsbackup may be used with many backup packages. Granularity down to the individual user. Imsbackup/imsrestore is the recommended backup/restore technique.
B: No. Messaging Server was not designed to store part of the authenticatio data in one ldap and the rest in another. You could use Meta Directory to synchronize a portion of your other ldap to the one Messaging uses.
Some customers have successfully deployed against other Directory server, BUT . . .
    1. The installer uses non-standard, propriatary stuff, and will fail against non-sun directory servers.
    2. If there is a problem after ou successfully get install done, and you call tech support, the burdon is on you to prove that the problem is within how Messaging Server works, and is not with the non-sun directory server. So far, we haven't found any such to fix, though. I think there may be one or two customers using non sun DS.
In most cases, Meta is able to sync their ldap system with ours, and that works much better. Directory Server is the most popular LDAP server around, far as I know.

  • Sorry - very general question

I have been playing with flash for a while on a Mac but I
have been dissatisfied. It is a pre-intel version and 1) it is very
slow, 2) it does not support Soundforge, which I hear is quite
popular and easy to use. Anyway, I'd like to get a PC but I'm not
sure whether I need a standard computer or a suped up version with
lots of memory, graphics capability, etc. Basically the sites I've
seen have divided computers into those suitable for standard office
tasks and net surfing and those suited for "hard core gaming." I am
basically planning to use the computer just for flash animation and
sound clips. Is a standard PC (that exceeds Flash's minimum
requirements) going to do it for me? Sorry for the general
    question. Thanks.

First of all, no need for the apology, there are no stupid
    (or general) questions.
Second of all: sorry to all Mac fans, but PCs are the way to
go. After all, you get to choose what company makes your computer.
So you can get either the high-end model from HP or Gateway, or get
something a little more affordable from eMachines or Compaq. With
the Mac, you can only choose, well, a Mac.
While computer shopping, look for the following features:
(This is the BARE minimum of what your expectations should
    be)
    Windows XP Home Edition
    AMD Athlon+ 2.1 GHz Processor
    800x600x16-bit or better screen
32 MB Video RAM (For the occasional game here and there)
    512+ MB System RAM
    Sound Card, Speakers
If you get a computer with Windows Vista (which you probably
will), turn off the Vista visual styles, use Windows Standard.
(Flash has a BIG problem concerning Windows Vista visual styles,
which is the problem I'm having now...see first page of "Flash
General Discussions" for my post, please help! Thank you.)

  • Performance degradation after setting filesystemio_option=setall from none.

    Hi All,
We have facing performance degradation after setting filesystemio_option=setall from none on my two servers as mentioned below.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 7) 2.6.9 55.ELhugemem (32-bit)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga) 2.6.18 92.1.10.el5 (64-bit)
We are seeing lots of Disk I/O happening. We expected "*filesystemio_option=setall* " will improve performance but it is degrading. We getting slowness complains.
Please let me know do we need to set somethign else along with this ...like any otimizer parameter( e.g. optimizer_index_cost_adj, optimizer_index_caching).
    Please help.

