Generation 1 vms pxe boot not working

Hi,
I have hyperv r2 hypervisor and installed Citrix provisioning services(PVS) software(vms get OS over network with this software) in one of my vms. I have WDS and MDT configured in my dhcp server. To use the above software, I need to install provisioning
services client software in a vm and boot over network. While booting over network, it connects pvs server and then starts normal boot. After login, that client OS will be pushed to a hard disk file on pvs server. We also have to create dhcp scope options
66 and 67 for this. I have set it correctly. 66 is pvs server name and 67 is ARDBP32.bin. I have updated them correctly. This is how it works.
Issues:
1) Now I have created generation 1 vm and when I boot over network by default it goes to my wds. So I have stopped wds service in my server. Now when I boot gen1 vm over network with wdsserver service stopped, it says dhcp server:0.0.0.0. If I start wdsserver
service, it gets IP, and contacts wds, starts network boot. This is not I want.
2) If I create generation 2 vm and boot over network with secure boot enabled, it says successfully downloaded ardbp32.bin file, but says boot failed: efi network. failed secure boot verification.
I am attaching screenshots for the above mentioned 1,2 and 3 issues. Can someone please help me here...
Thanks,
Chaitanya.

Ah.
VMQ gets disabled on the physical NIC.
Get-NetAdaptervmq
-Name "physical nic"
| Disable-NetAdapterVmq
You may need to destroy the virtual switch prior. And then create the virtual switch again.
Get-NetAdapter
Will show you the NICs that the management OS is aware of.
Get-NetAdapter -Physical
Will give you just the physical adapters back, not any virtual adapters that your management OS might have due to a converged networking configuration or through using "allow management OS to share.." setting on a virtual switch.

  • PXE boot not working on some models

We have a very strange situation that I was hoping someone could shed some light on.
    setup:
    ZDM 7 IR4HP1
    multiple VLANS
    situation:
PXE boot does not work on any model workstation other than dell 760 if connected to the network in any valn other than VLAN1 where the server resides.
dell 760 can be PXe booted in any vlan
any other model machine can only be PXE booted in VLAN 1 which is where the PXE server is.
PXE debug log shows nothing recorded at all from machines other than the 760's
non-760 desktops will recieve the Proxy address of the PXE server, etc, but for some reason they show multiple gateways and the correct gateway is always last. the extra gateway numbers are coming from switches.
I have no clue as to why dell 760's will PXE boot perfectly every time and in any VLAN (they only get one gateway and it's the correct one) but any other type of machine will fail every time if they are not in VLAN 1
sometimes the non-760's will get PXE error E78 No boot file name ...
other times no PXE error but an error "could not contact the boot server"
    HELP!

I have just encountered this issue myself (ZCM10.2.1). I have no idea where the issue is coming from, within windows, linux or osx its perfect... Today I blew away my entire ZCM install (working on migrating) but still have the same issue!!! Were using HP Procurve switches using OSPF for routing, I just restarted our core cisco router but can't verify if it helped, I'll let you know.

  • 4530s DC CARD or USB BOOT not working even if it has this option in bios

i just posted a message but i think it's in the wrong section..
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-questions/sd-card-boot-and-usb-boot-not-working/m-p/9...
Hi, i just got a HP ProBook  4530s , I5 processor, Intel HD 3000 , i have a problem with it, i can't boot on any usb or sd card, i tried all linux versions i could find and also some live windows and bartPE, on my sd card i get the "Disk read error" as soon as i choose the booting device and on usb it goes a little bit further i can see the linux logo some processes starting and then same error related to write on disk, the sd card and usb are not in read only mode and on my other laptop a older one 6730s everything works...
Also all the usb and sd card work perfect in windows, when i boot from internal HDD.
Is there a fix for it??  Or can anybody that has this laptop test if it works booting from usb or sd card, maybe it's a problem with this unit..
i have tried all available bios verions and various usb devices but as i said the usb sticks all worked on my other laptop but not on this one.
Oh and also is there a bios option to stop virus check on boot? as far as i could test that is the only option in bios that is not there and i can't test with it ON/OFF.. any help would be apreciated because i can return the laptop for 30 days and i allready have it for one week. and i really need this option to work.
PS - sorry for my bad english but i'm from Europe

Yes, I've tried this. I pulled the power cable, waited two minutes, hit the CMOS button, and also removed the battery, and waited another minute.
After which, I loaded optimized defaults, but the problem remains.

