Generating uncompressed AVI - will Compressor 4 work?

Before I purchase Compressor 4, will it allow me to export to (after creating and sharing from Motion 5) to an uncompressed AVI?  I have previously shared to and exported from FCP 7, but since I switched to Mountain Lion 10.8 the "no compression" option for AVI export is no longer listed. I am required to produce uncompressed avi for in-arena ribbon motion graphics. I have only Apple hardware and software.
Thanks.

  • Will compressor work with imovie and vesa versa?

I am needing to compress a large file, but I only have imovie to work with for editing because final cut pro is so expensive.  Will compressor 4 play nice with imovie and will imovie work with compressor 4?  Thank you

That's correct. I don;t believe you need a compression program to do what you want. I had to look up the export options for the new iMovie because my versions are older. There is a File choice in the Share menu which gives you a custom settings option. From that a you can adjust the bitrate to your requirements for the Web. For example, a preset that I use often is 720p # 8 bits per second.
    Good luck.

PS: BTW, I was impressed by what I saw of the new iMovie; for example I didn't realize that it supports Pro Res.

  • My .avi movies work fine in v7.5, will they work in v7.5.5?

    Help please.
My Samsung Pro 815 camera takes videos in .avi format.
These videos work fine in QuickTime version 7.5 albeit the image is small.
I have read many topics here with people complaining that .avi files do not work for them.
When I update to version 7.5.5, which it seems I must do prior to updating iTunes, will my .avi files still work?
If not, is it possible to keep 2 versions of QuickTime? How can I update to make this work?
    Thanks for your help,
    Mrs H

    Thanks David M.-
    Try this:
Install the Perian component for Quicktime. Perian can play most aiv's. http://perian.org/ And it's free!
If QT will work without this, I'd rather not bother with a component I don't need.
And while your at it, so you can play Microsofts video's, WMV. Install the component Flip4Mac. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx And that's free too!
I've not yet (to my knowledge) had any reason to play Microsoft's videos, but I'll keep this in mind if the need occurs.
    Thanks again,
    Mrs H

2nd generation ipod touch is pretty much no good anymore?  It is not able to upgrade to iOS5.1 and so will not work with many Apps in the iTunes store?  Is there a way to find out if the App will work before you download?

Look to the app developer to provide that information when browsing the iTunes Store.
The iPod Touch still works, so what's your problem with it? It still works with older apps, it still does what it's intended to do.
If you aren't happy then sell it and buy a new one.

  • Compressor will not work after instal

    I recently purchased a new 24" iMac.
I then installed Final Cut Pro. The other programs seem to be running OK but Compressor says verify that Compressor was installed properly or restart the computer when I try to use it.
The only thing I can think of was that I had Final Cut installed on another computer on my network when I installed it on my new one. The new computer with FC worked fine as long as the other computer was shut down. Accept Compressor.
So what I to try to fix it was delete the FC programs from the old computer and did a reinstall of FC on the new one. Still I get the same thing. I can open Compressor and load in a project but when I hit submit it tell me to verify that Compressor was installed correctly or to restart the computer, which I have restarted a couple of times with the same out come.
I did not run any deinstall program on the other computer so there may be a file or two left on the in preferences or something for FC. Not sure how to completely deinstall it getting all the old application files out. Not sure that is even the problem.
Anyone know what to do to make Compressor work on my new iMac?

Well you'll need to see if that remote app has an update or if it is compatible with IOS 7.
since you didn't state which remote app your using.

  • How to Export UYVY 4:2:2 8-bit Uncompressed AVI?

