Genius Bar Service Letter

Last week I got my phone replaced by the Apple Store in DC. How ever the service confirmation letter provided by the store did not include the IMEI number of the phone that I got replaced. I need that to be rewritten and e-mailed to me.

You will need to contact the store directly - you are not addressing apple here.  We are users just like you.
Good Luck

  • Any recourse for poor "genius bar" service?

We recently took my MacBook Air to a Genius Bar in NYC after the keyboard inexplicably stopped working. Were given a work order repair estimate of $280.
We were then told that they found liquid damage that would cost in the vicinity of $400 to fix. This was a suspicious conclusion as I've been fanatical about keeping it safe, but I figured it must've been my mistake.
We could ill-afford the $400 at the time, so decided to use it with an auxilliary keyboard instead. Then we discovered that we couldn't even turn it on as they had apparently switched it off at the shop; previously we'd been keeping it charged and using the sleep function, so that it would come back to life just by opening it or using the touchpad.
So we hauled it back, expecting that we would have to swallow the fee and get it repaired to even turn the thing back on again. Only this time we were told that the repair would cost $700+, and what's more that this was the original price quoted. It most certainly was not, and now I'm wondering what else they lied about.
Between this, the waste of money and effort that was MobileMe, and other growing problems with both iPhone and our laptops, I'm about to call time on my long relationship with Apple. But I'm not well pleased at being bamboozled by a spotty midtown jobsworth, to say nothing of the total loss of my expensive machine. But what to do when Apple turn a notoriously deaf ear to complaints?

Did you ask to speak to a manager at the store? Try another store (just asking)? You can also call Apple Customer Support and discuss the issue with them. Their phone is 800-676-2775.

  • Aperture ate my picture files and they are not recoverable.  The guy at the Genius Bar told me to Trash the App, empty Trash, then go to Purchases and reinstall.  But Purchases says it is "Installed" so it does not let me download it again.  HELP!!!!

Aperture ate my picture files and they are not recoverable.  The guy at the Genius Bar told me to Trash the App, empty Trash, then go to Purchases and reinstall.  But Purchases says it is "Installed" so it does not let me download it again.  HELP!!!!

I typed Aperture into Spotlight and sure enough it did show up.
It looks like it is supposed to be in Apps.
    But it is not there.
So I clicked on the spotlight Aperture and it opened up the App!!!!
But I do not know where it is to move it!
    How can I find it?
While Aperture is running and you are seeing it in the Dock, ctrl-click (or right click) the Dock icon.
You will see a contextual menu. Click on "Options", then select "Show in Finder".
And check the "keep in Dock" mark, so you will not lose it from the Dock.

  • Apple Service At Genius Bar

I recieved an iPhone 5 for my birthday last week, and on the same day my mother put a horrid deep scratch right down the screen!
I booked a genius session in my local apple store, and without any hesitation or questioning they replaced my iPhone with a brand new one!
I could not believe how great this service is, and I feel like i should express it on here!
If anyone else has scratched or smashed their iphone 5 after just purchasing it, I strongly reccomend you go to the genius bar!
Great job Apple, I am very impressed!

    Awesome!!!

  • Rant about Apple Service and Genius Bar!

I bought my daughter a MacBook a week ago as a graduation gift for college. She had an '02 Ibook with a logic board that went out over 3 times. We took the plunge and bought the new computer. It's great and she loves it. Took the Ibook to the Applestore as they will transfer her old files to her new computer within one week without a charge. Initially, we were told we had to buy Pro
care for $99.00 for this service, but one of the sales clerks mentioned, in passing, that files are transferable from one Mac to another within 7 days. We literally had our charge card in the hands of the sales guy who looked rather embarassed when we learned that this was a free service. Do these guys get some sort of commission on these "add-ons?". So, after several so-called experts on the process, we were finally hooked up with one of their techy guys who said they'd remove the hard drive from the Ibook and create a folder on her new hard drive with her old files. It was going to take 2 days to do the transfer...
After 3 days, we called the store. They pulled the paperwork and said the transfer was complete. My daughter dashed in rush hour traffic to get her computer as she has finals this week. She brings the computer home without checking, and when opened....nothing..nada...no files...exactly the same as when we dropped it off. We called the store...too busy to take our call...said they'd call us back. After two hours, they called. Suggested we type in a name of a file that she knew was on the computer. She did...zero results. No files. no pics, no nothing.
Okay...my rant. We have to take the computer back, and no doubt, they'll end up keeping it for another 3 days or so. Should I insist they do the transfer while we wait?
IMO, most of the staff I've worked with at the Apple stores I've visited have been a bit "odd". Yes, they are techy, but I can't seem to find a simple answer to a simple question. Most of them act flustered and the files transfer should not have been a big deal. Everytime I turned around, I was being directed to the "add" ons. I did buy Applecare, but no, not interested in .Mac. I have no need for that program.
I have owned Apples and Mac for over 20 years. I am no expert, but I often find myself avoiding the sales staff. I do a lot of my shopping on-line....however, this was something I could not do myself, due to the logic board being out.

