Genius bar appt.

Why is it so dang hard to make a genius bar appt.?  I have spoken with people over the phone with an issue but it still keeps happening. I go to make an appt. and it won't let me. It make me go through the phone system and Schedule a time in talk on the phone. Excuse me, I have done all that. I am sign in and everything but It still won't give me the option of making a direct appt. I go to the store web site that has helped before.  I am so confused!  Help!

they are likely trying to weed out the "simpler" problems/issues to save the "real" issues for the Genius Bar... If it doesn't give you an option to "Bring in for service [Genius Bar], then just choose a different "reason" for your issue... choose Hardware Problem > Computer won't start up normally or turn on (or similar) and you can just explain your situation at the appointment to the GENIUS (snickers! why wait!) once you are there... It likely won't cause any real problems doing so this way.
I too have had a HECK of a HARD time even FINDING the link to the G.Bar signup page with time slots available at the Genius Bar(s)... seems like they are making it harder to find (on purpose of course, it used to be simple to book an appointment).... leaving a portion or majority of all calls to the Phone and Online Tech Support teams....
Saving money for AAPL... less genius bar appointments means less geniuses to pay. Less Geniuses to pay means more money for Apple, the true "Genius" of it all.
Lol but seriously, either they are becoming overwhelmed with GBar appts., OR They are saving money with the same amount (or less) of Genius Bar appointments... OR their stores have gotten too crowded with Apple's fanboys and fangirls and they are trying to clear up more space for people buying new Apple products and accessories... which is the other (or THE MAIN) point of the Apple Store's existence...
Hope I answered your question... thanks for dealing with my long-winded and round-about answers!
Cheers!
An Apple a Day...

Yes, if you purchased it in an Apple store, they should be able to assist you.  Bring your MBP with you as well as the Drive.
    Ciao.

  • HT1766 I made a genius bar appt.  I don't know how to do a back up as my problem is I dropped my iPad and smashed the glass.  It is still in one piece.  Is a backup in this case really needed?

I made a genius bar appt to help for my iPad.  I dropped it smashing the glass but still in one piece.  How do I back up at this point?

Connect to iTunes on the computer you sync with.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device
    See the Use iTunes section.

  • HT1414 I want to set up a Genius Bar appt

My iPad shuts off, stays off for up to 3 wks at a time. It occasionally slows an error message. This is the 2nd iPad with the same problem. The 1st was replaced several months ago

    Hello Tracydaniel2013,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I see from the title of your post that you wish to setup an appointment at an Apple Retail Store. You can make a Genius Bar reservation at the following link:

    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Add Genius Bar appt to iCal

You'd think this would be a natural. That after making an appointment, you could add it to iCal. A case of Apple missing the boat on interoperability.

Really? How different is an appointment with an Apple Genius than any other appointment that you would have to enter manually?
The incorporation of the appointment data would require an invitation sent by that Apple Store via electronic mail. With a fairly substantial degree of likelihood that an individual setting an appointment would have access to neither iCal nor Mail, it seems that this would not be as much of a 'no-brainer' than it might appear at first glance.

  • Genius Bar Response to 80gb iPod Classic not syncing to iTunes 9.0

Ok so basically I have been having the same problems as every other 80gb iPod classic owner that has been on this discussion board. Ever since I downloaded the new iTunes update, my ipod has been unable to sync to my computer. Now I've tried all the suggested troubleshooting steps (uninstall, restore, reset, different computer, etc) and NOTHING works. Basically when I connect my ipod I get the clicking noise it makes when it connects, however that is quickly followed by the annoying disconnect sound. My ipod does in fact show up in My Computer, but as far as iTunes is concerned, all I get is a window to pop up in the upper left hand of the screen saying "Verifying files". After that toggles through for about 5 min, I get the error message in the bottom right corner saying something along the lines of E: Ipod control could not be saved, etc.
I finally got so frustrated that I made a genius bar appt. To my dismay, I got the exact response that I was expecting. The, otherwise friendly assistant, had no clue what the problem was with my Ipod. I described all my issues and he even tried restoring the ipod, tried a different computer, etc and after about 30 minutes all he could say was that he didn't know what the problem was. His worthless excuse was simply that it looked like I had some corrosion on the bottom of my ipod and so that might have fried a circuit or something. However my ipod was working completely fine before the new itunes update. In fact when I disconnect from my computer, my ipod seems to be working properly (i.e. it responds to my touch, it cycles through the menus, etc), but unfortunatly all my music is gone.
As I'm sure is the case with most Classic owners, I have had mine for about 2 years and so I was of course out of warranty. My only options at this point are to pay ~ $140 to replace the same 80gb ipod or just buck up and pay $300 for the new iPod Touch. Considering I'm still convinced this is Apple's shady business tactic of phasing out the older gen ipods, I think my best bet is to go with the Touch.
God I hate when they get shady like this.
    Good luck to anyone else.