Ok so i re did my windows after i did a zero fill on my hard drive as it was showing a corrupted sector on my disk that seemed to fix it for now, until it comes back if it does crossing my fingers it gone for good. But now i can't seem to get Secure boot to work i mean i did not have it before as i just slapped the motherboard in with a existing windows, that was to be expected but this is a clean install of windows 8.1 and i even have secure boot on but its not working and reports as off in windows.  Is it because i have my bios set to legacy+UEFI??? would that make secure boot not work??. i even went as far as turning it off and back on again the secure boot setting nothing made a difference.  I mean its not a big deal bit would be nice to know why its not working, also another wired thing and i will post pictures of it, as i cant see my system reserved partition in disk management but diskpart says it there, i will post those pictures any ideas??.

fixed it is my legacy+uefi another forum got back to me.

  • Generation 2 vms pxe boot

    Hi All,
can anyone please confirm if pxe boot works with gen 2 vms in hyperv? I have wds installed in standalone mode. When ever I create new gen 2 vm, it takes ip, downloads some file and it says

I have tried with and without enabling secure boot option. I have wds(standalone mode), MDT and gen 2 vms. Can anyone please guide me how to make gen 2 vms boot over pxe?

    Hi,
You might need to set DHCP options 60, 66, 67 and 4011:
60: set the identifier to "PXEClient" (without the quotes) - pop it in all the active (I put it in the inactive scopes as well, for over-zealous safety) DHCP scopes, just in case the request is picked up by another zone/scope (ensure there are
sufficient IP addresses within the scope[s] - bit of daft point, but it wouldn't be the first time I have seen a PXE boot fail because there aren't any available IPv4 addresses)
66: set the Boot Server Host Name "<boot_server_name>.<...>.<CN>.<CN>" or by IPv4 address
67: set the Boot File Name; stop WDS from listening on UDP Port 67 - it will be used by DHCP:: ensure the full path is listed (verify this before running the PXEboot) - Just as side note, I tend to make the folder containing the file read/write - not sure
it actually does anything, but it frequently makes things a bit "smoother".
4011: ensure that PXE broadcasts from the clients are routed by WDS properly i.e.: the traffic should go to the appropriate server (DHCP, WDS and possibly BootTP if configured)
Also, and don't take this wrong way, but check, check and check again that the boot order settings are set in the Hyper-V Manager correctly.  Time and time again I have come up against this one.  Sometimes, for whatever reason, Hyper-v will put
the defaults back in, so you think you are booting off the network, and will be told as such, but will actually be booting off DVD/CD...
Create a VM, open the settings and then start the VM; watch the settings in the left hand pane.   If all is well, there will no change, if all is not well, there may be a slight "jump" as the VM starts up.
Could be an idea to start DHCP from the command line - if you have access to it and there are no impediments, there isn't (shouldn't be) any problem with ensuring it has started.
    Hope this helps
    - quick note, I'm not available for a couple of days but hopefully one of the other kind and generous souls on this site will assist you if you run into any problems.
    have a good one! :D
    Cheers
    Andrew
Oh, just had thought, check that you are utilizing only one IP address per network adapter on the client, DHCP and WDS servers.  There's a conflict between DHCP and RIS - or at least used to be, not sure if it has been fixed/sorted.
    Cheers! Andrew

  • WDS PXE Uefi not working in AD integrated mode, TFTP to slow

    Dear all
    1 Physical host: W2k12R2, 1 Hyper-V virtual switch.
1 Hyper-V VM with W2k12R2 DC with DNS, DHCP, WDS.
1 Empty Hyper-V VM Generation 2 UEFI booting from network.
Problem: Error "PXE-E16: No offer received" on the empty Hyper-V VM when trying to Uefi boot from WDS in AD integrated mode.
I verified that it works when WDS is set-up to standalone mode. See also:

Cause (found by Netmon IP traffic monitoring):
The Client asks for the TFTP Server on UDP port 4011.
The TFTP Server takes more than 8 seconds to reply on port 4011.
This seems to be due to NbtNs (Netbios name search) broadcast queries searching for 1C Domain Controllers.
    Solution: ???????
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Dominique, Zürich, Switzerland.