Okay..so the "Genius" Bar guy tells us that the firewire cord will fail once the logic board starts to go out...( we can boot the Ibook up for about 3 minutes before the horizontal lines appear) However, originally we were told that that shouldn't be a problem. So, I fiddle around last night after talking to two managers at the Apple store convincing them that NO, the file transfer was never completed as requested despite ther insistence that the files must be on her new Mac book. Believe me, we searched the entire harddrive, and since the computer was new, it was easy to see that her 900 pics were NOT on the new computer...
Anyway, voilla...the Ibook hard drive showed up with the firewire cord and I was able to transfer most of what she wanted. It took me a long time and it was tedious, but she got her pics and files and now we don't have to return to the Apple store. The manager, of course, apologized, but offered no other explanation other than "I don't know what happened".
Okay...so they missed the boat. It's not the end of the world, but it does serve as a reminder to double check one's service/paperwork and computer prior to leaving the Apple store....

  • Can I get my Macbook Pro just checked out and tuned up at the genius bar?

I'm having a hard time getting my questions answered. Basically I've had my Macbook Pro for four and a half years, but it's still doing mostly fine. It's just showing it's age slightly I think, with more spinning wheels than usual and odd things like the date is usually set to 1999 when I turn the computer on, but it rights itself in a few minutes. Also most the time when I plug it in it says it's not charging and I have to try multiple times. None of this is a huge deal, it's just that I really need the computer to last me preferably at least another year, so I worry about it a bit. I do take good care of it though. I'm about to move out of the country for a year, so I'd like to get it just checked out and perhaps tuned up a bit so that any problems are taken care of and it's in the best shape before I move away. I'd like to make a genius bar appointment, but the closest Apple store is a two hour drive from my home, so I don't want to go into it not having any idea how much it will cost or if they'll even be able to do what I'm hoping in the span of a single workday. I really don't want to have to drive back later to pick it up or have it sent off somewhere to be repaired, although if it does have serious problems I'd be willing to do that. I'd just like to know going in to it what the price range is likely to be like. I don't want to make the drive to the Apple store and have them tell me it's going to be a few hundred dollars just to have my computer looked over. And I don't even know if they offer that service, let alone if they can do it in a single afternoon. I've tried calling the store and conversations with the automated person really are not helpful. He just tells me to go online and make a reservation, and I can't figure out how to get my questions about cost and service answered.
Also, am I being foolish hoping my four and a half year old Macbook will last at least another year or two? I have no idea what the "life expectancy" is for these things. I know nothing really about computers at all, so forgive my ignorance.
Any help and insight is very much appreciated.

The genius bar technicians can check your MBP for possible hardware problems and specific software issues that you may have.  The diagnosis will be free.  Any extensive repairs will not be free.
If you have minor software problems, you essentially will have to deal with them yourself.  Examine these two comprehensive documents for possible problem definition and solutions.  If you encounter problems that you are unable to cope with, start a new discussion and there will be persons willing to assist you in solving them.

  • I have a six months old iPhone 5s, it discharges the battery in 1/2 day without extensive use, 5 trips to the Genius Bar to no avail... Frustrated.. Ready to get rid of the phone, very disappointed in apple support!!

