Genius Mix on iPod

ok, you can sync your iTunes Genius Mixes onto your iPod.
but is there a way to have Genius Mix built on the song that are actually on the iPod?
I have way too much songs in my iTunes library to sync any of its iTunes Genius Mixes. but I will be pleased if this new feautre can built up its mixes from the songs currently synced on the iPod.

I understand that this isn't a feature. genius mixes are like playlist and can only be generated from iTunes library and then synced to the ipod.
This feature would have been great to allow genius mixes to be generated from the song that are on the ipod.

  • How do you get an Ipod Classic to make Genius mixes using the songs you want?

My Ipod Classic is now about four years old. it's the grey, 160gb model. the hard drive doesn't click, so it's in stable, working condition, as far as I can tell, but lately, I've been having a few problems with it. first and foremost, it's stubbornly refusing to make Genius Playlists for me, using the songs I want. Secondly, it's not playing some songs. now, the second issue isn't new, and I've fixed it before, but that brings me to my third issue.
when opening Klondikes (because that's the only game I play on my ipod out of the three that come with it) the other day, it gave me an error message stating "game cannot be opened because ipod is full" or something like that. I have 160 gigabytes of storage, and all I have on there is music.
anyway, back to the Genius problem.
So I'll tell the Ipod to make a new Genius Mix from a selected song. in this case, I'll use Alestorm's "Keelhauled" for example. I made an edit of the song, decreasing the tempo, and drawing out the length of the song to 4:20. every single time, the ipod will use that instead of the original.
Say I use "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran (from The Hobbit, of course). the ipod uses the Kygo Remix I have.
Say I use "One Eight Zero" by Grendel. it uses the remix.
Say I use "The Sunk'n Norwegian", by Alestorm. the Ipod uses the Acoustic version.
Say I use "7 Days to the wolves", by Nightwish. it actually uses that song, and not the Instrumental version.
for "Whispers In The Dark", by Skillet, it doesn't use it, or the Instrumental version cause it can't find a match. (not a problem, just extraneous information.)
Say I use "We Can Make The World Stop" by The Glitch Mob. it uses a piano cover.
the trend I'm noticing here is that it only applies to songs with remixes. but as I have 1408 songs on my ipod, and need to be at work in an hour, I'm not going to look through everything to find every single instance of this.
the ID3 tags for these songs are correct.
Now, this is likely just a tagging issue, but the software should treat them as different songs. after all, most of them are stored in completely different blocks of memory. most of these are even different genres than the originals. and in the case of Keelhauled, because I exported the remix from Garageband, I'm listed as the Artist.
can someone please explain to me what's going on with my ipod, or give me some insight into what's going on under the hood?

A "classic" iPod is really a hard drive with a media player tacked on.  Like any hard drive (including your computer's), it can develop data corruption.  For example, maybe you mistakenly or accidentally disconnected it from the computer while it was syncing.  Or you dropped it, while the iPod was trying to access its drive for song data.  Or the hard drive can be getting worn out and unreliable.
The Restore will not fix the problem if the hard drive is becoming faulty.  But if the data corruption was caused by something else, the Restore should fix it by erasing the hard drive to give it a "fresh start," like reformatting your computer's drive and reinstalling the OS.

  • No Genius mixes in itunes for ipod classic

I own an ipod classic and although Genius is ON in itunes, i cannot see any genius mixes in itunes and of course not on my ipod either. I used to see it but after one upgrade of itunes it just disappeard.
I keep updating Genius but still no genius mixes. Apple people please help

    Hello simoneta10,
iTunes 11 looks a little different than the previous versions of iTunes, and I'm wondering if you do not see the Genius Mixes because the Sidebar is hidden.  You can follow these steps to bring back the sidebar in iTunes:
Show Sidebar - Choose View > Show Sidebar (this feature will display iTunes features on the left side of the application including Library, Store, Shared, Genius, and Playlists).
You can find the full article here:
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features

Additionally, I recommend reviewing the following resource to sync the Genuis Mixes to your iPod:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Since I love the Genius-Mixes I'd really like to convert them into a playlist that I can also play on my iPod-Nano.

Have you tried resetting your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    That should work.
You'd just have to forward the messages manually, one by one, as far as I know (there may be a way to script it but I'm not too keen on AppleScript).

  • How you can load the Genius mix list in a Ipod Classic 80 GB

    Hi, G´day!
Somebody can help me about how you can load the Genius Mix List in a 80 GB Ipod Classic?
I have totally updated my Ipod Software and the Itunes but the Genius Mix List didn´t appear on my device, can you help me if is possible to load this kind of list?
    Best regards!
    Pedro López

Hmmm, I bought a 60-GB Ipod Classic at first then it was stolen. The thing is my 2 year warranty didn't kick-in, nether did my car insurance which doesn't cover theft.
So I had to take the loss and come up with cash for another Ipod but this time it was the 80-GB Classic. Now this one has crashed. So I may try ZUNE this time, are you listening @ APPLE ? I've only had this new one since July 7th- 07.
So far I've shelled out roughly $930.00 for two APPLE Ipods with the 2 year warranty in approve. 18 months.
Another thing is that I didn't transfer the warranty to the new Ipod. They don't tell you themselves about the transfer but you have to take the initiative yourself. They never offered to give me the paperwork. There you have it the pitfall of not transferring your warranty. Without that warranty you are left holding the bag. So get that warranty puuuleeeezze.

