From what I can understand, your phone is unstable, and your memory card appears to be corrupt.
First, backup the contents of your phone memory using the latest PC Suite. Next, backup the music, videos, pictures, etc. on the memory card to your PC.
Does your phone work fine without the memory card? If it does, then connect the phone in Mass Storage mode to your PC, and format it. Now see if the phone works fine with the memory card inserted. Once verified, you can copy your music and other files to the card and continue using the phone.
If you still face issues, then proceed with the next step
Check for firmware updates, here. If there is a new version, install it using Nokia Software Updater. Make sure you have a stable internet connection and a full battery before you begin the update process. And, most importantly, follow the on-screen prompts correctly.
Else, try the following:
1. Soft reset: I assume you've made a backup of your phone memory contents. Type *#7370# on the stand-by screen. Enter the security code when prompted (default is 12345). This would wipe your phone memory clean.
2. Hard reset: This is to be resorted to only if your phone has become extremely unstable. Turn off your phone, press and hold down the 3, * and Call (green) buttons, and turn on your phone without releasing them. Let go off these three keys only when you see the Nokia logo or other signs of life on your phone.
Let us know how it goes... Good luck

  • General System error on N96

I tried to watch mp4 videos on my new N96
Theses videos were playing on my old N95
But on the N96 I just got a message : GENERAL SYSTEM ERROR
    And the video centre closes
    I have the latest firmware
    Some help please

What application are you using to play the video?
    Video Center, File Manager, Photos?
    Where is the video stored?
Mass memory, SD card, phone memory,
If SD Card, were you using the SD card with N95 before?, if this is the case you need to either format the card or delete the N95 directories (private, data, sys, etc) as these may not be compatible with N96.
Lastly can you post the video properties?, does this happen with ALL videos or just 1 particular video?

  • General: System Error on Nokia N80 music player

    Hi all
I've just copied a bunch of WMA files from my PC to the memory card of my Nokia N80 and I know see "General: System Error" whenever I start the music player - and no tracks appear either. The only other details I can think of are that all files are in Artist then Album folders (i.e. in the Sounds->Digital folder, I have folder "Beatles", then under this folder "The White Album"). Would this matter? I've removed any .ini, .jpg or other files that may have been copied across and I'm sure none of the files are particularly big.. Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Ben

Cheers for the reply but I have managed to get it to play a WMA file - if I load this in to the phone memory.
From further investigation, I've found that if I remove a hidden file from the memory card under found in the system directory of the card, then this allows the phone to re-scan the card for files. It seems that once the Music Player has done a search of the card it stops searching ever again (i.e. it believes it has scanned the card, therefore no point doing again). But what if you add new MP3s or WMAs for that matter? I don't want to carry out this hack each time.
Any ideas how to make the Music Player re-scan the memory card each time?
    Thanks again.
    Ben

  • GENERAL SYSTEM ERROR ON REALPLAYER

WHEN I TRY TO STREAM AN LINK I GET GENERAL SYSTEM ERROR ON REALPLAYER. PLEASE HELP ME URGENTLY HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

    hi mate,
have you checked via Nokia Suite on PC if you have the latest firmware update installed on your device? if you do, try re-installing your current firmware thru Nokia Suite. if that doesn't work, then try performing a three-finger hard reset, but perform a backup of all personal data first to PC and/or online storage first.
Failing that, you will need to take your phone to your local Nokia Care for inspection: http://nokia.com/support

  • N96 general system error

I have an n96-1 on software version 10.065 custom version 10.065.249.1 all was working fine, I put music on the internal memory card, that worked fine. then I brought a memory card and put it in, Now when i try to play music i get a general system error message, take the card out reset the phone it all plays fine, Any idea?

For me the same error message showed. But I uninstalled the phone remote control thing (do not remember its name). I mean the program wich lets you take control over your phone from the internet. That caused trouble but music started playing well immediately after I just removed that silly program from my phone's mass storage memory!

Even I got the same problem like that person above with the name 'erorr'. I installed many applications lately but can't find out which one is doing this. Can that be a virus too? If yes, then how to get rid of that. In my phone's E drive( Mass Memory) there is a folder 'AUTORUN.INF'. Is that a virus? Whenever I try to remove it, the operation fails.  And I did what Mr. Farby said but What do you mean by 'You may have to do trial'? And How can I do that?
It means, if you have installed more than one applications recently and do not know which is the problamatic one..you have to first un-install one and check if its solved.. if not the next and check and so on till the random nos. problem goes.. Once done you may re-install the other applications (which were not causing it ) back...

  • 5800XM Music player issue : General System Error

    Hi everyone,
I have a Nokia 5800XM since 1 year and I have an issue since a few weeks...
I Updated my phone to the 40.0.005 firmware version
When I play a music with the music player, at the end of the song, there is a General System error and I can't use the payer anymore. But the rest of the phone system is operational, I can do what I want (except playing music). If I reboot the phone, I can play 1 song and the same error appears...
I've tried a soft reset, a hard reset and a firmware reinstallation... The problem remains the same.
I'm a little bit lost, I don't know what to do
    Can somebody help me ???
    Thanks

Yes the problem seems to be the memory card. Before we get to formatting, lets see if its an error in a file. Simply plug in your memory card into your PC via card reader, or lacking that plug in the phone and memory card via mass storage mode. Go to My Computer>Right Click the Memory Card>Properties>Tools>Disc Check. Check it for errors, remember to set auto-fix. Then try the card again on your phone. If it failed to fix, connect the card again to PC via mass storage and format it. Then disconnect and pop into your phone. Go to File Manager>Memory Card>Options>Memory Card Options>Format (Actually you can skip the format on PC, but I just do that to ensure that the thing is wiped clean before I format it using the phone to install phone software).
That should clean up the card. Also, my advise is that when your card is properly working keep regular backups of it. And I do not mean Ovi Suite or PC Suite. Use a third party backup solution (I use the inbuilt one in BitDefender Total Security) to completely back up your card. If you restore from those backups, all apps are restored.