I have a six months old iPhone 5s that I use and have to use for work purposes, I have for a approximate battery life of seven or eight hours.
I went to the Genius Bar on five occasions and did not receive substantial help. I was told that I would have some applications crashing in the background but was unable to be told which ones they were. The phone is still on the warranty, but it's Apple tells me that it is not the hardware but my usage. I compared it to some of my colleagues and none of them has a battery problem like I do. I feel like I am left with a product that is not stand up to its specifications, and as a customer being totally left alone with a smart phone that does not even last through a workday. Any suggestions how to get through to Apple with this?? I was always very impressed with Apple's customer service and care up until now, obviously. Now Im ready to jump ship...

Thought it had worked but soon found out it had not.
after further days of trying finally, solved it for me Yesterday.
turned off notifications when locked, and bingo, wow.
i have not turned off iCloud but location services are also off.
best thing to do I found was keep checking your usage, settings, general, usage, and flip down to bottom, if the standby and usage are similar there is a problem, if there is a big difference then all is ok. Just keep turning things off and on until the difference is very apparent.
something on my phone was keeping the phone alive even when turned off, and I think this was the phone repeatedly trying to update continually.
to me this is definitely down to the iOS, my wife has exactly same phone and iOS but hers doesn't have any problem and the battery lasts for days.
the guy at the Genius Bar told me to restore the phone via iTunes, not iCloud. This is because iCloud remembers the exact info from your phone and simply reinstates it when you restore, and this includes the iOS too.
when I get home from holidays that's what I'll do, or wait for iOS 8 in few weeks. But I'm so pleased I finally made it work, I was beginning to think ditch the phone and buy Samsung.
anyway anyone out there please try my final solution and let me know if it works for you?

  • Is it really true?  Genius Bar installed a new hard drive - lost my website

I see from reading these pages that an iWeb site is actually stored in the Applications support folder. Last week, I took my MacBook to a Genius Bar because of hard drive problems. They determined I needed a new hard drive (which surprised me.) I had backed up everything, I thought, but specifically asked that they save my user files (my name:Sites, Pictures, etc.) which I guess they did.
Why oh why didn't the Apple dude know that I wouldn't be able to retrieve my website into iWeb after this??? Is it possible he really didn't know about the Applications support location and this terrible quirk with iWeb?
Sorry for the rant, but geez. I guess I now have to remake my entire website. Yes, I will cut and paste and drop, etc., but still. What a major hassle, which could have and should have been avoided by the Genius.
Any suggestions? Is it possible they still have my old hard drive sitting around somewhere?

Is it possible they still have my old hard drive sitting around somewhere?
Call and ask them. It's doubtful, however.
I guess I now have to remake my entire website
    Yep sorry
Why oh why didn't the Apple dude know that I wouldn't be able to retrieve my website
Most likely because they simply did not know. They probably backed up everything else on the user folder like you stated... Music, Movies, Documents, Sites, Pictures etc. but not the user Library folder. Bum deal it's always a good idea to educate yourself beforehand when important files are at stake and avoid the temptation of relying on others' services despite the highly regarded reputation you might have inaccurately perceived. Hopefully the rant is over. Sorry for your loss but if you really want to let Apple know then it is recommended that you send feedback to Apple by visiting this link.
Oh hey and welcome to the forum. Good luck.

