Generic disk icon for iPod on Desktop.

Hi,
I hope somebody can help me fix this. On desktop I have a generic disk image icon for my iPod, I would like to have the old iPod icon but it won't change on desktop. On the other hand, on save and open dialogs, the iPod icon is correct.
What do I need to have fixed on desktop so it shows the icon I want for my iPod?
Archive and Install is not a solution, already done that.
I really don't want to do an erase and install.
BTW, when creating a new user all icons are correct on desktop.
Thanks,
AJ

While logged into the other admin account, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option, recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the new account. If the problem's are solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Resolving conflicts or identifying corrupt plist files is a laborious process. Good luck.

  • Icon for iPod user guide gone blank

    OK, it's a little thing, but I constantly seek perfection.
    The icon for the iPod user guide (which used to have some nifty picture) is now blank. It's just a white square (the top half is a brighter white than the bottom half).
    Any idea how to get the proper icon back?
    Thanks.

    Yes, the user guide is an original 'app' that comes already installed in the iTouch. My problem is that out of ten times trying to open it, it will maybe open once or twice (if I'm lucky). I have a full wifi connection each time. Sometimes it starts to load but never finishes, but mostly it will just say 'loading' FOREVER, and then just is a blank white page,
    I really don't care ALOT, but, if I want to know something, i would like to know I could open it and actually find an answer!
    What gives? It's basically useless,taking up space and can't be deleted.

  • Two Icons for Mail on desktop e

    I have not clue how this happened but I now have two icons for mail, one in the dock, one on the desktop. I tired to move the one on the desktop to the trash but it will not do it. I get message that I can not put in trash because it is open. Even tho it is not open... any one know how I can get rid of the icon on the desktop?

    you may have dragged and dropped the mail app icon to the dock inadvertently. quit mail and if you do not want mail to be displayed on the dock, then go to the dock and drag that mail icon to the desktop, it should then "poof" disappear, and you can continue using the icon on the desktop if that is what you want to do.
    hope this helps

  • Generic icons for Office on desktop

    I copied the files on the desktop of my Air running 10.6.8 to a drive, and then copied those files to the desktop on my new Air running 10.10.2. The icons of all (and only) the Office files have gone generic. When I drag a Word file with the correct icon from a folder to the desktop, its icon goes generic.
    What's going on and what can I do to change this behavior?

    Back up all data before continuing.
    Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    mv Des*/.DS_Store .Trash/
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal.
    Relaunch the Finder, then empty the Trash. Test.

  • No icon for iPod touch.

    Ok, so I used to have an iPod nano that when I would plug it into my Mac, an icon would show up and when I wanted to eject it I would drag the icon down to the trash can. Now, with the iPod touch, nothing shows up. Did I do something wrong or does this feature not apply to the touch.

    It doesn't apply to the iPod Touch. It won't ever appear on the desktop. Eject the iPod using the blue eject button to the right of your iPod in the devices list.

  • Icons for images on desktop do not update when edited in Preview

    I didn't know what topic to put this in but I guess I consider this a Finder issue.
    Here's the problem: In both Leopard and Tiger, when I edit something in Preview and save it the little icon preview image on my desktop (you know, above the file name) does not change, even after I restart. I know the world isn't going to end because of it but it has gotten to the point where I'll edit things in Photoshop instead of Preview just to get the stupid icon to be accurate, otherwise I don't know if I've worked on a picture already or not. It would save me from a lot of time wasted booting up Photoshop just to crop an image.
    I also noticed that the Spotlight comments (when I use "get info" on the file) still describe the picture in its larger format before cropping. It just doesn't seem to update itself. The image I am looking at as an example is a PNG right now but I'm sure it has happened with jpegs as well. (generally I'll just go into Photoshop in the end and save from there to update the icon out of frustration)
    Can this be fixed? It would certainly make me enjoy using Preview a little more.
    I thought this would go away with a Leopard upgrade but it doesn't seem to.

    Is there a way to remove or replace the preview image manually, then?
    select the files with custom icons and enter commandoptioni.
    in the resulting info window select the little icon in the top left corner and press delete.

  • Generic document icons for applications in Simple Finder

    I have an account setup with Parental Controls and using the Simple Finder. In the My Applications folder of the simple finder, all of the apps show up with the default blank document icon instead of the correct application icon. How do I fix this?

    Hi Warren -
    I imagine you already tried this, but just to be sure, did you change the default .tiff app in Finder? Does that change the icon? If so, what happens when you then change the default back to your app?
    If the above doesn't help, what happens when you change the Bundle Name and Executable File name of your app, then set the default .tiff app to the "new" app? Not saying this is practical if you've already distributed your app, but it might help to know the result.
    Here's some misc info that may give you more ideas: [http://ask.metafilter.com/67832/Changing-filetypes-icons-in-OS-X].
    Btw, we have at least two or three experts around here who will probably know exactly what to do. I'm only filling in until one of them shows up. So if none of the above is useful, stay tuned.

  • Why can't I place disk icons on my desktop?