  • IPod Album Art replaced by Genius Mix Art

    Picture of the glitch:
    http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7195/ipoderror.jpg
This happens to albums which fit within the given Genius Mix, albums which do not fit within the given Genius Mix, and oddly enough, to TV shows. It is quite annoying, as I go to great lengths to make sure my album art is all good quality and well cropped. It's all fine on iTunes, but on my iPod it just randomly chooses albums not to work for.

    Hi,
It's the same with me. It appears that only manually added artwork displays. Songs with downloaded artwork show a blank in iTunes when I play them from the iPod, although on the iPod itself the artwork shows.
This has to do with the fact that downloaded artwork is not embedded in the mp3-files, in contrary to manually added artwork.
What you could try is to embed downloaded artwork yourself (wait for a rainy sunday afternoon though). Use this program to extract downloaded artwork from your iTunes libray: http://sourceforge.net/projects/iaae/

  • Genius Mixes Not Working- On iTunes on Windows 7- 64 bit

I built my iTunes library from my entire collection- of over 10,000 songs (more than 64 gigabytes)- and all songs are organized through iTunes Media folder- all have the proper information required for identification, match etc. These include 90s songs, 60s songs- and the latest. All sorts of music is in there. But when I turn on Genius I get NOTHING- Nada- no genius mixes, and although genius is on, I get no Genius playlists when select any track and ask for a play list. I have gone through all the forums I could lay my hands on, and tried all the tricks there. Now, I am at a loss. I filled more than half of my iPod Classic (160G), and would love to see what the genius mixes and genius playlists look like for my collections- but I see none. Any ideas? thanks.

    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • How can I make a new genius mix? Apple has made two automatically, but I would like one based on other genres within my iTunes library. I have tried updating my genius mixes to no avail.

How can I make a new genius mix? I do not want to make a genius playlist. Genius has already created two mixes but I would like another based on other genres within my extensive music library. I have tried updating Genius from Store>Update Genius but to no avail. Thank you!

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

  • How can I remove Genius from my ipod playlists menu?

After my 120GB Classic iPod died, I purchased a new 160GB Classic last week. Now I can't seem to get rid of the Genius playlist which appears at the top of my normal playlists on my new iPod. I don't use Genius and have it disabled in iTunes (via iTunes > Prefs > General > uncheck Genius AND Store > Turn off Genius). I don't understand why it appears in my new iPod. It never did on my old one. It is a bit of an annoyance because I used to click right through to my first playlist to play the music I like, and now I have to scroll 1 down, which is not always easy for me because I have a small handicap.
    old situation:
click music > click playlists > click play = first playlist starts playing
    new situation
click music > click playlists > Scroll 1 down (which is a hassle) > click play = first playlist starts playing
I hope there is a way to remove Genius from my playlists in my iPod but I can't see how. If it is not possible it seems to me that this is an issue that needs to be fixed. Maybe a software update can give a solution.
    Apple, please consider this.
    Thanks,
    Martin

Genius Mixes are generated from random selections of your library.
The Genius Playlist lets you select a specific song to be used as the basis for selecting "similar" songs that are supposed to play well together.
If you don't want to use the feature, don't use it. Anything as complicated as an iPod is bound to have at least one feature you don't need or doesn't work the way you would want it to. Personally I'd fix grouping on Album Artist or the behavior of iTunes U before worrying about an item I don't need in the menus.

I know darn well what Genius Mixes are, and I've chosen to turn them off because I don't like the concept or in this specific case the execution.  There are plenty of other features in the iPod I don't use, but none of them get in the way.
Personally, this is my 9th or 10th iPod purchase, going all the way back to a gen2 (before the iTunes store when I had to rip my 1,000 CDs to have any music in iTunes) that saw three battery replacements (yes, I've been inside the case).  Five of the iPods before this one are still working.   I know how to use iTunes and the iPods.
The issue here is simply that the setting to turn off Genius Mixes does not turn off Genius.   It still appears in the Playlist queue -- and most annoyingly in the first Playlist slot.  Genius is turned off on all my iTunes instances, and all my iPods.
When you turn off a feature, the feature should be turned off.   If that isn't the result, that is a bug.  Quite simple.

  • ITunes 9 - Genius shows but no Genius Mixes option...

I am a big fan of my genius play lists and I was really excited for the new genius mixes feature in iTunes 9 but there is nothing showing where the tutorial video shows they should be visible.
In my left menu bar, I have a full listing for Library, Store and a new section for Genius that wasn't there before but instead of having two items in the Genius section, I only have one - the Genius atom icon and the last genius playlist that I created. The second item that is shown on the video tutorial in that section is the boxy looking icon next to Genius mixes but is not visible.
I have shut down the app, restarted my computer. It isn't preventing me from using my iPod or iTunes but is a feature that I want to use!

Click on Store -> Update Genius, the Genius Mixes should pop up after a few moments under Genius on the left. Mine was the same way.

  • Can I limit the number of songs in a genius mix (not a playlist)?

I would like to limit the number of songs in a Genius Mix (not a Genius playlist). Is this possible in any way, including on iPhone or iPad? If so, how?
I've seen some earlier answers, but they apply to earlier versions of iTunes. I'm using 10.2.2.

Some of us don't have a boatload of free space on our iPods, and limiting the number of songs in the Genius Mix would allow us to synch the lists to the iPod and carry them around.
    You can already do this...
A Genius mix is limited to how many songs in the selected playlist fit the Genius mix profile.
    A Genius playlist is limited to 25, 50, 75 or 100 songs.
A Genius playlist is a limited Genius mix.