    1. Your drive will retain the "dirty" status until it has been successfully scanned by a disk check utility.
    2. While there are a number of threads concerning this issue, which I've not personally experienced, I suspect that in comparison to the number of users this represents a tiny fraction of the overall user base. This is not to diminish your right to be frustated, but to point out that, while the problem is readily apparent to you, it may not be sufficently widespread to have come to the attention of Apple's iTunes team or present with enough regularity for them to determine the cause and hence begin the process of creating a fix.
Between our family, for example, we have 3 iPod classics, (1 two years old, 2 brand new), a Nano & a 30Gb ipod Video all of which sync fine. Assuming you get no joy with the steps I outlined earlier it might still be worth checking the status of your iPod's hard drive to eliminate that as a possible cause of problems.
Press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod then press *SELECT & REWIND* to enter the diagnostics screen. Select *Manual Tests > IO > HardDrive > HDD > HDDSMARTData*.
For comparison here are my results:
    Retracts: 861
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2097
    Starts/Stops: 856
    Temp: Current 29C
    Temp: Min 10C
    Temp: Max 50C
When finished press SELECT & MENU for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again. If you have any pending secorts that might indicate that there is a fundemental problem with your iPod's hard drive that, while not preventing you using the menus, is hampering iTunes when it tries to update the iPod.

  • Can't make a Genius Bar appointment

I went in to my local Apple store today because my Mac crashed and the message was due to no memory. When they checked it, they said it had to be seen by a Genius Bar tech and to go home and make an online appt. I have done this many times so imagine my surprise at the new website navigation and the absolute impossibility of getting to the Genius Bar page. Apple is doing everything in its power not to provide this service- from blocking out days previously to not allowing customers to make an appt. They want to force me on to the Paid Service option.
How do I make this appointment. Part of the reason I always loved Apple was its superior customer service. Seems that reality is gone.....

    originalewrote:
when was the last time you tried? They have changed things, You  CANNOT schedule a genius bar appt directly anymore. You have to call and they want to charge you for the cal
The last time I made an on-line genius bar appt was November 20, 2014.
So yes you can, unless they changed something in the last 7 days?
I was out of warranty as well,  it was not an issue and I was not charged anything for doing so.
Granted it is more difficult then before, I tried to walk you through it above.  Good luck.  You can always call your store.

  • Why is signing up for genius bar so difficult

I just spent fifteen minutes in an endless loop, trying to sign up for the genius bar at an apple store. Tried calling the store, was told by automated voice that I can only do it online. Tried to sign up online, following instructions (find store, select genius bar) but it just sent me to a page that explains what the genius bar is, and suggests other means of support. Finally got the store by pretending I wanted to buy something, explained it was an itunes problem, and I wanted genius bar, and she said let me route you to the iTunes department and sent me back to Customer Care (for which I would have to pay $29 to solve a problem that is definitely Itunes 12 software related). Fortunately she told me the magic word to get someone at the store: "manager." That person also tried to route me to customer care, until I said, aren't there genius bar people who know Itunes? He admitted there were, so now I have an appointment. I'm an Apple Mac Mini user, have been with apple for decades, but this is ridiculous!

