Genius mixes missing on apple tv

genius mixes missing on apple tv; used to work just fine; i have 12 genius mixes that appear in iTunes; ATV now says i need itunes 9.0.2 or later for genius mixes to work but i use iTunes 11.0.1
os x 10.6.8 (snow leopard)

Good point. I had a shared library connection set up. I wasn't aware that a primary connection offered streaming capabilities. There's nothing I hate more than apples pompous attitude and obsession with syncing everything and not giving you the option to turn it off and still have it be useful. not to mention the limited space on an apple tv HD doesn't cut it for my 500G library. And what is the point in having a HD on the Apple TV if it has to mirror your library on your computer HD? Therefore I set it up to stream. Anyway, is there a way to set it up so it doesn't sync anything, yet I can still use genius? Thanks for the help and sorry for the rant

  • Genius Mixes Missing

I recently noticed that Genius Mixes were no longer available in my iTunes. The option was still available in the sidebar, but clicking it only revealed a blank white screen. I tried turning Genius off and on but then the Genius Mixes option disappeared completely from the sidebar. I also cannot access Genius Mixes on my iPod Touch which previously listed it as an option in the Music app but no longer appears since syncing with iTunes.
I have found some discussions of this problem on the Internet, but no solutions. Some people suggest that the problem could be due to an insufficient number of songs in the iTunes Library, but right now I have 3420 songs in my library, most by mainstream artists, so I don't think that's the problem.
Any help in getting Genius Mixes back is greatly appreciated. I really want to use this feature!

  • ITunes 9 genius mix missing?

I installed iTunes 9, and everything is fine; my playlists, music, etc, is all there. However, the genius mix app thing is not showing up. Everything has been upgraded, even the format of iTunes, but the genius mix isn't coming up. How do I get it?

    Hey Jersey
After you finished the iTunes 9 update did you update your Genius account (Store - Update Genius). Until you do this Genius Mixes won't display.
    Hope this helps.

  • How does 3.1's new "Genius Mix" differ from a Genius Playlist?

Hey guys I still haven't updated to 3.1 because of all the complaints and issues associated with it, but I was curious about one feature I'm missing out on... How does the new Genius Mix any different than an automated Genius Playlist that is made when you turn on Genius on your iPhone???
Genius just collects up to 25 songs by different artists in the same genre... What does Genius Mix do differently?
Thanks to anybody who answers me... I'm just curious, that's all.

Genius mixes are created in iTunes 9. It's like Genius, but different. Genius mixes come automatically.
"This new feature searches your iTunes library, finds songs that go great together, and creates multiple mixes you’ll love. All automatically. These mixes are like channels programmed entirely with your music. You may discover songs you never knew you had — and rediscover forgotten favorites."
iTunes will create up to 12 Genius mixes, like Rock Mix 1, Rock Mix 2, Oldies Mix, Alternative
Mix, etc. These are like radio stations created from your own music. The songs in the mix can't can't be listed.
Go here and scroll down to Genius Mix. http://www.apple.com/itunes/whats-new/

  • How can I see a list of the songs in a genius mix?

I would like to see the lists of the songs that are in  the Genius Mixes created by Apple. I do not know if there is any way to do this. I've tried to use the "Up Next" function, but but it only provides a partial list of the songs, and does not allow you to copy them.
    Thanks for any help.

If I understand what you are saying, you might see if you can drag a divider from the bottom of the bookmarks window, underneath the picture-previews, up higher to reveal the list of bookmarks.  Three little lines at the bottom of the window should indicate where to drag the divider.  I am running Safari 5.1.3 in Lion 10.7.3, so I am really only guessing here.

  • No Genius mixes in itunes for ipod classic

I own an ipod classic and although Genius is ON in itunes, i cannot see any genius mixes in itunes and of course not on my ipod either. I used to see it but after one upgrade of itunes it just disappeard.
I keep updating Genius but still no genius mixes. Apple people please help

    Hello simoneta10,
iTunes 11 looks a little different than the previous versions of iTunes, and I'm wondering if you do not see the Genius Mixes because the Sidebar is hidden.  You can follow these steps to bring back the sidebar in iTunes:
Show Sidebar - Choose View > Show Sidebar (this feature will display iTunes features on the left side of the application including Library, Store, Shared, Genius, and Playlists).
You can find the full article here:
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features

Additionally, I recommend reviewing the following resource to sync the Genuis Mixes to your iPod:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How can I make a new genius mix? Apple has made two automatically, but I would like one based on other genres within my iTunes library. I have tried updating my genius mixes to no avail.