    Hi Suraj,
    <speculation>
You switched filesystemio_options to setall from none, so, the most likely reason for performance degradation after switching to setall is the implementation of directio. Direct I/O will skip the filesystem buffer cache, and and allow Oracle to read directly from disk to the database buffer cache. However, on a system where direct I/O is not implemented, which is what you had until you recently messed with that parameter, it's likely that you had an undersized database buffer cache, but that was ok, because many (most) of the physical I/Os your database was doing, were actually being serviced by the O/S filesystem buffer cache. But, you introduced direct I/O, and wiped out the ability of the O/S to service any physical I/Os from filesystem buffer cache. This means that every cache miss on the database buffer cache, turns into a real, physical, spin-the-disk, move-the-drive-head, physical I/O. And, you are suffering the performance consequences.
    </speculation>
Ok, end of speculation. Now, assuming that what I've outlined above is actually going on, what to do? Why is direct I/O lower performing than buffered, non-direct I/O? Shouldn't it's performance be superior?
Well, when you have an established system that's using buffered I/O, and you switch to direct I/O, you almost always will have to increase the size of the database buffer cache. The problem is that you took a huge chunk of memory away from the the O/S, that it was using to buffer your I/Os and avoid physical I/O. So, now, you need to make up for it, by increasing the size of the database buffer cache. You can do this, without buying more memory for the box, because the O/S is no longer going to need to use so much memory for filesystem buffers.
So, what to do? Is it worth switching? Well, on balance, it makes sense to use direct I/O, and give Oracle a larger database buffer cache, for the simple fact that (particularly on a server that's dedicated to being an Oracle database server), Oracle has far more sophisticated caching algorithms, and a better understanding of the various types of data being cached, and so should be able to make more efficient use of the memory, than the (relatively) brain dead caching algorithms of the kernel and filesystem mechanisms.
But, once again, it all comes down to this:
What problem are you trying to solve? Did you have any I/O related issues? Do you have any compelling reason to implement direct I/O? Rule #1 is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Did you just violate rule #1? :-)
Finally, since you're on Linux, you can use the 'free' command to see how much memory is on the box, how much is free, and how much is dedicated to filesystem cache buffers. This response is already pretty long, so, I'm not going to get into details, however, if you're not familiar with the command, the results could be misleading. Read the man page, and try to be clear about understanding it before you make any assumptions about the output.
    Hope that helps,
    -Mark

  • More General Questions.

    Hi Guys,
    1. Is it better to "close" a production order or "technically complete" it after the production is complete? Will it make a difference?
    2. What dates are more important for tracking in a production order? Basic Dates or Actual Dates?
    3. I am planning on implementing cost center accounting to capture costs from the machine and labor times given in the routing. Is there any easier method?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Will give points.

    Dear Rao,
    1. Is it better to "close" a production order or "technically complete" it after the production is complete? Will it make a difference?
It is not the question of which is better, they serve different purposes.
TECO - The production order will not be relevant for MRP. Settlement can be done.
Confimations and GR/GI of production order still possible.
CLSD - The production order will not be relevant for MRP. If goods movements have taken place and / or activity booking done, then "closing" is <b>not possible</b> without settlement done. Confimations and GR/GI of production order <b>not possible</b>..
    2. What dates are more important for tracking in a production order? Basic Dates or Actual Dates?
Both of the dates are important and have their roles to play.
Basic dates are important for scheduling.
Actual dates are important for leadtime scheduling and consequently capacity planning.
    3. I am planning on implementing cost center accounting to capture costs from the machine and labor times given in the routing. Is there any easier method?
Your plan is nice and cool.
Hope this will help you, please confirm.

  • Does FCP perform better than adobe premiere elements on a MacBook Pro?

does FCP perform better than adobe premiere elements on a MacBook Pro?
    Background:
    * just trying to decide what to go for re video editing app with more features than iMovie
    * last time I'd tried Adobe Premiere Elements on my MacBook (but it was before I had an SSD) the performance was not good - it was sluggish to the point I really didn't want to use it
    * so this question is just about whether in general FCP X performs better on a Mac (you'd think it would no, as it's made/optimized for a Mac)
    My MacBook:
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Elements is essentially an amateur app and Premiere a professional one similar to the discontinued Final Cut Pro 7.
FCP X is a radical new approach to editing which like Marmite, you either love or hate.
It is probably between the 2 in capabitlity but much closer to Premiere.
Some might say it was better than Premiere, whilst other long standing broadcast editors would disagree.
It all depends on your standpoint and I am trying to give an unbiased appraisal.
Some of the techniques it uses are way ahead of all other apps and this is what worries people who have an established way of working, though as I mentioned in another post, there are a few omissions which have upset those editors.
Some might say (echoes of Jeremy Clarkson) that FCP X is the most advanced editing app on the planet albeit with a few teething troubles.