I've been doing a lot of testing in Premiere Pro CS5 (on Windows) but cannot figure out how to export video to a generic 4:2:2 8-bit uncompressed AVI file. Here's some background - I've captured some video to an uncompressed Matrox AVI file (via an MXO2 I/O Device). Now I've done some simple cutting and need to get the video off Premiere's timeline (and into another yet-to-be-determined multimedia application). I don't want to lose any quality - hence my requirement for 4:2:2 uncompressed AVI. Also, the file needs to be a standard/generic AVI that doesn't require any special CODECs installed.
In Premiere's File > Export > Media window, there seems to be 2 ways of getting uncompressed 4:2:2 AVIs:
    Option 1:
    Format: Uncompressed Microsoft AVI
    Video Codec: UYVY
    Quality: 100
    Width: 720
    Height: 576
    Frame Rate: 25
    Field Type: Upper First
    Aspect: PAL (1.0940)
    Audio Codec: Uncompressed
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample Type: 16 bit
    Option 2:
    Format: Microsoft AVI
Video Codec: Uncompressed UYVY 422 8bit
    Quality: (Greyed out at 100)
    Width: 720
    Height: 576
    Frame Rate: 25
    Field Type: Upper First
    Aspect: PAL (1.0940)
    Audio Codec: Uncompressed
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample Type: 16 bit
    Audio Interleave: 0
Option 1 is great except that the audio codec detected is "0xfffe extensible wave format" (according to GSpot). I can play the video on practically any machine including something as old as Windows Media Player 9 running on Windows 2000! The audio plays back fine as well in Windows Media Player. However, audio does not play (not detected correctly) in VLC media player, or in Sony Vegas-type software. FYI, the video codec detected (by GSpot)  is "UYVY (packed 4:2:2)".
Option 2, on the other hand, is quite the contrary. The video does not play in any version of Windows Media Player (regardless of operating system), but the audio plays fine though. The audio codec detected (according to GSpot) is the standard "PCM audio" format and the video codec is again "UYVY (packed 4:2:2)". In VLC media player, both the video and audio play fine. But in other editing software such as Edius, the video is not detected and only the audio is loaded onto the timeline.
What I would like is a generic 4:2:2 uncompressed AVI file which has audio that works in anything. Is there some setting/parameter that I have missed? Can I customise Option 1 with "PCM audio" rather than "0xfffe extensible wave format"? I want to avoid "Video Codec: None" if at all possible given that the file size will be significantly larger for absolutely no quality gain (I presume this is uncompressed 4:4:4?).
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi Jim, I too am confused!
Why should the video codec for Option 1 be V210? Isn't this reserved for 10-bit video?
    http://www.fourcc.org/yuv.php#V210
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS398C372B-B748-4ef6-BA0D-396D2E360707.ht ml
I would have thought that the UYVY option was the correct choice for 8-bit video.
    http://www.fourcc.org/yuv.php#UYVY
Videos exported using Option 2 definately do not play correctly in Windows Media Player - I get no video, just audio. I have tried many different computers running different versions of Windows and Windows Media Player. I'm running Premiere CS5 v5.03 if that makes any difference.
I don't understand why videos from Option 1 play fine in Windows Media Player even though the systems don't have AJA hardware installed (or any video I/O device) - they are just plain vanilla office PCs

  • Saving a mov file as a 24 bit uncompressed avi

I have a MOV file that I created in LiveType. I need to convert it to a 24 bit uncompressed avi - I tried in Compressor (v3.0.5) but couldn't find a way. I tried in Quicktime Pro and saved it as an uncompressed 36bit avi, but don't know how to reduce it town to 24bit -- is it just reducing the colours to thousands or something?
    Argh!

Why do you need to make it to that specification?
Tell us what you are trying to do -what is the recipient going to do with the file?
Maybe we can help you find another way to do this that will be acceptable to your client.

  • Blackmagic uncompressed avi to quicktime

Here's a nice question to post on christmas eve (I've had my fill of sentimental films and good cheer - bah humbug)
I've been given some uncompressed avi files to use in my current edit (using fcp). They were captured from Beta sp using a PC and a Blackmagic card (don't know what model type, exactly).
They don't play in quicktime (or, therefor fcp). QT asks for a codec and so I downloaded the blackmagic codec from their website. it doesn't seem to help.
The format in the QT "get info" is...
    "YUVU", 720x576, thousands
As I said this should be an uncompressed file.
I understand there is some issues between the PC version of uncompressed (avi) and the mac version (.mov) when using a Blackmagic card.
Anyone have any suggestions for me to try (apart from re-capturing on a more compatible device?)
    happy christmas

I have found a solution, and in the interest of spreading the knowledge...
Quicktime has the codec to play back this uncompressed AVI movie that was captured on a PC/Blackmagic card. The problem is that the AVI does not tell quicktime correctly which codec to use. Quicktime is "confused" by the 4cc data. Its either a quirk of AVI vs Quicktime or a quirk of Blackmagic + Windows. Oh I dunno - its a quirk anyway.
Blackmagic tells me its a problem that can sorted by changing the "4cc code" of the movie file. As I understand things this is part of the some meta data of the movie file that identifies codec info. Blackmagic have a simple app that can edit the 4cc so that such an AVI will work on a mac/quicktime - it will also convert backwards so that it works on a PC. AFAIK this app is not on their website - I got it from Blackmagic support via email.
    So there you go.

  • Uncompressed AVI from SMOKE/FLAME to Final Cut

My current problem is importing (and viewing) Uncompressed AVI from Smoke/Flame/Inferno on a Final Cut Pro system. The audio plays but the video does not. I also find that when I export an Uncompressed AVI from Final Cut through Quicktime Conversion, I am unable to view the video on my own system. What is going on here and what am I missing.
This conversion must be done on the Mac, no PC alternatives please.
    Thanks in advance.