  • Genius bar frustrations

Last week I posted a question on this board about who to complain to regarding the customer service (or lack there of) I have been receiving from my local genius bar. It can be found here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2081904&tstart=0 .
Here is a chronology of the events thus far:
    7/3
Diagnosis - I brought my MBP in to the West Nyack, New York Apple store. Using the Nvidia 9600M GT processor, the black areas on the screen would flicker a red snow and the screen itself would pulse. The genius spent a total of 5 minutes looking at my computer while I was there for at least 45. He deduced it was the monitor that needed to be replaced. I am a photographer and needed the computer to process the photos so I held onto it for a few days and dropped it off that Tuesday.
    7/7
Dropped off MBP at the Apple store. The geniuses claimed a repair time of 3-5 days but it would probably take less time.
    7/10
Called for a status update. They said all the geniuses were busy and that they'd call back. Later in the day I got a return call. They said the problem wasn't the monitor and that it was the GPU that had failed and they'd have to replace the logic board. They claimed 1 day more.
    7/11
I called to talk to a genius to have a conversation with them about my computer. They said they'd call back. This time, much later in the day, I got a call back saying that neither solution had worked and they'd have to replace my computer with a new one.
    7/13
I called again for a status report. They said they'd call back. So to get some answers I physically went down there. I spoke to a manager named Sharon who seemed more interested in getting me out of the store then helping me out. I asked her when to expect my computer. Sharon said she didn't know. So I asked if they could supply me with a tracking number so I could know when to expect it. She said she'd email it to me. I promptly went home and took to the internet to see if anyone had any insight on how to deal with the problem.
    7/15
Discovered a call from a costumer service rep named Brett on voice mail. He said he read my post and he would like to talk to me about it. He gave me his phone number and email address. So I wrote him an email detailing my account thus far. In it I mentioned that as of that time I still had no contact from the Apple store.
    7/16
At 10 AM I called the store to speak to Sharon the Manager. To find out something, anything, about my computer. She wasn't there and they said she would call back. 4 and a half hours later I called them back. After roughly 5 minutes on hold the person that answered the phone returned and said Sharon was in an interview. This really felt like she was ducking me. The girl on the phone said she was familiar with my situation and said that she does not know when my computer will arrive, and said that Apple does not let their stores know that information.
This sounds like pure bull. I can not believe that apple would not inform their stores as to the whereabouts of $3000 dollars worth of merchandise. If that is the policy then there must be millions of untracked devices around the country. Hardly a sound business model in this recession.
Anyway, Grace told me that Applecare would have my answers and she would be willing to connect me. The woman on the phone (LeAnne) told me that I have a special person handling my case. His name is Tim. I was given his phone number and a Case Number and told to call him. I got his voice mail and left a message to call me back. I also called Brett for some information as well. I also left a message on his voice mail.
    7/20
Spent a good part of the afternoon trying to contact somebody. Discovered a voice mail left on my phone left by Brett. He said that he wanted to touch base with me but will be away for the next 3 weeks and apparently my case has been transferred to Tim. I called Tim and got his voice mail. So I called the store and asked to talk to a genius. They said they'd call back. I got fed up called back a little while later and asked for Sharon. They said she'd call back. While I was trying to contact Tim again. They called and left 2 voicemails. They said they didn't have my computer. So I called the store back to get some answers and they said a genius would call me back. This time I insisted that I actually speak to him. After some time on hold I finally got in touch with their Admin. He said that my computer had been ordered but they have not received any information that it has been shipped. By this time they have had it for 13 days. He assured me that I would be called when they receive notice that it's been shipped, though I doubt it. After I got off the phone, not reassured that anything was being done on my case, I called Tim again and got his voicemail.
    7/21
Called Tim again, got his voicemail. No contact from the Apple store.
I don't know what to do anymore. I tried going through the proper channels and I am at wit's end. I am in dire need of this computer as I am currently taking a 5 week class and can't complete the coursework. I have missed 1 week so far flushing a whole lot of money down the drain as higher education is not cheap. I also have been given the task to make a book of photos chronicling the first year of my niece's life that I was supposed to present on her birthday. That is next week, and I will not be able to complete it in time for the party.
I guess my question is, what do I do now? That computer is a major contributor to my livelihood. The only time I got some result was when I took my problem to the internet. Has anyone out there had a similar experience? How did you resolve it?

