Generic DataSource cannot be updated in an InfoCube!

We have a Z infocube that is loaded directly by a Generic Datasource. We setup a infopack for initialize delta precess and other for Delta Update. With a DTP Full we load the initial data, but when we try to setup a DTP for Delta information the system respond that Generic datasource cannot be updated in an infocube directly because uses delta process AIE (RSM1112).
We have a transformation rule and many routine from the generic datasource to Z infocube, so for us is very difficult to setup a ODS. So anybody know is there another option that allow us to setup a DTP Delta for generic datasource to update directly to Z infocube, for us is going to be very helpfull any idea.
On the other hand, on DES with made a DTP Delta and the system doesn´t say anything, but on PRD the DTP Delta can´t be active.

Hi,
I am new to SAP. Act, i created generic data source over VBAK and VBAP including the fields:
VKORG, AMTBL, BSTNK, VBELN, MATNR, MATWA, ARKTX, KWMENG, LSMENG, KBMENG, KLMENG, VRKME, MEINS & CMWAE.
I transferred the data source in BI side and make a new Infosource and infocube. I made 2 Infosources for AMTBL and ARKTX.
And the rest of the fields are as follows:
0salesorg, AMTBL, 0doc_num, 0doc_number, 0material, 0mat_entrd, arktx, 0cml_or_qty, 0reqdel_qty, 0cml_cf_qty, 0cml_cd_qty, 0sales_unit, 0base_uom & 0doc_currcy.
After making transformations & mapping, when i made DTP, on activating the DTP it gives me error as:
DataSource ZPRACTISE_GDS ECDCLNT230 cannot be updated in an InfoCube
Can anyone please tell me how can i solve this error??

Dear Roma,
Go to the datasource manage> Select the request which is loaded recently having the erroneous data> click on the PSA button.
Now you can find out the erroneous record either by Filtering the value on the field 0DOC_NUM or by displaying the complete records in PSA and the searching the value (' .lkboig') in the 0DOC_NUM field column.
In this way you'll figure out the erroneous record, just try to correct it there by selecting the record and later on save the record.
Try to move this request from PSA to the target once again. This time you will not face any problem hopefully.

To enable delta update in generic datasource

Hi All,
I'm creating a generic datasource for master data. I want to enable the delta update option. While creating the datasource the option is disabled and i'm not able to tick the checkbox. Can you please tell me how to enable the delta update option.

Hi Sananda,
when creating the DataSource, choose button Generic Delta. In the dialog box that appears, specify the delta-determining field and the type of this field. Maintain your entries and save data. After the DataSource has been generated, the delta update field is selected.

Cannot activate generic datasource

I created a generic datasource (2004s) in BW based on function module in RSO2. While saving, this datasource was captured in transport. Further, to use this datasource I had to replicate it even though it was BW datasource, which prompted me for transport again. This time "Datasource in BW" version was saved in transport. So now my transport has two versions of datasource. When we moved this transport to quality, my datasource was available in active (green) and executable version and I didn't had to do replicate step. But when I tried to open infopackage and schedule load, it seemed like it was trying to save datasource (am telling based on message seen in left bottom corner) and it gave pop up saying system is non-modifiable. Message is understandable as quality system is in display mode only, but load fails with error - datasource needs to be replicated. And now when I open datasource in RSA1, its in edited version. So the state of datasource has changed now. For test purpose, I created test datasource in similar manner as above and transported to quality. And this time I manually replicated datasource in quality through RSDS but again same error occurred here which had occurred earlier while scheduling load. It is clear that system is not able to save datasource version. I have done this practice quite a few times but never came across such error even though quality system is display only. What is it exactly missing this time then?

Cannot create R3TR OSOA Version from a Generic Datasource

Hello my friends,
I need your help, please,
I have created a Generic Datasource, this generic datasource extracts data from a View in ECC, when I create the datasource and save it(RSO2 transaction), the system(ECC) only show me the R3TR OSOD object available to transport it, I need see the R3TR OSOA object to transport de datasource from Dev to QA system. So when I transport the datasource, i can't find the active version in QA System.
I think that this could be an authorizations issue, but i am not very sure.
This are the steps that I am executing:
1.- Assign the datasource to an Object Directory.
2.-The Object generated is OSOD(Delivery version) type.

that is the not problem first collect the TR at RSA6 same data source.