This AVI is coming from a Smoke or a Flame, as uncompressed. Basically the workflow will not allow any change in format from the Smoke / Flame, as it works with everything else in the pipeline.
Any suggestions on getting it into final cut...
I notice it plays through VLC but not through Quicktime.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 - exporting uncompressed AVI renderes black vid - help

I'm putting together a small demo reel (just under 6 minutes) where the image quality is important above all things.  I was trying to export an Uncompressed AVI movie, 1920x1080 with 16bit 48Hz audio in Pro CS3 (I don't have access to a later version), which seems to work except the video is being rendered black (the final file is 32 gigs).  I tried testing this with a 5 second clip to see if the length or size of the file was causing the problem but it was the same.  The reason I am doing this is that I want to do my codec and burn to DVD in another program (AVS) and need to export the video as pristine as possible,  It didn't seem to make a difference if I chose "uncompressed AVI" or the "Microsoft AVI" and then made sure the video setting were set to uncompressed.  I am sure that the video is alright as I was able to create a "Microsoft AVI" as long as I chose some sort of video compression but then that file is being doubly compressed.
I had heard mention that Premiere Pro (I am new to this package) should be able to export an uncompressed QT file as well but this option seems unavailable to me in the export options.
I tried using the Premiere Encoder to go straight to DVD from Premiere (this is not for Blue Ray by the way - I just wanted to master at HD so taht, in the future, when I do re-edit for Blue Ray I'll already have this material worked out for that resolution) but it generates a single Mpeg2 files that my DVD burner doesn't want to use (it seems to want things to be in the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS directory structure).
Sorry for this layman stuff but any help is much appreciated.
    -Michael

    Thanks Jim,
I tried None but the images (video) still comes up black.  I've tried
looking at the final AVI through Premiere itself and also AVS Media
Player, Editor and a few other programs.  The uncompressed audio is
there but the video is rendered black (uncompressed black so the files
are still huge).  All I have to do is change the codec to Cinepak or
one of the others that are available and suddenly the images are there
as expected but, unfortunately, the image degradation once this file
has been converted to High Quality DVD is not acceptable for my
    purposes.
I'm not sure what other alternatives there are  -- is there a way to
load additional codecs into Premiere (such as QT uncompressed) so that
I can give those a shot?
Thanks for your help on this.

  • What is the best video card to edit uncompressed .avi digibeta files.

I just digitised my digibeta footage into uncompressed .avi video files.
I just would like to know what will be the best way to edit using FCP.
What video card do I need? What are the best specs that i need to have on a mac pro or a mac book pro.
    How is it possible?
    Thx,
    James

    Why .avi?
Final Cut Pro works with QuickTime .mov files.
The video card in your MacBook Pro will be fine. The way to avoid rendering is to make sure that your Easy Setup and Sequence Settings match your source material.

  • Importing Uncompressed AVI Caused PGC Internal Software Error During Burn

When I export from PPro using uncompressed AVI and import that into Encore, the DVD burn blows up with a PGC internal software error. Somebody told me to export from PPro using DV-AVI instead of uncompressed, and that should fix things. Since that's going to take a day or so (this is a big/77 minute project) to export/import/transcode, I'd like to know why Encore doesn't like uncompressed AVI, and what's the difference between uncompressed AVI and DV-AVI? The DVD project passes validation without error, imports the assets without a problem, and the preview works fine for the entire show. Yet the build/burn fails!

    Trenton,
Rather than uncompressed, you could try a lossless codec like
    Lagarith
    or
    version 2.1.1 of HuffYUV
. Try Lagarith first if you want to experiment; HuffYUV can sometimes throw Encore for a loop if the clip length is longer than about 10 - 12 minutes.
That said, I have to agree with Harm - the MainConcept DV codec used in Premiere Pro is so good that a single generation loss from recompression for DV source footage (and that only for altered frames) is trivial and will not be noticed by your audience. It probably won't even be noticed by you unless you spend hours comparing individual frames. And who has time to do that? :)

  • Problems with large frame uncompressed AVI files in QT 7 player

I have just recently gone from QT Pro 6.5.2 to QT Pro 7, mainly because of the HD support.
I have a dual boot system with QT 7 on Windows 2000, and QT 6 on Windows 98SE.
I am having problems playing uncompressed AVI files in the QT 7 player, apparently if the frame size is large (in the example case 688 x 516).
Sometimes I just get "error 108 unknown error" pop up when I try to load the file. Sometimes the file loads but will not play except in short bursts of movement every now and again as it moves along the timeline. Sometimes the file plays, but with one or more broad black lines across the image!
All the problem files play perfectly in QT 6.5.2, but will not play in QT 7, which should surely play them better, not worse!
Can anyone make any suggestion as to what's happening?
I've uninstalled and reinstalled QT 7, which made no difference. I'm sure I don't need any extra codecs, as QT has always played RAW AVIs without anything extra before.
    Thanks in anticipation, Dave.
