Genius not working

i'm an avid user of genius on my itunes on my comp to listen music. have recently upgraded itunes 9.1.1.12. Have been trying to turn on genius. everytime i put my apple id and password it shows "THE APPLE ID YOU ENTERED COULDN'T BE FOUND OR YOUR PASSWORD WAS INCORRECT. PLEASE TRY AGAIN."
i've reset my password and i'm able to log in to write in this forum with same Apple ID and Password. it works here but for some reason it just doesn't work in Genius on itunes. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

I have the same problem... as you can see I can log in here but not for genius. I have also noticed that when I type the correct information in, the error message is slightly different than when I type in the incorrect information.
The error message with correct information:
"The Apple Id you entered couldn't be found or your password was incorrect. Please try again."
With the Wrong information:
"Your Apple ID or password was entered incorrectly."
Clearly something is wrong. If both were truly incorrect, the message would be the same as they would lead down the same path in the code.

    why does genius not work with some of my songs?

    For songs which the genius can't come up with a play list it seems the artist is either too small, too new, or the metadata doesn't match. For example, I had "Cardigans - Love fool" selected and I noticed iTunes had it in my "Songs your missing". I changed it to "The Cardigans - Lovefool", and then selected "Update Genius". After this iTunes removed it from the "Songs your missing", and was able to create a playlist.
    The problem is I don't know how many songs iTunes can't figure out. I wish I could create a smart playlist of all the songs which the genius couldn't figure out. The problem isn't so much that I can't get a playlist from a song I selected, but I know if the genius skips a song, then it won't include it with other recommendations. While the genius feature is great, I'd hate to find out in six months that it's been ignoring 75% of my library.
    In order to get some of my indy music to play with the genius playlist, I create a smart playlist which includes a genius playlist, and then a list of artists which it can also choose from.
    While it's great that the genius can figure out information from the cloud, it could spend more time looking at patterns within your own library. If I create a playlist of New Jersey rock bands, it should be able to figure out that my indy artists are related to the mainstream artists in the same playlist.
    The good thing about the Genius is it understands that people listen to multiple genres. I like to listen to classical when I'm studying, and folk music when I'm surfing the web. Last.fm will create a recommended playlist of half classical and half folk. The genius doesn't look at your whole library and come up with something that tries to match all your tastes. As a result of it using genres to cluster music, it doesn't mix holiday music in with your playlists like other recommendation services do.

  • Genius Not working on new Classic 120gb ?

    Is the Genius function working for anyone on the new 120GB classic. It is in my menu , but when I select a track it asks if I want to add it to an on the go playlist ? Is this how it works .

    I was having this same problem on my Classic. I got it to be fixed by doing the following, which you may want to try.
    FROM THE NAVIGATION MENU, not the now playing screen:
    -Highlight a song
    -Hold down the center button, and choose "Start Genius"
    -It will say connect to iTunes to activate Genius (1)
    (In my experience, after doing the previous I would still get this error, which I resolved by doing the following:)
    -Dock the iPod
    -Choose "Update Genius" from the Store menu
    -Sync the iPod
    However, since I had Genius turned on by default, I don't see how any of these steps were necessary. Especially when this is a feature that most people probably aren't aware of. Seems very "un-Apple" to me.
    It's either buggy code in iTunes or buggy code on the iPod, but it is definitely buggy code.
    Please post back here and let me (and us) know if this solved your problem.

  • ITunes 9 and Genius (not working)

    I have tried all of the suggestions (remove apple.com cookies from Safari; delete user>library>cookies; delete iTunes prefs; turn off and on Genius) and genius does still not work. I click on a song and then the genius button, after what appears to be a successful connection and response from apple, I get a dialog box that states:
    Genius is not unavailable for the song "Ebony Eyes". Choosing Update Genius from the Store menu will update your Genius results. If, after updating, kTunes is still unable to identify this track, please choose another song or artist>
    Numerous attempts to update Genius only results in the return of the same dialog box. I have tried many songs, including ones purchased from iTunes and well as ones I imported from purchased CDs.
    Genius mixes shows mixes, but when I try to click on the play button, nothing happens.
    Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

  • ITunes 9 : Genius not working/updating

    Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 9, I am unable to update Genius nor Am I able to use the Genius Feature.
    I am getting this error "We could not complete iTunes Store request ...."