Generic DataSource & Delta setup

Hello Folks,
I am trying to get my Generic DataSources and Delta concepts straight and got more confused after reading a white paper titled "how to ...create generic delta". I am on SAP R/3 4.6c and BW 3.0b.
This white paper talks about creating generic datasource and delta using RSO2 in BW. It explains how to specify delta-specific field and then select a delta type (AIE or ADD) which sets the "delta update" flag after generating.
My question is
1)should we create a generic datasource and delta from BW as suggested by this white paper and not in SAP R/3 directly using RSO2 and RSA3? what are the pros and cons.
I tried creating a generic datasource in SAP R/3 using RSO2 since these transactions are available in SAP R/3. I noticed the "delta update" checkbox was always(or for the cases I tried) blank and protected. Also noticed a menu item under "Datasource" called "setup delta" to be grayed out as well. So looks like, a delta can be set up in SAP R/3 but does not let me do it.
My question is
1) why can't I set up a delta?

Hi Jay,
First, you do not create a Datasource from BW. A Datasource is created in R/3. You replicate them to BW afterwards so that you can create/map them to Transfer Rules.
Datasource creation is in R/3 only. You can of course create BW as a source of data for other systems but thats something else.
Creating a GENERIC DELTA is based only on TIMESTAMP, NUMERIC POINTER and CALENDAR DAY. Delta Check box is really grayed out for GENERIC DATASOURCES because once you specify that your generic data source is DELTA capable by using any of the three options above as DELTA, then the Delta Check Box is automatically checked.
What Setup Delta are you referring that you cannot do?

Generic DataSource using InfoSet on BI 7.0

Hi gurus,
I need to extract data from a InfoCube through a generic DataSource. I have created an InfoSet Query based on this InfoCube and I have noticed this kind of InfoSet is not the same that is used by Tcode RSO2.
Does anybody know if there is any way to get this vai generic DataSource?
I need to get data from Infocube because de Delta Control must be the package number.

Into the Tcode RSO2 (Generic DataSource) I have the option to collect data from an InfoSet. This InfoSet must be created through Tcode SQ02, right?
I woult like to get data from a Infoset Query based on InfoCube, created through RSA1 on BI 7.0.
Is there any way to do it?

How can I eject my ipod when neither itunes not the "safe to eject" button will allow it. Itunes says "...cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." The safe to eject button says "The device 'generic volume' cannot be stopped because a program is still accessing it." The has never happened before. The only thing new is that I added an iPad yesterday. Thanks.

Go to your computer's System Tray and try ejecting. If you can't eject, there is an application that is trying to access your iPod.
Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx and download ProcessExplorer.
Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555665 and follow the instructions under Resolution.
Note that this is a good, general process any time you can't access any file.
In my case an update to RealPlayer installed a program called RecordingManager that was accessing my iPod.

Delta issue on a Generic Datasource

Hi
   I had a Generic Datasource on a Z table.
   The Z table had a Date field on which Delta is based.The Postings are performed manually.
How to solve the delta issue in the below scenario.
Ex; A user made a manual posting with a date 09AUG2010 today and delta is extracted to BW.
    But tommorow a used made another posting with a date 14JULY2010....
Currently that record is not being extracted....how can i resolve this

Once the data source is created you will extract the data till that date and as the delta is set it will fetch the newly updated records .But i dont think one can post with the back dates in R/3 side.
If i'm not wrong if you are asking regarding record got missed out them wht need to be done?
Then do the repair full request and pull the missed delta records and it wont effect the delta settings.

