Generating xml file from database table

Could anyone please explain how to generate a xml file from a database table.examples will be highly appreciated.

You use the XML SQL Utility component to accomplish the task. It's part of our Java XDK that you can download from http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml

I am trying to retrieve data from a DB table and generate an XML file.
I am using Oracle8i and IIS 4.0. I have downloaded XML parser for PL/SQL and XSQL Servlet. Also I have Jrun to enable IIS to process Jservlets
Here are my questions,
1. Do I need any other software ?
Also do I need both XML parser for PL/SQL and XSQL Servlet ??
2. What is the next step I should do ?

You downloaded the wrong XML Parser!
XSQL requires Java Parser. Well, there's a copy included with the XSQL package so you actually don't need to do another download.
You really don't need XSQL if you just want a XML file from DB, you just needed a XML SQL Utility. Download that and run the samples.

Error while retreiving xml file from database

Hi-
I am trying to configure Planning and getting the following error message at instance configuration step:
"Error while retreiving xml file from database"
We looked at PlanningSystemDB.properties, changes server name to its ip, reinstalled planning, made sure both auth methods are selected (sql server and windows), created new relational repository.. still the same error.

After spending 2+ hrs with Hyperion Support nothing got resolved.. Just to give more background on this problem, we originally reconfigured all Hyperion components to use different SQL server, that is when the problem started happening as soon as we got to Planning Instance Configuration. Could this be the situations when old server name is still somewhere in the system?.. Could this be Shared Services problem.

Hi I have some XML files say 100 files in a virtual directory created using "Create or replace directory command" and those files need to be loaded into a table having a column of XMLTYPE. 1)How to load that using Oracle provided procedures/packages

Check out the Oracle XDB Developer's Guide, Chapter 3. There is an example of using BFileName function to load the xml files from a directory object created using create or replace directory. It works really well.

Hello All,
I have installed and configured planning with Shared services. While I try to create an instance in Configuration Utility by entering the Instance Name, Host Name, Port (8300) and Click "Next", I get this error -
*"System failure:Error retrieving xml file from database".*
My RDBMS is - SQL Server 2005
OS - Windows 2003 Server
I am unable to work on planning for few months due to this error.. I would sincerely appreciate if someone can provide me a solution for this..

Ive seen this before.
If this is a new environment could you create a blank database and configure it as your System database? Then try again and you should be fine.
I think you may have some invalid entries in your sys database.

Please try to resolve this long awaited issue with Planning installation as this is purely configuration related issue.
Detail of Problem:-
After Susessful configuration of
1) Foundation Services (Hyperion Shared Services)
2) Essbase administration services
3) Essbase Server
4) Hyperion reporting and analysis
5) Planning -----> Product options, Register with shared services, configure database, deploy to application server (Appache)
Error Point: when i tick ckeck box in front of Product instance registration
click next
create instance
click next
instance name-Plan1
Web tier host name: my machine name (neeraj-pc, as i installed locally all component of hyperion)
server port: 8300 (system suggesting)
tick on active instance
click next

Maybe someone made request for official information from Oracle about this issue?
I'd like to change MS SQL to Oracle 10g, I hope this can helps (if reason in RDBMS). But if reason in logic of scripts... I dont't know...

I think, if your talking about generating XML, that you should use XMLElement, XMLForest, etc. to create your XML.
Lets assume that you base is relational data, then maybe the following great example will give you an idea how to do it : Re: Generate XML Schema from oracle tables
As michaels pointed out (did you read the link/ URL given?), the general expectancy is that the packages will be less and less important. So also maintenance wise the XMLElement, etc way will be the best, also for the future, maintainable method.

Generating XML file from WORD file

I am trying to generate xml file from a word file.
but i am stucked with how to do it? any kind of help will be useful.
i think for doing this work i have to develop XSD file, because when i am creating the xml file, the hidden space within the word file is not catched.
please help me out.

after searching on the net i came to know that org.apache.poi.hwpf.* is used for reading word file and its contents. for converting it to xml i have to use org.exolab.castor.xml.*
now my problem is that POI is in its early beta version and there is no help or any sample examples for understanding the api.
so if you have any idea regarding it, please write to me.

JAXB has been available as an early release download for some time. There are also XML Binding packages available from Borland (JBuilder) and Castor. These tools create Java classes from a source document, xml,dtd etc. You can use these classes to marshal-unmarshal XML documents.

another option is to configure an outbound IDOC and set the port for this IDOC to generate an XML file.
here again there will be IDOC control record in the first section of the IDOC XML generated.'