Although we cannot speculate "why", the 'Decision Tree' approach probably indicates that Apple feels that in some cases 'other methods' may be better use of their resources.
I have never failed to get a Genius Bar appt. - answer the questions 'ambiguously' where the 'system' cannot find a match for your statement. As a test one time for another user in your predicament, I put "Blah, blah, blah" in the description field = worked like charm (I stopped short of actually 'making' the reservation)
enjoy your trip to the Apple Store

  • Need to purchase new memory do I go to genius bar?

my computer doesn't have enough memory for Lion, so I need to purchase a 2gb memory which I know is $100, do I need to make a genius bar appt to have it installed?

And you can get RAM cheaper at OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/
    $31.49 instead of $100
It would help if we knew which model MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

  • Has anyone reserved a Genius Bar "Personal Shopping" spot for iPhone?

Anticipating long waits, I reserved an appointment via the Genius Bar for personal shopping assistance on the 19th. Have others done the same?

Today? Hard to imagine anyone doing that. Someone said in a reception thread that he has a Sat appt.

  • Can't make genius bar appointment

    can't make genius bar appointment

I Have the same problem. Unable to make an appt with Genius Bar.

  • Genius Bar or BS Bar?

The GPS on my 3G just up and stopped working about a month ago. No blue dot. Never. It does get he blue circle, I assume using cell site triangulation, but the GPS was not working. Called Apple Support, they agreed something was wrong with device made me appt. with "Genius". Went to Apple store waited 40 minutes, told "Genius" the issue and the answer I get is "Sorry, it's a software glitch, nothing we can do for you." and sent me on my way.... I was there literally 3 minutes. Well my girl blows her top before I could even say anything and demands to see the manager since I we had not heard of any GPS software glitch and it was never mentioned by the support person when I called. The manager happily switch out my 3G for a new one. No more GPS problems.
    Your thoughts on this "Glitch"????

Software glitch? Cloudy days? Jeesh. Sounds more like Genius bar incompetence to me.
My iPhone 3G GPS works fine under 2.1 and 2.2. I doubt very much that clouds attenuate the GPS signal to prevent it from working. When was the last time you heard a dealer tell someone not to use their car navigation on a cloudy day. Hold on, I'm in my house, let me check my location.. yep, a blue blinking dot on the end of my driveway!
I think you did right by asking for the store manager.
P.S. I do know that sometimes it takes about 2-5 minutes for the GPS constellation to triangulate with precision.

  • At a Genius Bar appointment yesterday, we determined that I needed to go to Mountain Lion from Lion.  I purchased Mountain Lion at the Bar, and paused the install so that I could resume from home.  Now I can't find it to resume. Not in Downloads. ?????

When I upgraded to Lion, my Parallels stopped working and I got a Bootcamp error message.  It had worked fine for the prior year.  I upgraded to Parallels 7.  No luck. At the Genius Bar, the Genius uninstalled Bootcamp.  No luck.  I still get "The Boot Camp partition /dev/diskOs4 used by Hard Drive 1 is missing."
Another Genius suggested upgrading to Mountain Lion.  While at the Bar, I purchased Mountain Lion and then we paused the install so that I could resume it at home.  Once I got home, I can't find the Mountain Lion installer to resume.  It's not in the Downloads file.  Any clue?
My business programs all run on Windows, so I have to get it operating.  The Genius Bar isn't much help.  Does anyone know how to get Mountain Lion installed?  How to get Parallels working?

The "Geniuses" (and I use that word in sarcasm) at the Bar are lying to you. Upgrading from Lion to Mt Lion will not fix whatever problems you are having. In fact it will most likely make them worse.
If you want to try installing Mt Lion to fix the problems you are having you will need to open the Mac App Store link in your Dock, Login to your Apple ID account for the MAS and go to your Purchases area. Mt Lion should be in there and you will be able to do a proper download. Once you either set your Mac into sleep or shut down and then left the internet connection at the Bar all record of that download was lost. So you will need to restart it again from the beginning, like described above.
    Good Luck