  • General questions about network setup

    Hi everybody,
I am in the process of migrating the network of our small nonprofit-organization from windows to linux. I searched for a while and had a look at several distros but it seems that arch is what we need ;-) Some months ago I migrated my own laptop and desktop at home to arch and learned a lot about KISS since then. But now I need some hints that point me in the right direction. The net consists of a router (running fli4l for firewalling, ntp, dhcp and dns-server), a main Server (SuSE 9.1 samba domain controller by now) and a backup server (arch). There are some workstations running Win2000 or XP and two arch systems with a KDE-desktop.
How can I manage single sign on for all these machines? NIS seems to be insecure, LDAP very complicated. Any other options? Maybe someone with a working configuration as an example? The setup should take care about the possibilty of one server going down and the backup server then taking all services over.
On each windows machine I needed antivirus and desktop firewall software. Any need for this on linux machines? I am a bit concerned about degrading performance since all workstations are 1GHhz Durons which is not so much these days...
By now the main task for all workstations is doing some text processing and spreadsheet work. The servers do the file sharing using samba. In the future I want to set up an internal email server, maybe some kind of networked PIM-Software for all users. What would you use for this purposes?
Are there any other things I have to keep in mind while setting up a small network like this?
    Thanks for your help.
    Harvey
BTW, English is not my native language so don't shoot me if I put something wrong ;-)

TB2 wrote:If the main tasks are text processing and spreadsheet work, then why are there any Windows machines?
Because this environment has grown over years and is now moving towards Linux. And there is some special software that only exists as windows software (medical databases) which I was not able to run in Wine. Virtualbox is a good hint, though I am using vmware in the moment for my own boxes. So vmware-player would do as well, I guess.
Then you will also be able to drop samba...
Mmmh, I'm a bit concerned about that. I suppose you suggest using NFS/NIS? Isn't that believed to be insecure?
and there's loads of IPM programs for Linux
Well, not so much if you are looking for a networked one which archlinux supports. Evolution looks nice though I'd personally prefer Kolab, but for groupware features it needs a server which I wasn't able to find in the repositories. And making packages is not one of my skills...
switch from KDE to a more ressource-friendly DE, like Xfce, Window Maker or Fluxbox.
Tried XFCE, which looks nice, but I need a login manager for my users. Had a look at slim, but was not able to configure it right. The wiki seems to be outdated here. It runs on boot, but never lets me login. I come back to the login screen in an infinite loop. Still looking for a solution here.
In general I think it's better if all machines run the same setup. Mixing Win2000, XP and Linux machines can be done, but I think it's not recommended
This is what I am thinking too. And I want to migrate, but in the moment there are some caveats I have to deal with.

  • General question - deploying via drac/iLO vs. USB stick inconsistencies

This is going to be kind of a general question and see if anyone has experienced something similar and if there is a better way to go about this.
I have the need to send a Windows 2008 r2 image to a new data center via USB stick.  I built my task sequence and created an ISO from it and mounted it in virtual media in an HP iLO session and built a physical server to test the task sequence.  This
was just a test to see if the build was good.  It was.
So I used an ISO to USB tool to put the ISO on USB stick to make it bootable media.  I built the same server via the USB device.  The build got 90% of the way through and during one of the last reboots, it comes up to "Preparing your computer
for first time use" and immediately reboots itself.
I have had this experience before where building via a USB stick gives me different results than deploying the same ISO via iLO/drac.  Any clue why that might be?  It's very frustrating and I can't pinpoint any differences.

I don't know exactly what happened, but a couple of observations based on your description:
    - Are you using bootable media or stand-alone media? If bootable, non task sequence info whatsoever is but on the media. If stand-alone, why are you using stand-alone instead of bootable?
    - Why not directly build the media on a USB device using the console instead of converting the ISO? There are inconsistencies with this at best because of drive letter changes that the media takes into account.

  • SAP CM25 which profile to use and why and some general questions

    Hi there,
I have a few general questions, if you may share your thoughts on this.
In a manufacturing environment, is CM25 more used to finite schedule the work centers or labor or both ?
Is it a good idea to even finite schedule the planned orders or just production orders ? We want to create production orders 1 week ahead of the production schedule and planned orders gets created 3-4 weeks earlier than production order gets created.
The graphical tool seems to be slow sometimes when dispatching and doing some actions on the screen, has any one have any say on this. Should we need to have better computers on the floor for this to work ?
I have been trying my solutions using CM25 and not CM21 or CM27 using the profile SAPSFCG005, is there any other profile that I need to consider and other transactions to consider like CM21 or CM27 for certain purposes?
    Thank you

