Generic Print Drivers

I was told that I need to install generic print drivers for my HP Officejet 5610 printer inorder for it to work with my Netgear print server.
Does any one know where I can find them?
Thanks;
Steve

A number of vendor drivers written for OS X cannot be used when connecting via SMB to a printer that is shared by Windows. This is due to limitations of the driver.
In some cases, if you were to enable the LPD Print Service in Windows, you can connect to the share using the same syntax as SMB but on the Mac you would use the LPD as the protocol.
If you can reply with the brand and model of printer you have then we may be able to provide more information.

  • Windows generic printer drivers

    Hi
I see on my home computer which has Windows 8.1, that installs Windows printer drivers for my wireless(connected to router) Canon MG3560 printer.
However when I try the add the printer via printer panel on Windows 2008 R2, it keeps giving me 'Can't install printer' error, yet it detects the printer.
So how do I get Windows Server 2008 R2 to install the Windows printer drivers for my printer. I rather not use Canon drivers if I don't have to.
    Thanks,

The drivers that Canon included in Windows 8.1 are different than the print drivers Canon included in Windows 7/ Server 2008 R2.
The only drivers that are available for the device are written by Canon.  If you just need the print driver rather than a bunch of applications that Canon bundles with the download at Canon, Click the Windows Update button in the Add Network Printer
wizard model dialog when adding the printer using Printmanagement.msc on Server 2008R2.  If there is not a Canon driver there for the  OS, you will need to head to the Canon website

  • Windows 7 pre-installed generic HP printer drivers

I have a Photosmart C7250. When I plug it into my machine, Windows 7 (release client) autmatically finds drivers for Photosmart C7200 series. Some of the functionality of my 7250 is not available such as automatic double-side printing. Also, instead of printing one page-per-sheet, it prints 2 pages on one side as if it is supposed to be a booklet.

You can either wait till the official Win 7 drivers are released, or follow the workaround in the How To Install Printer Drivers in Windows 7 thread, which is stickied to the top of the Win 7 forum here.

  • SOLUTION: Get Win 7 Printer Drivers/HP Solution Center to Work on Windows 8

Took me some time to figure it out, but I got it to work.
    First of all, the preliminaries:
I have an HP dv9700t laptop running the 64-bit version of Windows 8 Pro RTM (not the preview, but I assume it will work on Preview as well).  My printer is an HP Photosmart C7280.  If you have a different printer, it is possible that something similar to how I solved my problem will help you, especially by running your installation files in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode.
Windows 8 does come with stock C7280 printer drivers that work by going into Control Panel>Devices and Printers>Add A Printer, but there's only limited functionality with those.  As such, I wanted to run the HP installation files to have increased functionality.
Unfortunately, when I ran the full installation file from HP for my printer, there was no "Install a Printer" button, or any of the other usual buttons.  There was only an "Exit" button.
Here's how to get it to run and install properly.
Right-click on the HP Full Installation file, then Properties>Compatibility>then check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then select "Windows 7" in the dropdown box, then Click "OK".
Run the installation file as you normally would in Windows 7.
I tried this two ways.....the first while connected via USB cable.  It worked just fine with no errors.
I also tried it with the printer connected to my network via WiFi.  Ran into some problems.
The installation program would detect my printer just fine, and I clicked "Next" or "OK" or whatever the prompt was to install the printer.  The installation would hang on "Reply from SNMP" (or something similar) and it would list the IP address of my printer.  I waited, waited, waited for an hour, and it wouldn't get past this.  Not to worry.
Proceed with normal installation until you get to the "Reply from SNMP" message and the installation stops responding.
Enter the Task Manager with CTRL-ALT-DEL.  You'll see an entry in the "Apps" for the HP installation program....LEAVE THIS ALONE.
Below the "Apps" list you will see the "Background Processes" list.  In this list is something along the lines of "HP Network UI", or something similar, consuming a significant amount of CPU.  Highlight this entry, then click, "End Task" at the bottom.
The "SNMP" window will close and your installation program will then finish normally and your printer/fax/scanner will be properly installed.  HP Solution Center works normally, as does printing, scanning, etc.
Will the next person who uses this give some feedback and also answer some questions for me so I can update this post with more specific information?
Please let me know what the exact "SNMP" message is when the installation hangs.  Please also let me know the exact name of the "HP Network UI" background process is, as well as the HP Installation app name.
    Hopefully this will help you.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

