Genius Mix Cover Artwork Spreading Like A Virus!

Hello, there.
I am using an iPod Touch 4g running iOS 4.3.3. This is syncing to a Windows 7 sp1 machine running iTunes 10.4.1.10. For some reason, every time I sync my iPod to my computer, the cover art used for Genius Mixes replaces some of the cover art on things like music and podcasts. I have tried a restore--the problem fixed itself for the first sync, then upon the next sync, the genius mix artwork is randomly scattered across my music library.
I am SUCH a perfectionist that this bothers me. I am also such a perfectionist that I KNOW that ALL of my music and podcasts have correctly assigned cover art in iTunes. Moreso, my iPad displays my media's images perfectly fine, no matter how many times I sync it.
What's fun is that the ones that aren't displaying correctly are USUALLY newly sync'd stuff. After that, it's completely random in both distribution and quantity.
I will post some example images below.
If I un-sync and re-sync the media, the problem rights itself... until the next sync, where it's back to square one. This is problematic simply because I have almost 13 gigs of media to be sync'd. This takes quite while to delete and resync.
From my always-spot-on, infallible hunches, I assume this to be a problem with the ever-buggy iTunes 10.4, or if my iPod's image cache is on the fritz or something. I'd much prefer the former.
Just looking for thoughts/input/confirmation, or a cure-all fix that doesn't involve the words "wait", "for", "an", and "update".
Thanks!

Now that I've posted this, I'm noticing the "More Like This" sidebard up there. Glad to know that I'm not alone in this.

  • Audiobooks show Genius mixes cover art

Unsure if this is correct category, my apologies if not.
I have a problem with my iPhone 3GS where I see random Genius mixes cover art when I am viewing an Audiobook.
Thumbnails of the Audiobook work fine but when I click on my Audiobook to Play/Pause window I see the Genius mixes cover art images.
Anyone know this problem? please provide me with details to fix this issue.
    many many thanks.

I have the same problem. I download books from Audible and the covers are OK on my computer but now 4 of the books have the same artwork and a couple of my albums have the same book cover as their artwork. How can I rectify this?

  • Since I love the Genius-Mixes I'd really like to convert them into a playlist that I can also play on my iPod-Nano.  Is there a solution?

Have you tried resetting your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home

  • 1st gen showing genius mix covers for regular albums in cover flow

This problem recently happened. On my cover flow for albums, the covers for genius mixes are displayed for some albums, even though they have the correct album art in itunes. By genius mix covers i mean like the four squares with a different album in them. I don't understand. I already turned off genius thinking it had something to do with it but it's still happening. It started with only two albums but now it's spreading like a virus.

I have the same problem. The wrong art only shows up for me when I'm on the iPod in Cover Flow. On iTunes Cover Flow the artwork is right. I tried deleting the album art for one such album, but the Genius Mix album still shows up on the iPod Cover Flow. I disabled Genius, and it did not fix it. I'm now about to restore my iPod and re-sync it to see if that solves it.

  • Basic Questions about Genius Mixes vs Genius Playlists

I'm new to the Genius feature of iTunes, and I would just like a clarification. Please confirm and deny this basic understanding of what I think I've learned about how Genius works.
In another thread that I read, I think that it was mentioned that there is a difference between what Apple calls a "Genius Mix" and a "Genius Playlist." That distinction was lost on me in Apple's documentation, but someone here mentioned that they are not the same thing, which explained why, during iTunes' initial creation of Genius Mixes I could discover no corresponding Genius Playlist(s).
From what I can gather, Genius Playlists are the song lists which I, a user, can create in iTunes by selecting any song in my library as the seed and clicking on the Genius button. Those song lists can then be used as the basis for playlists which I can create and add to other playlists that I can create without using the Genius feature. Right?
In contrast, Genius Mixes are song lists that Apple generates over which I have no control and apparently cannot generate a playlist that I can save, for I cannot see which songs are included in any of the twelve various mixes (based on genres in my library) that Apple creates. Is that correct, or am I missing something here?
Ideally, I guess that I'd like to be able to see what songs are coming up in the Genius Mixes. I'd like to know if there are some hidden commands to allow me to generate such a list, which must be in a database somewhere in iTunes, that I can easily access, or not. But, if that is not possible, let me know, then I'll just relax and take what comes randomly as a surprise.
I guess that a question related to this might be: Are the Genius Mixes which iTunes generates fixed, in the sense that everytime I open iTunes, any given mix will start over at the first song its presumably invisible, inaccessible list? Or, does iTunes shuffle the deck of my Genius Mixes each time it loads? Since I apparently have no way to see the items in any Genius Mix, how can I ever know how many items in any given genre's mix? How will I ever get to the end of that mix?