Error while extracting data from Generic datasource

Hello Gurus,
I have encountered an error "Errors in source system" with status red while extracting data from generic datasource into DSO.
I have done below things:-
1. Checked the jobs in source system, the job is successfully completed
2. The generic datasource is active and supporting delta with calender day in source system.
3. No TRfc error and no idocs stucked.
4. No short dumps in source system.
5. The delta queue(RSA7) is showing 0 with status as green.
6. Replicated the datasource On BW side and also activated the transfer rules by RS_TRANSU_ACTIVATE_ALL
The problem has not yet solved. Could you guys please suggest me what might be the reason for this error......

I have used the generic delta using calender day.
Safety upper limit : - 1
Safety lowerr limit : - 0
I have made the entries in va01 transaction, but the delta queus is not getting updated which should show 1.
Do Generic extraction require any job to transfer data from Database table to delta queue.
We are not able to get the delta records on BW side. Please suggest.

How to deal with delete record in generic delta of generic datasource

Hi,
Anyone can give me suggestion about the delete record in generic delta of generic data. I need extract data with a generic datasource and hope deleted record in datasource also can be "delete" in next delta extraction. I do a test with generic delta. It seem that the delete record can not be updated in ODS. but updated record can be updated in next delta extraction.
How dose BW generic delta deal with the deleted record with generic delta mechanisim? Or how can I use generic delta mechanisim to realize that BW "delete" the deleted record of source system in ODS with delta extraction?

Delete is not supported in delta mechanism of generic delta extractor. You will need to add a workaround for that.
- Capture the deleted records somewhere (maybe enhance the txn deleting the record so the key is written to a Z table). Take these records to BW and manipulate the recordmode to affect deletion of corresponding record from ODS.
- If your generic delta is based on FM, and if the 'delete' is captured in change document tables, add the logic to check change document tables whether any records are deleted, and if yes, send those to BW with appropriate recordmode to achieve deletion.

How to set Non Cumulative Init flag for Generic datasource

Hi all,
I need to create a generic datasource which can be used to initialize the Non Cumulative Cube. Eg. setting the opening balance.
The STOCKUPD field in the ROOSOURCE should be set to X so that the infopackage will have the "Generate Initial Status" option. But there is no interface available in R/3 pluggin to do this.
How can this be done? Or is it not allowed for generic datasources as it is only valid of 2LIS_03_BX datasource
for stock updation.
Will there be other issues if I change the table entry for STOCKUPD in roosource table for my datasource?

Field in a Generic Datasource

Hi All,
I have created a Generic data source on a SAP table wherein I have a field called Business Area.
But when I upload the data from the R/3 table in my cube I want the filed to be Division.
That is I want data not be loaded Business area wise but Division wise.
Here Division is a navigational attribute of business area.
How do i do this?

Hi,
1) You have to understand your self about what type of upload(master data/Transaction data) you need to do.
Tell us the table name was suggested to use for generic datasource.
2) You have 2 ways to get ZDIVISION into the cube
a) Take BUSINESS AREA as part of cube and activate the use of Navigational attribute(ZDIVISION) in the cube.
b) Take directly the characterstic ZDIVISION into cube and use the update rule as explained by me earlier.

Delta enabled generic data source not updating delta

HI,
   Created one Delta enabled generic datasource with the help of ztable .Fill the content of table by manual entries.
   While executin init,records are extracted from R/3 system. After made a change in table entries , it is not captured in RSA3.
   Data source is avaialble in RSA7 after execueting init.
   Delta type== TIME STAMP
   fIELD NAME=zTIME
SAFETY LIMIT=30 SEC
ITS FROM 'NEW STATUS FOR CHANGE RECORDS'
Please help me on this issue..

how did you create your data source? - based on view, table for Function Module?
If it is based on a View or table, ideally delta should have worked. If it is not working, please chedk the data type of the field. Make sure that delta field (i.e. ZTIME) is getting updated evertyime you change any record in ztable. While extracting data in RSA3 in delta (D) mode, make sure you also give the target system ID. Also try runnign the delta infopackage in BW if it fetches data.
If nothing works, try creating your data source again.
If it is based on Fuction Module, you will have to include the delta functionality in your code.

In case of standard datasource, the document posted in R/3 is written to BW delta queue. Generic datasources don't support delta update directly but support generic delta. Can you pleasce clarify what exactly happend in case of generic datasoure.