thanks for the solution. I have an HP Photosmart D110a wireless printer. Windows 8 installed a generic printer driver that worked fine for printing but I lost all functionality to the scanner of the device.
I tried to follow your instructions. I do get an error at some point when the software installer tries to talk to the printer and it gives an error message. It finds the printer OK but stalls. The error message is different and merely reports that there is a problem, no further details. There is indeed a background task "HP Network UI" or similar but ending this task doesn't do anything on my system. The Network UI task ends and the error message stays open. I ended a couple more background tasks but it would not go anywhere.
I then uninstalled the entire package, unplugged the printer, turned its wireless feature off and reinstalled the software in Windows 7 compatibility mode. When it asked to plug in the printer to the USB it finds it right away, the installation continues and is almost finished when it stalls again. This time it reports that it has a problem again and needs to uninstall. Still with the error message and installer open I open the installed "Solution Center" and I can find the printer fine (it actually lists two devices, one being grayed out). It initially gave me an error message when I tried to scan something, but ignored the error. Eventually the scanner worked as intended. I force ended all installer tasks in the task manager and the Solution Center works fine and does all tasks it did under Windows 7, now in Windows 8.
    thanks again for the post

  • 3 different HP print drivers from 7 Macs all running 10.4.6?

I am attempting to setup an HP Color LaserJet 3550, connected to the network via the included USB to ethernet print server. The printer does have a static IP address, but for now I am trying to setup the printer using 'Bonjour'.
From all systems, I go to Printer Setup > Default Browser, and select "hp color LaserJet 3550 (000E7FE922F3)". The Print Using menu defaults to Auto Select, and after a few seconds pops in the following, per system (again, all running Mac OS X 10.4.6):
    iMac G5 (20"): hp color LaserJet 1.4
PowerBook G4: hp color LaserJet 1.4.5
    iMac G5 (17"): hp color LaserJet 1.4.5
    iMac G5 (17"): hp color LaserJet 1.4.5
    iMac G5 (17"): hp color LaserJet 1.4.5
    iMac G5 (17"): hp color LaserJet 1.4.5
iMac Intel: hp color LaserJet 2.0
If it's not obvious, I'm wondering why the heck the same OS version has different print drivers for the same printer.
I tried HP's website for updated LaserJet 3550 drivers, and the only option that pops up is the LaserJet 1.4 installer. In the case of the 20" iMac above listing the 1.4 driver, I probably inadvertently overwrote version 1.4.5...
So, why is this happening and can I possibly update ALL of my Macs to version 2.0 of this HP driver sofware?
Also, I would like to believe that I can get better speed results if I setup my printers using the IP Printer method. I would love advice on that.

    7 different Macs   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi Greg, thanks for the reply.
I went ahead and downloaded the 10.4.6 Combo Update and reinstalled it on the 20" iMac successfully, but curiously the driver remains "hp color LaserJet 1.4". I didn't bother reinstalling the Combo Update on the others that are already pulling up "hp color LaserJet 1.4.5" due to your comment about the Intel versions being "different" - I figure 1.4.5 is the latest version for the PowerPC code.
I also assumed my printer WAS a postscript printer, especially since, when adding the printer as an IP Printer > HP JetDirect - Socket > Print Using: Auto Select, it pulls up "Generic PostScript Printer" automatically.
I tried installing that hpijs software along with the ESP Gostscript software, and, using the IP Printer / HP JetDirect - Socket process, I can select "HP Color LaserJet 3500 Foomatic/hpijs" from the HP list. But, when I try to print anything to this new printer, the print job appears to go through on the computer, but nothing ever shows on the printer.
Anyway, it appears as though I am stuck using Bonjour with whatever HP Color LaserJet version the OS feels like using (1.4, 1.4.5 or 2.0). My next question would be if I can somehow setup the printer using the IP address and still use the HP Color LaserJet driver that seems to work. I still don't know if using Bonjour would be slower than a static IP setup...
Setting up printers in Mac OS X has become quite annoying.