Thanks for the dialogue, guys. You've both filled in some key pieces that were missing from my previously unsophisticated use of iTunes.
Until dknightd mentioned the iTunes DJ technique, I had not tried that feature out. What a great feature to use all by itself, as well as a complement to the Genius function!
My initial exploration of the iTunes DJ features shows it to be technique in which I can use the pull-down menu to draw upon several of iTunes lists (i.e., its internal data bases) as the sources of a DJ playlist, with the Genius Mixes being only one of those sources.
My initial tests, however, indicated that the playlist generated by using a Genius Mix did not reveal a close enough correlation to the songs which the selected Genius Mix actually played. And, as Chris CA points out, neither was there much of a correlation, if any at all, in regards to the play order. So, as a method for pre-viewing, or monitoring, which songs any Genius Mix was playing, or was going to play, I did not find the iTunes DJ feature to be that reliable.
However, the very fact that the iTunes DJ feature is drawing upon a selected Genius Mix as the source for the playlist is quite valuable, for that playlist gives me all the information I need to be able to preview and monitor a selection of songs stylistically associated with each other, in accordance with whatever programming algorithms govern the selections made by the Genius feature.
Seeing a list of songs in the iTunes DJ window that was generated by drawing upon a Genius Mix gives me options I did not know that I had. I have learned that I can either switch over to the iTunes DJ feature and play the songs in the its viewable list, which gives me a measure of control over what I hear, or I can continue to be surprised by what the Genius Mix will play for me, without my knowing what's coming.
As to creating a playlist based on a Genius Mix itself, I also know now that I have at least two options: (1) I can create a playlist in real time based on the songs which appear in the iTunes DJ window; or (2) I can go to the Music window of all songs, sort it by songs Last Played, and create a playlist of songs that any given Genius Mix has previously played.
Both of those options give me lot more power and flexibility in getting the most out of this really neat digital jukebox that Apple designed. Thanks for the enlightening tips.
I'll leave this thread open for additional contributions on this topic by others.

  • I like sharing my photos as a screen saver, but I do NOT want album cover artwork.

I like sharing my photos as a screen saver on Apple TV Generation 2. but I do NOT want album cover artwork.
to be mixed in with photos.
    Is this possible?

I understand, under Advanced, I can choose Albums to share. Then I check Share Photos From: iPhoto.
    Then Select Blbums and Events.
I only have one album selected with 127 photos that I took that I would like to use as a screen saver.
However, it uses these 127 photos PLUS all the album artwork as well. This is what I do NOT want. Where do I tell it NOT to share Album artwork as in iTune album cover artwork.

  • Genius mix artwork

    Hey,
Anyone know how to change or remove album artwork that is showing up in the genius mixes?  After failing to figure out how to remove it I actually deleted the album that had the "undesirable/unflattering" artwork  itselft, yet the album cover is still showing up on the genius mix.
    Any help would be great!!
    Thanks!

Have you found a solution? Same problem here.
I've selected songs and albums and clicked info and deleted album covers and also clicked the checkmark with nothing in there.
So now album artwork is not seen on my mac. But on my ipad and iphone anytime I pull up the music app and click albums, artists etc. I still see all the stupid album artwork.
How in the world can I get riid of ALL album artwork viewable anywhere whatsoever?
When playing a song and turning the phone sideways it seems to want to do a colleague of album pics also.
I don't want any of that. Any suggestions? No idea why it;'s so hard to lose the album artowrk. I see many posts throughout the internet trying to do the same and no scueess.

  • How can I make a new genius mix? Apple has made two automatically, but I would like one based on other genres within my iTunes library. I have tried updating my genius mixes to no avail.

How can I make a new genius mix? I do not want to make a genius playlist. Genius has already created two mixes but I would like another based on other genres within my extensive music library. I have tried updating Genius from Store>Update Genius but to no avail. Thank you!

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

  • Genius Mix show Album Cover art but cannot get to play....

    Hello Everyone,
I've turned on Genius and now have 12 Genius Mixes showing on the page. If I mouse over the image the play arrow shows and when I double click to play, iTunes shows are favourite little wheel for a minute or so and then the wheel disappears without any music playing. I must be doing something wrong but cannot see my error.
How do I get these new mixes to play? Many thanks, in advance.
    Warren

    Hey Warren,
I had this problem too. Just go to your library, make sure you check all the songs that you have (or at least those that you want genius to use). It has that problem you described when you don't check (or tick) all the songs.
Just select all the songs and check all of them. Should be up and working right away.
    Hope it works!