How can I make a new genius mix? I do not want to make a genius playlist. Genius has already created two mixes but I would like another based on other genres within my extensive music library. I have tried updating Genius from Store>Update Genius but to no avail. Thank you!

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

  • Missing one single Genius-Mix on iPhone

    Hi together,
I'm missing one single Genius-Mix on my iPhone 3GS (latest iOS-Version). In my iTunes (latest version) I've got 6 Genius-Mixes, on my iPhone there are only 5 ones; one is missing.
I have this problem for weeks. Automatic synchronization is turned on.
    That's what I tried:
    - synchronizing
    - actualizing Genius
    - deactivating Genius, sync, activating Genius, sync
    - manual synchronization, only missing Mix selected -> no mix on iPhone
Hope anyone can help. I found someone having the same problem in the web.
    Thanks in advance.

On your iPhone go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. This will erase all contacts from your iPhone.
Wait a minute or two followed by turning Contacts back on.

  • My Apple TV Won't Play Genius Mixes

When I pull up the Genius Mixes I see the nine squares of four album covers and the various "genres" of the mixes, but when I hit play the message "Apple TV Cannot Play The Current Song". This happens for all of the mixes. I have tried updating Genius and syncing the Apple TV again but that doesn't work. I have started and restarted iTunes and Apple TV to no avail. All of my music lives on my Apple TV. Can anyone help?
I am running the latest version of Apple TV (3.0.1) and iTunes (9.0.2 (25)).

Same issue here. I can see them, just can't play them. I JUST bought my AppleTV yesterday and much to my chagrin everything except the Genius mixes plays fine. I had a perfectly functioning WDTVLive with a 320GB usb drive sitting in the same spot only hours before setting up the AppleTV. All I really had to do with that one was take all the music and dump it into one folder to fix what I didn't like about it, but ever the stickler for organization of my media files... Makes me want to go change my mind about the AppleTV and go back to BB and get back the WDTVLive I returned.

  • I Want My Apple TV's Genius Mixes Everywhere Else!

My Apple TV does a nice job making mixes... how can I get these into iTunes and onto my laptop, iPhone, iPad, etc.?
Or how can I make iTunes make similar mixes? (the Genius playlist feature NEVER works for me)
    Thanks!

Your ATV does not, as far as I am aware, do anything regarding making genius mixes. It is iTunes which does that and the ATV merely displays them from the iTunes library.

  • Genius Mixes on Apple TV

Following the 3.0 update to AppleTV I note that when I click on genius mixes a message appears advising that I don't have enough content on AppleTV to use it.
Thing is, I do!!! I've got a good two or three thousand songs on there.
    Any advice?

Same issue here. *****. Someone fix please.

  • Basic Questions about Genius Mixes vs Genius Playlists

I'm new to the Genius feature of iTunes, and I would just like a clarification. Please confirm and deny this basic understanding of what I think I've learned about how Genius works.
In another thread that I read, I think that it was mentioned that there is a difference between what Apple calls a "Genius Mix" and a "Genius Playlist." That distinction was lost on me in Apple's documentation, but someone here mentioned that they are not the same thing, which explained why, during iTunes' initial creation of Genius Mixes I could discover no corresponding Genius Playlist(s).
From what I can gather, Genius Playlists are the song lists which I, a user, can create in iTunes by selecting any song in my library as the seed and clicking on the Genius button. Those song lists can then be used as the basis for playlists which I can create and add to other playlists that I can create without using the Genius feature. Right?
In contrast, Genius Mixes are song lists that Apple generates over which I have no control and apparently cannot generate a playlist that I can save, for I cannot see which songs are included in any of the twelve various mixes (based on genres in my library) that Apple creates. Is that correct, or am I missing something here?
Ideally, I guess that I'd like to be able to see what songs are coming up in the Genius Mixes. I'd like to know if there are some hidden commands to allow me to generate such a list, which must be in a database somewhere in iTunes, that I can easily access, or not. But, if that is not possible, let me know, then I'll just relax and take what comes randomly as a surprise.
I guess that a question related to this might be: Are the Genius Mixes which iTunes generates fixed, in the sense that everytime I open iTunes, any given mix will start over at the first song its presumably invisible, inaccessible list? Or, does iTunes shuffle the deck of my Genius Mixes each time it loads? Since I apparently have no way to see the items in any Genius Mix, how can I ever know how many items in any given genre's mix? How will I ever get to the end of that mix?