  • I stumped a Genius Bar guy on two iPhone points

I recently went to the Soho Apple store and went over all my issues that I have with my iPhone. Most of them I have seen discussed over and over since the release (see my long list below). However here are two issues I have not seen discussed that are highly problematic. When I brought them up to a Genius Bar guy, he said I had found all the issues he knew of and didn't even know about these two:
First, from your contacts, if you click on an address to look it up in Maps, if that adress contains a Fl.#, Flr.# Fl # Fl. # Floor # or anything like that, Maps cannot find the address. If you delete the Floor number out of your contact, Maps locates the address without issue. Living in NYC, I have a lot of addresses with floor numbers, so this is really annoying.
Second, if you are on the phone, you cannot edit an existing contact, or create a new one. Why this is the case completely baffles me. Essentially, I have to write down someone's info if they give it to me over the phone and then add it after I've hung up.
I hope apple takes note of these two biggies and also...my long list of issues:
    No copy and paste
USB recognition in iTunes is buggy, though better since updates
Cannot txt to mutliple addresses or forward txts
    No picture texting
Freezes and crashes of all kinds, though better since updates
No search feature for address book; Spotlight please??
Email doesn't flip sideways like Safari
General volume is too low for phone, external speakers, ringer and alerts
Calender is not color coded for categories
    No Flash
All that said, I love my iPhone. I just hope Apple goes the distance in raising it from a B+ to and A+ device.
Note: I recently went to Scotland for a week. I texted quite a bit, made a few phone calls here and there and had $24 in additional charges on my bill. Not too bad. Just be sure to keep airplane mode on whenever you can, don't use Safari or any web based widgets and you shouldn't ring up a big bill overseas.

if that adress contains a Fl.#, Flr.# Fl # Fl. # Floor # or anything like that, Maps cannot find the address.
Google Maps used to have the same problem with Suite, St, #, etc, didn't it? Those seem okay now.
For fun, I just tried your "Flr#" variations using Google Maps for Windows Mobile (which is almost the same as iPhone but without animated pushpins). That version also fails to find the address... unless it's spelled out explicitly as "Floor", which works.
So it appears to be a Google problem. We should try the direct Google web service to confirm.
PS. So I started thinking. Hey, Google has a big office in New York. They even work on Maps there:
    http://www.google.com/support/jobs/bin/static.py?page=why-ny-ny.html
So don't they ever look up themselves? Wouldn't they figure out that "Flr" was a problem? Haha, no. Because their address is listed as:
    76 Ninth Avenue
    4th Floor
    New York, NY 10011
With "Floor" spelled out. Which works

  • Crash Restarts - Varying Opinions from Genius Bar

I'm experiencing intermittent Restarts and have been in to the Genius Bars several times and get different opinions on the issue. I've been told my hard drive was going, so I relaced it. Didn't fix it. I was then told it was a software issue caused by Dropbox, so I totally uninstalled it. Didn't help.
I was also told that my video card might be the problem by one Genius Bar (haven't replaced this yet), but another Bar insisted it was software. I don't know who to believe or what to do to fix it.
I've brought in to a Genius Bar print outs of my logs and also my Mac Pro another time and they ran tests to push my computer and that's when I was told my drive and possibly my video card were a problem, but at this time software was not said to be the issue. I got that diagnosis after replacing my hard drive.
Here is the crash log from the Restart that just happened a little while ago, followed by data from my Kernal Log and System Log from the Console. If anyone can give me insight into what the issue is I would be completely grateful...

I just had a kernal panic this time and while I don't know how to read these reports, I do see Geforce mentioned and wonder if I need to replace my video card as one of the Genius Bar reps said.
Grant. When my Mac Pro restarted to which you were replying to, I was in the middle of using DiskWarrior to rebuild my Backup drive. That's probably what the "alsoft" reference refers to.
Regarding Parallels and USB. Could you help me understand what your observation means? I haven't launched Parallels in a year so I really could uninstall it. I rarely need to do any Windows work.
Also do you have any insight into what the USB issues are and what I should do to resolve them?
Here is the crash report from the Kernal Panic I just experienced:
Thanks so much for any insight into what I need to do to rectify this/these problems.
    Best,
    Steven