I have never had a good experience with a Genius. I've ALWAYS have had a good experience calling up AppleCare though. In fact, my experience with AppleCare was above and beyond what is needed. My experience with a Genius is their title goes to their head which means you are always wrong even when you are right.
I would ignore the Apple Store and go straight to Tim. I would mention to him the Apple Store situation, and say you don't want to deal with them anymore. It sounds like you are getting too much of a runaround, and you really need to only deal with one point of contact.
Here's an example of a Genius debacle I've had to deal with:
My friend's 2g iPhone one day just stopped booting up. She asked me what I could do, and I asked her if it was still under warranty. She mentioned it was, so I said I'd go with her to the Apple Store since it was literally 5 minutes away. We arrive and the Genius spent 30 minutes doing every test he could think of and declared the hard drive dead and she'd need to get a new iPhone. Since I've never used an iPhone before myself, I couldn't refute his claim... so she bought the 3GS and told me I could have her older one.
I plugged the old one into my macbook pro and iTunes said it wanted to restore it. In 5 minutes it was working perfectly with the latest OS. I have no explanation why it took 30 minutes for the "Genius" to upsell her on a phone, but he certainly proved useless for her issue.
Here's an example of my experience with AppleCare:
My old Macbook (White) had a crack on the case from standard use (I babied it, so no way it was user error). I called AppleCare and they sent me box to ship it for repair. I got a call asking if I was ready for pickup an hour later. That same day, they had a guy come by and take my boxed laptop. The next morning at 10:30am I get a knock on the door. From California to Tennessee back to California in less than 24 hours! No one I talk to believes this, but it's true.
I can almost guarantee if I took it to an Apple Store and had a "Genius" handle it my laptop-less time would have been a week. Plus, I would have been talked to like a child who didn't know anything. Instead I talked to an extremely nice lady on the phone and she handled everything for me better than any customer service I've ever had for any company. A day later I get a call from her supervisor asking me if everything was handled well lol.

  • Genius bar appt.

Why is it so dang hard to make a genius bar appt.?  I have spoken with people over the phone with an issue but it still keeps happening. I go to make an appt. and it won't let me. It make me go through the phone system and Schedule a time in talk on the phone. Excuse me, I have done all that. I am sign in and everything but It still won't give me the option of making a direct appt. I go to the store web site that has helped before.  I am so confused!  Help!

they are likely trying to weed out the "simpler" problems/issues to save the "real" issues for the Genius Bar... If it doesn't give you an option to "Bring in for service [Genius Bar], then just choose a different "reason" for your issue... choose Hardware Problem > Computer won't start up normally or turn on (or similar) and you can just explain your situation at the appointment to the GENIUS (snickers! why wait!) once you are there... It likely won't cause any real problems doing so this way.
I too have had a HECK of a HARD time even FINDING the link to the G.Bar signup page with time slots available at the Genius Bar(s)... seems like they are making it harder to find (on purpose of course, it used to be simple to book an appointment).... leaving a portion or majority of all calls to the Phone and Online Tech Support teams....
Saving money for AAPL... less genius bar appointments means less geniuses to pay. Less Geniuses to pay means more money for Apple, the true "Genius" of it all.
Lol but seriously, either they are becoming overwhelmed with GBar appts., OR They are saving money with the same amount (or less) of Genius Bar appointments... OR their stores have gotten too crowded with Apple's fanboys and fangirls and they are trying to clear up more space for people buying new Apple products and accessories... which is the other (or THE MAIN) point of the Apple Store's existence...
Hope I answered your question... thanks for dealing with my long-winded and round-about answers!
    Cheers!
    An Apple a Day...

  • I stumped a Genius Bar guy on two iPhone points

I recently went to the Soho Apple store and went over all my issues that I have with my iPhone. Most of them I have seen discussed over and over since the release (see my long list below). However here are two issues I have not seen discussed that are highly problematic. When I brought them up to a Genius Bar guy, he said I had found all the issues he knew of and didn't even know about these two:
First, from your contacts, if you click on an address to look it up in Maps, if that adress contains a Fl.#, Flr.# Fl # Fl. # Floor # or anything like that, Maps cannot find the address. If you delete the Floor number out of your contact, Maps locates the address without issue. Living in NYC, I have a lot of addresses with floor numbers, so this is really annoying.
Second, if you are on the phone, you cannot edit an existing contact, or create a new one. Why this is the case completely baffles me. Essentially, I have to write down someone's info if they give it to me over the phone and then add it after I've hung up.
I hope apple takes note of these two biggies and also...my long list of issues:
    No copy and paste
USB recognition in iTunes is buggy, though better since updates
Cannot txt to mutliple addresses or forward txts
    No picture texting
Freezes and crashes of all kinds, though better since updates
No search feature for address book; Spotlight please??
Email doesn't flip sideways like Safari
General volume is too low for phone, external speakers, ringer and alerts
Calender is not color coded for categories
    No Flash
All that said, I love my iPhone. I just hope Apple goes the distance in raising it from a B+ to and A+ device.
Note: I recently went to Scotland for a week. I texted quite a bit, made a few phone calls here and there and had $24 in additional charges on my bill. Not too bad. Just be sure to keep airplane mode on whenever you can, don't use Safari or any web based widgets and you shouldn't ring up a big bill overseas.