    Hello
In a manufacturing environment, is CM25 more used to finite schedule the work centers or labor or both ?
It can be used for both depend upon bottle neck resource whether machine or labour.
Is it a good idea to even finite schedule the planned orders or just production orders ? We want to create production orders 1 week ahead of the production schedule and planned orders gets created 3-4 weeks earlier than production order gets created.
Better it should be finite planning for planned order also you can use MRP with lead time scheduling.
The graphical tool seems to be slow sometimes when dispatching and doing some actions on the screen, has any one have any say on this. Should we need to have better computers on the floor for this to work ?
It depends upon the data load and selection,
Restrict the number of objects to be displayed, for example, select only a small number of work-centers/orders.
Customize the time profile (transaction OPD2) such that the database read period, the planning period and the evaluation period are as small as possible. As a result, fewer objects are read and displayed.
Refer KBA  2038780 - Tips for performance improvement on Capacity Leveling
If you want to process more orders, check whether a batch planning (planning in the background on transaction CM40) is possible.
I have been trying my solutions using CM25 and not CM21 or CM27 using the profile SAPSFCG005, is there any other profile that I need to consider and other transactions to consider like CM21 or CM27 for certain purposes?
It depends upon your requirements which transaction to use and which profile. You can customize your own profile also.

  • Performance Hit After Oracle Database Upgrade to 10.2.0.4

We have a couple dozen workbooks that took this performance hit after the upgrade of the database/migration to a new server. Worksheets that executed in the ten second range are now running for hours or simply not finishing. We took the new server factor out of the equation by rolling back the database to 10.2.0.3 where a test EUL resides and the problem was resolved. Has anyone seen this issue? Does anyone have an suggestions? An early reply would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jerre

    Rod,
Thanks for the quick reply. We are looking at the different plans and modifying the optimizer settings, switching back and forth, as we speak. We are now starting with the hints. Currently our Server 'optimizer_mode' parameter is ALL_ROWS. We are planning to change the to 'Choose' and see what happens. The workbooks that are impacted are on our oldest business areas of Finance and HR. The former setup was borrowed from another school for a quick, low cost start up. The latter was thrown together by novices. Our true datamarts developed by knowledgeable personnel with star schemas are not impacted. Of course we are planning on redoing the older business areas but time, personnel and money matters slow things down. It is these workbooks on the older business areas that are greatly affected by the migrations and upgrade. We eventually get things to settle down but past actions do not always have the same resolution with newer and better servers and upgrades.
    Thanks,
    Jerre

  • Where to direct a general questions about foreign films subtitles?

I recently purchased a foreign film "Break Ke Badd" from the iTunes store. Although, it didn't specify that it had English subtitles, I assumed it did. After the full download, I tried to watch it and there weren't any English subs. I contacted iTunes and they more than happy to refund the money back to my account. Now after a few weeks, the iTunes store DOES list Eng subs for this film. I don't want to purchase it again and have to contact iTunes for another refund...Therefore my question is, is there a general question contact one could use to find an answer to my question. Basically, to verify that this movie, indeed has English subs before I re-purchase.
    Any info is appreciated!

Yes I know as the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/ Questions] section is more for desktop Firefox support and the place I linked to is for "Firefox OS" support in English where some who are involved with it do post in it occasionally.
I would have moved that [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/962783 thread] to the "Firefox OS" English section, however I cannot as the [https://support.mozilla.org//questions/ Questions] and [https://support.mozilla.org/forums Contributor Forums] are not the same.

  • Camileo charging problem (solved) and a general question!

    Hi all!
First of all, I was going to ask for help as to why the Camileo S10 was not charging (the orange light wasn't flashing), and I'd seen a few people with similar problems.
    The solution?
Give the contacts on the battery a clean.
The insulation sticker that comes on it must leave some kind of residue on it, and it's enough to prevent charging. Now it's flashing away happily :]
So my general question was, is it possible/advisable to use the camera on the mains?
Rather than constantly draining and charging the battery during long shoots, I'd prefer to just leave it plugged in!
    Thanks very much in advance!
    Paul

    Hi
I think the battery handling is always the same no matter what product it is
From time to time the battery should be recalibrated.
This means that the battery should be discharged fully and after then you should charge it again until the battery would reach 100%
I do this with all my batteries; mobile phone battery, digi cam battery and notebook battery.