  • General System Error if I want to listening music

    Hi together!!
I have the error that if I want to play some music on my N95 8gb that he starts the first sekond of the song and then says "General System Error" and stops. Thats with all my songs?! I don't know why!!???
    Somone had the same problem?
    Greets,

I think I have, unfortunately I think what I did was format the Mass memory and start over.
I don't know if you want to take such drastic measures.
Or you can also Delete the Private folder in the mass memory.

  • N8 "General System Error" on video playback

    Hi,
When I try to play xivid avis's on my new(just got it today so u can imagine the dissapointment) n8..a "general systems error" pops up. The video shows up in the videos section indicating that it is supported. I have tried numerous xivids and the surprising part is that a handful work and others dont!!.I have tried reinstalling the firmware as well as the *#7370# reset..nothing at all seems to work ..I have heard that videos above 2gb are notc ompatible with n8 but all the ones Im trying to play are well below it..max 1gb. pleaseeee helpppp!!!! Xivid divx support was one of the major reasons i opted for this phone and it just has been such a pain..I have tried numerousss videos not one not two..:

Well.umm pausing and rewinding is something which after a while becomes a pain particularly if the videos runnin at the speed of light( the mouse pointer is hard to spot with it darting around despite maginfication at times) and adding a minute more to the total length at the expense of making it a bit more understandable wouldnt hurt im sure nonetheless effort is appreciable..these are just suggestions and mean no offense.
The videos I encoded were done with super and medicoder etc. .264.1000 bitrate res 640 * 360 .audio encoder lame mp3.128 bit...tried ffmpeg but media coder crashes with it and super still has sync issues..

  • Nokia n8-00 General system error appears? Email al...

Hey guys, last night my nokia n8 keeps getting a randomly appearing message "general system error" and only comes up with i think it was either back, continue or close. The strange thing is nothing happens, then after maybe half an hour it appears again, then a few minutes again after that and happened during random intervals.
Im now afraid of turning off my phone just because it might prevent it from turning on properly and i dont want to lose all my data, (my opera bookmarks, my apps, music, etc) What also happens is that my email wont sync properly anymore. Ive had to re add my account just to get it to resync emails again, works for a day then just stops.
After the general system error it doesnt even show emails anymore, not even ones previously received

    MajorFoley,
    Welcome to Nokia Discussions!
Can you please provide the following information, so I can provide the proper steps to take next:
Look for the firmware version by going to Standby Screen> Call button> enter this code: *#0000# and the software information should appear. The earlier version should start with 11, newer versions are codenamed Symbian Anna, Symbian Belle, and Symbian Refresh.
Have you tried to backup the contents inside the phone? If not, you can do that by getting the latest Nokia Suite at http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_Suite_webinstaller_ALL.exe using a Windows loaded computer.
    Good luck

  • Nokia N63 General: System Error

I have been using my Nokia N63 since November without any problems and now for the past month whenever I update my Memory Card it tells me I have a general: system error and I cant read anything on the card. Before I had a 512 and now I have a 1Gig. The only thing I have on there is music. Anyone Else getting this problem or know how to fix it without wiping the phone?

You have to hard format your mobile. For that, backup your mobile's contacts, messages, notes, calender and bookmarks via Nokia PC Suite backup utility. Don't backup anything else like settings or user files etc. Now backup your images, videos and music files using Windows Explorer. Now format your memory card and switch off your mobile. Now press and hold this 3 key "green call key, * and 3" together and switch on your mobile. Press and hold down that 3 button till country insertion dialogue appear. Now restore all your backup using PC Suite and explorer. This will solve your problem. Now install applications you like. Good luck...

  • Music player: general system error & unable to pla...

been surfing the net for a few hours now and i can only find rather useless 'reformat memory card' and 'reformat phone' answers.
ive been messing about with the mp3 tags on my memory card because the music player had a lot of unknown songs in it.
after refreshing the library it still had some playlists and songs in it that i already deleted via the mass storage connection.
    sooo..
what i did was delete the following files:
    e:\private\101FFC31\mpxv1.mpd
    e:\private\101FFC31\pcv5.mpd
    e:\private\101ffca9\harvesterdb.dat
after starting up the music player it went on building a new library and i got the 'looking for new songs and podcasts' msg.
after 3 hours i checked my phone and it still had that message on it.
there are only 4 GB of mp3s on it so i thought something was wrong and i canceled the process and manually refreshed the library.
it did find all the songs but now it doesn't want to play any of them.
    * the memory card is ok. i checked it in another pc and all the mp3s play normally.
    * the memorycard works in the phone because sygic mcguider is still working normally as well.
    * when i remove the memcard and play a mp3 from the phone memory i get the same error.
    * but when i select a mp3 with the file manager then it starts up the music player and... plays the mp3!
    * when i exit the file manager i get the general error message again.
N82 with latest firmware and 16 GB sandisk memory card.
    ...help
    N8-00

If you've deleted those files. By the way, you need to delete those files in each one of the drives of the phone, not just the E drive.
Basically in each memory card and the mass memory similar files will be present, you need to wipe them all.
If you still can't get it working, then the only other option would be a reset. But you WILL lose data, so do it at you own peril.
    Here are some instructions.