if that adress contains a Fl.#, Flr.# Fl # Fl. # Floor # or anything like that, Maps cannot find the address.
Google Maps used to have the same problem with Suite, St, #, etc, didn't it? Those seem okay now.
For fun, I just tried your "Flr#" variations using Google Maps for Windows Mobile (which is almost the same as iPhone but without animated pushpins). That version also fails to find the address... unless it's spelled out explicitly as "Floor", which works.
So it appears to be a Google problem. We should try the direct Google web service to confirm.
PS. So I started thinking. Hey, Google has a big office in New York. They even work on Maps there:
    http://www.google.com/support/jobs/bin/static.py?page=why-ny-ny.html
So don't they ever look up themselves? Wouldn't they figure out that "Flr" was a problem? Haha, no. Because their address is listed as:
    76 Ninth Avenue
    4th Floor
    New York, NY 10011
With "Floor" spelled out. Which works

  • Crash Restarts - Varying Opinions from Genius Bar

I'm experiencing intermittent Restarts and have been in to the Genius Bars several times and get different opinions on the issue. I've been told my hard drive was going, so I relaced it. Didn't fix it. I was then told it was a software issue caused by Dropbox, so I totally uninstalled it. Didn't help.
I was also told that my video card might be the problem by one Genius Bar (haven't replaced this yet), but another Bar insisted it was software. I don't know who to believe or what to do to fix it.
I've brought in to a Genius Bar print outs of my logs and also my Mac Pro another time and they ran tests to push my computer and that's when I was told my drive and possibly my video card were a problem, but at this time software was not said to be the issue. I got that diagnosis after replacing my hard drive.
Here is the crash log from the Restart that just happened a little while ago, followed by data from my Kernal Log and System Log from the Console. If anyone can give me insight into what the issue is I would be completely grateful...

I just had a kernal panic this time and while I don't know how to read these reports, I do see Geforce mentioned and wonder if I need to replace my video card as one of the Genius Bar reps said.
Grant. When my Mac Pro restarted to which you were replying to, I was in the middle of using DiskWarrior to rebuild my Backup drive. That's probably what the "alsoft" reference refers to.
Regarding Parallels and USB. Could you help me understand what your observation means? I haven't launched Parallels in a year so I really could uninstall it. I rarely need to do any Windows work.
Also do you have any insight into what the USB issues are and what I should do to resolve them?
Here is the crash report from the Kernal Panic I just experienced:
Thanks so much for any insight into what I need to do to rectify this/these problems.
    Best,
    Steven

  • What should I do; My Macbook Pro Retina 13" performing worse after a visit to the Genius Bar.