  • Can't get album view in genius mixes to work right

Hi - I'm not sure what is going on but I can't see the list or cover view while in Genius mixes. Also, some of the album covers are showing up and some not. But - I can't see what the mix is as the list won't show up and that makes the Genius mix not worth using if I can't even see what Itunes is selecting for me.
I tried looking in the view menu but no help.

I can't see the list or cover view while in Genius mixes.
You don't get list view or cover view with the mixes. You can always submit this as a request to Apple at:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
Also, some of the album covers are showing up and some not.
Are you talking about in iTunes? When you select that individual song in the main "music" section and pull up "Get info", do you see the artwork in the artwork tab?
Or is it ok in iTunes and is the problem just on your mobile device? If so, which one.
I can't see what the mix is as the list won't show up and that makes the Genius mix not worth using if I can't even see what Itunes is selecting for me.
You can pull it up in DJ if you want, and that gives you a glimpse of what's in there, but only a max of a 100 songs. But, frankly, it sounds like the lack of visibility into genius mixes are sufficiently annoying for you that you might want to consider not using it. Use plain old genius playlists (select song, hit , save it as a playlist): That behaves more like it sounds like you want.

  • Duplicate Album Covers in Genius Mixes

So I've noticed that in my Genius Mixes on my iPod, some of the album covers show up twice for the same Mix. They show up correctly in iTunes, but for whatever reason, they don't on my iPod.

I can't see the list or cover view while in Genius mixes.

  • How do you get an Ipod Classic to make Genius mixes using the songs you want?

My Ipod Classic is now about four years old. it's the grey, 160gb model. the hard drive doesn't click, so it's in stable, working condition, as far as I can tell, but lately, I've been having a few problems with it. first and foremost, it's stubbornly refusing to make Genius Playlists for me, using the songs I want. Secondly, it's not playing some songs. now, the second issue isn't new, and I've fixed it before, but that brings me to my third issue.
when opening Klondikes (because that's the only game I play on my ipod out of the three that come with it) the other day, it gave me an error message stating "game cannot be opened because ipod is full" or something like that. I have 160 gigabytes of storage, and all I have on there is music.
anyway, back to the Genius problem.
So I'll tell the Ipod to make a new Genius Mix from a selected song. in this case, I'll use Alestorm's "Keelhauled" for example. I made an edit of the song, decreasing the tempo, and drawing out the length of the song to 4:20. every single time, the ipod will use that instead of the original.
Say I use "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran (from The Hobbit, of course). the ipod uses the Kygo Remix I have.
Say I use "One Eight Zero" by Grendel. it uses the remix.
Say I use "The Sunk'n Norwegian", by Alestorm. the Ipod uses the Acoustic version.
Say I use "7 Days to the wolves", by Nightwish. it actually uses that song, and not the Instrumental version.
for "Whispers In The Dark", by Skillet, it doesn't use it, or the Instrumental version cause it can't find a match. (not a problem, just extraneous information.)
Say I use "We Can Make The World Stop" by The Glitch Mob. it uses a piano cover.
the trend I'm noticing here is that it only applies to songs with remixes. but as I have 1408 songs on my ipod, and need to be at work in an hour, I'm not going to look through everything to find every single instance of this.
the ID3 tags for these songs are correct.
Now, this is likely just a tagging issue, but the software should treat them as different songs. after all, most of them are stored in completely different blocks of memory. most of these are even different genres than the originals. and in the case of Keelhauled, because I exported the remix from Garageband, I'm listed as the Artist.
can someone please explain to me what's going on with my ipod, or give me some insight into what's going on under the hood?

A "classic" iPod is really a hard drive with a media player tacked on.  Like any hard drive (including your computer's), it can develop data corruption.  For example, maybe you mistakenly or accidentally disconnected it from the computer while it was syncing.  Or you dropped it, while the iPod was trying to access its drive for song data.  Or the hard drive can be getting worn out and unreliable.
The Restore will not fix the problem if the hard drive is becoming faulty.  But if the data corruption was caused by something else, the Restore should fix it by erasing the hard drive to give it a "fresh start," like reformatting your computer's drive and reinstalling the OS.