    Hi Dominique, Zürich, Switzerland.,
You can also create a virtual machine to act as a client machine when building and testing your deployment images. This is especially useful for building your custom images.
Note, however, that the performance will often be degraded, particularly during the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) download phase. This phase is very resource-intensive and may fail if insufficient resources are available on your server running Hyper-V,
could you use the physical computer then configure the same settings then monitor this issue again.

  • Is fast boot not working for you? This is how you get it working correctly...

Ok so after two days of trying to register on this site, the 50th activation email finally worked...
Anyway I was trying to figure out why fast boot wasn't making much of a difference it seemed like once it booted quick but may have just been random. My setup is Z77a GD65 with two Samsung 830 128GB in RAID 0.
It was taking about 30 seconds from pushing the power button to getting into windows and that was with fast boot enabled. That did not seem right. After messing around for a while and researching I came across many mixed reviews about doing this or doing that. Windows 8 Feature... The windows 8 feature is from my understanding and research for secure boot...
If your just wanting the faster boot times using fast boot. Just enable MSI Fast Boot, and install the Fast Boot utility so you can get back into the bios. When you enable fast boot, this disables usb devices etc so you can't get into the bios when booting. This little utility is really useful as it will boot you from windows right into your bios etc. KEEP READING STILL NEED TO DO MORE!!!!!
Now for fast boot to work correctly you need to make sure you installed windows 8 in uefi mode. I read a couple people ask this question but I don't think they got the right answer or people just said yea I have a uefi motherboard and windows 8. That is not what people have been asking you.
To get this working correctly format a flash drive using rufus while choosing your win 8 iso.
You can get that here and it explains it and the settings to choose. I had to break up the link as the forum would not let me post the link. Maybe a mod can fix the links.
    eightforums .com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html
After that is done you should then see in the bios a boot option for a UEFI usb flash drive. Make sure your boot mode is using UEFI. Otherwise it will be using legacy mode and not show uefi devices. I selected UEFI only just to make sure. Then choose this uefi flash drive as your first boot device and save and reboot to install windows from this uefi flash drive.
    It should look like this
Once your at the install screen delete your partititons from the drive you are going to install windows on. So that it is unallocated. Then select new and apply. This will create 4 partitions. Here is a nice quide for doing that and explains it all. eightforums .com/tutorials/2328-uefi-unified-extensible-firmware-interface-install-windows-8-a.html
Basically your partitions should look like this.
Once you have installed windows you will then know if you installed in uefi as your splash screen will be different. Instead of just the MSI splash screen you will then see the windows loading square/circle as well on this same splash screen. You will now have a boot option called UEFI Windows Boot Manager. Select that one as your first boot device and then enable MSI Fast Boot.
Sorry if this post is cluttered I will add some more pics and clean it up in a bit. It's really early.

If one SSD fails, you lose the data on both SSDs.
In your case, you lose 128 GB.
    Period.
You continue to argue on silly things and you miss the main point:
RAID 0 on SSDs does not make any sense.
RAID 0 (striped volume) has been designed for spinners.
It's a workaround to reduce the access time (a few miliseconds) caused by the mechanical parts of the HDD.
For a SSD (with a few microseconds access time) does not bring any boost.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-raid-benchmark,3485-10.html
On contrary: shorter lifetime for both SSDs
So (for the last time) the best solution in your case is:
Put the OS on the first SSD (drive C) and the other programs/games on the second one (drive D).
There is no need to kill both SSDs at the same time (for nothing).
And finally, talking about this silly "fast boot" of yours:
5,10,20, or 30 seconds is something irrelevant.
Simply because you get the max speed on an "empty" OS only.
With every installed app (most of them come with bloatware anyway), your boot time is getting longer and longer.
On the other hand, who cares if it takes 10 or 20 seconds?
Only someone with mental problems needs to boot up the computer all day long.
99.99% of the users boot up the computer once or twice per day.
From my point of view, this topic is closed.
You're free to think and do anything you like.
I take it you are extremely hard headed and only view this from your opinion. Even with your logic of "If a drive fails you lose 128GB of data is wrong." If a drive fails I would lose 256GB of data if the RAID was full...
The way you originally worded it made it sound like you thought RAID 0 only uses the capacity of one drive... I was trying to clear that up by saying it uses the capacity of both drives and ends up being 256GB capacity but I guess you couldn't wrap your head around what I was trying to say.
Think what you want... but everyone I know on all of the tech forums I have been on for years, "EVGA, HARD, etc" 99% of users prefer running OS in RAID 0 on SSD's. Anyone with half a brain does not store important files on a RAID 0 array. I even created a new thread on EVGA asking how members prefer installing Windows with two identical SSD's. Most of them said they always run a RAID 0 for OS on SSD's. A couple others said they prefer running Windows/Programs on one SSD, and Games on the other. Usually that is because when they reformat they can simply re initialize the steam directory on the second SSD and then you don't have to reinstall all of your games.
I respect your opinion but saying RAID 0 on SSDs does not make any sense is crazy talk. And that fast boot is only for people with mental problems lol... you sir have issues. Why do you think they made this feature? Why do people OC? A lot of people do it because it is fun, they are enthusiast, and they like to push a system. Why do people buy SSDs if its only a few seconds faster when you only turn on your computer once twice a day? When you only open an app or launch a game a couple times a day.