  • 10.4.6 skewered my generic printing...

    Why, oh why, me?
So, I have an HP OfficeJet K80 and of course, HP has no drivers. So, 3 years now and I've been trucking along fine with an HP JetDirect / IP Printing / Gimp-Print HP 900 driver v5.0.0 beta (whatever that is). Even printing wirelessly with an Airport Exteme. So, I upgrade like a good soldier and it knocks my generic printing scheme OUT! No idea how to fix. I've been trying EVERYTHING. Reset printing, pulling out every wire, add & remove printers...AT MY WITS END. Not only that, my wife is going to do a John Bobbit if I can't print again. PLEASE HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I can't believe a drive I've barely even used has
    just died.
What's a little odd is the system not recognising the
drive. So what exactly does System profiler actually
say, or not, under both the ATA and Disc Burning
    sections?
Unfortunately, it says nothing under the ATA and Disc Burning sections. I don't even hear the drive when I powerup as I used to.... It did make some funny noises after the 10.4.6 update but that has stopped.
I'm tempted to open the machine up and check for a flaky power connection, but opening up a powerbook is not quite as easy a desktop and I'm loathe to do it.

  • Install print driver in 10.4, and make it show on the print drivers list.

    Hi,
I can't seem to install my Canon print driver, and make it show on the print drivers list. I have a Canon MP180 as a network printer on a Windows Computer, and it requires special printing drivers, not the OSX bundled ones. Without it, I can't print to it. Even with the driver installed, I can't see it on the list of drivers.
    Any help is appreciated.

    1. Bonjour for Windows is installed and configured properly, although it will not install or see an HP driver for the HP Photosmart C3100 printer. The only drivers the PC sees are Generic PCL and Generic Postscript. Bonjour for Windows "sees" the Photosmart printer, plugged into the Mac.
    2. I don't believe the Mac's firewall is on. I'm using a SonicWall firewall appliance between our home network and the Internet.
    3. Printer sharing on the PC -- as I'm sure you know -- isn't configured as it is on the Mac. There is an option to share the HP Photosmart on the PC (if the printer were plugged directly into the PC), but that is disabled. Printer sharing cannot be configured for the instance of the HP Photosmart that was installed by Bonjour for Windows.

  • Epson Printer Drivers (R200)

I am really stymied by this. I normally have my Epson R200 connected to my Windows 2003 server and I print to it from my iMac via Windows sharing. The result is the drivers from the iMac are the GIMP drivers not the native R200 drivers. This results in a abridged set of print options for the R200, in particular the ability to print directly onto a DVD or CD is not working correctly with Disk Print. Now if I attach the printer directly to the Mac the Mac then immediately identifies the printer, adds it and then and uses the correct native (Leopard) drivers (it is identified as an Epson R200) and all works perfectly including Disk Print (menus have more selections than GIMP print). This tells me the printer drivers for the R200 are resident on the iMac. here is the part that is driving me mad. I then reconnect it back to the Windows server and add it back as a Windows printer and when selecting the drivers for the Epson I go hunting in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Content/Resources and see all the Epson drivers except the R200. I have used the find command to look for them. To no avail. Looked in the Epson folder in PPDs. No luck. They are there somewhere but, beats me where they are. If I could locate them I bet all would work fine. Anybody know where the heck they might be lurking.
    TIA
    Guy

Did you ever resolve this? I have roughly the same problem with an R300. It finds the driver just fine when I connect via usb. But when I connect over the network, the closest I can find is some generic "Epson Photo Stylus Series" driver, in both old and new flavors. Neither of which work. Epson claims the R300 driver is built in to Leopard, which as we both know it is when we connect via usb, but darned if I can find it when connecting via samba.
Anyway, I've just been beating myself over the head over this the last few days, pouring over the support forums to see if anyone had worked this out yet... let me know!