  • ITunes 9 Genius Mixes (having issues)

I turned off Genius, turned it back on to get Genius Mixes and have not been able to actually play a Genius Mix yet! When I go to the Genius Mix icon and then try and select a Mix, I hit the Play button that appears in the middle of the 4 random cd cover artworks and nothing happens. Well, sometimes, the beach ball shows up and iTunes just stalls! What is going on here? Why doesn't music start playing? Has anyone else had this issue?

"All I needed to do was check all files, update genius results and Mixes worked properly. Short end of it...Genius only had a few songs, so while the mixes saw my collection, the only relevant tracks to pull from was 14, so the genre wouldn't play if no tracks were in my genius profile....arrrg "
Same problem since update! Maddening. So where did you "check all files" ?
I can see the 12 mixes, some play right away and others do nothing or get the BBOD/force quit. I've got 2700+ items in my Music list so ought to be enough for some of these. How do you see what is in the mix, or can you?

  • How Can I Control (or Understand) Genius Mix Lists?

I am running iTunes 11. I decided to turn on Genius Mix (Menu--> Store--> Turn On Genius). This was fine. There was some information exchanged, some calculations done, etc. and an hour or so later I had a category under "Genius" of "Genius Mixes". There were twelves such mixes: Folk Rock Mix, Vocal Mix, Jaxx Mix, Classical Mix, Contemporary Folk Mix, Clssic Rock Mix, Electric Blues Mix, East Coast Rap Mix, Classic R&B Mix, Country Mix, Sountracks Mix and another Classic Rock Mix.
I did absolutely nothing to specify these categories and I have no idea how many songs are in each mix.I don't know if these are "canned" categories or if they are generated based on my content. I assume there are categories others have that i don't have.
Only by attempting to add one or more of these Genius Mixes to my iPhone have I been able to learn how big they are: Most are Gigabytes in size. Perhaps my entire music library has been tranched into these categories. I don't know. I have been unable to find any tools to show me a listing of the songs in the Genius Mixes other than using the "Next Up" drop down menu that is shown when I am playing a song from one of the mixes. Trying to employ that tool to learn anything about the lists would be just short of stupid.
I can make my own Genius lists by selecting a song and then limiting the size to 25, 50...etc. songs. I like these. But these huge "Genius Mixes" just seem silly. If anyone knows how to get them to display as lists so that we can see what's in them rather than "album cover quilts" that show four clustered album covers I would be most grateful (and embarrassed, as this would seem to be an obvious viewing option for me to maybe have overlooked). Either way, any bits o' wisdom or information most welcome.

The dll must use the same memory location for my aim.

    Umit
As you have already seen, LabVIEW and VC++ running in their own process.   The memory space is not shared between process.
What you need is Inter-Process Communication.  Call Dll.vi alone is not going to slove your problem.
If you are a good C/C++ programmer, search MSDN site for Inter-Process Communication.  There are a few choices.
You have to impliment one of those method in a dll, so you can call the dll in LabVIEW.

Hi there im using itunes 9.1.0.79 and i have an ipod touch 2g running version 3.1.3
Now the problem is the genius mixes on itunes is showing correct album art i.e. each of the four mixes are composed of four album art
ON ITUNES DANCE POP MIX CONSISTS OF SPICE GIRLS,LADY GAGA, KC AND SUNSHINE BAND AND AQUA.
THE SAME DANCE POP MIX DISPLAYS MICHAEL JACKSON, BRITNEY SPEARS, TATU AND SPICE GIRLS ON MY IPOD WHERE AS THE SONGS UNDER THE LIST ARE SAME ON THE COMPUTER AND MY IPOD
THERE IS A SAME PROBLEM WITH THE REST OF THE MIXES
EVERYTHING ELSE IS WORKING FINE ON THE IPOD EXCEPT THIS
can someone please help me find a solution and is anyone else also facing this problem......

You don't have a problem, and there is not solution. The album art you see for a genius mix is a representative sample of the albums contained in that mix. It is not all inclusive, there are other albums in that mix. When you mouse over a genius mix in iTunes, you'll see below the mix title that that mix is based on Artist A, Artist B, Artist C and others. When you play a mix, you'll see the album art changes from 4 covers to the album cover for the song now playing.
If you sync a mix to your iPhone/iPod Touch, the four covers will not be the same as those in iTunes, they will be 4 covers representing the albums included in that mix; however the description of the mix under the 4 covers will be the same as it is in iTunes. When you play a mix on your device, the art displayed is the art from the now playing song.
Mixes are not playlists, they are mixes of songs that sound good together. If you play a dance pop mix, it should be like tuning a radio to a dance pop station.
Bottom line, it is what it is. Listen and enjoy. Don't obsess about the minor details.