    Well got it working -- turned off genius first then did all the above except deleted the whole cookies folder then turned off home sharing (not sure if it had anything to do with it) then restarted my iMac

  • HT204406 genius not working in itunes match

    I am finding 3 problems when using Itunes Match through my apple tv - some of the artwork doesnt appear even though it is in my Itunes library; some songs occassionally stop playing prematurely; but most annoying is that genius doesnt seem to work...anyone find an answer?

    I had the sem thing happen with afew songs that used to give genius results, but now say "canot" and asks me to update Genius... even though I just did (twice to make sure).
    My Genius results used to be great, with Genius Playlists set to 50 songs it used to have a variety of artists and the songs would fit pretty well with the seed song.
    But since I update my Genius after upgrading to iTunes 9 (to get the Genius Mixes), when selecting a seed song , the 50-song Genius Playlist created seems to just select 5 or 6 artists and repeat songs from those same 5 or 6 artists to fill the playlist with. And the 5 or 6 artists it selects are definitely not as good a match to the seed song as they used to be... I have over 27k songs with over 6200 artists, it's not like Genius doesn't have enough to chose from.

    Yesterday I installed the newest iTunes for 64-bit..
    But when I tried GENIUS< it didn't work.
    I turned it off and on, updated it, everything.. But it didn't work.
    I don't ahve a genius playlist or genius mixes in my menu and for evey song it says It's not available for this song blabla..
    PLEASE HELP ME.

    Genius used to work perfectly on my iPad and I'm pretty sure it was after I updated to OS5 that I started having problems. The same music, if not more, is on my iPad but now on songs I used to get great Genius playlists from I get "This song does not have enough related songs to create a genius playlist." This is so frustrating as I use Genius all the time. I've resynced my music with my Mac and still nothing.

    Have you tried the 3 basic troubleshooting steps? Restart, reset or quit the app and restart the iPad?
    Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    To quit the Music app - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Itunes II - Genius not working; icon gone

    Help!  Genius has disappeared from Itunes11 on my macbook pro.  I used to use the feature a lot, but now I can't figure out why it doesn't work at all.  The icon is gone from the bottom of the page, and when I right click on a song to create a genius playlist, it just plays the song and that's it.  I have read quite a few posts regarding this problem and imatch, but I do not have imatch turned on in my phone - which is an iphone4s.  Not sure how to solve this.

  • Since I upgraded to Itunes 9 Genius not working for Nirvana

    Ever since I upgraded to itunes 9 I haven't been able to use genius for any nirvana music and no nirvana music is being integrated into genius playlists/mixes. Before I upgraded all of my nirvana albums worked fine anyone know what could be causing this? I don't think it would be my song info but I double checked them all and that was fine. I also tried removing and readding them to my library which didn't help. I also tried turning off genius and deleting the itunes library genius.itdb in my itunes folder which didn't help either.
    If anyone knows what could be causing this let me know thanks.

    Anyone else have problems with the app store crashing after clicking on genius? Is Apple sending a out a bug fix for all the problems with ios 6?

    Try doing a hard reboot of your iPod by holding down the home and power buttons at the same time until the device reboots. If that doesn't work, try doing a restore and set up your iPod as new instead of restoring from a backup.

  • Genius not working with iCloud

    Has anyone notice the genius icon missing in the music app on their iPhone/iPad?  I noticed after I moved all my music to iCloud, I can no longer do genius playlists on these devices.  I have it turned on in iTunes, and it works just fine on my mac.  Am I missing something here?

    I was wondering the same thing. I use the Genius feature on the phone quite a bit. But since subscribing to itunes match the genius button isn't there. If someone knows how to get it back it'd be nice. Otherwise I hope Apple puts it back in the next update.

    After finally determining how to turn on the Genius feature again on my home iMac I am now trying to figure out how to turn it on on my iPad3.  I have Genius for Apps turned on.  However when I use iTunes on the iPAD I can not create genius play list on the fly.  The Genius playlists from iTunes sync without any problme.  I have turned theipad of and on again.  Sync'd it 3 times and still no luck.  Is there some setting buried on this thing that will turn it on?

    I have downloaded the icloud software again.  Made sure all my settings are fine on my iphone and ipad.  Made sure "read only" was not checked on the PhotoSteam properties.  WiFi is connected.
    I have tried all fixes from applesupport that i could find.