  • HP 4200 series Printer Drivers

I am having a problem getting a new HP Deskjet F4280 to print. When I send a document to print, all the normal functions happen from selecting the number of copies , etc, and the print progress bar shows up and fills in but it never prints. The jobs completed shows whatever I send as completed with the time and date. I can get the Deskjet to Scan and Copy from the computer controls. I tried to find updated drivers at Apple.com for this printer but they are only there for OSX 10.5. Leopard.
I have done the all steps HP online assistance has suggested but, do not have a solution yet. I have loaded the latest OSX drivers from the HP site and installed them. If I use the Printer Setup Utility to try to install it as a HP printer I am unable to find drivers, I presume because the printer is not listed (old listing of printers)
I have now used the generic printer option in the Printer Setup Utility and have found I have a driver version 10.4 and PPD file version 1.0 listed.
I go to "about this Mac" and look at the printer option, I now have installed:
    Deskjet F4200 series:
    Status: Idle
    Print Server: Local
    Driver Version: 10.4
    Default: Yes
    URI: usb://HP/Deskjet F4200 series?serial=CN8882D3VP05BR
    PPD: Generic PostScript Printer
    PPD File Version: 1.0
    PostScript Version: (2000.0) 1
Can anyone tell me if this is the correct driver version I should have? Any idea what I need to do to get the printer to print?
    Thanks
    Ron

OK, so I "think" you're installing driver version 9.7.1? - Yes
In Print & Fax/Printer Setup, are you clicking on Default - which gives the default browser? - That's the main problem I think anyway. I cannot get the Print Browser selection window within the Printer Setup Utility to accept this printer so I can make it the default printer. If I go to the HP selection list, the Series 4200 or the drivers are not listed so I can't select the default printer.
If I try the "Other" selection I am taken to my Documents folder and can get to all the other folders but I cannot find the printer and drivers in any subfolder.
And the printer is connected by USB? Yes, I know that is working correctly as the install 9.7.1 program identifies the printer and gives the serial number when plugged in and turned an as directed
Again - "generic" won't be useful in any way. I have found that to be very true.
I don't understand what "the utility is not up to date" means here.
What I mean is that when I select to "add a printer" I'm taken to the "Print Browsed " window where I hi-light the 4200 Series printer and make that selection. The Print Browser window tels me I have selected that printer and that is located at G4 (??? See below). I am then asked to select the printer or driver from the list provided in the drop down listings. I go to HP and the Series 4200 printer is not listed.
Have you repaired permissions? (Disk Utility in Utilities) - Yes, every time I reinstall the 9.7.1 program.
COULD the problem be that the printer is located at G4 instead of the Hard Drive? Just to make sure can you tell me how can I change the location to the Hard Drive ?
    Thanks

  • Fax printer drivers cannot work well through Microsoft SDK

When using Fax printer drivers and Microsoft SDK to print a txt file in WIN7 or WIN SERVER 2008 R2, open the generated tif file with windows photo Viewer, it shows error "Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because the file appears to be damaged,

    Hello Petter,
From your description, it should be that you code is ok since it works on win8, and the underlying driver the PrintDocument class called could be the caused reason due to different windows operation system. For this, I move it to the driver related
forum, since this forum is for .NET class libraires.

  • How do I install dell v305 print drivers on my new macbook pro?

how do I install dell v305 print drivers on my new macbook pro?