    Why can't I place disk icons on my desktop?
    I installed OSX Lion, version 10.7.1 from the App Store onto the internal disk of my MacBookPro which was cloned to an external FW800 GoFlexDesk drive. I booted from that external drive, ran the disk utility to erase and then repartition my internal drive so that I would have a "clean" installation of Lion. My disk icon (for the internal drive) does not even show in Finder windows. In Snow Leopard I showed my internal drive, my Time Capsule drives, and any external drives on my desktop as icons. Now these do not even show in Finder. I know they are there, because if I choose the path view option, they are shown when I pick "All My Files" under favorites. I can navigate backwards in the path bar, but still they do not actually allow me to select them or drag them to the desktop. In Snow Leopard, it was an option to show disks on desktop in general system preferences, but I find that option no where in Lion! What simple little thing am I missing?

  • My iPod shuffle 3rd Gen icon has been replaced by a generic drive icon

    I connected my iPod shuffle 3rd Gen up via iTunes today only to find that Lion was displaying a generic drive icon for it in place of the iPod shuffle icon. I've since tried restoring the iPod using iTunes, and re-starting my MacBook Pro but it's not fixed it. There doesn't seem to be a standard icon library in Lion and I can't find any discussions about this on the various Apple support pages. Any ideas how to get it back?

    You need to reinstall iWork from the original source or from backup. If you installed it from a DVD, the Mac App Store version isn't free.

  • Desktop drag and drop icon for my "other" computer

    i really need an icon for my MacBookPro desktop to reside on my Mac Pro desktop (and vice versa) so that I can just drag and drop copy (or move) data from one volume to another. sort of like what I have with my dropbox icon in the sense that I can just keep this on my desktop and in the View Pane of Finder and drag and drop items or open the volume etc.
    is this possible and i am just not getting it to work because i don't have things set to mount automatically or is there a restriction that does not allow this that I don't understand?
    i am on snow leopard and the connection is via wi, but I could plug in via ethernet when i know i will need to do this sort of moving of data a lot.
    thanks for clearing any of this up for me.

    if as3, create a sprite or movieclip and use:
    image1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,downF);
    image1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,upF);
    function downF(e:MouseEvent):void{
    Sprite(e.currentTarget).startDrag();
    function upF(e:MouseEvent):void{
    Sprite(e.currentTarget).stopDrag();

  • Custom icon for my USB flash drive?

    Alright, now I realize I'm probably missing something here, but it's getting away from me here. All I want to do is have a custom icon for my flash drive that will show up on any Mac that I plug it into.
    As it is, I can assign a coustom icon (by doing the old get-info-copy-and-paste-the-icon thingie), but it doesn't show up when I plug it into another Mac. I just get the generic disk icon. What am I missing? This has to be quite simple.

    Trey,
    I may be PITW, but I think the icons used to represent various volumes/devices are (if customized) specific to a system (not the volume/device). Thus you would have to set the custom icon for your flash drive on each system you wanted to see it.
    A WAG: I haven't the slightest idea if it would work for a flash drive, but for a CD one would drag the custom icon (.icns file) to the root level of the CD and rename it .VolumeIcon.icns before burning the CD.

  • Install OS X disk icon

    (This is an old question, which was never resolved, so I am posting it again in the hope that during the time since posting, a solution has been found)
    I used Remote Disk on the MacBook Air to access the Snow Leopard Installation disk on my iMac. After a successful, but painful installation, when I boot up the MacBook the 'Installation Disk' icon appears on the desktop. Trashing it works, but it appears on next restart.
    How do I remove it?

    If you got the question mark and you do not see any partition to install OS X to, it is not good.
    Close the OS X installer by pressing the red button at the top left corner of the Install OS X window, and open Disk Utility. Then, look at the left sidebar and tell me if you see your hard drive. You should see something like this:
    Do not worry if you do not see Macintosh HD or if the option with an arrow shows a different name. This is normal.
    If you see it, choose it, go to the Erase tab and erase the drive. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. You will lose everything if you do not have a backup.
    If you do not see the drive, it is damaged and it has to be replaced. You can replace the hard drive of a MacBook Pro without voiding the warranty, and any 2'5" SATA hard drive is valid. If you are not an experienced user or you do not want to go inside the MacBook, take it to an Apple Store or reseller.

  • "Connect to iTunes" icon on iPod Touch 2G???

    On Wednesday I upgraded to OS 3.0 on my 16 GB iPod Touch 2G. Everything was working fine until this afternoon when I turned on my iPod to read an e-book that I had been reading earlier and there was a black screen with an icon of a USB plug and an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. I tried shutting down completely. It didn't help. I tried charging it with a wall plug. (I was at work and couldn't get to iTunes.) It didn't help.
    When I got home I connected it to my MacBook and ITunes, it synced and all seems to be well now, but what the heck happened? Is this a sign I have a problem lurking in the background? (And, no, it's not a jailbroken iPod and never has been.) I bought it new, I'm the only user, and it's worked flawlessly until this.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Judie

    Have you had this happen before? I haven't. I tried googling "Connect to iTunes icon for iPod Touch" and there were a couple of posts but I sensed that those folks had it happen on a jailbroken iPod.
    Did you upgrade to the new iPhone OS 3.0?
    I'm hoping someone that knows what caused this will reply so that maybe we can prevent it from happening again. It sure was a helpless feeling when I couldn't get to iTunes while at work. Now I feel like I can't depend on the iPod to always work properly.