To give a little background; my MacBook is my baby. I keep it as safe and clean as I possibly can. The only damage that has come to it is a tiny dent in the left corner of the screen, when my little sister took it, ran, and dropped it on a wooden floor. It's my pride and joy, and I would never mistreat my computer. I don't loan it to friends, I always know where it is, and I do my best to keep it from dying. The only thing I do which is problematic is not shutting it down often enough; I usually keep it on for days at a time, I don't sleep much and spend a lot of time on my computer, but for such a high price, I was expecting that it could handle it. Onto the problem.
My computer was having minor problems with the trackpad and keyboard and had been since I'd bought it, but I hadn't been noticing it much until recently. I remember my mom pointed it out when I first got it and I told her she was crazy. I suspected a little hardware problem that my AppleCare would cover. When I went in to the Genius Bar, they opened up my computer and told me I had serious water damage. I was shocked as I'd never brought my computer close to water; I don't bring it in the bathroom, so no condensation, I have never spilled on it, I don't usually eat or drink around it, etc. I was given very minimal detail or explanation, simply told over and over that it was water damage, and they told me my AppleCare had been deactivated, which made me even MORE upset. The store told me it would cost almost $1000 to fix, at which point I was about to cry since that's almost the cost of my computer. I was going to wait until I got home to get an opinion from my hometown Apple Store, as they've known me for a long time and I was upset with the unhelpful service at the Genius Bar around my college.
My current problem is that I don't think I can wait until May. My computer has been acting up ever since the Genius Bar visit earlier this month, my screen is shaking and the color is going in and out, sound is acting strangely, and I'm really, really upset since none of these problems existed before my visit. I didn't feel it was a problem until recently, since it was pretty scattered and I felt like if I ignored it until I got home in mid-May, I could get it fixed then. Now, I feel as though something was jostled or screwed with while they were checking my computer and it's causing me a lot of problems, problems that are interfering with my use of this otherwise awesome device. I really love my MacBook, it's the best computer I've had, but I am at my wits end.
AppleCare is insurance, and I don't understand how they could take it away for something that I have no control over. When I bought AppleCare, I was told it would cover any damage that happened to the hardware or software of my computer, which is the whole reason I bought it! I wouldn't have wasted money on it if I knew this was a way to take the responsibility of fixing my computer away from Apple! I am beyond angry with the service I received, the "rules" of AppleCare, and the performance of my computer after the visit. I can barely type this since my screen refuses to stay still or one color! I was having absolutely no screen problems before this visit!!!
This is my last resort; I may return to the Genius Bar sometime next week for a reassessment. I am extremely upset with the service I have received and the new problems arising. This computer is barely seven/eight months old. It should NOT be having these problems. I can't help but think it was a manufacturing error and I was given an incorrect diagnosis. As a final, desperate cry for help, I thought I'd turn to the support forum for advice; is there anything you guys think I should be doing or any way I can possibly fix this problem myself/without Apple since apparently I have no insurance even though I paid $250 for problems like this to be covered?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Hold the Power button until your Mac turns off, and turn it on again. As you tried to install a firmware update, plug the MacBook to its charger before turning it on.
Note that firmware updates are installed in the next startup, so don't worry about this, as the update hasn't been installed yet.
Respecting to other freezes, it may indicate a hardware problem. Check if the same freezes happen in the future

  • I dropped my Macbook Pro and now the battery is swollen, should I bring it to the genius bar?

My Macbook Pro fell off my bed (approx. 3ft) and dented the left side of the front left corner on the battery meter. Besides the damage everything seemed okay for a little while until I kept getting a erratic curser track pad. I kept cleaning it thinking some dirty or oil may of got on it or in the edges, but long story short I found out my battery is swollen and thats the reason for the erratic curser. The drop and dent impacted the battery causing it to swell. I feel that I just need a new battery. I purchased my macbook from the apple store and still have applecare. However I've researched online a bit and saw some people posted that if you drop your macbook, Apple will void my coverage. I also read that when people have had a swollen battery and applecare, they just brought it into the Genius bar and they went to the back and brought them a new battery. I've been super nervous to go see them as I've spent the extra bucks on Applecare and did not get any use of it. If anyone has had this issue or knows about it, please let me know!!

    Yes !
I would take it in before it gets worse and breaks something.

  • Will Apple Genius Bar run Diagnostic tests on my computer or do I need to set up a special appointment?

I got my Mac OSX with Lion about 9 months ago. Two months after I bought it, it crashed. Apple gave no direct explanation and ended up wiping the computer. Two months after that it happended again. That time they gave me a knew hard drive but they still didn't give me an explanation. Then recenty it crashed (kernal panicked) after I downloaded the thunderbolt application. That time apple was able to restore everything.
Unfortunately, my computer is now showing many of the same symptoms (slow loading, safari freezing, applications needing to be forced quit...etc) as it did before it crashed the first two times. I should mention that when I say "crashed" I mean my computer wouldn't turn on again. Now I am afraid to turn my computer off or even let it go to sleep. I know this isn't good for it but I don't know what else to do.
So my question is, will Apple Genius Bar run some diagnostic tests for me or give me a special lesson? Or do I need to pay for a special lesson? I just want a trained person to run some diagnostics and go through the basics of updating, shutting down, and restarting my computer with me. That way if anything goes wrong they see it first hand.
One more thing, could it be something I am doing. I have downloaded Flash Player but only from the Flash website. But I have heard Flash/Mac problems. Or is there anything else I could be doing or downloading?

With Apple you Always Need to Make an Appointment. Otherwise they will turn you away. Even if the place is empty.