Dell's drivers are only for Windows. If you can find out who makes the printer and what model it is, then you may be able to find OS X drivers for it. Or you can see how well it works using the Generic driver.

  • Locating bundled printer drivers on OS X install disc

Months ago I deleted most of the pre-installed printer drivers on my Mac to reclaim almost 2GB of space. Naturally, I'm looking to get one of them back now.
Can I locate the drivers on the OS X Install Disc without re-installing OS X? I tried a custom install, but you can't deselect "Essential system software" when running install.
Lexmark's site doesn't have a driver for my T520 printer for Tiger, but according to Apple's list of drivers included on my Tiger install disc, it's on there.
My printer works with a generic Lexmark driver, but I would prefer the actual driver with all my options available.
    Thanks!

    Hi.
Printer drivers are located in the Optional Installs package of your Tiger install disc.

  • How to uninstall print drivers Canon MF4150 issues

Hello all, I am having a nightmare of a time getting my Canon MF4150 to print. It looks from all of the threads on here it was a less than ideal choice for a Mac owner.
When I first bought the unit I managed to get it to print, everything seemed peachy.
Problems arose when I wanted to use the unit to scan. I downloaded a variety of third party software and drivers in an attempt to get the scan function working. I had mixed results, and this process seemed to upset the printing side of things. Once I scanned a document, the printer would then not work.
I abandoned the idea of scanning through the MF4150 and have gone back to dedicated Epson scanner.
Since then I have not had any luck getting the printer to print again.
I have gone through all the MF4150 related threads on these boards I can find, and followed the process to installed outlined here - https://discussions.apple.com/message/7657893#7657893 but to no avail.
I really just want this thing to print and it's driving me nuts.
I have the printer attached directly to my MacBook Pro running 10.5.2. I'm not trying to print through the Airport.
I would like to know how to completely uninstall any UFR II drivers and related software / information and start this process from the beginning again.
So far, using the answer provided by PAHU here https://discussions.apple.com/message/7657893#7657893
    I have -
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    > DONE
    2. Select the MF4150 printer and press the minus " - " button to remove the printer. Do the same to any other printers that are in the printer list.
    > DONE
    3. Hold down the Control key and click in the empty printer list. A window showing 'Reset printing system' will display. Click this.
    > DONE
    4. Close the Print & Fax utility.
    > DONE
    5. Run the Canon UFR2 v1.70 installer and select Uninstall when the Easy Install menu appears
    > This is where I get snagged. I'm not offered a Uninstall option. I have attached a screen grab of the window I am presented with. I am currently trying the "o1141enx_m_ufr224" version of the UFR driver. I have continued to complete the points below regardless of the fact i cannot uninstall.
    6. Restart the Mac and run the v1.70 installer again to add the UFR2 files back onto your Mac
    7. Go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Select the Mac OS X partition in the left pane and select 'Repair Disk Permissions'. When this has completed, quit Disk Utility
    8. Open Print & Fax and add the MF4270 again
    9. Open TextEdit, type some simple text and select to print.
    10. Report back if the above doesn't get you printing.
I have also attach a screen grab of the process I go through when adding the printer.
Any help with this would be amazing. I've tried everything I can think of.
My latest idea is to try and remove any trace of previous printer drivers and go from there. You can see in my list of available drivers in the file attached I now have all sorts of UFR drivers in the list.
Again, if anyone can throw me a line on this that would be great.
    Thanks & Regards
    Coz

    Hello Coz,
It's been a while since you've posted, I hope you have not given up.  I was having grief with my MF4150 as well, but got it working.  There is a more current driver - search for Mac_UFRII_V230_uk_EN and install it.
Then, when you go to add your printer through System Preferences > Print & Fax, make sure you click the "default" icon in the top of the dialog.  It should show your Canon MF 4100 series , then use the bottom drop down menu to choose your driver and select Canno MF410 Series UFRII LT (UK) from the list.