Thanks for the dialogue, guys. You've both filled in some key pieces that were missing from my previously unsophisticated use of iTunes.
Until dknightd mentioned the iTunes DJ technique, I had not tried that feature out. What a great feature to use all by itself, as well as a complement to the Genius function!
My initial exploration of the iTunes DJ features shows it to be technique in which I can use the pull-down menu to draw upon several of iTunes lists (i.e., its internal data bases) as the sources of a DJ playlist, with the Genius Mixes being only one of those sources.
My initial tests, however, indicated that the playlist generated by using a Genius Mix did not reveal a close enough correlation to the songs which the selected Genius Mix actually played. And, as Chris CA points out, neither was there much of a correlation, if any at all, in regards to the play order. So, as a method for pre-viewing, or monitoring, which songs any Genius Mix was playing, or was going to play, I did not find the iTunes DJ feature to be that reliable.
However, the very fact that the iTunes DJ feature is drawing upon a selected Genius Mix as the source for the playlist is quite valuable, for that playlist gives me all the information I need to be able to preview and monitor a selection of songs stylistically associated with each other, in accordance with whatever programming algorithms govern the selections made by the Genius feature.
Seeing a list of songs in the iTunes DJ window that was generated by drawing upon a Genius Mix gives me options I did not know that I had. I have learned that I can either switch over to the iTunes DJ feature and play the songs in the its viewable list, which gives me a measure of control over what I hear, or I can continue to be surprised by what the Genius Mix will play for me, without my knowing what's coming.
As to creating a playlist based on a Genius Mix itself, I also know now that I have at least two options: (1) I can create a playlist in real time based on the songs which appear in the iTunes DJ window; or (2) I can go to the Music window of all songs, sort it by songs Last Played, and create a playlist of songs that any given Genius Mix has previously played.
Both of those options give me lot more power and flexibility in getting the most out of this really neat digital jukebox that Apple designed. Thanks for the enlightening tips.
I'll leave this thread open for additional contributions on this topic by others.

  • Ipad music app always starts with genius mixes

I am usind an iPad mini 16GB with iOS8 running the newest version. Every time I start the music app it fires up with the genius mix overview and not my last selection, e.g. artists listing. I subscribed to iTunes match with genius enabled.
I clearly recall iOS7 not acting like this. So my question is: Is this a bug or a feature or am I missing something.
    THanks in advance, Sascha

    Hi Caph1,
If you are having issues with your iPad's Music application always launching to the genius mix screen, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • No Genius Mix on Touch

Genius Mix works fine on iTunes9, but when I sync my 2G Touch, nothing shows up.
    Am I missing it somewhere?
(Sync is not automatic; I manually manage music/playlists)
    Thanks in advance

It is not clear mainly because Apple hasn't made it clear. Certain things do have to be in place. You do (seem to) have to disable and then enable Genius in Store menu on iTunes. It made me acknowledge the legal use stuff again (you know... the thing we don't read?). Then it built the Genius mixes.
They should show up in iTunes at this point. (Do they?)
Then--and I found this in http://macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/22371/ -- "Once the Genius Mixes are created in iTunes, click on your iPod in the source menu, then click the Music tab. Under Playlists, there is a heading for Genius playlists, and then it lists all 12 of them. You can select them all or pick and choose. Quite nice actually."

  • ITunes Match Genius Mixes won't work on iOS devices anymore

    Hi,
I had the iTunes Match Genius Mixes running on my Apple TV and iPhone without any problems until yesterday. Since then the iPhone still shows the list of mixes, but no cover art of the contained songs nor does anything happen when I press the play button. On the Apple TV it says that I should first enable Genius in my iTunes on my Mac, but that has already happened.
I tried signing out and in again from iTunes Match several times. The iTunes library load everywhere without problem and all songs are availble but no Genius or Genius Mixes. I also tried disabling iTunes Match on my Mac and turned it on again. Same result. All iOS device does not offer Genius or Genius Mixes anymore.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm having the same issue as well. Tried same process of turning off and on match on all my devices, nothing works.
I really miss my genius mixes, and considering I just purchased iTunes Match, this kind of stinks.