  • I have restored my ipod nano 2nd generation but its still not working

i have reset my ipod and restored it but it is still not working. i have connected to itunes and it has loaded some music onto it but though the light comes on you cannot see anything else on the screen. any suggestions would be appreciated

It might be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • Satellite M40-237: CD Boot not working + is USB flash drive boot possible

    *Model: Satellite M40-237 (PSM40E)*
I decided to reinstall windows, my hard drive is currently formatted. So as usual, boot from Windows CD is needed to start instalation but it simply won't boot. I never had problems like this, boot always worked. It is like there is no bootable CD in the drive (but it is bootable and it is working on another PC).
    - i have the latest BIOS
    - BIOS detects optical drive and everything is ok, HDD is primary ODD is secondary
    - i tried selecting boot priority with F12 and/or setting it from BIOS, but it won't work either way
What could be the problem here? Drive not working properly (i hope it is that and not something worse)? I had some problems with the drive i before (writing...), but it reads CD/DVD's normally and like i said boot was working fine before. I cleaned the lens a little, disconected it and put it back. Is there anything more i can do ?
I am trying to find someone who has the drive that fits so i can try with that one, but who knows when will that be.
Now, here is the second question i have related to this. Because my laptop is practically useless currently (i can't install anything), is it possible to boot from:
    a) external USB optical drive
    b) USB flash drive
Bios on this laptop has no USB boot option, it has HDD / CD / FDD / network. But I've red somewhere that FDD = USB if legacy emulation is enabled.
If that is correct i should just plug the USB drive and select FDD as boot option ? If i can't find USB optical drive, i was thinking of making USB bootable flash disk and copying windows xp installation on it. So once it boots into DOS i just start setup from the stick.
    tnx

First of all I have to say that the booting from USB flash memory (USB stick) is not possible and you shouldnt waste the time trying this.
Regarding your CD/DVD drive booting issue
Well, its really strange it sounds a little bit like a kind of master/slave/c-sel settings issue. But usually you should get a IDE (#0 or #1) error if one of the devices (HDD or ODD) would be not recognized ?:|
    The whole story sounds mysteriously
Maybe there is a firmware issue
Several months ago a friend of mine was not able to boot from the CD.
He entered the BIOS and set the BIOS back to the default settings.
    This helped
This is a suggestion but I really dont know if it helps.

  • I have a nano 5th generation and buttons do not work but click wheel does

My buttons often do not work. Until today, if I toggled the move button I could get it to work after 3-4 minutes of trying. I restored the  nano 1 hour ago. It turned on to teh menu, I moved to shuffle and selected that. SOngs are playing. But now none of the buttons work. Battery is charged, I toggle the hold switch, nothing helps. If I press the play-pause, the screen will light up for a few seconds. But that is all I can do. I can't go to the menu, go forward or reverse. I can't reset by pressing menu and select.
The only way I can stop the music is to plug it in with iTunes open - sync starts - music stops. But when I disconnect it after ejecting, it still is on - menu screen.
    Is the nano toast?

Does Apple replace my iPod Shuffle because the center or play/pause button is not working but all buttons are working except for the center button my iPod Shuffle is Silver and it has a scratches and a little dents and the back was pop up? what should i do help me does Apple replace it for free n warranty?
and if it has a Apple Care protection plan for iPod will Apple replace it for free?

If you did a Restore in iTunes, and it continues to have the problem, if it is covered under warranty or AppleCare, you should probably contact Apple tech support directly (not the users forum).  If you have an Apple Store nearby, a good way to do this is to make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar and take it there.  You don't have to have a reservation, but you can make one at the store's web page
